1394 Inoperative, FSB Increase (BIOS)

After raising the FSB in BIOS from the default 200MHz to 210MHz, the 1394 Firewire hardware fails to function properly. When I look in the Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation symbol next to it. When I click on it, it says "This device failed to load" or somthing to that extent. When I bring the FSB speed back to it's default speed settings, it does not fix the problem, I have to uninstall the device then scan for hardware changes for it to work again. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused.

c&q used to work with it ,i tried a while back but the game i was playing would not kick it back to high gear all i could do was adjust the fsb in core center and it went from 800 to 830 as 30 pt fsb increase.(clawhammer core).
but i have since disabled it and left it on fast mode.

  • KT4 Ultra - Set fsb through bios or jumpers?

Hello all, I have a kt4 ultra and have been experiencing stability problems these past few months.  I have an athlon xp 2600+ (333mhz) and whenever I set the fsb to 166mhz in the bios and clock it up to the factory speed, my whole computer shuts down.
Initially I thought it was a power issue, but after testing it with 3 good power supplies (good strong amps), I found that it could be another problem.
It is not a heat issue either because I am running that computer open case.  Tested RAM and all seems fine (Crucial ddr).
After staring at the motherboard for a few minutes I noticed there were "fsb jumpers" pins 1-6 near the cpu.  for pins 1-2 and 3 and 4, the table etched on the board says its 166mhz fsb.  So I set it to that, and whenever I set the same fsb settings in the bios multiplied by even 15.0, after reboot it reports 933Mhz.  I was running through the windows setup @this speed fine, but during the HD format it shuts itself off.
Furthermore whenever those fsb jumpers are cleared the default 100mhz fsb kicks in clocking the processor at 1250MHz..upping the fsb to 167 and multiplying by 12.5 doesnt help either--it just shuts down.
Here are the rest of the specs of the system:
    -2 x 256MB Crucial Cas 2.5 DDR
    -Nvidia geforce fx 5200 128MB
    -40GB HD
    -Plextor 16x10x40 Burner
    -DVD-Rom
    -Bios is latest 1.4 release
I have read the FAQ regarding this board and the "wait 15min" procedure when clearing the board's CMOS.  Even after following all that, I still get the same thing.
ahhh this is driving me insane
    -C

"...I have read the FAQ regarding this board and the "wait 15min" procedure when clearing the board's CMOS. Even after following all that, I still get the same thing..." Does it mean there are no changes in Bios after clearing CMOS ? You don't need to wait if you drain all current on Mobo after disconnecting P.Su. from wall socket and taking off battery, by pressing case power button. What is memory speed ? Both memory same make ? Have you tried with only 1 memory ? What are AMPS. actual P.Su. gives to 3.3v. 5v. and 12v. rails ? BTW. If. Mobo has jumpers to set FSB you should use them to set FSB. not Bios's.

  • RAM underclocks when cpu FSB increased??? help?

This is my first time overclocking so sorry if i sound dumb lol.
Anyways, I have an MSI p6n Sli Platinum (retail bios), an E6420, and OCZ reaper 800 RAM.
    So my problem is;
Just to start out, I increased the FSB from 1066 to 1070, and when I rebooted, I noticed that my RAM speed went from 800MHz to about 786MHz.
So whenever I increase the CPU's FSB, the RAM speed decreases.
Could anyone tell me why, and how to fix it so I can finally OC?
I do have the cpu and ram thing set to 'linked'. Could this be why?
Please someone help guide me through this, I really would like some increased performance. thanks.

To Aaron:  This is the overclocking forum right?  I'm not here to "use what I have".  What kind of advice or help is that.  Totally inappropriate for this forum.  No one in here is under any illusions that a 1 Mhz increase in FSB is going to make a difference.  It is an example used to illustrate what is happening with the board.  mmmkay.   Thanks.
But he/she's complaining, it's appropriate IMO. No one likes a whiner.
If you say that you know increasing by 1FSB won't do anything, why did he/she bother doing it? Jump straight to 333FSB, set DRAM ratio to 1:1.2, CPU @ 3GHz and RAM @ 800Mhz, what's the problem with doing that?
I also said this earlier and he/she ignored it completely:
Quote from: AaronYuri on 26-July-07, 16:11:09
It has to be big steps:
    333x8=2664MHz CPU clock. 1333FSB QDR
333x1.33=442MHz (884MHz DDR), Reapers will handle this easy, then start tighenting timmings. Or set divider to 1.5:1 to get a DDR speed of 1GHz, I would recomend 5-5-5-15 timings, then tighten them down. Increase voltage only if necessary.
Make sure you have sufficient cooling...
And just to add, hijacking isn't nice either.

  • KT4V FSB increase lead to Blank scren and reset cmos still nothing

I just recently purchased a KT4V to upgrade from my old turbo 2 limited.  I really wanted to gain DDR.  I was playing around with the FSB and tried moving it up closer to 200mhz.  It worked fine at 133 and then I moved it to 166 and rebooted and now I get no monitor display at all.  I shorted jumper1 to clear my cmos and still nothing.  This is not good.  Does anyone know how I can get my computer back to life?  I am an IT admin.

sure you reset the BIOS? theses boards are quite good at not letting go.  Power supply unplugged and "power on" pushed in a couple of times with the BIOS reset jumpers engaged?  If not do a forced BIOS update.

  • MS 6382 Ver. 1 . No fsb in bios

Hello, i want to oc my cpu and got the above mainboard. My cpu is a Palo. 1800+.
The problem started when i went into the bios to look for the fsb, but there was no option for pchealth, frequencies, neither for memory timings.
I download the manual for that mobo, in the manual it shows this option in the bios, but not in reality. The only thing that i found was the swi 1 to change the fsb from 100 to 133. I thought of taking out the jumper completely so that maybe it will activate those menus in my bios.
What could i do to see those settings in my bios and be able to oc ?

    Hello,

  • Fsb increase = xp doesnt boot

i was just wondering (as i have no reason to oc its just a query) why windows xp doesnt boot when i up the fsb to say 140...
    i have a kt4, amd2000+ & 1gb of pc2100 twinmos memory

well that would be good if i was willing to search for such a cpu (those are actually rare, i can't find it in stores catalogs), and it would cost me around 70 euros if i did. i don't hink i could sell my palomino xp2000+ for that money, so wouldn't it be best for me to perform the unlocking of the palomino?
i have read that some people experienced no improvement in performance. i also don't know what can go wrong if the unlocking goes bad. will it fry my cpu? will it need periodic re-unlocking (conductive paint could be damaged)?
i would only try to do this if i knew i would have a clear advantage, and a clear conscience of what i am doing and what can go wrong....
the temptation is big, but the fear overrides it.

  • Msi P35 platinum: bios auto-raises NB & SB voltages when fsb over 316

Why does this happen when I'm overclocking FSB in bios and reaching over 316, NB voltage goes 1.250V->1.450V and SB I/O Power 1.5V->1.8V automatically. Both are in red text after this.
Of course, I can try to lower these settings back to normal but never tried.. I've just left these raised voltage settings because everything is running fine (now E2140@2816MHz,352FSB). But are these settings safe (NB 1,45V and SB I/O 1,8V) ??
I know that raising NB voltage is necessary when raising up FSB but SB I/O Power voltage?
Should I try lower these voltages and see if my computer is still stable?
    I have bios v1.6, mobo msi p35 platinum rev1.1...
    Please help me

this is probably due to overclock jumper's setting for FSB STRAP(200/266/333).
With my Neo 2 Fr (pretty similar) about the same happen to me but at 382...then I moved the jumper to the 333 setting (see manual) and no more change in voltage of NB and SB over 382.
If you do so, be careful on your setting before the change of position of the jumper as it automaticaly add 67 mhz to the FSB and so the system may not start because of too high cpu freq. Be careful also on memory multiplier (before the change set it to 1:1 or calculate the ram freq. (FSB+67 mhz and your memory multiplier)) as the system may not start because of the RAM.
However even if it not start after 2-3 reboot it start in safe mode(as after OC) and you can change the settings.
My advice:I think your cpu fsb by default is 200, if so and if you don't plan to go over 382 set the jumper to 266 (you should be ok with voltages until 382mhz of FSB.
Always remember what said over about the +67 mhz on FSB when you move the jumper!!!!

  • Having trouble overclocking past 215 FSB.

    Hello,
On my new computer I am using the MSI K8n Neo4 Platinum and today I have started to overclock.  I followed all the suggestions and I turned everything down setting the HTT multiplier of my motherboard to 3x, my CPU to 6x and I underclocked my RAM to 133 Megs.  My test started and everything was stable up to 210 using 5 FSB increases.  As soon as I overclocked to 215 and left the BIOS, my computer shut down and I had to clear the CMOS.
I have not gotten the new bios.  Do you think I should get it.  My specs of my computer are the following:
    146 Opteron @ stock speed.
    7200.9 Seagate Barricuda.
1 Gig of OCZ El platinum RAM.

  • How do I change CPU FSB Freq on 975X Platinum Pue

    Hi all!
I´m thinking about overclocking my CPU and that will be my first time ever. So I am a complete noob in this matter.
I have already read the sticky "975x Platinum Pue Overclocking Guide" (I do have that board) and will  have it for reference later.
    1. I have one question regarding changing CPU FSB frequency. I´m asked to key in a DEC number. But how  should I do it. The guide says to "Start from 266 fsb increase by 3 fsb". So do I have to put in 269 to begin with, or how else do I change the number.
    2. One other thing I want to ask of before I begin. My memory is Corsair XMS2 2x1GB 800MHz PC2-6400 CL5 in Dual channel. But in Bios it says 667MHz and voltage 1.8. Do I need to adjust memory clock ratio and the voltage before I begin overclocking?
    3. My third question is: if overclocking Core 2 Duo E6400 to about 3.2GHz could I face some stability issue in regard to my PSU of 410W? (that my PSU could influence the system stability in a negative way). My system is very stable I think and the PSU fan is very quiet.
    4. I´m using the the most recent Speedfan and it shows unusually high cpu temps, about 100c which is wrong as I´m using hardware temperature monitor which says about 35c idle and the BIOS says about the same. Which software cpu temp monitor would you recommend?

Speedfan is no good for Core2 Duo + 975xPUE, use CoreTemp
To change your FSB, simply put in a new number. The multiplier is locked on this board still I believe, so to calculate the frequency you'll get, just multiply the FSB by 9 and that should give it to you. So, yes, that means do 269, stress test, then 272, stress test, etc. BUT, the 266 they used in that guide is from an E6600, you don't have that. You want to start from whatever it is as default.
The reason you go up by 3 is because of stability issues as far as voltage is concerned. That is to say, go up by three, stress test (i like to use 2 instances of Folding@Home) and if it crashes, raise the voltage a little.
Make your fsb:memory ratio 1:1 always, and that means it will run a little slower than what it's rated at to begin with but then you can move up from there. As a beginner doing a pretty small overclock, you shouldn't worry about RAM. At 3.2GHz your RAM will be running at 712MHz, which is a little slower, but once you get more experienced that means you'll be able to tighten the timings.
    Good luck and be safe

  • K7N2 Delta-ILSR can't get IEEE 1394 working

    My Mainboard K7N2 Delta-ILSR nForce2 Ultra 400 (601-6570-030)
I can't ever remember seeing the onchip 1394 controller settings in Bios.
I do remember seeing it in windows XP before I reflashed the bios to ver 7.6 using Live Update, I have read about problems with the mainboard not likeing the FX5900 Video cards, so I thought I would update the bios to save any problems.
I then re-installed XP and thought nothing of it. Everything was running well intil I wanted to do some video capturing from my camcorder. I then realised that there where no 1394 drivers installed and no controller could be found. I read the manual and it said to set the 1394 controller in Bios to Auto. When I went to Bios there was no onchip 1394 controller shown in the intergrated peripherals or any where else in Bios.
Can someone suggest what to do next please?

    Try the followin steps
Hit the DEL key to go to the BIOS SCREEN
goto  LOAD BIOS SETUP DEFAULTS  and press ENTER
press F10 to save it to BIOS.
NOW  again go to the BIOS  and go to the INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS check out whether there is ONCHIP 1394
    All the Best !

  • Optimal Bios Settings? K7N2 Delta

I would like to Optimize my Boards settings.
    Running 2100+ chip
    400FSB Ram
When my computer boots up it says DDR something 300.
Does this mean its not running at 400FSB?  Or does 400FS really matter?
Also I have 2 sticks of Ram should I have them in Slot 1 and 2 ?
Manual said something about Slot 1/3 and Slot 2/3 for Dual 128bit mode or something.. Does it make a difference?
    Thanx!

2100 is 266fsb and with memory at 400fsb set bios to fsb/dram ratio to 1:1 this will slow memory to the same as processor for stable, or just set to 200 fsb in bios, may cause problems, duel channel then slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 3 don't matter if it not duel channel then any but best in 1 and 2.
slot 3 being green 1 and 2 purple.

  • MOVED: Cant OC more than 220MHz (FSB) on my P45-Neo2 setup

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=126276.0

    Have you used the switch?
It has an onboard  switch for higher FSB, as stated on product page:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=&prod_no=1623
I presume if thats on, raising FSB through bios, will not work well
