Windows 2008 R2 DHCP scope change - Netsh Exec not working

OK, there seems to be a disconnect between Netsh documentation and how it actually works.  We are in the process of re-addressing ALL our DHCP scopes (joys of a buy-out) and using the steps outlined in numerous MS articles and Blogs etc... we should
be able to use "Netsh dhcp server scope 192.168.1.0 dump > scope1.cfg"  then modify the cfg file with the new scope address (i.e. change all 192.168.1. to lets say 10.10.5.).  Then use netsh exec scope1.cfg (yes, the file modified) to
create the new scope which would contain all the "stuff" the current scope has (reservations, options, etc).
Well, all we get is the response "The following command was not found:   |".
Environment is as follows:
Account is a domain admin
working on a RDP session on the DHCP server
Server is Windows 2008 R2 (current functioning DHCP server)
Using administrative CMD (elevated)
have tried changing context into Netsh | DHCP | Server and default CMD - all "no go"
supporting link from MS: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772372(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_1
There's a lot of discussions around this, but I haven't seen any response that says how to actually do it.  export/import won't work for us since we have to update the scope info.  With almost 100 scopes to update, we really need this functionality!
(or similar method)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

OK...  It seems the issue is with the dump file.  I actually got exec to run once with a dump file which wasn't modified.  The stupid part is it only ran one time, I could not duplicate it.   Since
I've beat this thing to death and no one could offer any assistance (Hello MS?), I'm not wasting any more time on it.   Luckily, I was able to figure out an alternate method.
Looking at the dump file I realized all the lines are just a straight NetSh commands, which means all I needed to do is grab the lines and preface them with NetSh.  Like this...
for /f "tokens=*" %a in ('type scope.cfg ^| find /i "dhcp"') do NetSh %a
where scope.cfg is your dump file.   This runs perfect and seems to be the exact thing that exec should be doing.  I did flip the "SET STATE 1" to "0" so the scope was deactivated  (Don't forget to run it in an elevated
prompt).
Hope this helps someone else so they aren't spending days for nothing!

  • Windows 2008 DNS & DHCP configuration steps for 11gR2 GI install with GNS

    Hi,
I have windows 2008 R2 server with DNS & DHCP services installed. I am planning to install 2 node RAC with GNS option.
The problem is i could not find any document to setup the windows 2008 DNS server for the below steps.
    a. Configure GNS VIP : add a name resolution entry in a DNS for the GNS virtual IP address in the forward Lookup file.
    gns-server IN A <virtual_IP>
where gns-server is the GNS virtual IP address given during grid installation.
    b. Configure the GNS sub-domain delegation: add an entry in the DNS to establish DNS Lookup that directs the DNS resolution of a GNS subdomain to the cluster.
    clusterdomain.example.com. NS gns-server.example.com.
where clusterdomain.example.com is the GNS subdomain (provided during grid installation) that you
delegate and gns-server.clustername.com resolves to GNS virtual IP address.
I am aware that this configuration steps has to be taken care by the System administrator. Here is what he tried and the results.
My SA was able to Configure GNS VIP in the DNS and the Nslookup works fine for this.
When he Configures the GNS sub-domain delegation the nslookup fails when trying to resolve the SCAN name.
Any step by step tutorial for this windows 2008 DNS & DHCP configuration for Oracle GNS setup would be highly appreciated.

  • MBP 2008 Click disabled on trackpad, left click not working on mightymouse & wacom pen tablet.

    Hello,
    i have a problem with a Macbook pro 2008.
The trackpad click button is not working anymore
(i've already tried to remove the battery underneath and push the wire that's connected to the pad,
    nothing changed).
I've managed to sync a mightymouse, left click is disabled as well
    (but not right click).
Then i've tried with a wacom tablet. Right click works, but not left.
(also tested switching buttons, yet no left click).
    In conclusion :
left click is not functionning with any of the peripherals,
left & right click  are disabled on the trackpad.
I've also tried "tap to click" without success.
Does someone have any idea of what is happening?
And how could a have the left click back?
    Regards
    F

Since you have a 2014 MBP, by definition it is in the 1 year warranty period.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians sort the unit out for you.

Using Acrobat Pro X on windows 7.  The replace pages feature does not work.  Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

    Hi Todd,
I haven't heard other reports of this (though there was an issue quite some time ago where deleting pages on this combination of Acrobat/OS was challenging).
Can you please tell me what happens when you try to replace pages? Do you get an error message? Are you able to manipulate pages otherwise (delete, extract, and so on)? Is this issue unique to one file, or does it happen with all PDF files?
I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Window 2008 R2 DHCP setup for /21 subnets

I have a 2008 r2 domain server that I am setting up separate client DHCP scopes.  One for regular wireless network and one for the guest network.  I followed the same process to create both but they both created differently when viewed in the DHCP
mgmt interface.  The .40 is working, the clients grab the next available IP and they are off.  The .50 is not working correctly or the same way.  See detail below.
I created a Scope for the wireless network clients 10.100.40.0 /21 Range 10.100.40.1-47.254  subnet mask 255.255.248.0 The
scope created as a super scope and added scopes .40 .41 .42 .43 .44 .45 .46 .47 (all as separate scopes under the super scope) for distribution which is accurate according to the subnet calculator.  I excluded 40.1-10.  It works! clients fill up
.40 and move to .41 etc.  Statistics total scopes 8, total addresses 2023, in use 874, available 1149.
I created a scope for the guest wireless network clients 10.100.50.0 /21  same way! Range 10.100.48.1-55.254  (according to the subnet calculator)
subnet mask 255.255.248.0  The scope created as a regular scope 10.100.48.0 /21  starting address assigned is in the 48 subnet.  I excluded 10.100.50.1-10. Statistics total scopes listed none ( no line), total addresses 2036, in use 262, available
    1774.
I would prefer they both be set up the same way and functioning.  As I said earlier .40 is working great!  but .50 seems to have some .48 clients, 3 49 clients and a small group for 50 starting from the exclusion.  I am not sure it is working
correctly ... I have had several people tell me that they are not able to grab an IP on the guest network. I have tried to recreate several time with out any different results.
Anyone have any ideas why .50 is different and what I could do to fix this?  Thanks! chabo
    chabt

    Hi chabt,
Based on your description, I suppose that when you use
New Scope Wizard to create the super scope, you choose 24 in the
Length edit of Configuration settings that propagate to DHCP Client, that is to say, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Then the New Scope Wizard will prompt you create a superscope because the address range you specified is
too large for a single scope. If the subnet mask is 255.255.248.0, it won’t prompt you create a superscope.
About the Statistics displaying, please try to restart DHCP server to see if it can display normally.
About the problem that several users couldn’t obtain an IP address, because other users can get IP addresses, please check if they match the policies on your guest network.
Also, please check the DHCP logs to see if the DHCP server logged any related logs. Such as, you could find if the lease was denied, or if the DHCP server received the DHCP request or other useful information.
The dhcp logs are stored in %windir%\System32\dhcp. Please ensure that the DHCP server enabled audit logging.
To enable DHCP audit logging, in the DHCP console, right click
IPv4, click Properties, in the General tab, check “Enable DHCP audit logging” checkbox.
For more details about DHCP audit logging, please refer to the article below,

  • Server 2008 (64); arp, netsh are not working

    Hello,
Not sure I'm in the right forum but I did not find a more suitable one.
My server is running windows server 2008 (64) and has
6 Ethernet cards. Using CMD window I have to manually add an arp entry in the arp table with:
    arp -s 192.168.2.1 aa-bb-cc-dd-ee-ff
I have only one Ethernet card (out of 6) that has a the following IP address: 192.168.1.3
So I expect arp to add the above entry to arp table of this card.
But if I enter arp -a, it seems the entry is added to another card
which is configured to get IP from DHCP server. I do not have DHCP server so the IP is 169.??.??.??
    I also tried :
netsh -c interface ipv4 add neighbors “Network Card Name” “IP Address” “MAC Address”
But this did not add the entry also.
I tried the same on another machine (different hardware) with the same O.S and it worked fine.
    Can you help ?
    Best regards,
    Z.V

    Hi Dennis,
Based on your description, I understand that you configure redirected folder via Group Policy. If anything
I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Please logon the problematic computer by using that user who was redirected My Documents folder, then run
gpupdate /force command and monitor the result.
    à
Is there a registry change I can make to redirect the path from the local C' to the UNC path?
    Please type
regedit in Run to open Registry Editor and follow the path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Personal
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Personal
Please check if Value data was set to correct path.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

  • Runtime.getRuntime.exec() not working when Tomcat is made a windows Sevice

    Hi,
I am working on a web application which launches a exe file on subitting the form. I am using Apache Tomcat 4.0.6 to run the web application. Initially Tomcat was not made a windows service on my machine and when I launch an exe it is launching without any problems. I used the following command to launch the exe file:
    <code>
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:\\Program Files\\Mercury Interactive\\WinRunner\\arch\\wrun.exe" + strWROptions);
    </code>
The above command launches WinRunner on the local machine.
without using tomcat if I just compile and run a test program with this command, the exe is launching perfectly. But, Once I made tomcat a windows service on my machine the exe is not launching.
Also, a process is being created in the windows task bar named wrun.exe once I submit the form but WinRunner is not lauching on the desktop.
Can any one please help and suggest me.
    Thanks,
    Ramesh

The version of Java I am using is 1.4.2. Even without
using the string array as you mentioned, the exe
(wrun.exe) is launched on my desktop if I don't run
Tomcat as a windows service. But the problem arises on
    making it a service :-(
That is strange because going by the documentation what you have been using should never work. I can't test it though, I'm not on MSWindows at the moment..
Now, when I use this string array convention, I am
getting an error saying "The tool could not launch..
    some error occured".
That's not a Java error message, it must come from WinRunner. This means that you have succesfully started WinRunner (great!) but something else is wrong; maybe the parameters you pass to it are incorrect.
How would you run it on the command line? Like this?wrun -t "D:\L5_QE\L5A\Initial" -create_text_report on -runThat line executes the wrun program and passes it five parameters, not three. The first parameter is "-t", the second "D:\L5_QE\L5A\Initial", the third "-create_text_report", the fourth "on", and the fifth "-run". The array of strings that corresponds to that line isString[] command = {"C:\\Program Files\\Mercury Interactive\\WinRunner\\arch\\wrun.exe",
                    "-t", "D:\\L5_QE\\L5A\\Initial",
                    "-create_text_report", "on",
                    "-run"};

  • Remote desktop connection issue with an RDP client while connecting to some of windows 2008 and 2003 operating system flavors and not receiving SDin value choice 26 from DomainMCSPDU

    Hi Team
We have our RDP client and i came across with one issue "Expected data got 3" with this client.
This issue is getting while connecting some of below operating system flavors.
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Enterprise edition
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Standard edition
    Microsoft Windows 2003 servers
When we are trying to get RDP to those servers with our client, getting "Expected data got 3" error. One more main thing here is the specified error is not getting for all the servers of same operating system in above list.
Able to get the RDP console for those servers using mstsc client.
When i read the [MS-RDPBCGR] specification, i found the below points
mcsSDin (variable): Variable-length PER-encoded MCS Domain PDU (DomainMCSPDU) which encapsulates an MCS Send Data Indication structure (SDin, choice 26 from DomainMCSPDU), as specified in [T125] section 11.33 (the ASN.1 structure definitions
are given in [T125] section 7, parts 7 and 10). The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure.
In my code i am not getting SDin value as 26. Is it the problem with Remote desktop Licensing in RDP servers as specified in the specification like "The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid
Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure."
Could you please explain me is this issue is happening due to Licence configuration in RDP server and please provide support with server side configuration if any because our code works for other servers ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pavan G.

  • Windows Server 2008 x64 on Bootcamp: Ethernet drivers missing/not working

    Hello folks,
at the moment I try to get Windows Server 2008 x64 running on a new Mac Pro (Early 2009).
Installation of Windows Server 2008 x64 (Enterprise) worked out of the box. However, the ethernet drivers do not work. Ethernet cards are not detected and working due to missing drivers.
I have tried several different Intel driver packages. All of them report "No intel card found.". However, the vendor ID of the ethernet card clearly points to Intel.
I have not been able to find a driver yet, does anyone have an idea?
E.g. does someone know the exact chip name? The driver "name"? Anything else?
    Thank you in advance,
    Stefan

Erik - Thanks for the info!
I use 64-bit applications ... some notes on why:
enterprise supports up to 32GB of memory so the argument to use x64 for memory support is nullified.
... that's not correct.  x64 windows versions allow 64-bit addressing, so 64-bit applications created for x64 windows can take advantage of large amounts of cheap RAM as 32-bit applications cannot.  32-bit applications (they are all 32-bit applications in a 32-bit Windows version, even in Server 2008) are restricted to a limited process space of at most 2 GB.
It's true there is a LARGEADDRESSAWARE kludge to enable limited use of up to 3 GB by a user process (and there is an equivalent to this in Server 2008),  but this has gone nowhere because it is far more straightforward and more productive for an applications developer to simply go 64-bit rather than invest any engineering resources into a one-of-a-kind kludge for an era that is already past.
Yes, it is true that if you are stuck running 32-bit applications you have less incentive to use x64 windows.  But going true 64-bit is a huge advantage in reliability and performance.  Given the very low cost of RAM in modern times it makes sense to do so, even in notebook settings that are often limited to only 4 GB of RAM.  64-bit applications in Windows tend to have decisive performance and reliability advantages so whenever one competitor in a given segment makes the jump to 64-bit pretty much all of them must do so.

the script and it was never working after we moved the script to Win 2008 R2 server. After creating these 2 folders, it started working.
