Where to load photo paper on my new Officejet Pro 8600

I just set up a new Officejet Pro 8600 e-Print All-in-One Printer. The salesman told me that photo paper is loaded in the tray on the top of the printer. I tried that and have been unable to get the printer to use that paper, it goes to the paper tray on the bottom of the machine. When I placed the photo paper there, the printer would not load the photo paper and displayed an "out of paper" message. I would like to print an 8x10 photo. I am using Windows 7 and have tried printing from both Windows Media and Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, both in 64-bit. Any help available will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to print from an emailed photo of my husband's mentor, who passed away last week. Please help me.

Hi,
My suggestion: Use HP Photo Creators, this software is tailored to use on HP printers. Here is how, from page #26 of its manual, one point to note: point #4.
Load cards and photo paper
To load cards and photo paper Use these instructions to load photo paper.
1. Pull out Tray 1.
2. Insert the media print-side down in the center of the tray. Make sure the stack of media aligns with the line on the width guide, and is not higher than the paper stack line on the guide.
3. Slide the media guides in the tray to adjust them for the media size that you have loaded, and then reinsert the tray.
4. Pull out the extension on the output tray.
Regards.

  • New OfficeJet Pro 8600 will not print

I just got a new OfficeJet Pro 8600 a little over a week ago and have it setup on my wireless network. The first few days it worked fine, but as of yesterday I haven't been able to print anything. The computer says it's printing, but the printer isn't doing anything. I've checked my wireless status and it says that it's connected. How do I fix this or what do I do? Thanks!

I'm trying to print name tags (Avery), but the printer keeps telling me I have the wrong size paper in the tray.  I'm working from Word in Windows 7, selected the appropriate template and even changed the page size to 4.5x11, but it will not print.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. No automatic scan menu when documents loaded into the auto feeder?

I have a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus to replace the L7780 which brought up the scan menu when a document was loaded into the autofeeder.  How do I get the ne 8600 to do the same thing.  I find that I liked the convenience of the auto menu but it does not come up when I load document(s) to be scanned into the auto feeder.  Was this feature left off?

    Hi afredb,
I understand you have a new Officejet 8600 Plus and have some questions about the scan feature in comparison to the Officejet L7780. I will certainly do my best to answer these questions for you.
In testing on our own Officejet 8600, I have found that you would be correct, this is a feature that wasn't transferred to the upgraded machines after they stopped making the L7780. There were a few printers in between the L7780 and the 8600, and they didn't have that feature either. I believe the reasoning behind it was that many people use these printers for copying and faxing as well so having the feeder automatically assume it's going to be scanning would have created extra steps for many others. Hopefully this is only a minor inconvenience and you can still enjoy the printer
Hope this helps, have a great day!

  • Where is the photos button in the new version of iTunes?  Need to sync photos from teh computer but photos buton doesn't exit or is hidden.

Where is the photo button in the new version of iTunes?  I need to sync photos from the computer?

On iTunes 11 you can re-enable the sidebar via View > Show Sidebar. To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you've enabled the sidebar), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you haven't enabled the sidebar, then from you library click 'iPad' at the top right of the screen and you should get a series of buttons along the top of the screen, including one for Photos

  • Scanning a 4 x 6 photo, new HP Officejet Pro 8600 automatically scans the entire glass area.

The 8600 forces me to crop the scanned photo.  My old 8500 automatically recognized only the photo (or multiple photos if more than one) and presented them as cropped final images.  How can I do the same with the 8600?  It is an Officet Pro 8600 Premium.  I have a lot of photos to scan and it will take a long time if I have to crop each one.  Why would HP go backwards in capability on a newer more expensive printer?

    Hi Mar_R,
I saw your post on another forum thread I worked on previously; Re: Multiple photo scan on Officejet Pro 8600. I would like to help answer your inquiry and adjust your settings to auto crop your 4x6 photos.
Mar_R wrote on the other thread:
I just posted a related problem elsewhere in the forums with my new 8600.  I have to wonder though, how can this be a Windows related problem, as only two days ago, when I had my 8500 running and connected, it could scan and recognize multiple photos and save them as separate files.  I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit by the way, on an HP all in one computer.  Yesterday, I uninstalled my 8500 driver and the 8500 HP Solution Center Software, and installed the new 8600 software and there is no function to recognize individual photo scans. In the hour or so between uninstalling the old HP printer software and installing the new, there were no updates to Windows.   I submit that this is an oversight or ommission by HP from the software included with the printer.  But I am puzzled as to how they can justify going backwards in capability from an older printer to a newer and more expensive one.
My response to the individual I was working with was "You can not set the scan option to detect separate items on the Windows operating system any more. This is clearly a feature that was removed from the software. I even tried checking 3rd party software programs with the hopes of bypassing the limitation the HP newer software has created.
The only glimmer of hope I could find is that  I believe the newer printer software, v33, has re-added the feature. I suspect the customers were heard. I mean I imagine you are not the only one that has come across this and expressed the desire to be able to detect separate items when scanning."
I made no reference to this being a Windows issue. This feature is available when scanning to a Mac, but the version of software is different. In fact, scanning to a Mac and scanning to a Windows operating system are entirely different and incomparable.
I hope this answers your inquiry. As for finding a solution to the issue you are experiencing, it sounds like the issue is not actually detecting separate items, rather you are trying to scan 4x6 and have it auto crop so you do not need to manually crop each scan.  If this is correct, please use the instructions below.
Open HP Scan, create a new shortcut, change the Scan Size to 4x6.
Now you will not have to crop the image each time you scan, all you have to do is choose the appropriate scan shortcut. I hope this helps.

  • Have officejet pro 8600 plus and it prints photos to dark on regular or advanced photo paper?

have a officejet pro 8600 plus printer and whenever i print a photo out , either on regular or advanced photo paper it always comes out darker then the actual photo.

Belive it or not this is acctually normal.  Most photos will print a little darker than they appear on screen.  This is due to the way the picture is coded and the brightness level on your monitor.  You could try following the steps in this document to imporve the quality, but I'm pretty everything is doing what it should.  If the colors are completely distorted, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

  • How do I print 4x6 photos on an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus via Windows Photo Viewer or Gallery

Dear Experts, I've got an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer with just one paper tray in which I loaded 4x6 photo paper.
The printer was purchased in January 2014, the latest drivers are installed. Now I would like to print a single 4x6 photo using Windows Photo Viewer or Gallery.I loaded the 4x6 photo paper  into the tray as indicated by the little icon labeled 4x6in, so I suppose I got the HW part right. It's just the SW part which gives me a hard time. The available paper size options in Windows Photo Viewer and Gallerydon't include photo paper sizes, just the standard paper and envelope sizes.Hence I checked in the HP Printer Assistant in "Set Preferences" what kind of paper sizes are available, and there is exactly the same list as proposed by Gallery, missing photo paper sizes. So I guess Gallery just picks the sizes from the driver and ther are no photo paper sizes. This is an issue because I prefer to print from my PC using Win 7 or Win 8 and not from a SD card or a USB stick. Any help is very welcome, thank you in advance!

Thank you for this link! Actually I installed a brand new Windows 8 system in January 2014 and then bought the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer a few days later. To install this printer I did not use the CD that came with it but already used this link. Just to be sure that I have the latest version I again reinstalled the driver. The result is definitive: You cannot print common photo paper sizes like 4x6,  5x7, 8x10, etc. via a PC using photo SW like HP Photo Creations, MS Gallery, Windows Photo Viewer or any other SW on a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. The reason is most likely that HP marketing decided that an Officejet should not be smart enough for photos, after all the company sells also Photosmarts. Because you cannot create your own formats  you are limited by the driver to what is typically available in an office, in this case:  A4, Letter, legal, Statement, Executive, A4, A5, A6, B54 (JIS), Envelopes #10-DL-C5-C6-A2-Monarch, Japanese Postcard, Japanese Envelope Chou #3-#4, L, 2L, O**bleep**u hagaki, Index Card Letter-A4, Edge-to-Edge Letter-A4, Env. Japanese No 3-No 4 and that's it, not more. Thank you anyway for trying to help me but in this case only the SW developers in HP can help.It would be great to be able to print from time to time a 4x6 photo on this printer like I would do.Copying photos on a USB stick or on a SD card first and then use this way to print on the printer is too cumbersome for me.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless - Where are the printing shortcuts?????

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless Printer
    Windows 7
    Where are the printing shortcuts?????
I just replaced a canon printer that died that had the concept of PROFILES, so that I could setup a PROFILE for each type of printing, i.e. 4X6 photos/documents/5X7 photos.  So it was easy for our family to print, they would pick each setting.
Now with latest driver for 8600 there are NO way to save a set of settings for a printer.   I have seen some old discussions on this but I just can't believe HP doesn't have this type of functionality in their drivers.  I don't need the ePrint and all the other bogus stuff installed with the 8600 driver, but I DO NEED the ability to save different sets of printing options so I don't have to remember, borderless or not, landscape or not, etc and keep wasting photo paper/ink/regular paper with incorrect options.
Here is another posting with similar points -> Customers are NOT getting full print functionality.  We don't care about the extra software, it is minimal.  Full functionality includes the ability to create profiles for different printing situations so that the user can easily choose that profile (and therefore all the myriad settings for that profile).  What HP has done is give us ONE profile, essentially, and every time you want to do something different, you have to change that ONE profile.  How is that helping?
As I said, if I want to switch from a normal printing job (e-mail, web page, etc.) which uses my ONE setting, and then want to print a 4x6 photo, I have to remember to change at least 6 different settings.  With the shortcut, I would select my "borderless photo" shortcut, and it would automatically switch paper trays, size, color, quality, you name it.  Now you force me to change that each and every time.
If someone can explain why this is considered full functionality I would be extremely grateful.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are having trouble with your print experience.
I am going to make some assumptions here, which could be wrong in your case, but might help others.  Since you mention printing from Windows7 and ePrint in the same thread, can I assume you are trying to print using the HP ePrint driver for windows (www.hp.com/go/eprintsoftware) ?  The ePrint driver also comes preinstalled on all HP laptops and pcs now, so maybe you made a recent pc purchase and therefore have the ePrint driver installed?
The goal of the ePrint windows driver currently has a lot less to do with providing the hundreds of print features and settings that the full featured, product specific print drivers provide.  The goal is to enable customers to be able to print to any recent or new HP printer through a number of different connection paths from a single installed print driver / print queue.  Once the ePrint driver is installed, printing with that driver will dynamically find direct network printers, cloud enabled printers, public print locations, direct wireless printers, etc., and create the correct print format depending on the print path taken.  If the printer is ePrint cloud enabled and has a good internet connection, the printer and the pc do not have to be in the same location.  For example, you can print from home to your printer at work.  You can send photos of the kids to your mom's printer in another state, etc.  The ePrint solution is also good for the traveling worker who just wants to send the occasional print job to the nearest network or wireless direct printer without having to find and install another print driver for each new printer.  One driver, one queue and you can print to any recent or new HP printer.
The ePrint driver has a few important print settings that customers may want to use (copies, duplex, grayscale, etc).  More may be added over time depending on demand.
BTW, because the ePrint driver does not have a ton of print settings to handle, the rendering of print jobs is as simple and efficient as possible and should not bog down your pc.
If you want all the bells and whistles in the print driver experience and just want to print to a single printer you can download and install the product specific print driver from hp.com
I hope that helps out a few people who may be wondering what the purpose of ePrint is!!
    Good luck.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus produces very poor quality photos

I have a new  HP Pro 8600 Plus that has disappointed me in the quality of photo prints.  I have always had very good results from my prior HP printers, the last one being the 6500 and was expecting similar quality with this one.  I am using HP Premium Plus paper (glossy) and the ink that came with my printer (which I purchased at Costco).  The photos are lacking in sharpness and look like very cheap copies.  Am I expecting too much from this model?

I've had the same experience, it doesn't print glossy. I'm using the same HP photo paper. I believe it's the type of ink they're using on the 8600. They say it doesn't dry up as easily, so maybe this is the down side. However, it would be nice if they wouldn't advertise, ".. prints impressive business photos." I bought this printer to replace an HP Photosmart c4180, that prints impressive photos, but the ink drys up because I use it so sporadically. I guess I'm going to have to replace the color cartridge (since it dried up again with plenty of ink in it) and remember to print color copies at least once a week. Otherwise, the 8600 seems awesome so far.

  • Mac OS X Won't Print Card Stock on Brand New OfficeJet Pro 8610 e AiO

Hi All - I print cardstock all the time and just purchased a new OfficeJet Pro 8610 eAiO from Best Buy 2 days ago.  The salesman told me it was the best option for cardstock printing and the specs say it can handle 110lbs cardstock.  It is hooked up and printed a couple standard paper pages nicely.  But when I put in the cardstock, it made all the noises like it was printing, but then "Load Paper" shows up on the LCD screen.  We have tried unplugging it, but that doesnt do anything.  After a little bit of fiddling with the tray (pushing and pulling on all tabs and springs we see), we put the tray back in and then it prints.  But we have to do this with every print request.  I have read to select "heavy paper or card stock" in the printer properties and to disable tray 2.  I dont have a tray 2 on my printer (that I am aware of at least).  And I dont see an option for printer properties for me to change anything.  Does anyone have directions for this process?  Also - I read that the printer may work if it is kept nearly full of paper?  Has anyone had success with this?  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi KRichBC,
Thank you again for answering my questions!
Checking over the printer's specifications, found at this website. HP Officejet Pro 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, and 8660 e-All-in-One Printer Series Printer Specifications. This is a supported paper size at 8.5 x 11, if the paper type is Index Card Letter.
I also would recommend trying the solutions within this guide. An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays on the Control Panel and the All-in-One Does Not Pick Up Paper. Again please, try a custom size print to see if that will work. Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911g new firmware will not install.

My printer: Officejet Pro 8600 N911g
    Current Firmware: CLP1CN1416AR
My problem: Downloaded the latest firmware update (Version CLP1CN1322CR). When I go to install it, my printer shows as listed, but in the STATUS cloumn, it is listed as "Not applicable".
    I turned my printer on/off.
I tried updating via network, and when it checks for an update, it states there are no updates avaiable.
    I tried updating via USB.
I tried updating via the LCD panel on the printer, and when it checks for an update, it states there are no updates avaiable.
Is there something wrong as to why this current firmware will not install?
    Thanks for any help.

New Firmware (CLP1CN1416R) was installed automatically (Printer was set for "Auto Update").  Prior to new firmware install,  printer has performed flawlessly...no problems.  Immediately after printer updated it's firmware automatically I began to have multiple problems.
First, it kept asking me to perform an "Alignment" which I dutifully performed only to have message come back that 'Alignment Failed".  Printed sheet looked fine, and printer printed fine but now before any page will print the "Alignment Recommended" message comes up which I have to then override (Click 'Do Not Align' button at bottome of 'Alignment Recommended' message box.  This is getting really OLD!!  Simply unacceptable for a business class printer!!
Also, the printer randomly has started giving other messages such as "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" AND "Cartridges are Missing" ("when I've just recently put in new catridges and levels are OK!!) AND "Paper Jam" (when there is no jam!!)
None of these problems have occurred prior to the automatic firmware update.  I believe the reason HP hasn't posted the new firmware update to their Customer Service website is that they know there are bugs in it and don't want to compound the problems the new version has already created.  I seriously question why an automatic updating of firmware was done with equipment set to "Auto Update" and yet that same new firmware is not available to those who might have had their printers set for "Manual Update".
HP Customer Service - You need to issue a statement from the company as to what has happened with this firmware update.  If there are problems, take responsibility for it and make it right.  HP knows who it sent out auto updates to.  These printer owners should be immediately notified and the situation made right.  It is not real assuring to have your front line staff not know why the new firmware is not on the website.  I do not like the idea of having to pay for a Support Call when the problems with my out of warranty printer are directly tied to the Auto Updating of said printer with apparently defective firmware.
I'd really appreciate a response back from someone in HP Customer Service.

  • Error message "paper too short to autoduplex" on Officejet Pro 8600

I have this problem with my new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  I have standard letter size paper in Tray 1, and have all the printer setup set for letter size paper.  No matter what program I print from, I recieve the error message "paper too short to auto-duplex". I click the close button, and the page prints.  It is aggravating to take the extra step to close this error message every time I print.  I shut the printer down for 30-60 seconds and this took the problem away. Is this normal?  Will I have to do this often?

The fix is available in printer firmware (Software within the Printer). You can download it from hp.com and install from you pc to printer.
