Win XP 32bit RAID1 installation on Lenovo D10 642727M (250GB SATA x2)

I've been unable to get XP Pro installed with RAID1 on a new D10 and have read a variety of fairly relevant threads here on related matters.
The two SATA drives are connected as shipped to S1 & S2 ("SATA ports" as opposed to the alternate coloured "SAS/SATA" ports).
The onboard LSI controller has been disabled (for quicker booting and to avoid confusiion between what I understand to be two different RAID controllers).
The main system BIOS IDE settings show:
Serial ATA ENABLED
Native mode operation AUTO
If SATA is set to "COMPATIBLE", then there are no RAID options visible
If SATA is set to  "ENHANCED", then I can set:
SATA RAID ENABLED (no options then visible re AHCI)
     or
SATA RAID DISABLED, then I can set SATA AHCI to DISABLED.
It seems that I may need to install the OS on a sole HD and then add the second drive and switch to RAID1, but there are conflicting comments as to whether this is possible (without reload of the OS).
Should I be changing the SATA leads to the "X" connectors, enabling the LSI controller, and following Erik's advice regarding use of the LSI MegaRAID Storage Managerper his post at
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=ThinkStation&thread.id=849
There's lots of permutations of how to approach this, each one taking more & more time. Last one I tried was loading Windows as the only drive connected under SATA compatability mode (no RAID). I still used the F6 option to load the Intel RAID drivers, and then installed "Intel chipset software installation (INF) utility for Windows XP (32-bit) and (64-bit) - ThinkStation D10 (type 6428, 6493)" (which is listed as a valid download for my model). Then shut down, re-enabled RAID in main BIOS, noted that the drives flashed up as still being part of a two volume RAID config, then failed to start to load Windows - just a flashing cursor at top left corner of screen.
Has anyone implemented XP RAID1 on dual SATA drives this before?
Should I switch to the LSI?
Any advice would be appreciated else I may need to just go and eat some worms.

welcome to the forum!
admittedly, i've never set up a SATA RAID array using the intel controller on the D10 to know what's involved.   all of my arrays are SAS drives on the LSI controller.
you could use the LSI controller for your SATA drives.   in my tests of raw SATA drive performance, the LSI controller has faster read speeds than the intel, although the intel has faster write speeds.   if write speeds are more important then use the intel controller if possible.
in the BIOS, SATA must be set to "enhanced" for RAID to be configurable.
RAID setup instructions can be found in chapter 7 of the D10 hardware maintenance manual.   you'll want to configure your topography in the intel BIOS before installing an OS.
good luck!

i downloaded drivers suggested in other posts:

  • T61 upgraded to win 7 32bit Readydrive can't be enabled

I have T61 8889 AD3, operating system upgraded form vista 32bit to Win 7 32bit. The readydrive foucation of Intel turbo Memory can't be enabled after the upgrade. Turbo Memory report below:
    Kit Installed: 8.9.2.1002
    Shell Version: 8.9.2.1002
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
    OS Version: 6.1.7600  Build 7600
    System Name: MY-PC
    System Manufacturer: LENOVO
    System Model: 8889AD3
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     T7700  @ 2.40GHz
    BIOS Version/Date: LENOVO 7LETC6WW (2.26 ), 05/11/2009
    Language: ENU
    Intel(R) Turbo Memory
    Cache Disk Location: -1
    Model Name: None
    Capacity: 0 GB
    Installation Status: Present
    File: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\iaNvStor.sys
    Version: 1.10.1.1002
    Provider: Intel Corporation
    OROM Version: 1.10.1.1002
    OROM Status: Success
it seems that the readydrive caches wrong disk, as there is a hidden disk (unnamed, 6.17 GB) ahead of disk C:.
I tries to use drivers for Vista, but the installation process is always corrupted; when I put my T61 into hibernation, there is no Hibernation File option in Disk Cleanup as it used to be.
Does anyone have ideas for this?

Good News, my turbo memory works fine now. I reinstalled system, but the same symptom still occurs, but I solve it out

    You should know:
Firstly, some poeple say that enabling hibernate will active readydrive function, however it does seem work on my T61 with win7. Retired several times, it didn't help. Despite readydrive works fine now, I can not see Hibernation Files in 'Disk Cleanup', unlike the situation in Vista system.
Secondly, please check: Device Manager->Disk drivers click the properties of Hard Disk, then click Policies, you should see  both options in Write-coching Plicy ticked; you also see NV Cache option on the right of Policies.
Finally, once readydrive works ok, you should see 'Windows ReadyDrive Enabled Disk Power Savings Mode' under Hard Disk option of Advanced settings in Power Options.
    Following  Steps might help:
    Option 1:
    download 1.10.0.1012-8.9.2.1002 from
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67820
to you desktop, then unpack it (don't install). Next find the setup.exe from: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\Turbomem
right click->Run as a administrator. Once the driver installed, don't restart, and click Intel Turbo Memory Console, then tick both options. Restart
If option 1 does not help, please try:
    Option 2:
from the IBM link above download 1.5.0.1013-7.8.0.1012 to you desktop,
then unpack it (don't install), Next find the setup.exe from: C:\DRIVERS\VISTA\Turbomem
right click->Compatibility-> tick Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Vista
Once the driver installed, don't restart, and click Intel Turbo Memory Console, then tick both options. Restart
This driver does not work properly with win7 system, then you can follow option1.
I'm not technician and instructions above seem simple and unwise, but at least, my T61 readydrive function works properly now.
    Good Luck to you~!

LabVIEW application newly installed on Win7 64bit host throws error -50103.
Same aplication deployed from same installation disk on Win XP 32bit host have been working for 2 years withourt problem.
I did have a problem with importing the MAX configuration from the Win XP 32bit machine to the  Win 7 64bit machine.
My solution was to install all the drivers from my most recent Devaloper Suite 2012 DVD.
After that the executable did run fine, except when the variuos DAq tasks are executed for the second time in a loop it thows error -50103.
If i click ok on the erro popup, everything else works fine until in the next pass of the loop I get the same error.
Why would I get error on one host but not on the other one?

  • Coldfusion 9 Won't Install (Win 7 32Bit Prof)

I am trying to install CF9 onto my Win 7 32Bit pc.  I downloaded the install and got the huge 440MB+ file called Coldfusion_9_WWE_win.exe
I double-click that file and after a few seconds I see the InstallAnywhere app begin to extract the files....  After that completes, I see a JAVA icon pop up in the taskbar and from that point on nothing happens.  I did this a few times and on the last go I just let it run when I left for work.  When I came back home about 10 hours later, it was still doing nothing.  I checked the running processes and both Coldfusion_9_WWE_win.exe and Adobe_cf.exe are running but obviously nothing is getting installed.
I tried running it as administrator as well and that doesn't work either.  What else can I do?

Well - Just in case anyone else has this problem - I found the reason it was failing AND more importantly the
    fix....
So I extracted everything from the ColdFusion_9_WWE_win.exe file to see if maybe I could execute the install.  When you extract the file you get two folders:
    InstallerData
    Windows
Inside the Windows folder is the adobe_cf.exe file  When I clicked it, I noticed that almost immediately it wrote 3 files.  two files with a long number string and a .details and .notes extenstion and another called centaur_err.  When I checked these files I noticed some java errors - mainly the following:
    java.lang.nullpointerexception
This got me thinking that maybe my installed version of Java was not playing nicely with the installer.  So I checked my java version by going to the control panel and opening the JAVA control panel.  I clicked about and it showed I had Java.Version 1.6.0_16.  I then checked to see if there was an update.  There was - to version 1.6.0_20.  OK, so I updated Java.  I then deleted those 3 files that were written at the last botched install.  I kicked off adobe_cf.exe again.... Same crash - but something important stuck out....  SAME JAVA VERSION REPORTED - 1.6.0_16 not the newly updated version 1.6.0_20.
Could it be, the installer had cached my old version, or was it just not looking in the correct spot??????  There is one more file in the Windows directory that gets extracted, it is called adobe_cf.lax.  Let's check that one and see what's in it????  Low and behold there is the following line in this file:
    lax.nl.current.vm=resource\\jre\\bin\\java.exe
I changed this entry to point to my installation of JAVA ---- So my file now has this:
    lax.nl.current.vm=c:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe
I saved the file and ran adobe_cf.exe again, and YAY!!!!!! my install now works perfectly.

  • Video flicker on Compaq Mini 311c - 1020EO in Win 8 (32bit)

    Hello,
Upgraded my Compaq Mini 311c - 1020EO to Win 8 32bit and all seems to work except VIDEO Flicker intermitantly.
Tried to load Nvidia driver ( 320.00 and 314.22 ) but when I run the installation the drivers cannot id the hardware as being compatible ??
Please help with some ideas !!

    Hello PALaz,
I am  surprised you don't have more issues with Windows 8 working correctly on your machine, since it is an older machine.  Have you tried to install the driver in compatibility mode?
Visit HP Support and get the Windows 7 drivers for the hardware you'd like to try.
Download the driver to your desktop (your driver is here)
Allow the extraction to complete but close the installation process when it comes up.
Navigate to the C:\swsetup\ folder.  You will see your driver listed here.  They usually have a name like "sp56737".  Navigate to this folder.
Within your driver's folder you will see a "setup.exe" file.  Right click this file and select Properties.
    Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
Click the box that says "Run this program in Compatibility mode for..." and also select Windows 7 from the drop down menu.
Check the box which says "Run this program as administrator" at the bottom
Save these changes and double-click the "setup.exe" to begin the install.
Once the install completes reboot your PC and verify the functionality of the piece of hardware.
Please let me know if this helps.
    Good luck!

That sounds you are having a problem with the scanner driver, not Acrobat.  Are you installing the Windows 7 drivers with the correct bitness?

Actually, what you need to do is download the 9.2.0.1 database for Win NT/2000 and then apply the patch which will upgrade it to v9.2.0.3 for Win2003 server. The release notes on the page will step you through the process.

    Hi,
I tried to upgrade itunes to its latest version 9, but it always gives an error '32bit difx installer has encountered a problem...'. Anyone else had that problem? However, it installs itunes but it is not detecting my iphone connected to it now.
Does any one know if it could be due to itunes installation error?
    Thanks

I don't know the answer to this, but difx seems to be something new with the latest iTunes.
    See
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/install/DIFxFAQ.mspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd419822.aspx
Googling, there seem to be reports of Zonealarm identifying it as spyware.
It would be a good idea to try temporarily disabling your security software while installing iTunes in case you security software is interfering with the install.

    Hi,
install OBIEE 11g 4GB Ram required but 32 Bit OS Ram will show only 2.9GB Only?
3GM RAM will work but it will be running very slow (for practice obiee11g apps simple ok. make sure can can't use more application install) you go with 2.9GB ..practicing
How to install OBIEE 11G in 32 BIt version.
refer the below just go with simple install

for practicing better to go with simple (default configuration)
    2. Second Laptop windows 7 64bit.
I have installed successfully RC and web logic but while installing OBIEE 11g last 13 step configuration part its failed?
    please refer the below
    make sure the below thinks,
    1) Lookback adaptor (for setting Static IP address in your PC) check it CMD Propmt
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/windows/loop_back_adaptater
    2) JDK 1.6.0_29 or 31 32bit should be installed on your PC make Enviromnet path (Javac comment in CMD)
    http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Setting+the+JAVA_HOME+Variable+in+Windows
    3) if your obiee11g installation option is "Simple" you have to create and install RCU in your PC(execute RCU script,RUN rcu 32 bit on windos 7 os)
if your installation option ("Enterprise" or "Software Only") method befor installing obiee you shold install weblogi server 10.3.5/6 win 32 bit version and configure you domain.
Create Domain failed if it is failed almost remaining also fails finally my installation failed.?
make sure static IP address configured properly (looback adaptor) and make sure u r jdk is running and environment variable working condition
OBIEE 11g 64bit:- What type we need to select means(Simple/Enterprise, Software)
your case go with simple install (default config.) because enterprise/software only will need some more memory due to weblogic separate install

    Hi
Did you make a clean Win 7 installation or did you upgrade the Vista to Win 7?
I recommend a clean Win 7 installation. This is better because an upgrade from Vista to Win 7 could leave some junk on the HDD and some Vista tools/drivers would not be fully compatible with the Win 7 OS.
So make a clean Win 7 installation and then download and install the newest BT stack from this page:

  • Satellite M100-126 - Win 7 32bit indicates "only" 3GB of usable memory

    Hi,
    Here's the situation:
    I have a Toshiba satellite M100-126 (PSMA1E - 0PV021FR) running Windows 7 32bit.
It originally had 2gigs of Ram, but after my brother's laptop broke down (motherboard failure) I took his 2x2gig ram and installed them in my laptop.
At first, the BIOS only detected 3gig, so I flashed the bios using the one recommended by Toshiba Download center, i.e. v 3.0 , direct link http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/eula/calleula.asp?ID=66238 (if it works). There is also a version 5.6, only for Windows Vista, but I did not use that one.
So now, the bios detects 4gigs, and so does Windows, but windows indicates "only" 3gigs of usable memory.
In Windows resource allocation, 1gig is "hardware reserved", so it's 3gig usable memory. If I replace one of the 2gig modules by a 1gig module, I get only 2mb of hardware reserved, and the 3 installed gigs of memory are usable...
    Here are the questions, now:
I am aware of the memory limit for 32bit systems, and that I won't be able to use the full 4gigs anyway, but my brother got 3.5 gigs of usable memory on his 32bit system... Is it

Thanks for the answer, 3.2gigs then, must have understood the little bro wrong.. :-)
Yet, under Windows, in resource allocation, the memory used by the video card is indicated as similar whether I install 4 or 3 gigs of memory...
Oh well, not a big loss, when I find the time I'll run benchmark tests with both installs and see if there's a difference.
Any idea on whether I'd gain anything with Win 7 64bits or would it just be wasted on a 3y old system (Windows indicates it's 64bit compatible)
    Thanks!
