Windows Resource Monitor update speed

Is it possible to change the update speed of Windows Resource Monitor (ie. the rate at which resource monitor re-draws the screen with the new sampled data, similar to what we have in Task Manager since ages)?
If the answer is yes, how?
If no, why there is no way? Currently it re-draws the screen every 0.5 seconds, so its extremely difficult to observe data if it keeps changing so frequently.

No, that's not what I am saying.
The performance monitoring tool uses a protocol to request data from all kinds of sources, including remote sources. This protocol is not a streaming protocol. I don't know the exact implementation, but from what I can tell it is a query / answer protocol.
There is a network layer in between, there is a service on the other computer communicating, that service is gather all kinds of health / process data.
Having to speed up the data logging frequency will produce a performance overhead on the other computer. That is probably one of the reasons that they never updated the protocol and the software to e.g allow you data acquisition frequencies in the 10s
of milliseconds.
To make an analogy: suppose you have a family car, with the standard engine, gearbox, and supporting parts that go with it. If you want to make that car go a lot faster, a lot more is needed than allowing you to push the pedal down further. The engine needs
to be able to deliver more power, the gearbox must be able to transfer the pwoer, etc.
The windows infrastructure underpinning the performance monitor is not designed to transfer and collect data in millisecond speeds. There is no 'easy' way to make it go faster because it was never meant to do that, just like my family car was not designed
to drive a formula 1 lap. the great flexibility and variety of the data it can collect is one of the reasons it is not meant to do this.

  • Windows Randomly Freezes when Resource Monitor Disk Highest Active Time Maxed Out

I'm getting this same problem as this person:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/4e33c8d9-fc3d-434b-8dd0-29965d1aa0a2
Except that it seems to happen at random.  While playing a game, browsing the net or when it's just sitting idle.
Hard drive light goes solid, the blue line (% highest active time) in the resource monitor disk graph stays peaked at 100% but
relatively little or no hard disk activity.
My mouse is also usually still responsive.
Some apps will continue to work, but if I click on them they will usually become unresponsive, same goes if I attempt to click on the Windows Start button.  If I'm playing a game, it will stutter or freeze and a .5-1 second sound clip will continuously loop
until it's done (meaning the hard drive light is no longer solid and blue line is no longer peaking).
It is also the same for me that occasionally the OS will freeze completely and I will need to hold down the power button to reboot, but this is usually more rare.
I've checked the Event Viewer and there are no errors that coincide with the problem.
I've run chkdsk and no errors were returned.  Same when I ran Memtest86+ to check RAM, no errors.

    Hi,
How about updating the BIOS and all devices' driver from the manufacture's site?
I suspect it is the task schedule running in the background. If you want to narrow down the issue, you may need some monitor tools and then analyze.

  • Windows 8.1 - Update consideration, resources, and known issues

This community KB article is being consolidated to help Lenovo customers who are early adopters of the Windows 8.1 update.  This article will be frequently updated to include information on recommendation on issues that have been reported and are currently being addressed by Lenovo product teams.   It is recommended that a backup of all data be made prior to starting the Windows 8.1 update.
Official Lenovo Windows 8 and 8.1 Support resources - list of officially supported systems, information on license keys, activation, upgrade / downgrade rights and more.
Update Drivers before upgrading to Windows 8.1. At this time Lenovo recommends that customers who are planning to install the Windows 8.1 update, first update to the latest version of device drivers and BIOS on the Lenovo support site and apply Windows updates.   Lenovo customers who are using ThinkPad, ThinkStation, ThinkCentre systems may elect to use the System Update to accomplish the Lenovo driver updates before updating to Windows 8.1.  System update 5.03 should be used.  If system update is downlevel, it should first update itself to version 5.03.  Windows 8.1 drivers are being packaged and made available for automated install through System Update; therefore initially a limited number of 8.1 updates may be reported through System update.   Updated drivers can still be installed manually by downloading from the support site.  Lenovo is currently working on the release and availability of Windows 8.1 drivers through system update.
Not finding 8.1 drivers for officially supported models on the Lenovo support site?  The driver list for some systems ( Helix for example) currently reflect a mix of drivers for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.  The Windows 8 drivers should work and have been tested, and compatibility designations are being revised to clearly reflect compatibility with Windows 8.1.  This updating of descriptions is expected to complete in early November

Windows 8.1 update is not listed in the Microsoft Store.   There are certain prerequisites that must be installed before the Windows 8.1 update will be installed.   Be sure to run Windows update and install all updates.  Reboot according to instructions, then re-launch the Windows Store and select Microsoft Windows 8.1 update.  For additional information on updating from the Microsoft Windows 8.1 preview to Windows 8.1 click here.  If the Windows 8.1 update is still not available, please visit support.microsoft.com
Windows 8.1 update fails with an error code. Try to refresh and ensure all Windows updates have been applied.  If a backup of all data has already been made, customers may elect to reset back to factory, perform all Windows updates, update Lenovo drivers, and then attempt the Windows 8.1 update again.  Please note: Reset back to factory will wipe out all data.
SOLVED - Black Screen with flashing pointer after install on some hybrid graphics equipped  systems , S440/540, T430/530    W530 could potentially be affected.   This issue has been addressed and Windows 8.1 updates on these models conducted after 10/29/13 should proceed normally.  A Lenovo support tip for S series has been released to assist any previously affected customers. Another tip for T430/530 and W530 series is available,  too.

I have a z580 Ideapad that came with Windows 8.0. Some materials on the Lenovo site indicate that this laptop should not be updated to Windows 8.1 due to provides with the video driver, other materials indicate that it is OK. Has the video driver issue been resolved? Are there other Windows 8.1 upgrade issues? Maybe I should avoid problems and just stay with WIndows 8.0.

  • After Windows 8.1 update Lenovo L420 has half the WLAN speed

After the Windows 8.1 update my L420 WLan only works with 55 MBit max. In Windows 8.0 it was between 120 and 150 Mbit. I have the 1x1 11b/g/n W-LAN-PCI-Express-Half-Mini-Card-Adapter. Lenovo L420 is 7854-4LG.
The WLAN driver is a Microsoft driver as in Windows 8 but a newer version.
How can I get the Windows 8 driver back?
Why doesn't provide Lenovo a driver as with Windows 7?
Is Lenovo not testing any of their Laptops for compatibility?
    Any help?

I found a solution in the meantime: I loaded  the driver for the RTL8188CE chipset from the REALTEK site.
Now I'm back between 120 and 150 MBit.

  • No Internet Connectivity Following Windows 7 Critical Update August 19th 20112

I experienced a Windows 7 automatic update (Downloaded and installed August 18th 2012 - evening) and when I attempted to access the internet on August 19th, I had no connectivity. Issue is not with wifi or service provider since another laptop functions
normally. I went to system restore as of 15th August and was able to access as normal. But upon closing down the session, the absence of the updates triggers another Windows 7 update automatic install and the exact symptoms return upon restart. Any idea
what the critical updates were for this period and which of them would cause this failure? Are there clear instructions available for starting from an acceptable state (August 15th) and only adding the updates that are compatible? What are the implications
of not installing a Windows 7 critical update? What resident programs are likely sources of incompatibility. I have the usual assortment of annoying Dell crap on my system and I use Mcafee antivirus (which is current and has completed a scan finding
nothing since this problem) but not a whole lot of other software that I can imagine would cause a conflict.

    You're welcome!
If you find the one that's causing the problem, Google the KB number and see if anyone else has had a problem with it, and what they did to fix it. Odds are, missing one update is not going to put your system at serious risk.
I would imagine that if there are enough logged complaints about an update, there would be an updated update (like that :-)? ) some time in the future. It has happened before. I wouldn't put too much stock in Microsoft monitoring these forums closely, but
I'm sure they must have something in place alerting them of a mass of particular problem posts.
I can't comment on the "Jumpstart wireless filter adapter" setting since I don't have that option on my laptop's wireless adaptor properties.
Edit: Please read this thread in the Answers forums if you have McAfee:

  • Finder windows do not update their content for ARD

Server (to which I am connected): MacMini (Late 2012) 10.8.3,
    Computers (with whom I am connected): MBP 2008 10.8.3, iMac 2011 10.8.3.
After connecting I open any Finder window and try to select files with the mouse (or Command-A). The window is not updated. If you move the window on the desktop, it is updated. All these actions are performed without the monitor connected to the server.
If you connect an external monitor, so no problem. When connected to the monitor to send the image looks much smoother.
This problem does not occur if the map files in the list view. The problem is present, if the map as icons.
Tried to restart the server - did not help.
Tried to install Combo update 10.8.3 - did not help.
The problem occurred suddenly, it seems after I added the video in iTunes. (That is up to the challenge I did not install any software or not an administrator password).
    How to fix it?
    Here's a short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtG1t6q9eFI
Also there is a server MacMini 2010 (10.6.8) - there are no such problems.

Found an interesting solution, I have not tried it myself yet, I'm waiting resistors

  • The cluster resource could not be brought online by the resource monitor.

I'm installing Exchange 2007 CCR at a set of Windows server 2008 Virtual Machines.
When I refer the doc to Configure the Node and File Share Majority Quorum, at the step 3 -
Bring the new File Share Witness resource online by running the following command:
Cluster.exe res "File Share Witness (UNCPath)" /online
    I got the following error:
System error 5018 has occurred (0x0000139a).
The cluster resource could not be brought online by the resource monitor.
How could I successfully Configure the Node and File Share Majority Quorum?

Your link brings me back to this thread.  Not sure why, as I was able to find the article you reference with this link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676490(v=EXCHG.80).aspx
To ensure this works, you need to make sure the Exchange Servers group is in the Administrators group on the server hosting your FSW.
FYI, Microsoft suggests that the FSW be hosted on a hub server.  This simplifies management, since the Exchange administrators will already be able to manage the server the FSW is hosted on, and all permissions are already in place for the messaging
    system.

  • Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

A close friend's machine was blue screening on boot so he had me take a look at it.  The error in the BSOD indicated Windows was having trouble reading from the drive.  Although the drive wasn't clicking, based on what I was seeing, it seemed pretty
clear the drive was on its way out.  I ran chkdsk, several times, and it found plenty of bad sectors but wasn't able to really fix anything.  Fortunately I was able to
    clone the drive using gparted
    run chkdsk
fix the master boot record, boot sector and boot configuration data store
    run chkdsk again
    Now all is well
Upon booting I noticed the system was dreadfully out of date: Firefox, Java, Reader, Flash - the works - so I updated all that.  I also noticed it was missing something like 50-70  Windows updates so I had to straight that right away.  It
managed to install 15-20 before failing with 80070057.  This to me isn't too uncommon so I rebooted thinking it wouldn't choke next time. Much to my chagrin, any subsequent attempts fail with error 80070057.  I even tried installing just a few updates
at a time, even just 1, and the error persists.  My assumption is that one or more files are maybe damaged and need to be fixed.
I ran sfc /scannow and it gets to about 27%, then fails with "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."  I did the following:
backed up the existing CBS log
    ran sfc /scannow again
watched the log in powershell via Get-Content C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log -Wait
    It started out strong

    C:\Windows\system32>
I've run into sfc issues in the past, and in one instance, booting the OS install DVD, and running sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows did fix the issue.  But I have to ask
Is there no way to do that while in Windows?  Can't I mount some WIM and do it that way instead of booting the DVD?
Is that the right course of action, or is/are there some other options I should explore?
Thanks for your time & guidance.

    Hi,
In my opinion, if you want  SFC to use a sourcepath to repair your system, you can just use in-place upgrade to do this:
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2

Thanks for taking the time to reply and for this suggestion.
The in-place upgrade is a wonderful potential solution, but the process requires the source media.  Most systems these days don't include the OS or recovery CD's because the manufacturers want you to pay for them.  And most consumers aren't spending
the $50-$70 dollars to get the media, which complicates things in situations like this.  So while they've purchased a machine and have a valid Microsoft COA sticker on the box, they can't do anything.
Also, to make matters worse, I posted this in the wrong forum as this is a Vista Home Premium PC.  [My sincere apologies for that. Mods please feel free to move/reclassify]  I do have a Vista Home Premium DVD, but its the 32-bit version, not 64-bit,
which is what this system is.  So unless I can locate a Visa Home Premium 64-bit DVD, or they upgrade to Windows 7 or 8 (which they probably should do anyway), we're sunk.

  • MSI GT70 audio not working with hmdi after windows 8.1 update

When I connect my laptop to the TV, the video comes out fine, but the audio for the TV does not show up in playback devices. It worked fine with windows 8, but after the windows 8.1 update it stopped.
I have tried updating realtek drivers, but it still doesn't show up. updating other drivers also doesn't work. plugging the cable into the computer then booting it up also doesn't work like it did for other people. This is really making me mad... any help would be appreciated.

Pah, no probs to my ext. monitor speakers via HDMI, GT70 0NE, Win 8.1.
Have you tried assigning HDMI one on audio tab as default and see if sound will come out to tv? if so then that was the problem.

  • Enabling Windows Performance Monitor in CF8

    Platform: Windows 2003 SP2, CF8 Standard (upgraded from CF7)
I can't seem to get the Windows Performance Monitor Counters
for CF8 to work in my newly upgraded installation.
    1) In CF Administrator > Debug Output Settings I tick the
"Enable Peformance Monitoring" option and click Submit Changes.
Message: "Server updated" appears and the box remains ticked.
However If I refresh the page or navigate to another and return,
    the tick is lost.
    2) Restart CF Service
    3) Open Perfmon and click Add Counters
    4) ColdFusion 8 Perfomance Object and Counters are all listed
correctly, BUT there are "no instances" in the box on the right and
therefore the "Add" button is disabled, so I can't add any
    counters.
    5) Checking in CFAdmin again, the "Enable PM" tick is still
    lost.
It all worked in CF7, however that was on W2K3 SP1.
SP2 is a new factor, could that be the cause?
    Thanks.

  • C655D-S5200: Resource Monitor says Percent Memory Used never exceeds 50%.

Planning to add memory to 3 GB installed. Resource Monitor says Percent Memory Used never exceeds 50%. Is this normal?  If so, why?  If not, what should I do?

If it's telling the truth, you don't need more physical RAM. We don't see anything else unusual in the measurements.
But that does seem suspicious. What happens to Hard Faults/sec as you increase the memory usage?
Can't hurt to read up on this. Maybe it will give you another idea on how to determine if there's something fishy in the measurement.
Here's an article on using Resource Monitor to measure memory from Tech Republic.
Investigate memory usage with Windows 7 Resource Monitor
And here's a blog by Ed Bott.
Windows 7 memory usage: What's the best way to measure?
Mark Russinovich (of Microsoft now) blogged a bit on how Windows 7 uses memory.
Pushing the Limits of Windows: Physical Memory
As Mark suggests, you might want to set up Performance Monitor (perfmon -sys) to graph available memory using the Available Bytes counter.
