1220 Access Points Dhcp Issue
I have two 1220 ap's plugged into an unmanaged switch. I'm able to connect to the ap but I'm unable to receive dhcp info from our server. We have a 2950 switch that feeds to one of the unmanaged switch's and the other unmanaged switch is plugged into the other switch. What am I missing in the config to allow dhcp to the client? Do I need to add and ip helper on the 2950 that feeds the unmanged switches? Thanks to all
2950--Switch--Switch

(I'm using Vxworks)
I too am having trouble with my 1240 AG and DHCP. I would try this:
Connect to the router using the web GUI.
Go into System Software and System Configuration.
Click on show tech support.
Click on Configure
Click on IP
Click on DHCP Server
Enter in the DHCP server name or IP address and click on Address.
This should spawn DHCP to the client.
Once this is completed you can go back and view the config file and see the DHCP server listed. I hope this helps!

1142 Access Point - DHCP trouble
Hi there,
I am setting up an autonomous 1142 Access Point. The intended goal is to get it accessible though 2 SSIDs:
Private: VLAN3 (our internal data VLAN)
Guest: VLAN98 (our DMZ/Segregated VLAN)
At present, our VLAN3/internal users get DHCP addresses from x2 Windows DHCP servers. Eventually, the DMZ VLAN connections will get their IP addresses from a switch in our DMZ VLAN.
At the moment, I am able to authenticate with the Access Point through the VLAN 3 SSID but never get an IP address. I have posted the switch port config below as well as the Access Point config. I'm a newbie on these devices so any help would be greatly appreciated:
**SWITCH PORT CONFIG**
interface FastEthernet0/10
description IT Office Wireless Access Point
switchport trunk native vlan 3
switchport trunk allowed vlan 3,98
switchport mode trunk
speed 100
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
spanning-tree bpduguard enable
**AP Config**
Attached to the post as quite wordyHi Danny,
You have a native vlan mismatch between the AP and the switch. The switchport has vlan 3 defined as the native, but it is not defined as native on your AP.
You will simply want to add the keyword native at the end of the following line under your .3 subinterfaces:
encapsulation dot1Q 3 native
On another note, to take full advantage of the 1140 series AP with 802.11n connections, you will need to use WPA2 with AES encryption:
encryption vlan x mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip
This will allow use of both WPAv1/TKIP and WPAv2/AES

Airport Extreme Base Station as Access Point/DHCP relay
Hi there, I am getting overly frustrated with both the hardware and its doc, so I figured I'd ask here...
Basically, I have a DSL modem that is also a router and wireless router (non-Apple, Westell) setup upstairs. What I would like to do is be able to use an AE to extend my network: the AE would be connected wirelessly to my network and provide ethernet ports for appliances in my basement... I have googled all over and only could find vague answers (either "sure you can" or "use bridge") but nothing detailed... I can't believe this cannot be done, does anyone have recommendations or detailed info?
Thanks in advanceWelcome to the discussions, vwillers!
The AirPort Extreme can "extend a wireless network", but only if that network has been created by another Apple(n) base station. You won't be able to configure it to "join" your network and have the ethernet ports active.
The Airport Express(n) has a very nice feature called ProxySTA. In brief, this allows the AirPort Express to "join" virtually any wireless network according to the article below. By checking the "enable ethernet clients" box, the ethernet port will be active. You could connect a simple switch to the ethernet port on the Express if you need more ports at the "remote" end.
Check the attached article for more info on the ProxySTA feature.

Linksys WAP200 DHCP issues (acces point)
Hello,
during installation of Linksys WAP200 we noticed the following two issues:
a) The main problem consist of that AP (wifi access point) do not process DHCP request. Any DHCP request is not received when we had to used only one SSID and AP is in VLAN1 (the same problem is registered if are allowed VLANs to AP). Additionaly were created additional SSID - all is working properly.
b) The second and more important problem if is required to make restart of AP or due to outage of electricity, again is not allowed to receive IP address from AP. When is second SSID deleted and again reconfigured is whole communication and functionality restored.
Technical specification of AP:
Model: Linksys WAP 200
Firmware: 1.0.22-ETSI
SN: MO200J500700, MO200J300921, MO200J300922, MO200J300923,MO200J300924, MO200J300925, MO200J300926, MO200J300927, MO200J300928
These enclosed network devices are used in LAN topology:
RV082-EU, Linksys 10/100 8-Port VPN Router SRW224G4P-EU,
Linksys SRW224G4P 24-port 10/100+4Port Gigabit Switch, PoE
SRW248G4P-EU, Linksys SRW248G4P 48-Port 10/100+4-Port Gigabit Switch, Po
Do you have any idea where should by problem or we have to wait on new firmware ? :(
Thanks for help and suggest.
PavolHi Pavol,
As with the SRW series switches, the default VLAN (vlan1) is untagged.
VLAN2, VLAN3 and VLAN4 will obviouslybe tagged, so the WAP200 supports trunked VLANs.
I have been using WAP200's for both bridging in some applications and just in AP mode for other applications for a number of years, in conjunction with my SRW2008P switch.
But I have seen issues, where after a software upgrade. I had to reset the AP back to factory defaults and create the configuration again.
Firstly reset the WAP200 back to factory defaults and it still fails, I would suggest you call the wonderful folks at the Small Business Support Center (SBSC) in your country via the following URL;
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/support/tsd_cisco_small_business_support_center_contacts.html
I must admit I am using the US software 1.0.22 and not the European software :D but it may just be a configuration issue you may have.
I did see software version firmware_wap200v1.0.22.2-ETSI for European countries, i am not sure if that is the software you are using.

Access Points Not Passing DHCP to Clients
I have a 50+ access point deployment, all in a single VLAN (DMZ), across a dozen buildings. We recently experienced wierdness of the following sort. Clients would request DHCP request, DHCP servers would forward requests, which would not get passed from the AP to the clients. We could verify that DHCP and all other parts of network were fine. I had to cold boot each AP to clear the condition. I could find nothing in this mix of 350s and 1200s or the spectrum that would indicate an obvious attack... Couldn't find where to start looking for any tables that were full, or any real place to look for some other reason for this. Yet after cold boot- all is well.
Any thoughts, in case it happens again?Hi Guys,
I am having a similar problem to you, however i can get authentciated via LEAP, but dont seem to get an IP adderss from the radius server.
My setup is very simple as i am at the design stage. We have a Cisco AP 1200 (2.4 and 5.0 GHZ) and we are using FUNK steel belted RADIUS server. LEAP authentication works fine and i can see the association on the AP. The wirless client (HP W400 integrated Wireless cards) shows that it has been authenticated successfully too. However no IP is being received. We have a IP Pool configured on the SBR server and the SBR server shows that it has issued an IP address.
Next step was to place a sniffer and capture the packets. The capture shows the radius requests and challenges and in the very last ACCEPT packet we can see that the SBR has issued an IP address.
I am confused as i cant see anything on AP that would block the IP address. There are also a few attributes showing as "unknown" in the sniffer trace, so im not too sure wgats going on.
Can anyone help. The IOS is 12.2 (13) JA -
Strange VLAN issue on aironet access points
I'm setting up some access points for WPA. I've ran into a strange issue. The client VLAN (VLAN that the users will be put into) is 1, and the native VLAN is 10. The RADIUS server is in VLAN 1 (but I have a test RADIUS server in VLAN 10 as well). I can connect from the access point to a RADIUS server in either VLAN, and from the RADIUS servers to the access point as well. When I point to a RADIUS server in VLAN10 authentication works fine. If I point to a RADIUS server that is located in VLAN1, and I put the wireless clients in VLAN10 it works fine. But for some reason when I have the RADIUS server and the clients in VLAN (1) and the native (BVI1) interface in VLAN 10 the authentication packets never seem to get to the RADIUS server. It is as if the authentication is being sources out of the wrong VLAN. I can?t find any docs to say that this isn?t a supported configuration.
Hi Shannon,

Significance of Native VLAN
When you use an IEEE 802.1Q trunk port, all frames are tagged except those on the VLAN configured as the "native VLAN" for the port. Frames on the native VLAN are always transmitted untagged and are normally received untagged. Therefore, when an AP is connected to the switchport, the native VLAN configured on the AP must match the native VLAN configured on the switchport.
Note: If there is a mismatch in the native VLANs, the frames are dropped.
This scenario is better explained with an example. If the native VLAN on the switchport is configured as VLAN 12 and on the AP, the native VLAN is configured as VLAN 1, then when the AP sends a frame on its native VLAN to the switch, the switch considers the frame as belonging to VLAN 12 since the frames from the native VLAN of the AP are untagged. This causes confusion in the network and results in connectivity problems. The same happens when the switchport forwards a frame from its native VLAN to the AP.

Wireless Client Authentication issues when roaming Access Points (Local)
I have a Cisco 5508 with Software version 7.4.121.0 and Field Recovery 7.6.101.1.
There are a handful of clients that when roaming between AP's with the same SSID that get an authentication issue and have to restart the wireless to get back on.
From Cisco ISE
Event
5400 Authentication failed
Failure Reason
11514 Unexpectedly received empty TLS message; treating as a rejection by the client
Resolution
Ensure that the client's supplicant does not have any known compatibility issues and that it is properly configured. Also ensure that the ISE server certificate is trusted by the client, by configuring the supplicant with the CA certificate that signed the ISE server certificate. It is strongly recommended to not disable the server certificate validation on the client!
Root cause
While trying to negotiate a TLS handshake with the client, ISE expected to receive a non-empty TLS message or TLS alert message, but instead received an empty TLS message. This could be due to an inconformity in the implementation of the protocol between ISE and the supplicant. For example, it is a known issue that the XP supplicant sends an empty TLS message instead of a non-empty TLS alert message. It might also involve the supplicant not trusting the ISE server certificate for some reason. ISE treated the unexpected message as a sign that the client rejected the tunnel establishment.
I am having a hard time figuring out what is causing this. My assumption is if there were a problem with the Controller or AP configurations then it would happen to everyone. My further assumption is if the client had a problem with their laptop (windows 7) then why does work at other times? So I have checked and the ISE certificate is trusted by client.
Is something happening that the previous access point is holding on to the mac and the return authentication traffic is going to the old AP instead of the new one or something like that which is corrupting the data?
I also had this from Splunk for the same client:
Mar 5 13:44:51 usstlz-piseps01 CISE_Failed_Attempts 0014809622 1 0 2015-03-05 13:44:51.952 +00:00 0865003824 5435 NOTICE RADIUS: NAS conducted several failed authentications of the same scenario
FailureReason="12929 NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently"
Any help on this would be appreciated. These error messages give me an idea but doesn't give me the exact answer to why the problem occurred and what needs to be done to fix it.

Hello,
I am attempting to set up three Cisco 1242AG Wireless Access Points with multiple SSID's. I used the web interface and directions online to set up the two networks I want and at least one of the networks work wirelessly.
However, I have two problems:
The first, which is the most important, is that the "management" interface, BVI1, doesn't get an ip address from our DHCP server. I set the VLAN 60 (which you'll see in the documenation below) to be the native VLAN on the device as well as on the switch that the device is connected to as well as other settings in the configeration file below. Because of this, I can only manage the device via the console port which would be a huge pain once all of the devices are mounted.
The second problem is that I am not sure how to get both wireless networks broadcasting their SSID's. I have to manually type in the SSID for the second wireless network I have which I would prefer I don't have to. Anyway I can enable broadcasting on all of the SSID's?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Christopher Koeber

endI am using a third party DHCP server which is our Windows Domain Controller. I have the ip helper-address set for the native vlan of the Access Point through a layer 3 distribution switch (a Catalyst 4506) that the current switch connects to.
I didn't see any event on the logs for the AP.
Let me know if I need to do something else.
Thanks. -
Unable to get ip address from DHCP server for Aironet 1130AG Access Point
I have a network in which DHCP server is enabled. I have read the installation guide also there it is mentioned that 1130G Access point will not have any staic ip assigned to it.So it will automatically get the ip from the DHCP server from the network. I have connected that from the network but it is unable to get the ip address from the same. The same thing i have configured in the netgear it is coming fine. I have seen the sonic wall and used the IPSU tool also from checking the ip address from Mac Address but i am not able to get the same. Please provide me some tips to check where i am wrong in configuration because the first web page also not coming because of the ip address.
narendra,
I would suggest that the AP be connected to a laptop or desktop pc that would run a local dhcp server with a small scope setup...plenty of free ones on the web(this pc would obviously not be connected to your currnet network). This way you can watch the dhcp server hand the AP it's address (this can take a few minutes). Once you have the address use it to access the GUI and give the AP a static address (I find it good pratice to give all my autonomous AP's static addresses for ease of troubleshooting)...Hope that helps. -
Kin1m- Can't pull DHCP from any Access Point on 2 different phones
I am hoping someone can help us.
I have two kin1m phones, and have recently attempted to use the WIFI connectivity. Browsing works fine via the data plan, however, I blocked the data plan (online), intending to only use WIFI on the phones but cannot get either of the two phones to work via WiFi.
Have have tried two different access points, and everything from OPEN to WEP to WPA2 and both AES and TKIP.
I get connected to the access point just fine, but the only address that is allocated is the DNS server. The IP, subnet, gateway, etc. remain blank or all zeros for about 5 minutes, then it sets a default apipa address in the 169.254.x.x class B range.
This is the same on both phones, so I have a tough time believing this is a defect. Like I said, I have tried both a Linksys WAP4400N (Firmware Version: 1.2.14) and a TrendNet TEW-430APB
Please advise, as my kids are going to DRIVE ME CRAZY over this!
Thanks,

... But that is a dhcp server, not a client. In other words, you are trying to tell your computer to provide other computers on that public network with IP addresses. Because you did not set your configuration file up to serve that subnet, the server choose to ignore it. This is fortunate, because the owner of that network might not have appreciated that
You want to run dhcpcd, which is a client. You might also try dhclient, a client that sometimes is more forgiving. -
Having Issues with E1000 as an Access Point setup - Please Help
Quick background - Using an E2000 as my main router for a DSL connection (using an ISP provided Zyxel 660HW modem with wireless disabled if that matters). I have an E1000 that I want to setup as a LAN to LAN connection to the E2000 at the far end of the house and two floors down to extend my network.
I am pretty network saavy and thought this would be a snap. But I am running into trouble and hoping someone can assist.
Here are the steps I took:
1. I ran a CAT 5 connection down to the basement where the E1000 is to be setup.
2. I hard reset the E1000 to factory defaults
3. I connected my notebook to the E1000 via a LAN port. At this stage the E1000 is NOT on the network
4. I configured the E1000 with an IP of 192.168.1.2 - my main router (E2000) is set to 192.168.1.1 and the IP ranges start at .100 so this should present no conflicts
5. I disabled DHCP
6. I disabled NAT
7. I saved settings and rebooted router
8. I removed connection to notebook and plugged in the CAT 5 run from the E2000 - LAN port 1 on both (no WAN/Internet port used)
At this stage I expected the E1000 to act as an Access Point but it is not functioning properly. The first thing I notice is that the E1000 that should now be the AP is broadcasting the router name (something like Cisco 54653) even though this is not a broadcast SSID but only the router name. That is odd, I believe.
I have tried rebooting both the E2000 and E1000 along with the modem, no luck. I have tried different IPs for the E1000 just in case but again no luck, the wireless is not extended.
Any advice or guidance? Am I doing something wrong?
Any help is appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution. It sounds like you have configured the E1000 properly, but you didn't describe how you have configured the Zyxel and E2000.
Do you have A or B ?
A. Zyxel set to full bridge mode. Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port and configure E2000 for PPPoE internet connection type (and DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled). Change MTU to manual on E2000 and enter 1492. And then connect your E1000 as you described. Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.
B. Zyxel is configured as modem/router (DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled). Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port. E2000 is configured as router (DHCP server is enabled and NAT is enabled) and local IP address is 192.168.2.1. Internet connection type on E2000 would be AutoconfigDHCP. E1000 is configured as you described except local ip address is 192.168.2.2. Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.

E6 - Internet Access point issue
OK... Here's my first portential bug identification from Nokia E6.
I use mFE for my office email. I have Home WLAN as Priority 1 and EGPRS as Priority 2 as Internet Access pointsand have the Connectivity settings option Switch to WLAN set for "Known WLANs only".
Now often I see the EGPRS is active despite I have strong WLAN signal at my home.
Grrr... my data charges will go high because of this....
Does any other Nokia E6 user face similar issue?@ Since_6110,
If so, the network packet data connection is being used by another application
So under Connectivity > Settings > Destinations you have a destination called "Internet" (the default name for the first destination), and it has your home WLAN as Priority: 1 and your network provider's packet data at Priority: 2 ? YES
And in MfE under Advance Settings, the Access point specified is "Internet" (or the same Destination mentioned above)? YES

Outdoor Access points PoE power issues
We are currently deploying 5 more 1530 Outdoor Access points to the existing 2504 wireless controller with 15 Airlap 1142n AP's.Now all the AP's are connected to the catalyst cisco 2960 switch.
a)Is the catalyst 2960 switch supply enough power for the outdoor AP's or I have to use any external power injector source? Is the 2960 370W or 720W?
"The Cisco Aironet 1530 Series can be powered over the Ethernet connection with power directly from an appropriately powered switch port or from an inline power injector."
The 1530s take:
1530I: < 30 W
1530E: < 25 W
(http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1530-series/data_sheet_c78-728356.html)
AP1140: 12.95 W
(http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1130-ag-series/datasheet_c78-502793.html)
So depending on the 2960 in question, I believe you may be able to power them up, do you have anything else hanging off the switch?
We had issues with lighting arrestors causing PoE failures in the past. Removing them cleared the issue.

Is AIR-OPT60-DHCP available on autonomous AIR-SAP2602I access point?
Hello Wireless Experts,
I was able to order AIR-OPT60-DHCP on controller based AP AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9 using CCW, but this option is not available on autonomous AIR-SAP2602I access points.
Is AIR-OPT60-DHCP available on autonomous AIR-SAP2602I access point?
Thanks.
GeorgeThat is a feature and only used in lightweight access points. The standalone autonomous access points don't use that. Just follow the configuration guide for your access point to get you started.
