4k & 1080p footage in a multicam edit bug

This happened when I mixed 4k and 1080p footage in a multicam edit and on the multicam inside my editing timeline I changed the "Spatial Conform" to none so I can edit my 4k angle a bit more. When I change it back to "fit" everything works fine. Stupid bug  Is there any fix to this?

It appears to me that this is just a glitch in the display in the angle viewer, and it does not affect the output. If so, while mildly annoying, it is not a showstopper.
Anyway, try resizing the angle viewer a little and I expect this to disappear.

  • Multicam Editing Bug!!

So I have a project that is using 3 HD cameras and a Zoom Audio recorder for the master audio track, the project is about 35 mins.  All the cams and audio were synced up perfectly, however the problem is....a shot from the camera showed up again in the Canvas but the shot I want shows in the Angle Viewer at the same time.  Yes, the Canvas shows a different shot other than what is selected in the Angle Viwer.  The Angle Viewr has the correct shot but the Canvas/Timeline does not....this is the second time I seen this happen, before I had to completely start my edit over again and it has me livid!  I wonder why this is happening....anyone??  I this a known bug?? Please help I'm going crzy with this!!

strange bug. i dont know how to fix it, but a work around might be to make manual edits when you stop and go back, instead of using the multicam edit window.
can change keyboard shortcut for "Add Edit" , default is ctrl+k, but if you change it to something easier like just s for split or c for cut, then you can work faster. just have to be in the timeline window for the shortcut key to work.  after making edit point, select new clip in multicam to use. this might stop it from changing the camera angle of the previous edit.  locking the audio track or selecting the video clip sequence will keep it from adding an edit to all tracks.

  • Editing 1080p footage on MacBook Pro 15-inch Core i5 2.4GHz

    Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing a Canon EOS 550d. I would be very interested to know if my April 2010 MacBook Pro 15-inch Core i5 2.4GHz will be capable of editing 1080p footage shot at 25fps (PAL). I have edited 720p footage without any problems, but I have never had a camera capable of recording in 1080p.
    Thanks,
    Acros-Krik

Should not be a problem at all. The best path is to transcode your footage using something like MPEG Streamclip to a usable codec, i.e. ProRes422 or Apple Intermediate Codec, for Final Cut Pro or Express respectively. If using Premiere Pro CS5, you can import native files directly into it. ProRes422 LT is a great codec from FCP7 only, it keeps the transcoded footage at the same file size as the native files and holds plenty of information for color grading later.
It's highly recommended to have all footage and scratch files on an external drive and not your OS drive. Makes everything operate more smoothly.
I do video work on the exact same machine using Final Cut Pro 7. I would strongly advise maxing out the ram. 8GB of ram helped a lot. I was hitting the 4GB limit with just a few pro apps open prior to adding more.

  • Dropped frames on MultiCam editing with Canon XF305 Footage

    Hello,
I recently purchased three Canon XF305 series cameras and have been conducting a series of tests to determine the best recording format and editing workflow. First, does anyone have experience with these new Canon cameras?
Using the log and transfer utility, I've been bringing the files into FCP natively using the canon codec (which is actually mislabeled as a Sony codec). Once in, the footage looks good to edit, without requiring rendering.
However, when I setup a multiclip sequence with the three cameras, the render bar turns green and I'm getting all kinds of dropped frames on playback. Is this a computer processor issue, drive speed, or codec? The multiclip is the only time I have trouble -- once I collapse the multiclip, I can edit fine without any drop frames.
I've done tests using 5400x and 7200x drives using both firewire 800 and eSata, no changes. I believe that rules out drive speed.
Is this a processor issue? What can I do to resolve this, as our workflow involves 100+ hours of footage from 3 cameras.
    Thanks in advance

but my experience with the 305's in ProRes is that it makes it a bigger file(more than double)
Of course it will. XDCAM is a highly compressed format. ProRes is a larger file type, higher data rate. It will be larger. Did you not notice that the ProRes footage from the 5D were also about 5 times larger?
    and still needs to render.
If you worked in a ProRes timeline, then you shouldn't need to render. If you still do, than something is wrong. Create the file...make a new sequence, cut this into that sequence...FCP will make the settings match. If it does this, and you STILL need to render....you did something wrong.
when I actually converted to ProRes, it seemed like it was more taxing on the computer, took up twice the hard drive, and more than three times the time to transcode compared to native.
It is less taxing to actually edit with. GOP formats require the computer to constantly process the GOP footage to show you frames...since there are no real frames in any GOP format. Well, there are 3 frames every second, then a bunch of pictures, and the computer has to guess what is next by looking at the frames, and then the pictures, and make up the in-between. PRORES is a full frame format...no guessing, no computing. And larger files are not more taxing on the computer...they might require faster hard drives...and larger ones, but they are less taxing. Yes, longer to convert than native, but when that is done, things are easier.
But, do what you want. I just gave a suggestion.

  • MultiCam Monitor Bug - mouse clicking dont swap audio track

    "Audio Follows Video" ON
and "on play" it switch to MC1/2/3
but on pause switch only video track. And now i have video MC2 and audio MC3 for example. When use CTRL for new edit MC for video and audio are same. And all ok when switch with RMB. This bug only on MC Monitor mouse clicking.
my englih bad and i make video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrLL1MTgU00

ok in laymens terms I create a multicam sequence using four video tracks and four audio tracks. Normally the start of the sequence would have all the video audio tracks in, however I have started by editing single clips in time line 1. After a min or so I then import all the multicam footage to time lines 2,3,4. So the the actual sequence starts with clips on a single timeline as oppossed to all 4 video and sound tracks filled.
I multicam edit them in a new sequence and on final go to export but it fails. and it fails giving an "unknown error" message because the start of the multicam only has clips on one timeline.
However if I go to the synced sequence (original sequence) copy all the single edits at the beginning, then go to the multicammed sequence and paste these clip straight over the same clips in the multicamed sequence it then exports ok with no errors. I have to do this with every multicam edit I do which is a pain.
now the text above say if I repeat the same process in CS5 not CS5.5 there is no unknown error message and no need to fiddle about copying and pasting so why so in CS5.5?
I know your gonna say simple just do your multicam in CS5 but my main bought plugins and effects are for CS5.5 including native Canon MXF support and AVCHD support so I need the CS5.5 really. its bugged and needs fixing.

  • Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue

I downloaded th trial version in Premiere CC and try to edit a multicam project edit about 30 min of footage saved it and close Premiere CC after reopen each cut made on timeline start with the begining of video so like i had 3 cameras and all of them start recording on diferent time i got like black image all over and sometime when i had switched to the camer x what start recording 1st is showing the image
    ........ any help?

Seems like this thread is the same issue just in different words: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1237142?tstart=0
Sadly, I found out the hard way. I'm another lost soul that was bit by this bug. And on my first day of editing with Premiere Pro CC after using CS6 since last fall. Day one and I already have to shelve the new software til it's fixed. So sad. Makes me really wonder actually how this was never caught and solved in all the time leading up to the release given that if you make any adjustments to your multicam that rewrite any previous multicam edits, then save and reopen the project the issue pops up. Seems like a pretty huge bug to look over or miss.  If it was "known" then how can you justify releasing it? It essentially cripples this feature rendering it almost useless.
The bug occurs whenver you go back and "re-edit" or "re-write"...as in hit play and make new cuts as it plays OVER previous edits that you made on a multicam sequence. Simply start any multicam edit, make a few cuts. Stop...go back a bit and hit play and redo some of those cuts in the multicam window (which will overwrite the previous cuts you made). Now save, close and reopen...and there you have a screwed up sequence just like the above videos show.
This is very disappointing. Multicam is broken in Premiere Pro...again. Sad.
    Mark Mapes wrote:
edited: As a workaround, after saving and closing an edited multicam sequence, we recommend making subsequent edits through the Timeline rather than the Program Monitor's Mullticam mode.
The caveat here is you must NEVER re-do ANY of your previous edits before you EVER save and close. So if you stop a multicam midway (even on your first time throught it) and decide you want to re-do the previous edits, DO NOT DO IT using the program monitor's multicam window. You now have to use the rolling edit tool to adjust your previous cuts. If you go back, hit play and write over any previous edits the way you're "supposed to" using the multicam window then you're screwed upon reopening your project. This is gonna be fun to see how long it takes for Adobe to fix their broken editing program.

  • Multicam Editing: Not usable, choppy preview

    Hello,
I'm using Premiere CC and got in trouble when using multicam-editing. Even with only 3 Tracks in my multicam sequence, the preview in the program monitor is nearly useless. It's slow, choppy, stopping, jumping....
At first, i thought it was caused by my pc. So i bought a new computer, a Dell Precision Workstation T3610 with 32GB RAM, K4000 GPU, Intel Xeon Processor, SSD and SATA Drive. I'm not a pro in editing, but i think, that this configuration should be strong enough to show at least 3 tracks.
First i tried 9 tracks and if this wouldn't work, it would be ok for me....:-)
    ....but only 3, 3 TRacks with 1920x1080 // 24fps ?? Should working, or?
Maybe with this system more than 4 cams are possible.
I'm sure this MUST work, because two years ago, with an older version of Premiere and a slower PC, i edited 6 Tracks and it worked. It must be a problem caused by false settings or something else.
The system runs on the SSD Disk, also Premiere.
My Videofiles are located on an internal SATA Drive // 7200. In project setting i stored Previewfiles on an external USB 3.0 drive.
    1. So...often i read that every videofile in my project should be on another harddrive...but ...hmmm...now i have tree harddisks...isn't that enough?
Every angle = a new hdd?
    2. Project Setting -> Video / Audio Recording, Video / Audio Preview?
    3. I found out something which is maybe interesting:
3 or more angles are working perfect if im using the "Source Monitor". When i do the same in the "Program Monitor" Premiere is going down, the Preview is chopy and stopping.
So my simple question: In both windows, source and program monitor, the feature is the same: 3 video angles. Why are the playing so different????
    Maybe it's a bug?
I would work in this way...no problem for me...source or programm....what the matter? But in the source monitor i don't have the cutting feature....so i HAVE to use the programm monitor.
    What should i do????I
'm getting more and more desperate....   :-)
Excuse my english, i hope i could explain the problem good enough, so that you understand and maybe help me.
    Thank you very much
    Kiki

I have the exact same problem. I used to be able to edit multicam sequences, HD footage, 2-3 cameras at about only 17 mbps or so, with ease. NOw the PC chokes on it. It plays for several seconds, then stops for about ten seconds. I hear my fan spinning faster. It happens if I have the multicam monitor on, but lately it seems to happen for single camera editing as well.
I'm going to check my nVidia drivers, but I think they're all up to date. I'll check for dust in my PC. Not sure what else to try. Bypassing my USB3 hub? Copy project to a different (new) USB3 hard drive?

  • Premiere Pro 7.1 serious Multicam Editing problems

Hello, I am posting here because the bug report I filed one week ago to Adobe didn't give a result -no response at all from the bug department.
I have two serious Multicam Editing Problems.
PC Configuration: Core i7950, Asus P6TD Deluxe, 12GB DDR3 1600MHZ, Quadro K4000, SSD for the system, Seagate Constellation 7200rpm for video editing.
    1. When multicam mode is on at the program monitor, I press play and the program doesn't respond at all. The timeline plays till the end and the program just doesn't let you do anything but wait until playback of the whole timeline is over. Then the program works again (no "not responding" message in Windows).
    2. Sometimes the waveform doesn't even appear at the multicam audio clip. I read in other forums that this problem is found specifically at Premiere Pro version 7.1 (October release).
I would be grateful with your help.
    Thank you,
    Stavros Symeonidis

The media is always a combination of HD .MOV (dSLR footage and .MTS (from my Sony Vg-30). However, I also tested it with .mpeg files created by "match sequence settings". GPU acceleration is always on, as I use nVidia Quadro K4000 with the latest drivers (331.82).
I always create the multicam sequences manually and the problem occurs with any amount of camera angles.
The problem was not solved by reinstaling Windows (7 and 8). In general, I have no other issue with my PC system, except from this specific one.
It doesn't appear always, however it will definitely happen if you press twice or three times the letter L, to fast forward the preview of your Multicam Sequence.
I remind you that this only happens when multicam monitor is toggled at the program monitor.
Did all these help at all to even reproduce this situation?
    Thank you,
    Stavros Symeonidis

  • Multicam Edit Really Slow

I am editing DV PAL and have just noticed that there is bug which is delaying my keyboard commands to switch to different cameras in the multicamera window.
Firstly after lining up my two cameras, I exported the audio alone to a wav format so I could mix it from both cameras right. Then imported it back into my project and overlayed the audio in track one of the layered sequence. I muted the audio from both cameras in track 2 and 3. Created another sequence and dragged my layered sequence for multicam edit. Apparently when I start playing with the yellow borders around camera 1, it plays fine but when I change to camera 2 it is just instant and the border now changes to red. If I press 1 for camera 1 it responds after 2 - 3 seconds and carries on like that. At times it appears as if its no longer playing in real time. All the colour correction in the layered sequence have been disabled.  I have stopped the editing because I would like to sync some of the sections with music beats in the scene to make it more interesting.
Am I missing something, here or its my sytem or the footage that is just too slow for the editing process? Other than that I might have to push on like that and review the edit once the multicam window is closed. This method will not produce the results I am after. I have done it before and it use to work only slowing down when its coming to the end of at least 50 minutes multicam sequence and this one is just 40 minutes.
All the video files are located on RAID 1.
My system configuration is as follows
    APP CS4
    HP XW6600
    Quad Xeon 5420 2.5Ghz
    Vista Business 64bit
    Nvidia Quadro FX4600 GPU
    8GB RAM
    RAID 1 esata
    250 GB C drive HDD
    750 GB D drive
    22" HD monitor.
I have attached a pdf which showed my system perfomance at the time of the multicam edit.

One big bottleneck for the system is the way PPro deals with the audio. For a test, try disabling all the audio.  you should see a big performance increase.  The trick now is to keep PPro from working too hard on the sound.
Try this - Instead of placing your mixed audio track on track 1 in the source timeline, place it in track 2 of the timeline you actually use for the multicamera editing.  Then delete anything in track 1 in this timeline.  You can link the video and track 2, but pay attention when you remove material that you are cutting audio 2 as well, to keep everything in sync.
It may still not be perfect, but it should help.  You can also disable any color-correction on the tracks until you are finished cutting, as this is a system drag in multicam.
Multicam is overall a bit of a mess in CS4.  The delay you see is no fun.  You will notice, however, that the actual cut will be at the right moment.

  • How to extend clips after multicam editing.

I recently learned how to use multicam editing and I think it is such a fantastic tool. One of the things that I struggled with, however, is the ability to extend/shorten one of the clips because the footage was too shaky during the transition to another clip.
For example: Clip A is playing and recording on the timeline. But Clip A becomes shaky so I switch to Clip B. After everything is done, and I play it back, I see that shaky footage towards the end of Clip A.
How do I extend Clip B so that it extends over Clip A to get rid of the shaky footage?

The "Roll" tool. Click between 2 clips and roll the edit left or right.

  • Can you apply fx to individual clips after a multicamera edit? CS6

I have footage from a 5 camera shoot of a concert.  What I want to do is perform a multicamera edit to choose what angles I want to use.  After the edit, I would need to go back and apply warp stabilizer to any sections that need it.  One of the cameras has a telephoto zoom and another is on a dolly track; there are certain points where these angles need warp stabilizer, and other times where they do not need warp stabilizer.  I do not want to have to apply warp stabilizer to 2 and a half hours of footage from two cameras when much of that footage does not need stabilized.
Is there a way to first perform the multicamera edit, then go back and apply fx such as warp stabilizer, color correction, etc, to individual clips that need it?

Thanks!  I didn't want to go through the whole process and find out I had to do it all over again.
Off to give it a try.

  • 1080p footage exporting with bad resolution

I have 1080p footage that i imported into final cut pro, i am done editing but when i export it, it has very bad quality and it is a lot smaller in the screen, my guess is that i imported the footage with the wrong settings. Would you know if I can change the settings in my current project? I would really hate to start everything from scratch. Thanks!

Try this, copy a clip and paste it into a new sequence. You sould get a warning asking if you want to change the sequence to match the clip, Say yes. If you don't get that warning, stop an make sure the sequence is actually set to match the clip.
when you paste it in, the clip should look small in the Canvas. Select the clip and right-click on it to see the Remove Attributes options and remove scale and distortion. The clip shoudl be normal now.
Delete the clip, go back to your problem sequence, select all, copy. Go to the new empty sequences, paste. Select all, remove attributes.

  • Multicam Editing reloaded

    Hi!
I do understand and have used grouping multiple clips into a multiclip to use the multiclip editing feature of FCP or in my first life Avid.
You sync up a bunch of camera angle by timecode or inpoints. If all the cameras rolled all the way trough the event and the clip from each cameratape is roughly the same lenght its a breeze and fun to edit a concert or live event. So far so good.
A few weeks back someone dumped a heap of tapes onto my desk. Live footage from five 1,5h gigs with up to 12 cameras. My obvious choice was using multiclips until I found out how fragmented all the cameraclips were. Apart from having to change tapes in the middle of the gig, the cameramen switched on and off all the time, so syncing with multiclip is not an option.
I spent two days hand-syncing all the camera-angles and all the little snippets of switching cameras to the soundtrack and now I have a sequence with 12 videotracks (1 per camera-angle) on top of each other, all synched to the audio with blacks, where the respective cameras were not running.
Now here comes my question: Is there a way to turn this sequence into a multiclip for using the built in multiclip feature of FCP? Hand-editing between 12 cameras for five 1,5 hour gigs of norwegian death metal with 3 seconds long cuts will be a nightmare without multicam editing.
Exporting all the camera-tracks and reimporting and multiclipping is not an option, because I don't have enough discspace and loose the ability to batch-capture.
    thanx for any help
    Florian

I will add that a 12 camera gig isn't much different from a 3 camera gig. You can look back a few weeks and see four or more similar threads involving broken streams from many cameras. There are at least two ways to fix that, nest sequences or build self-contained movies that have slugs between the camera footage to replace the stops and restarts.
did you mention the cutting pace? MTV-style 60 cuts a second or more lyrical? I'd start with figuring out who is the best photographer in the lot, assume you're using his/her stuff for most of the prime coverage.

  • Multicam editing multiple chroma key background

    hi,
I'm shooting and editing interviews with 3 cameras with a Chroma Key green screen.
Cam 1 - Wide angle shot, showing both the interviewer and the guest.
    Cam 2 - The interviewer
    Cam 3 - The guest
Now I need to do a multicam sync based on audio.
Then I have applied keyer effect to each and gets perfect chroma keying for each camera and had no problem editing using Angle Viewer.
Now my problem is ALL the backgrounds in Cam 1,2,3 are the same. It looks kind of weird.
How do I sync different background to each of the Camera with Chroma keyer and Multicam editing?
Is there a way to link a different background to each camera?

  • Multicam editing with multi-track audio?

Does anyone know how to do multicam editing with multi-track audio?  Apparently, the multicam editor can only see Audio Track #1 in the Source Sequence.  I tried mixing my original audio tracks #1, #2, and #3 (submixes) to the master audio track in the Source Sequence and if I listen to the new Multicam Sequence (the nested Source Sequence) all 3 original audio tracks are there (combined), but when I go to do the multicam edit in the multicam monitor window, I"m back to just Audio Track #1 of the Source Sequence and audio tracks #2 and #3 are missing ???  Thanks for your help!

I have run the gambit of different techniques. The one that is most efficient is listed in Colin Brougham's response number 9
There's a far easier way to do this: after you sync your angles, hold down Alt/Opt and select or lasso just the video portions of the clips, and nest those. The audio stays put, but the video moves into the nest, and you can then enable Multicam on the nested sequence.
One of the best things about this is that it circumvents Premiere Pro's totally BS "Render Required Files" nonsense.
I must admit the ALT lasso tip was one of the best features I have seen. Like a revelation when I discovered it some months ago while watching a tutorial about something not related. As far as the "Rendering required files" That was kicking my but for a while doing multicam editing. If you do edit both audio and video in multicam you might find the "Rendering required files" issue. Basically the problem stems from having a lot of cuts to process at the same time both audio and video. 1080P is a huge amount of data when you multiply it by four cameras plus multiple audio cuts and effects ,(audio gain, Deessing etc.) So Pre-rendering the audio by clicking in the main sync timeline and then at the top Click Sequence/Render Audio. This takes care of the issue when you are cutting multiple tracks at once. It is a good practice to work from a main sync sequence and then copy that to a new sequence  preserving the main sequence as unchanged. I found the solution is to "render audio" only in the master sync sequence this will then pass through to all subsequent copies that are made "downstream" allowing you to easily clean up anything. If you make a mistake you can always start from the main sync sequence and not lose too much time. Takes a little bit of time to render but once that is done you can cut all tracks video and audio like butter. I have been doing a lot of 1080p multicam editing over this past year and had quite learning curve. Most of the work I do is multicam editing by choice it is much faster for me to edit this way because I am used to working in live events where we need to look at all shots at the same time make a "best choice" and keep rolling. Have fun with it!
