Xfinity HotSpot FAQs

Just as a reminder here is the FAQ’s for the Xfinity Hotspot http://wifi.comcast.com/faqs.html
I have been getting a lot of requests to disable the hotspot, so I wanted to post this along with a quick how-to.
To disable the Hotspot connection, visit My Account at https://customer.comcast.com/, click on “Users & Preferences”, and then select “Manage XFINITY WiFi.”
If you still have issues, please feel free to PM me with your account information and  please add “Disable Hotspot” in the subject line.
You can PM me here: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/tab/compose/note-to-user-id/5707303
If you do not receive a response in a timely manner, please feel free to post your request within the forum (do not include any of your account information) and someone will get to the request ASAP.
Thank you!
(And thank you ComcastTuska for assisting me with getting this setup.)

What you have been doing ComcastJesse is admirable but it doesn't address the root problem. I'd like to be able to turn the WIFI Hotspot on and off when I want. The error message we receive is extremely vague. We've yet to get any kind of service update or timeline for a solution. As a customer I don't want to depend on a message board moderator to turn the WIFI on and off. I want to do it myself. I've done the live chat with Comcast service and they couldn't answer a single question. Frankly I think the ability for customers to turn the WIFI Hotspot  on and off has been permanently disabled by Comcast and it's not going to return. Until I can decide for myself when I want the WIFI Hotspot to operate, I'm going to continue to perceive that Comcast has decided to take away the option from the customers.  ~CD~ P.S. Don't turn off my WIFI Hotspot.

  • Wifi xfinity vs comcast personal a/c (w/password)

I too would like to know why my iPhone wifi keeps going to xfinity unlocked account where I cannot cast into TV -- there is no casting box in corner of netflix for example. It used to drive me crazy trying to figure out why casting box would randomly disappear until I went to settings and saw that wifi has changed to xfinity -- never having requested it. If I click on forget this network will it be accessible if I were to need it for some reason when my private one isn't running ? Also I have people down the hall on my condo building who steal everything. Do you think they've managed to piggyback on someone else's account ? Something's been messed up on my service and it would figure if it were this group of thieves. Just bothers me to have crooks on what was before such a safe and congenial condo group. But that's unrelated to this problem. Or is it ?

Yes you can forget that connection.  You will still be able to connect to Xfinity public hotspot when you want.  If you go to General settings for Wireless doesn't your own connection show up?  Xfinity probably showed up and it automatically connected to it because you had connected to it before somewhere else.  That can be handy but can drain your battery having Wireless turned on all the time like when you are away from home.  The Wireless keeps trying to find a signal to connect to and if it see an Xfinity hotspot it will automatically connect to it.  So turn your wifi off when you don't need it.

  • IPhone 5 not connecting to Comcast hotspots

On my iPhone 5 I can't connect to any xfinity hotspots. I can connect to other wifi hotspots and my home network just fine and my iPad with ios 6 connects to xfinity hotspots with no problems. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Also before ios6 update my iPad could pick up weak wifi signals and now if cant even find them.

    zolala:
Virgin media is my internet provider, and I have rung them too; They talked me through the router settings, but the iPhone is "unsupported".
    My router settings are correct.
Can you explain "...are you using Apple Airport Extreme for hm network?..." please?
    raymond73:
I have an "old Dlink GSL624" and I dug this out, but can't find the factory code for the passphrase (I had to reset to factory default)
If nothing else works, I'll get onto Virgin media and threaten to move isp unless they send me a new router. I have been with them for - well the days of dial up - well over 10 years probably.
I am currently restoring the iPhone to its factory default. I will set up as a new phone to test, and IF it works, I'll then restore to backup - If it stops working after this, I'll have to copy all my contacts somehow, and then start from scratch again.
Any idea how I can copy just my contacts somewhere I can restore them from easily?
    Thanks

  • How to get in touch with a rep?/Turn off wifi hotspot

Hello, i am not seeing an option to get in touch with a Comcast Rep.I understand that it is late, but i do not see an option to start a live chat, or send an email. Also all of my attempts at calling have ended with the line being disconnected while being transfered to an agent.Being such a big comapny, its a little fustrating that i cant get ahold of anyone. Anyway, sorry for the rant, maybe someone here can help faster then someone who works for the company. I am having horrible connection problems, and i just recently found out im providing internet to the public. I have followed the steps to turn off the xfinity hotspot, however i do not have a link to "Manage Xfinity WiFI" under service adress.  My Model number is SMCD3GNV

Bruce, thank you for the link.
What used be under the service address in Users & Preferences was moved to the Services/Internet.
It must be a recent change because the date of the help topic you linked to is June 22, 2015.
I cannot find the help topic which has instructions to disable it under Users & Preferences (which I had seen in the past) so it must have been pulled AFTER Nathanma123 saw it. It was still there in early June because I saw it there when helping someone at Bleeping Computer.
I did think it was odd that the feature was under Users & Preferences. Services/Internet is a better place for it.

  • Cannot load Xfinity WiFi login page

Sometimes I'm out and about and need to get online. Now that I have Comcast I look for Xfinity Hotspots, however neither my phone nor my laptop will load the login page when I connect to the hotspot. I try to navigate manually (wifilogin.xfinity.com or wifi.comcsst.com for example) but it still doesn't work. Is it me, is it my browser, is it the hotspots? How do I fix this?

You only need to logon once, then it remembers your MAC address to logon automatically.  If your visiting non Comcast area's with sharing arrangements to access cablewifi spots, then you might need to logon with your Comcast credentials.
To confirm you devices are registered by the xfinitywifi system, and delete devices tagged to your account go to your account on comcast.net and go to my account / my services / xfinity internet.  There you will find a section to manage your devices for hotspot access.  Review the registered devices, clear out ones you no longer have and your should be good to go.  If you clear the complete list, then once you connect to xfinitywifi, you will be prompted to logon, again that is only needed once.
There is also a 5 or 6 device limit, so if your list is full and your current devices are not listed, then things need to be cleaned up.

  • My computer will not access the sign in page for hotspot

I am using a Toshiba laptop w/windows 7. I am connected to the xfinity hotspot but it will not redirect to sign in screen. I have tried typing in the direct URL and it tells me no internet activity can be detected, page not available. I have used multiple URL's I found listed on another board and none get me there.

On Comcast.net go to your account / services / xfinity internet, there is a link to manage devices for xfinity wifi
Your device only needs to sign in once to xfinitywifi, then it automatically logons on from there on.  Look at that manage devices page and see if your equipment is listed.  You might want to clean up devices that are not familar, or even delete everything and start over.  Then see if you can connect to a xfinitywif hotspot.
There is no url to go to, it either connects automatically, or a sign in page will pop up only the first time with that device.

  • Xfinity WiFi

In the xfinity WiFi find a hotspot webpage it show two 'types' of hotspots. "Single Hotspot" and "featured Hotspot". What is the difference?

The Xfinity hotspot, ITSELF, is an open connection anyone can connect to, like most hotels.  It's not password protected and your modem connects as the AP (access point) is not password protected.  So it logs in.  Your username/password is given to a piece of software AFTER you logon in a central station that looks up your Xfinity account from anywhere on or off the system to determine if you get SERVICE, not a connection to the AP.  What he told you won't work. You don't need to "disconnect" from one wifi to use another.  You don't need to wait for the Xfinity wifi connection to complete and don't need to username/password before you can simply, very simply, just connect to whatever AP you like from your list of APs on your computer.  The computer will disconnect from Xfinity (or any other AP) and connect to the one you've told it to.  So, let it connect to Xfinity, if it finds it, then just click whatever other AP you desire even while it's connecting without waiting.

  • Home Sharing Questions

    Hello,
I have two questions regarding home sharing while I am on vacation. I understand that if I am not on the same network, I will not have access to my files on my iMac or my PC, however, I do have two questions:
    1. If my iMac and my iPad are signed into the same VPN, will home sharing work if I am on vacation? Both my iMac and my iPad will be signed on to the same server.
    2. I have Xfinity as my Internet provider, and they provide hotspots all over the country that are free for me to use. Since my iMac/PC are on thee Xfinity newtwork, if I sign into the Xfinity hotspot while, say in Maine and my equipment is in Florida, will home sharing work?
My fear is that I must be logged into the same network ID, and they will not be available to me. However, I do have two Network ID's (one is a 2.4Ghz and the other is a 5GHz and they have different names, and Home Sharing does work if my AppleTV is on one and the iMac/PC/iPad is on the other.
The same questions I guess will apply to my AppleTV device, however, if I can get access to my Home Sharing on my iPad, which along with my AppleTV device, I will be bringling with me, I can always change the airplay to play on the AppleTV from my iPad.
Even though I have a WIFI Seagate drive that I use as both a backup and storage for my photos (I am a professional photojournalist) I have all my iTunes files backed up on that device (good thing because if an artist pulls their work from iTunes and you store it Apple's Cloud, it will be deleted) and had I not had a backup, all the Celtic Woman concert videos (close to $60 worth) would be gone
Anyway. thanks for taking your time to read this and considered answering.
    George McGinn
    Venice, FL
PS. These questions are important for me as I plan to spend 3 months every year traveling throughout the country doing street photography and travel photography as I also shoot stock for Getty Images, so if my movies and music are especially my Home Movies (I have instructional videos and PDF files in iBooks that I may need access to) are not going to be available, I would hate to drag my desktop with me. I will take my WIFI drive and use its player to play my music, as while I can change the directories on my iMac to point to the external drive, I do not know of a way to do this on my iPad.
If I get a travel trailer to use instead of staying in hotels, I may just bring my iMac with me. But I really would like to leave it save in my house.

The answer to both questions is no.
It only automatically syncs new purchases from the iTunes Store between devices, and even then only tracks purchased after the option has been turned on. It won't do a catch up sync to start with.
Non iTunes Store purchased tracks have to be imported manually.
You can view all the tracks that are in the source library but not in the target library.
Then select them all and hit the import button.
All that will do though is transfer the music, it will not move playlists, etc.

  • No Longer Can Connect to Server on Apple TV?

    Hi Everyone,
Where to begin.  My Apple TV stopped working approximately three weeks ago.  I remember it well.  I had just purchased an album on iTunes using my Apple TV and the screen blinked about six times.  Then, it turned off.  I'm honestly not sure what happend right after that.  Now, when I turn it on from sleep mode, I get a screen with just two icons showing after hitting the back button: Computers and Settings.
I've tried unplugging power cords and connecting cables (for both Apple TV and television).  I've also already read some of the discussions here and tried Reset, Restore, and Restart.  No good.
I've also noticed, at the same time, that I could not download the album I bought on iTunes using my Macbook. iTunes would ask me multiple times to sign in, yet it would not let me download the purchase.  I even tried to do this on my iMac at my parents' house.  No good.  I was told I had to authorize the computer when it was already authorized and the only option was to deauthorize it.  Even that didn't work.
This is also the exact same time where I stopped using Verizon as my Internet provider and started using the Xfinity hotspot.  In the Settings tab, I have the Xfinity hotspot chosen and it's showing full strength.  The hotspot works for my Macbook and iPhone perfectly, full bars.
The only progress I've made, about two days ago, was that iTunes finally let me download the album I purchased onto my Macbook.  I'm not sure how or why.
    I really need help.  SOS.

You have a network issue.  ATV can not connect to the internet.  The fact that you also could not download to your Macbook until recently means more than just the ATV was effected.  The fact that NONE of the icons are there means that there is no internet access at all.   Meaning that iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, etc. are all not able to connect.  The service strength indicator is just showing the WiFi single strength.  It is not an indication of actual internet access.
You mentioned you used to use Verizon.  Was this cellular internet service?    You might try contacting this new service provider and asking if they limit or throtal some online services like Netflix or iTunes.  Some service providers do.  Since the problem started with this new service provider you might contact them and ask them to look into the problem.

  • Hidden SSID on DPC3941T

I am not able to enable/disable the Xfinity hotspot on the DPC3941t gateway.  It is disabled by Comcast.  I did have it enabled on my previous one, the TC8305 and it worked well as a guest network.  I was disappointed that I could not enable it on the DPC3941t.

Hello, I read the previous postings on this subject and although one was listed as solved, the solution was not posted.  I have turned off both Wifi 2.5gHz and 5.0gHz and the DPC3941t is still broadcasing a Wifi hidden network with a MAC address one number off from its 2.5gHz one.  So the Wifi is not really off.  I was told by Comcast tech support that I could not enable the xfinitywifi on this gateway; that it had been disabled by Comcast because it interfered with the bandwidth.  So it is still there, and still broadcasting, but I cannot use it.  If there is any way to disable wifi on this box, please reply.  I have one other issue with the DPC3941T, which I just received yesterday, but I will start another thread for it.  Thank you.  Kathleen Matlock

  • HT201415 iPhone is unable to access into internet use wi-fi connectoins

    Hi,
When use Wi-Fi connections sometimes can't get access to the network. Phone get ip and successfully connected to Access Point.
    Use Wi-Fi Router: D-link DAP-2310

I won't be able to find out for a to maximum of 72 hours regarding why I can't connect to the xfinity hotspot. I won't be at the location I'm the at now for the next 72 hours.
As a temporary workaround, I signed up for a free one hour trial of internet service by being a 'new member.' That will have to do for now.

  • Has New Router or Antenna Helped WiFi Dropping Issues?

Hi, I'm helping someone get setup with their brand new MacBook (2.26Ghz White). It's only 3 days old, but could not reliably connect to their wireless network anywhere except in the same room as their router. They have a Netgear WGR614 router.
When in the room with the router, everything works great, but once out in the main living room (just down a very short hallway), they get constant dropouts or the computer won't connect at all. I would say it connects maybe 10% of the time. But an old PC laptop, my Android phone, and the living room TiVo all connect perfectly and never drop out, no matter where we walk.
I've read through some of the threads, and most are concerning older machines. But I spent a couple hours with 2nd level Apple tech support today, and they concluded after much testing that it may be hardware related. So we ended up taking it back to day and swapping for a completely new machine (instead of having the Airport card replaced). But this machine has the SAME EXACT PROBLEM!
My signal strength in the main area averages around -60 to -70, which should be fine to connect. And it appears to be on a pretty clear channel.
    - So, if it's not hardware related (or if all MacBooks will have this same issue), I'm wondering what other solutions people have tried that has given some success?
    - Anyone try extension antennas for their routers? If so, which work well and are affordable?
    - How about specific routers known to work well with Mac (better than Netgear)? The Airport Extreme BS is just too expensive for what it offers.
THANKS! If we can't get this working in this small, basic setup, we'll probably have to try something other than Mac unfortunately.

Tech came out replaced with, I think there newest TG1682g and everthing great. All areas of the house and fast! Lasted about five days, now Wifi dropping out. But what's really ticking me off, is the Xfinity hotspot broadcasting just fine. Hadn't gotten around to turning it off yet. Hey Comcast, what gives!!!Your decision on the public hotspot on your equipment...me ?  I turned it off....Have you used a wireless scanner to see if you are getting stomped on by surrounding wifi APs?   Channel congestion can impact your system....

  • How to format posts in this forum.

<p>As you may have noticed posts in this form lose all formatting when you post even when you use formatting tags. Unfortunatley this well known yet mysteriously unresolved issue is true for almost all of the recently added forums, which seems a pity because several, like this one seem to be in concept a good idea.</p>
<p>Of course no formatting is a pain because it creates unreadable posts.</p>
<p>But wait there's a paragraph break! And here's another one! How did I do this?</p>
<p>Thankfully the same bug that means that normal formatting tags are not enabled for this forum also means that HTML tags <b>ARE</b> enabled for this forum.</p>
<p>Feedback has been reported on this issue since early June to no avail and I don't expect any change any time soon so I thought I'd let those interested in participating in this forum how they can actually post posts that can be read.</p>
<p>Finally here's a quickie HTML primer to help those who need it.
    <br><center><table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">
    <tr><td><b>Tag</b></td><td><b>Description</b></td><td><b>Example</b></td></tr>
    <tr><td><p></td><td>Paragraph Tag</td><td><p>Paragraph one<p>paragraph two</td></tr>
    <tr><td><br></td><td>Line Break</td><td>Line one<br> line two</td></tr>
    <tr><td><b></td><td>Bold</td><td><b>Bold text</b></td></tr>
    <tr><td><pre></td><td>Preformatted Tag</td><td><pre>
    public class Sample{
    private int x = 3;
</pre><br><small>Note that while this loses syntax highlighting it will keep code formatting intact</small></td></tr>
    </table></center>
<p>And just to note for the pre and bold tags you will need closing tags at the end of the text you want to format in this manner. Otherwise it will not stop which will also be unplesant. Ending tags look like </b> and </pre></p>
<p>Hope some may find this helpful</p>

<p>There may be others but certainly these newish ones are all broken and need to be fixed. This bug is annoying from a user perspective but also they can be dangerous as well if exploited</p>

  • Embedded hotspots on animated gif

    Hi Guys,
I'm wondering if it is possible to create multiple hotspots
on an animated gif that are embedded in the gif file itself,
instead of adding additional HTML to my page.
    Thanks

"Hotspots" are an HTML construction, not something that is
    embedded in the
pixels of an image. So, no, you cannot. Furthermore, you can
    only have
multiple hotspots on the entire animation, not unique ones on
    unique frames
    of the animation.
What is it you are trying to do?
