Y coordinate of top left anchor point issue
I'm writing a Java app against the prerelease version of InDesign Server CS4.
To retrieve the coordinates top left anchor point of a page item I use the following code:
topLeftCoordinate = this.idsPageItem.resolve(
VariableTypeUtils.createEnumeration(kAnchorPointTopLeftAnchor.value),
kCoordinateSpacesSpreadCoordinates.value,
OptArg.noBoolean());
double originX = topLeftCoordinate.asList()[0].asList()[0].asDouble();
double originY = topLeftCoordinate.asList()[0].asList()[1].asDouble();
The X coordinate is returned correctly, but the Y coordinate seems to be relative to the center of the page! If I add half of the page height to originY I get the value I expect.
Is there a logical explanation for this behavior?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Chris,
The origin of the spread coordinate system(kCoordinateSpacesSpreadCoordinates)is at the center of the spread. None of the coordinate systems used by resolve() match what you see on the rulers.
If you know that the page item has not been transformed, you can use the geometricBounds of the page item to get the location in ruler coordinates. You could also use the anchor property of an individual path point.
Thanks,
Ole

How do I keep the Reference Point setting at top, left
The nine-by-nine grid in the top left corner (where the vertical and horizontal rulers meet) won't stay selected as the top left setting depending on what I select in my document. Sometimes it's the top left, sometimes it's the bottom right and sometimes it's the top middle. How can I set it so that every box I select in a document will give me the top left reference point (X-Y coordinate)?
I'm proofing a document to make sure it's set-up correctly and all the page-heading colored boxes are starting at the same X-Y coordinate, have the same width and the next box down on the page starts at the proper location. None of these boxes were created on a master page so I have to check each one. (And even if they were, they've all been released from the master to change their colors and place images.) In other words, on one page there is a colored box across the top that is 10p6 high, so the next box down (vertically) needs to start at the X-Y coordinate of 0, 10p6. But when I click on it the reference point is not always at the top left. So I click on the box, then click on the top left reference point, check the X-Y location and height of the box, then click on the next box down the page and click on the top left reference point and compare the X-Y location to the previous box's height.
I have selected the top left reference point with no documents open to set that as my default preference but I didn't create this document.

Retrieving the selected anchor points coordinates.
I have read the scripting guide,
and learned about finding coordinates this way:
var aDoc = activeDocument;
var topObject = aDoc.selection[0];
var coord = topObject.pathPoints[0].anchor
alert(coord[0])
I'm wondering how you would find the coordinates of a selected anchor point.
For example: You make a hexagon, and then click on a single anchor point with the direct select tool.
I want the script to know the coordinates of that anchor point.
I'm using javascript and CS5.
Thanks!hmm....selected path points include direction handles, so this should get us the correct coordinates
var idoc = app.activeDocument;
var ipath = idoc.pathItems[0];
var sel = ipath.selectedPathPoints;
//alert(sel.length);
for (i=0; i<sel.length; i++) {
var pp = sel[i];
if (pp.selected == PathPointSelection.ANCHORPOINT)
alert(pp.anchor);
//$.writeln(pp.selected);
//$.writeln(pp.anchor); -
How to distribute equal spacing with anchor points?
I am working in Lesson 5 of Adobe Illustrator CS5 Classroom in a Book, and am having a problem selecting the 2 anchor points to distribute equal space based on the bottom center anchor point of the violin. The note said to reference chapter 2, which I have already been through, but even after reading the Illustrator Help dialog on pg 75, I am still at a loss. Can anyone explain how to distribute this equal spacing of 2 anchors relative to one anchor point?
csnpreggers,
If anyone has any further advice or comment, I'd still love to hear from all parties.
Especially when working with a finished symmetrical shape, such as a violin, which may have been created using mirroring, in other words elaborating on a shape, possibly with something unforeseen in the first round, and especially when it is inconvenient to cut paths to work with one half, you may use the instructions in small print using invisible ink at the bottom of item 3 in lesson 5:
2 tips, using the Line Tool and Smart Guides:
To make sure the left Anchor Point has the same same distance from the bottom Anchor Point, first ShiftDrag horizontally with the Line Segment Tool from the right Anchor Point to cross the path, then select the violin path and click it with the Add Anchor Point Tool where Smart Guides say intersect.
Or to place both Anchor Points at the same time instead, first create a sufficiently long horizontal path with the Line Segment Tool below the violin path, then ShiftDrag it upwards to cross the violin path at the desired distances, then select the violin path and click it with the Add Anchor Point Tool where Smart Guides say intersect, both right and left. -
Convert Anchor Point Tool Won't Remove Handles
I have handles on a point in Illustrator CC 2014. I am trying to click on the point with the "convert anchor tool" to remove the handles, but it is not working. I can manipulate the handles with the tool and move the points, but it will not delete the handles like normal.
Brad,
There may be something you are unaware of (Anchor Point(s) on top of Anchor Point(s) or something).
If you deselect (click an empty spot or another object), then click the Anchor Point with the Direct Selection Tool, does the Anchor Point show normally with two Handles?
If it does, can you ClickDrag each Handle into the Anchor Point and convert it that way? -
So I got is iPad as a gift and the same issues I had with my iPhone 4S is also happening with my iPad. Will Apple cover the problem as it lies within there updates or something. All I know I have taken perfect care of both products and volume is distorted. Can't listen to music, I get booted off the web all the time, I can't even chat with Apple icare it won't work and no service shows on top left corner. What is wrong with Apple products? I'm thinking it's time to switch! I've had to change my iPhone twice now......first time for mic not working and then camera shutter kept sticking. Same on my iPad........ I don't want to pay to get this fixed as it's not my fault this is happening...... It's software apparently?
This really is starting to feel like a hardware issue than a software one.
Especially if hearing noises when you connecting up your iPad for charging.
Something happened to your iPad that has nothing to do with a software update.
This is why I recommend that
I can't help you any farther.
It sounds as if you really need to take this iPad in for a repair.
Since you are reluctant to do this, there is nothing more I can suggest to you.
Good Luck on whatever you decide to do. -
I've edited my NEF photos in lightroom and have tried to export to a formatted CD. When I try, I have several issues. I either see in the top left corner that the files are ready to go to CD but there is no further instruction or I get the pop up message that the files are offline or missing??
Just for background, in what format are you exporting your images? Also, are you able to export them to your hard drive in your chosen format? I haven't tried exporting directly to CD, but if you're able to export to hard drive and copy to CD, that may be one solution.

Movieclip registration point defaulting to top left of nested movieclip when placed on stage
basicaly there is a movieclip holding multiple movieclips with animations that pass from right to left making the overall registration point of the parent MC to somewhere right of the stage
in the parent movieclip there is a background that is the exact size and placement of the stage and the top left of that background is where the parents registration point is being loaded at..I
I'm not sure if this has any relivance but i defined the movieclip as a variable and placed that variable at the specified coords..
addChild(PLevel);
PLevel.x = w/2;
PLevel.y = h;
where w is the max width of screen and h is the min height
my registration for that moveclip would be the bottom of the movieclip centered on the stage backgroundI can't find anything of a question or problem in your posting. You mention three different locations for registration points, but I am unable to determine anything from your doing so.

I want to get the coordinates of anchor points in every path layer. Can illustrator itself offer me a list of corrdinates X/Y?
I need the corrdinates for some science research, plz help me.Thanks for your method, but it seems not what I want. I did as you said and found all points were separated.
I use anchor points to mark three or four points for every fracture in the picture. So what I want is the text formatted like this:
x11,y11,x12,y12,x13,y13 \n x21,y21,x22,y22,x31,y32 \n x31,y31,x32,y32,x33,y33……
I am reading the manual to learn to edit the script, but it seems not that easy as I am not familiar with it. -
My mouse pointer jumps to the top left corner every second
Hi
I recently bought a Mac Mini, hoping to get into iOS development, everything was fine, but recently the mouse pointer has started jumping to the top left corner of the screen, this happens every time I try to move it, within 1 second of my moving the mouse, it's jumped back.
It's made the system unusable.
I've searched online and found other people saying that their mouse pointers jump every two or three minutes, but mine jumps within a second of me moving it. I have two Dell monitors attched via apple HDMI to DVI and Displayport to DVI adaptors. I've tried different mice, it's still the same.
The problem is, even if there's a fix, I'm not sure that I could apply it, as I can't use the mouse at all.
Can any one help?Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
How to get top left stage corner coordinates after resize?
hi,
is there maybe a way to get top left stage corner coordinates
after resize?
or maybe get original stage size before resize? so i can
calculate it.
i know that you can collect the width and height before it is
resized but is it possible after?

Simple script that will export the coordinates (layer bounds - top left x,y)
Hi,
I'm looking for a simple script that will export the coordinates (layer bounds - top left x,y) of the layers to an seperate xml/txt file.Your screen capture looks like it's from Photoshop.
In InDesign sub layers are page items, the containing layer has no dimension. So you could get all the page item's x, y, width, height. But you might have to consider groups and then the layering could be very complex. The stacking order could also get complex. Page items have an index, but it's relative to its parent container. -
Can you automatically delete anchor points when a new image is placed on top - so that it 'replaces'
Hi all,
I know that I can delete anchor points but I was wondering if there is a shortcut to do it on a larger scale.
Can you automatically delete anchor points when a new image is placed on top - so that it 'replaces' the image, only on the parts obviously that you cover with the new one.
Thank you allHi,
I'm using CS6, and I have a tree vector image, and I am trying to put names on top, but when I do this to keep it clean with no anchor points (as my other software cant read it with all the points in it) I have to manually delete each one but it deletes the whole path and I then end up with a tree, names on top, and a big gappy circle around the names.
So really, I wanted to add the names on top, and have that delete all anchors underneath .
Does this make sense? :S -
Dv6 top left speaker lower sound issue
I purchased a HP dv6-6005et laptop 6 days ago which is running w7 x64 home premium. 3 days later, i noticed my top left speaker's sound lower than top right's about 20 percent. I formatted and installed w7 x64 pro.
I thought this might be a driver issue. I updated the driver. Nothing's changed. Uninstalled driver. I noticed without IDT Audio driver top speakers are ok. Balances are ok but bottom speakers not working and sound is not good enough.
I went to place where i purchased my laptop. I used public demo laptop. That laptop has that issue too.
I tried all drivers on the internet. Nothing's changed but now i know this is a driver issue. I couldn't find any solution. Please help me.
Thanks a lot.Seems like your settings are a bit skewed.
Click on Start
Type in "IDT Audio Control Panel"
On the Far Left locate Setup
Click on it.
Move move the circle to the left or right as needed. -
Can't select anchor points of some shapes in Photoshop CC 2014
I have a multi-layered file with a number of shape objects. When I go to the direct selection tool and try to click on an anchor point the points simply do not show up. Is there some property that I am not aware of that prevents selection?
Can you upload the psd file. The Path palette shows a very small triangle path on the right edge of the canvas up some from the bottom of the document. With the direct path tool active and the shape layer targeted even if no point is selected I would expect the see the path outline shown in the Path Palette for the shape layer to be shown in the image window also I see none. Can you see the path outline? Are you on a Mac I'm on a PC using cc2014 with todays update
