Wine hangs
Hey guys... I've having this problem with Wine... whenever I run any wine program
[wsduvall@Asar ~]$ winecfg
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Then it just hangs there. When I Ctr-C, I get this:
err:module:attach_process_dlls "winspool.drv" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winecfg.exe" failed, status c000013a
Its really frustrating... Anybody know whats wrong?
So
[wsduvall@Asar ~]$ host `hostname`
Asar has address 192.168.69.101
Which should be correct.
I also edited my /etc/hosts to
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost asar
Still no luck...
And I've got another program hanging:
musescore:
fcntl64(14, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
connect(14, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(631), sin_addr=inet_addr("192.168.0.100")}, 16
Alright guys I think I've fixed it. Adding asar to hostname line was the fix. I only needed to restart. Thanks so much for the help guys!

SQL Developer 1.2 for Win hangs on startup
Hi.
I have a problem with starting SQL Developer (1.2, JRE included) on certain Windows XP machines - after closing the start-up extensions preferences dialogue window the interface hangs. A shadow of the dialogue window is still visible and the interface is frozen, with 100% CPU activity and no options available whatsoever. I tried waiting, but after 15 minutes there is no change. Restarting the system doesn't help, and on repeated tries the result is always the same.
I tried searching around this forum but couldn't find the solution. Can someone please point me in the right direction or perhaps tell me the possible cause?
Thanks in advance. Cheers!I just had the same problem. Only after changing to a Vista administrator user account I could successfully start sql developer.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. I really need some help. This laptop is driving me crazy! It's making me consider getting a different brand, because I have had nothing but problems since I had this thing. I hope newer models of MSI laptops work better than this.
1.) For some reason, my laptop won't charge. It says that it's charging, but after hours of charging it still says 21 percent. This has been going on for like 6 months now, after I had the dc jack replaced the first time. Once replaced at that time, I kept smelling a burning smell so I had the dc jack replaced again! After the second time, it charged for a little whtile but the all of a sudden it stopped.The bios and the firmware are updated and still no luck! Not sure what else I can do!
2.) For some reason, when I press the turbo on, or use set fsb, it locks up, or "freezes", then I have press the power button to restart it! I
I am really starting to think that something is wrong with my bios. As stated earlier, I have had nothing but problems with this thing. My laptop is out of warranty so I what ever hardware changes it may need I have to pay for it myself. Can anyone please help me?
Win 7 ultimate 32bit
4.00gb ram
Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.20ghzFor 2) problem - have you changed bios settings, for example RAM freq settings from auto to 800? I have GX623 and after changing ram settings from auto to 800 I can`t press turbo button, because after I press it or win hangs up or shows blue screen. I think it is because, when you press turbo button it tries to overclock ram even higher than 800.
But in auto mode, and with turbo of it works on 667mhz, but with turbo on 800.
Is there is newer bios than yours? Maybe try update it.
Sorry for my bad english ) -

Hi guys, I have a user running Office 2013 on Win 7 32 bit, randomly when opening excel files, excel will say not responding but it will eventually open the files, this can take 5 mins, the only thing I can see in the event log is the software protection
service starting/stopping etc all around the same time, users are very unhappy as its stopping them from working, any ideas.
ThanksHi,
Regarding Excel hangs, not responding issue, this could be caused by several things. Please check the below KB for the different scenarios:

LR 4.4.1 on Win 8.1 suddenly started to hang when importing via usb from camera
I'm running LR 4.4.1 on Win 8.1 on a fairly new toshiba laptop. Worked fine for a few months; but then I have been unable to solve the problem of Lightroom hanging when I try to import directly from my camera via USB. If I download pics from the camera using file manager, and then point LR at the new folder [once the camera is unplugged], it can then see the folder on the hard drive and will import them without issues. But if the camera is installed, going to the import screen hangs the application.
I have tried:
deleting the lock file
installing and running LR 5
reinstalling LR 4disabling all the usb drivers, rebooting, and enabling
disabling everything in the start menu
deleting the preferences file and letting LR build a new one..
I can import from the SD card reader, but I nervous about that as I have had card corrupted before and lost pics when downloading that way with other laptops.
The camera is a Sony NEX-5N.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Steve

Amazon has got special price for buying both packages together. I believe it is a difference of about $20, i.e. you pay 20 bucks more if you buy both products. -
Firefox 31 CONSTANTLY hangs in Win 8.1 . . . and as usual, FF reps on this site blame anything and everything but the culprit: FF. It is quite maddening. I would love for a software company to own up to their own problems. It would be SOO refreshing.

Problem with program hanging randomly on certain commands from win 7 pro client to SB Server
Having a problem with program hanging randomly on certain commands from Win-7 Pro Client to SB Server Both 64-Bit
Five other slower XP-Pro 32 Bit systems though they are older and slower systems do not seem to hang as readily if at all.
It has been very frustrating as the Client-System, SB-Server and Program should work w/o any hitches, but this seems to work fine @ times and then hang randomly.
Would appreciate any and all suggestions in assisting.... JimBAgde-MSSYou can try this, as I have had similar problems with another MS Access .MDB file and slow access before. This fixed my problem for me. On the slow computer, make sure the program is set to see the .mdb file via UNC path, not a mapped drive letter. ex.
USE: \\yourserver\shared\dental\file.mdb
DO NOT: S:\\shared\dental\file.mdb
hope this helps -
HP D1520 Series printer test page hangs on connected windows XP or win 7 PC
I am new to the Mac world but have been using iPad and PC for a some time. I have installed a HP D1520 Series printer to my Win 7 laptop. I then connected my recently acquired 2008 MacBook pro to the recognized printer with my fresh install of Mt lion. When I send a test page it goes through its pre print routine but does not complete print job. If i connect the printer directly to Mac it works fine. My specific questions are as follows.
1. Is this likely a driver issue with Mt Lion?
2. Can I work around this issue with a Airport Express or Extreme or will I likely in counter same driver issues?
3. If I use wireless express or airport option does it matter if it's a/b/g/ or n?
Bottom line I want to be able to access my printer with of iPad, Mac, or Win 7 laptop.Yes USB only printer
Device holding it? It is pluged in to my win 7 Laptop and Mac is connected through a Network Share to that printer so connection is not the propblem. I also set up file shares with no problems. Since my printer is not hooked up with a Mac or Airport device Bonjour does not reconize my printer. My print job hangs hangs in the middle of request making me think it is a driver issue that has not been resolved.
By wireless protocol I guess you mean it does not matter if router is a/b/g or n
Other than checking for software updates, is there another way to update a driver like on a win 7 machine.
thanks for your help..... -
Hangs with 1.3.1 and now 1.4.1 - Win XP
I was running LR 1.3.1 and now within the last week I moved on to 1.4.1
to see if this problem was any different. Unfortunately - they are
behaving the same. My system is a custom PC running Win XP2 - 2GB on an
Intel Quad Core 2.4ghz processor.
The basic problem is that from time to time - LR will freeze up - and
when it does I always see two things - the first and most noticeable is
that the standard Windows frame gets painted over the top of the normal
dark grey LR window frame, and when I look in my task list - I see two
LR program entries.
Some times when this happens - it will eventually snap out of it - and
allow me to continue - but other times I run out of patience waiting
(have waited up to 5 minutes or longer) to get control back and have to
kill LR via the Task Manager.
I have tried deleting the prefs file to make sure that it was not
corrupted. I have also removed the V2 Beta copy from this machine just
to make sure that wasn't causing any issues. Neither of those things
seemed to help alleviate this problem.
I am in the process of optimizing my db (I have over 40,000 images in it
so far - and have done a fair amount of deleting over the course of time
to remove unwanted images) - so perhaps that will help.
It is hard to tell whether the hang is causing the UI effect that I am
seeing - i.e. w/o the hang - that windows standard frame appears and
disappears so fast normally that you can't notice it - or if the hang is
related to the UI itself.
Anyone seen something similar?[email protected] wrote:

I continued to see UI related hangs as I described above - even after
optimizing the database. It was not as bad by any means - but not
acceptable by any standard - sometimes I would have to wait 30 seconds
or so for the UI to free up and the normal LR window border to replace
the ugly blue Windows default border.
Even though I had selected the My Documents (and all subfolders) in my
settings for Norton AV to be excluded from Auto-Protect, I decided to
try out turning off autoprotect altogether to see if that might be the
culprit.
Sure enough - turning that off completely got rid of the random
sluggishness that I was seeing. I am guessing that perhaps a recent
update of the NAV software caused the feature to work differently and
perhaps ignore the settings to bypass certain directories - because I
didn't see this behavior until recently.
Folks with NAV installed (my version is 2007 - part of Norton Security
- should probably take a look at this to see if this makes the same
performance difference for them. -
I have not tried resetting Firefox 31.0 as I do not want to lose any of the thousands of bookmarks. It also hangs forever whenever I try to go to the bookmarks drop down just to go to a bookmark or even "Show all bookmarks" to create an exported .html file to back them up in case I lose them. When I do a complete and proper uninstall of Firefox 31.0, I am never asked to keep the personal files and settings as I had been in the past with previous versions of Firefox. I downloaded the latest freshest copy of the install file from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-stub&os=win&lang=en-US and installed it again and all the defaults and bookmarks came up just as before my uninstall. The problem still persists IE 11 and the latest Google Chrome installed on this same PC do not have this issue. What could have caused this and how do I fix it on a brand new PVC that all these browsers were working fine on for over a week until two days ago I started experiencing this with Firefox 31.0?
''''' "When I do a complete and proper uninstall of Firefox 31.0, I am never asked to keep the personal files and settings as I had been in the past with previous versions of Firefox." '''''
That option upon uninstalling Firefox was to '''"Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations"''' - not to "keep" it. Regardless, that feature was removed from Firefox recently. -
Torch update to 6.0.0.448 hangs Win 7 Blackberry Desktop in Address book update
First attempt at using Win 7 Desktop update since updating 9800/Torch to 6.0.0.448 and the desktop hangs "Processing Device Address Book". Shows Record 189 of 189 and never completes.
Reset the Desktop Organizer configuration to ground zero and re-configured. Works now, but did duplicate a lot of my calendar events. Just a bit buggy....

C application hangs intermittently on invoking Closehandle() function in Win 7 64bit OS
Hi,
I have a application which basically deals with network operations like begin session, send/receive etc. The application also has mutex create, request and close. Before terminating the transaction between the client and server, there is a call to Closehandle()
while clears that mutex that was created during initialization. (Mutex is released prior to close). During closing the mutex, in Windows 7 64 bit OS, the application goes to hung state intermittently. The same application used work without any issues in Win
XP.
PS: The C application is written in Visual Studio 6.0
Hence requesting for any thoughts to resolve this problem!!
Thanks in Advance!Hi,
When application hangs, it needs to be restarted. Yes, this problems happens sometimes.
With respect to the anti-virus and firewalls, I had tried turned off firewalls and anti-virus but did not help!
This application basically acts as a network layer which is the bridge between client and server.
Below is the code snippet from the app which shows about mutex creation, request and close. I had configured ADPlus to the application to check on which line of the code the hang occurs and from that dump file could notice that the cause for the hang is
Closehandle() function.
Code snippet -
typedef unsigned long OSLMUTEXSEM;
extern OSLMUTEXSEM gsemCrypt;
void PASInitialize() {
char * pMutexSemName;
DWORD NTRC;
pMutexSemName = gsemCrypt;
oslRc = MutexSemCreate((char*)NULL,&gsemCrypt)); //Mutex creation by calling CreateMutex() function
oslRc = MutexSemRequest( gsemCrypt, SEM_WAIT_FOREEVER); //Request the semaphore by calling WaitForSingleObject() function -infinite //timeout
// some operation
oslRC = MutexSemRelease( gsemCrypt )); // release the mutex by calling ReleaseMutex function
void PASTerminate(){
oslRC = MutexSemClose(gsemCrypt); //calling Closehandle()function to close the mutex
WSACleanup();
From the dump files, it was noticed that the hang happens at the call MutexSemClose(..) function which in turn calls windows function Closehandle(). -
NIK Silver Efex Pro 2 hangs CS5 W/100% CPU Win 7 64bit
I'm running Win 7 64bit and CS5 64bit and it works fine until I load Silver Efex Pro 2 then CS5 hangs and CPU is @ 100%. I have to force close CS5.
I also have SEP 1 and that works without a problem.
I also run XP Pro SP2 on a completely different hard drive that get switched in and out with my Win 7 hard drive, NOTE these two OS's are not in the system at the same time (sorry but some on these forum get confused about that), and run CS5 32bit on that install and SEP runs fine on that OS and CS5 32bit.
What could cause this. I will be contacting NIK tomorrow about this problem.
Anyone else haviing this problem?
Thanks.Not helpful?
In this thread alone you asked whether anyone had seen a problem. I bumped the thread back to the top so it would be seen more. Yes, I really did think about that when I made my first response in this thread, which otherwise had 0 responses and had fallen off the first page. It was a "matter of fact" response, intended for you and future readers, no condescension intended.
You asked about licensing services and I named them.
But these things are not helpful in your opinion. No "thanks for the information" or even "thanks for your response". Just a "Gee Thanks" with an attitude.
Unlike you, when you address me, I respond. I asked you a question, but you ignored it.
And now guess what? I don't particularly feel like doing you a favor and trying to remember that you would prefer me not to respond to your comments. Tell you what: You continue to post when and where you want, and I'll do the same.

Photoshop cs5 64-bit hangs all the time when editing photos on Win 7 64-bit?
Recently installed Master Suite Collection CS5 on Win 7 64-bit. The computer is a 64-bit i5-480 CPU Lenovo and has an Intel HD GPU. Photoshop CS5 64-bit hangs constantly when I load a picture for editing and there is no way to get rid of the photoshop process except for a reboot. Have tried PSkill, and other options and nothing can get rid of it excetp for a re-boot. This is a major pain because I cannot get any work done.
The Master Suite cost me a fortune and can't get a basic application to work properly
Help!!!Let me first start by saying the Intel GPU drivers that implement OpenGL are often faulty. That's quite possibly the root cause of your problems.
If you reconfigure Photoshop not to try to use the OpenGL subsystem, via Edit - Preference - Performance, and unchecking the [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing checkbox, does it get any better? Make sure to close and restart Photoshop after making this configuration change.
It is possible Intel has released newer drivers that may have corrected the OpenGL problems. Check their web site.
