Will Reader 11 auto update to Acrobat Reader DC?

Hi,
I would like to know if/when Adobe intends to push the new Acrobat Reader DC out as an automatic update to Adobe Reader 11 - the type that will be offered through the "Help -> Check for updates..." menu item in the app or would an organisation have to take action to roll the new version out?
Thanks

Hi sfhlsrhgtlrwhglorweh,
You need to manually download and install the Reader DC (Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions). It will automatically remove any previous versions of Adobe Reader from your machine.
Thanks.

This is not how a forum works; nobody will call you back.
Provide some details, and somebody will answer here.
What is your Windows version?  Reader version?  What exactly means "cannot"?

  • With new updates from Acrobat Read my computer freezes and I can not fill in forms anymore, how do I fix these problems?

After updating Acrobat Reader my computer now freezes when I try to fill in forms using Acrobat Reader, this never happen before! Now the only way to unfreeze my computer is to turn it off and restart it, which is not how a computer is suppose to be turned off as nothing responses to get it unfrozen(ESC., Contol-Alt-Delete)! The I shows up as if I am able to fill in forms, but after trying to fill in the form numerous times various ways, it always ends up freezing my computer up! I HATE THE NEW UPDATES! Why can't I speak with a live human, through Adobe? I would not want to buy anything from any company which would not allow me support by talking to a live human over the phone, as typing messages can be misunderstood! Their is no point to have Acrobat Reader any more if it does not allow me to fill in forms! I could use the reader that came with the computer! It is sad that for myself filling forms using Acrobat Reader was nice since there are times I am unable to write anything due to tremors, unfortunately I am not alone in this type of medical problem and we the disabled the majority of us are on Social Security! Everyone know that Social Security does not give their recipients enough money to live off of! It is sad when a person is ill they lose more than their livelihood, so called friends abandon you too! So how can I fix the freezing problems and is there any Adobe that I can fill in forms which will not cost me money and or another company that may offer this free of charge?

  • Is this latest notice from Adobe to update the Acrobat Reader legitimate? How can I tell?

How can I tell if today's software update from Adobe for Acrobat Reader is legitimate?

    Hi Darrell,
You can navigate directly to the Adobe site, adobe.com -- getting any downloads directly from Adobe will insure that you are getting the real deal.  I usually get most of my updates through "Apple software update," myself.
    Either way is A-OK.

  • Cannot open PDF file after update to Acrobat Reader 11.0.1 / 10.1.5

I receive faxes from a service in the form of PDF files.  Up until today, I have been able to open them with no problem using Acrobat Reader 10.1.4 and lower.
Today, I updated Acrobat Reader to 10.1.5, and it's suddenly unable to open any of those files.  I tried uninstalling 10.1.5 and installing 11.0.1, and the same problem exists.
I also tried a computer with 11.0.0 that had not yet updated, and it works fine.
Apparently, it's something about this latest update.
The PDF files open in other viewers like Foxit, Sumatra, and Chrome with no problem.
    Here is the error:
The offending file can be gotten from here:

Apparently I was incorrect on the Cisco box, we are using something different now. We use an Extended application server attached to a Meta Call feature server. This is a known issue for them.
"We have discovered an issue that means that the format of fax PDFs generated on most versions of Metaswitch EAS is incompatible with the latest Adobe Reader (11.0.01).  This means that when your end users upgrade their Adobe Reader to 11.0.01, they will no longer be able to view faxes received from EAS in PDF format."
The same is with version 10.1.5. I uninstalled 10.1.5 and reinstalled 10.1.4 and the problem went away. No updates for us for now

If you go to the thread list for Reader and choose "Search Forum" and use 1316 as your search parameter, you get tons of hits.

  • Adobe Updater overloads data line while updating from Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 to 8.1.3

    Hello
I'm from germany but I'm doing my best to get you understanding me.
I'm experiencing some problems updating Adobe Reader from version 8.1.2 to 8.1.3 in our company. Our users have no administrative rights on their PCs and therefore are not able to install any update manually. That's why I want to use the Adobe Updater.
We're also using a proxy which doesn't allow our users to download any *.exe files. I configured Adobe Updater to search for Adobe Reader updates once a month.
But then from time to time our data line was fully overloaded. When I checked the logfiles of our proxy I mentioned that Adobe Updater tried to reach ardownload.adobe.com for more than 1500 times in only 3 hours from only 1 PC. This means that nearly every 7 seconds ardownload.adobe.com has been contacted by one PC. When I deactivated Adobe Updater the problem was solved. So it seems to me, that Adobe Updater is the reason why our data line get's more and more loaded by this update function.
What is happing during the discovery of available updates and wherefore does Adobe Updater tries to download the same file for more than 1500 times? Does anyone have an answer to this? If you have any proposal to solve this problem I would be glad if you answer me. And let me add that I don't want to grant our users access for downloading .exe files :-)
    Thanks so much
    Macke

The latest release of the Adobe Updater has fixes for networking with proxy servers. If you aren't running the latest (because it can't connect), you can manually download and then install the Adobe Updater for Reader & Acrobat 8 from the URLs below.

  • Enable auto update while deploying Reader 11 via group policy

I would like to push the latest adobe reader 11 out via group policy. I have tried using the adobe customization wizard but I am unable to set the installs to auto update. They default to download the update and prompt the user. I do'nt want the user to be prompted at all. I just want it to automatically update. Is there an easy way to deploy this?
I would like it to be like flash. You can deploy the mms.cfg file and it configured flash to auto update.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to uninstall or to update Adobe Acrobat reader:

Use the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove corrupted registry entries.
To remove Adobe Acrobat reader, download Microsoft Clean Up Utility and install it:
    Here's the download link.
The Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility only removes registry entries created by the application installer. Files and other registry entries for the application are not removed by this utility and could cause inadvertent effects on the system if not removed.
    * When it is installed, pull down the menu Start and Programs , and click on Windows Install Clean Up to launch it.
    * In the list, select Adobe Reader (/!\ be careful : nothing else ), click on Remove then click on Exit and restart your computer.
You can follow the above steps for the Error "1635: This patch package could not be opened" -- Acrobat and Adobe Reader

I have downloaded and installed this utility.  It doesn't appear on the Start/Programs list although it is on the Add/Remove programs list and appears to uninstall normally.
I couldn't get it to work.  This download is from a non-Microsofy source, Seagull Scientific Inc who appear to be repuytable, but I would advise caution.
    Edit:
Ok, now I got it fixed.  I have dual screen setup and had the second screen switched off - the Start/Programs menu was overflowing to the second screen and the program was listed at the end.
I ran it and it solved my problem.  Thanks!

  • Disable Auto Update in Acrobat Professional 9 for OS X

We have a series of installations in a lab/classroom environment where we would like to disable the autoupdate feature of Acrobat Professional 9. Currently when a new user logs in the autoupdater wil launch telling the user that there's a new update available. That's great and all except that a) most users are not admins and couldn't do the update any way, b) we use Sassafras Keyserver and updating the App with IT will cause the keyserver functionality to stop which would then make us fall out of compliance with licensing, c) IT likes to make sure that ALL users are on the same version which means that we need to control when and how updates are installed.
Is there any way to do this and then have the settings propagate to all users?

    Hi,
There's no machine level setting to disable ARM for all users in MAC.
However, you could set the update mode to manual using Edit->Preferences->Do not automatically download or install updates. This has to be done by each user since the setting is user specific.
    Hope this helps.
Also, I have a small query. When Acrobat\Reader  installed as an admin is launched for a non-admin user, it requires admin credentials on first launch. Since most of your users are non-admin, how are they able to launch Acrobat\reader wihtout providing admin passwords?

  • After updating with Security Update 2010-001, Quicken will not auto update.  Auto update function in Preferences are also inop.  Numerous posts in Macbook discussions about similar problems with other apps.

Installed Security Update 2012-001.  Now Quicken will not auto save and the auto save function in Preferences cannot be changed. There are numerous similar comments in the Macbook discussions about other apps.   Come on, Apple, we need some help out here!

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • Downloading auto update for Acrobat Prof 8

After this update, my Adobe Reader X would not run.
It has security additions that took a long toime to set up  -  would these all be lost if I just re-install Adobe Reader X?
    Any suggestions please?

    Update by author (Michael423):
Rebooting the PC had no effect, and Reader X still would not load, but I used System Restore to a time just before installing the Adobe Professional 8 auto-update download.
A message from System restore said an unexpected error had occurred and the system had not been changed.
But Adobe Reader X would load after that.
This may be useful for others to try.
