Why is BT incompetent and unable to resolve a simp...

This has been an on-going issue with BT for a number of months in which BT has made multiple failing and I am now beginning to lose patience.
The issue began when I moved house and took my BT services with me. During the house move I requested that they updated my direct debit details to my new bank account which they failed to do so correctly and the direct debits failed to come off leaving me with late payment charges. I have requested the direct debits set up multiple times now. I have given my account details to multiple incompetent agents who have still failed to set up the direct debit.
Last month I spent almost 20 hours on the phone and online speaking with different agents to have charges refunded and the direct debit setup correctly. Now I have begun to lost patience as yesterday I spoke to an agent as I had yet more charges appear on my latest bill. I requested that these be removed and I would pay the outstanding balance.
The agent again was very unhelpful and on multiple occasions failed to read the plain English used to communicate with him and eventually I had to request a manager from the UK call me. This was last night at around 4pm.
I wake up this morning to find that my services have been suspended.
Needless to say I got straight onto customer service once again another incompetent agent who cannot grasp a simple request. I wish to speak to a manager I do not want to try to handle my objection.
At the moment I am expecting both the issue to be resolved and compensation.
