Zen Xtra batt

Anyone know where I can get a battery for my 40 GB Zen Xtra player? Looks like the only place desginated on the Creative site is Asia, and that isn't panning out.

stp,
Which region are you from? If you are from US, you can check the online store here.

i have only had my jukebox zen xtra (30 gig) mp3 player for about 5 months now, and all of a sudden its like my battery (3.6v lithium ion) is completed gone. i have tried resetting it numerous times & ways, and to no luck it seems my mp3 player never recognizes the battery is actually in the player itself. i can only power up the player when its connect to the ac power cord, i tried charging it for over 24 hours, nothing changed. i also tried the latest firmwire, and i get the error "please ensure that your batteries are inserted before you proceed. restart the program when you are ready". has anyone else had any similar problems & fixes with this type of situation? i just hate to think my answer is going to be to get an ipod. thanks for any help.

Have you tried a disk cleanup? To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Did you leave the player with a flat battery for several weeks or more? (Seems unlikely as the player is only 5 months old, but just to check)
You can try connecting the player to the mains adapter, then turn the wall switch on and off a few times to see if this "kick starts" the battery into life.
Failing this, are you under warranty?

  • File type vs. Battery Life (zen xtra 30

for a while i was getting about 0-2 hrs (estimated, never acutally timed) per charge after having the player for a few months. then i tried changing my files from wma 92kbps to mp3 320kbps, but the mp3 files took up too much space (even thought they sounded really good). now im back to wma@92, but im only getting 6 hrs out of the battery. i've even left on till it ran out, then recharged it...but the batter still depleted faster than normal. what would be the best sounding file type that uses the least amout of battery type. ohh, just to make sure...i've been reading these fourms and have gotten the impression that the zen xtra can charge via usb. if this is true, could someone help me w. that--it would be most appreciated.

The file type shouldn't really matter that much, though SSR is right that high bit rates will use more battery up than low bit rates. I hear that EAX turned on really eats up the battery. I never use it. It seems a gimick to me, but lots of other people seem to love it.
I don't think the Zen Xtra will charge throught the USB port. The manual does not mention it.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • How can I use my Zen Xtra like a flash memory

Hello, I want to know how can I use my MP3 player like a flash memory.
I have one and if I conect it with other computers I can't transfer documents and with a flash memory I conect it in all the computers with Windows XP and all of they detect the flash memory and they can transfer documents.
With my Zen Xtra I connect it and the computer detects it but I can't transfer anything because the computer doesn't have the software.
My question is.. Do I have to install the software in all the computers that I use ? or there are other forms to conects PC and MP3 Player? ( I want to transfer documents like text, image, etc)

But some MP3 players do that, why this one can't be connected with all the computers ?

  • I can't get my Zen Xtra to work on my new comput

Hello. For years now, my Creative Zen Xtra has been working perfectly on my old (and I do mean old, Windows 98 old) computer. However, I recently bought a new computer with Windows Vista, and I just can't get it to work on there. I've installed all the software on the CD I got with the player, but when I open the player, it says "Not connected". All my other USB devices are working, and when I connect my MP3 player, it switches itself on, so I don't think there's anything wrong with my USB ports or the cable, and I can only assume there's something wrong with the software. I already tried looking for a driver update in the Downloads section of this site, but couldn't find anything for Vista.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how to solve it's If so, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any security software installed, blocking these ports? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

  • Deleting more than one file at a time from Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 4

Is there a way to delete more than one file at a time from Zen Xtra? Actually, I'd like to delete most of the 800+ files and the only way I've found is to do them one at a time..! Help!

Either use finder to drag and drop those tracks onto
"Library" in iTunes' left "Source" column or from
iTunes Menu Files use "Add to Library ..." then
navigate to a folder that keep a yoru tracks and
    select that folder.
This did it! I was doing an "import" which would only let me do one song at a time. But the "add to library" and the drag and drop both worked. Thanks!!!

  • Creative MediaSource/Zen Xtra/Vista Is

    I have had?a Zen Xtra for a couple of years, I recently got a new computer which has Vista Installed. After going through the nutroll that was downloading MediaSource for Vista and updating the firmware to be Play-for-sure, etc... everything seemed to work together. Except for one issue that I cannot figure out;
When I operated on Windows XP and I linked my Player to the computer I would see all my songs listed on the screen. Now on Vista I see folders of the albums as opposed to all the tracks listed. This is making creating playlists much harder, searches slower and general management of 6400 songs more difficult than it should be.
There has to be a way to be able to see all the tracks listed without folders, I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone here cracked the code on this yet?
Thanks for any help I can get.

To get it working with Vista you need to update the firmware to the latest ( last ?) version or one that starts with a number 2.something.
    to do this you need:
    a P.C running windows XP
and on that XP PC you MUST make sure that:
you have removed/rolled back windows media player
removed/rolled back windows media player runtime
even if you dont think any parts of WMP are there, check in add/remove programmes.
before starting the firmware update make sure that the battery is fully charged and the player is conecte dot the power suply/mains charger.

  • MediaSource 5 isn't recognizing my Zen Xtra pla

    Hi,
I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra mp3 player, version .03.02. I've had it since July of 2003.
I recently bought a new computer (Dell Inspiron 520; Windows XP Home Edition). My old computer had Creative Organizer software on it. I no longer have (or more accurately, I can no longer find) any CDs that would allow me to install that software onto my new computer.
When I first plugged my mp3 player into my new computer, the computer didn't recognize the hardware. I went to the Creative support site and downloaded this driver ( JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00.EXE ). Installing that allowed the computer to recognize the player. I then tried to transfer music from my computer to the player with Windows Media Player 0 (my preference is to avoid upgrading to WMP , if possible). The computer *did* recognize the player and I was able to move music over, but when I unplugged the player to view the new files I had placed there, I wasn't able to find them on the player (I think they *are* there somewhere, but I can't seem to find where the Windows Media Player put them).
Therefore, I went back to the Creative support site and downloaded and installed the Creative MediaSource 5 software ( CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_0_38.exe ), but when I open up Creative MediaSource 5 and click on "Transfer Music," I get a pop-up box saying that there isn't any mp3 player plugged into the system, so it can't transfer anything. It gives me that box no matter how many times I unplug and re-plug in the player to my computer.
At this point, I'd prefer to transfer my music to my player via the MediaSource software, since I have a feeling it will be more user-friendly for me. However, any advice that will help me with transferring music to my player and allowing me to find it easily on the player will be most appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
If you have not already, please make sure that you have the correct plugin installed. Check the firmware version of your Zen Xtra and go back to the download page where you downloaded MediaSource 5.
If you have the PlaysForSure firmware in your player, download and install this:
Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 27.90 MB
    CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe
    Otherwise, download and install this:
Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 6.24 MB
    CMS5_NJB2_PCAPP_LB_5_00_22.exe
    Hope this hel

any help? My player has the latest firmware and also latest dri've was installed in my computer!!

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60 GB can't be found through Mediasource Organizer

I have been using the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra HDD Player since a few years and I have always been satisfied. But recently, I had a massi've computer problem, forcing me to do a complete re-install of Windows XP, without the chance to backup my old XP.
So of course I also needed to reinstall the Nomad Player. However, since I can't find the CD-Rom with the driver, I had to download (almost) everything.
At first I installed the drivers of the player and then I installed the Nomad Explorer (I still had that one on an old HDD). When I start the Nomad Explorer, the player connects and I can see the music that is stored on the player.
However, in the past I never used the Nomad Explorer, I always used Media Source Organizer. I think in the past I had Version 3 and later I updated it to Version 5. So now I went for Version instantly. I downloaded it and installed it. But here it starts to get strange. I closed the Nomad Explorer and disconnected the player, then I installed the Organizer. During the installation, I was told that the organizer can't find any supported devices, I should connect and start the player and try again. So I did. This time, the installation finished itself - but when I startet Media Organizer, it couldn't find my player.
I once read something like that you need at least Windows Media Player 0 or . Since I had 9, I installed 0, but that didn't change a thing.
So, does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong ? Or maybe I forgot to install some normal Windows stuff, that is required by Media Organizer ? For example, I haven't installed DirectX yet (but I tell you that just as an example, I don't think that it's DirectX related)

You need the Creative Nomad Jukebox? plug-in 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource5 found here.http://support.creative.com/Products...me=MP3+Players

  • Zen Xtra won't appear in Creative MediaSource Organi

I've been using my 30 GB Jukebox for a couple years w/ no real problems except that I remember there being a problem w/ a USB port & I had to change something so that the Creative MediaSource Organizer software could recognize the mp3 player. Now I've bought a 60 GB Zen Xtra (same player, x2) & am having the same problem. I've upgraded everything & hate the new interface for transfering files... most of the time the program just freezes. I'd like to be able to use the same Creative software I was using before, but it doesn't recognize the new device. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or how I can fix it, I'd rather not have to call?Customer Service?again for $3.

I'm just giving this topic a bump. I've upgraded to Creative MediaSource Organizer v 3.30.2, but it won't recognize either of my mp3 players when I plug them in. I'm able to use the Zen Xtra Media Explorer, but?most of the time it just freezes up. I'd like to be able to use the software I'm familiar w/, so if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I seem to remember having a similar problem when I first purchased my 30 GB Zen Xtra.

  • Problems w/ Zen Xtra 3

    hello everyone!!!
i'm having trouble with my Zen Xtra... i opened Creative MediaSource Organizer to transfer my mp3's to the Zen Xtra from my Music Library... and it wouldn't let me do it, there is a msg about an error, it would say, "Error: Unable to create file. Restart player and try again." my mp3's are ok, they are not corrupted or anything, it plays into my computer... i restarted the player and its still has same result...
another problem is, i have like 000+ mp3 file stored on the Zen Xtra and i dont know what happened, but i lost everything. i lost every mp3 file... the thing is, i still have my playlist but there's no music stored on it, its all gone... this problem happened before i cant transfer mp3's in the player...
i even reset the player but it still has the same problem, it didnt solved it...
hope u guys could help me.... thank you...

I have a similar problem with my Zen Xtra 40GB, however I did not lose all of my music. I did lose all but one of my playlists however the mp3 files that were on those playlists are still in my music library. I also get the same error message "Error: Unable to create file. Restart player and try again." Is there ANY other way to get around this besides cleaning off my player and losing all of my music? I recently had to clean off my hard dri've and lost 60 gigs worth of files. I don't want to lose another 20 gigs (my player is only half full) of songs. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Sorry if I didn't follow the correct procedure by asking a different question than originally posted. I wasn't sure how this works so if need be I'll start a new thread with my question.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stops working with XP following Windows Media Player 11 Beta Installat

Yesterday I was very pleased to find that my Creative Zen Xtra (model DAP-HD00) portable media player is a PlaysForSure capable device. Creative Labs, on November 9, 2005, released the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware v2.0.03. I installed this firmware (I had to install the Creative ZenJukebox Driver v.30.03 first to get Windows to recognize the device). Once the firmware was upgraded, Windows began recognizing the Zen Xtra as a MTP device and life was good. I was able to synchronize it with both Napster To Go and Windows Media Player 0.
After this, I went ahead and installed Windows Media Player Beta, which I just downloaded yesterday as well.
From a functional standpoint, WMP seems to run just fine. However, when I connected the Creative Zen Xtra (with its PlaysForSure firmware), Windows redetected the hardware. It first showed "Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra" in the tooltip, followed by "MTP Device" in the new hardware tooltip. Finally, Windows announced that there was a problem installing my new hardware and that it may not work properly.
Sure enough, when I went into Device Manager, my Zen Xtra was showing as an MTP Device with an exclamation point on it. More specifically, it specified the status of, "This device cannot start (Code 0)."
Prior to the installation of Windows Media Player, the Creative Zen Xtra showed in device manager with the following characteristics under the heading "Windows Portable Devices":
Name: NOMAD Jukebox Zen XtraDriver Version: 5.2.0.0 dated 8/30/2004Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
    Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.3802.3802 built by dnsrv(bld4act)
Windows Media Player changed this to the following (the device now shows up under "Portable Devices"):
Name: MTP DeviceDriver Version: 5.2.5326.4762 dated 2/22/2006Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
    Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.5358.4827 (WMP_.060509-2009)C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys - v6.0.5348.0(winmain(wmbla).0604-339)
The file wudfrd.sys is NOT digitally signed in this case.
As of now, my Zen Xtra is completely unusable on this system, and I need to sync it with my laptop for the time being, which still has WMP 0 installed on it.
Is this a bug with WMP beta? Is it a problem with my firmware? Since this is PlaysForSure compliant firmware, and it worked flawlessly with Napster and WMP 0 (before the MTP driver was updated), it would seem to be a WMP beta issue. I'd like to hear more official confirmation on the subject, however.
Some general details about my system are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2Verified GENUINE Microsoft operating system using Genuine Advantage ValidationIntel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, Hyper-Threaded processor2.00 GB RAM
Windows Media Player Version: .0.5358.4827Napster Version: 3.6.0.7 (US)
Any recommendations? Fixes? Some have suggested rolling back the WMP installation, but I would like to consider this option only as an absolute last resort.
    Best regards,Matt

Ok, this worked out accidentally - but happily
I first installed the driver - not the media source - but the driver for the device.
After that the windows device manager yellow sign disappeared - apparently the device driver was registered by windows.
Then I Installed Mediasource 5 - the installation went thru fine.
Does anyone have any recommended updates to install, please also advise what benefits.
    Thanks.

  • Fixing the creative zen xtra - creative firmware won't bring me dow

    Hi all,
Recently my zen xtra crashed as a result of Creative's shoddy firmware! Anyway, I'm out of warrenty, creative want to try charge me about 20 quid and I ain't having that (read my other posts you'll hear the whole story)
Well now I've decided I'm gonna try fix things myself. I've ripped my player apart to reveal the 2.5" harddri've. I've got hold of a caddie to hold this in and connected to the computer. Dri've is not recognised (as i suspected, the firmware has corrupted toc and whathaveyou). So I'm formatting the dri've now, seems to be going ok (i'm thinking if I can't get the player working again at least I can make a 40gb external mini hard dri've)
Anyway, what I need now is to compare this hard dri've to another zen xtra one thats working and well. If anyone has (for some bizarre reason) backed up their zen dri've in this way cause you let me know. I need to know the file structure that it uses (as the software hides the real structure) and also the firmware (a working copy please!) that is as how it is installed rather than by using the installation software for the more conventional way :smileytongue:
Any help with that is appreciated, and those of you who are like me and have a ?200 paperweight should consider making it an external dri've like this also. (cheap caddies on ebay for those who want to know!)
    hope this helps
    phil

if i get a friend's zen xtra dri've and put it in mine, would you reckon it would work or am i likely to bugger up that too?
if the firmware is part in hardware then i doubt there's a lot i can do, but my intention was to copy my friend's dri've to mine then put it in and see if it works...
    any ideas?
