A serious glitch

Hello, I have a big problem. I can't install anything via the Lubuntu Software Center or the terminal. This shows up with the terminal AND when I try to install via the software center. Can anybody help me? I didn't find any help via google or youtube, so this is the only place I can turn to. Thanks in advance, I am using Lubuntu 14.04 (this is an Estonian variant of Lubuntu, but it's only a translation so this is essentially Lubuntu 14.04)

Serious glitching/crashes, unresponsive UI, since 10.10.1 upgrade

Has anyone else had this problem?
My MacBook Pro (Mid-2010 17" i7 model) was doing weird things on 10.10, so I updated to 10.10.1 (the updater would hang at 40% for ages, so I was forced to download the full installer), and since then, the Mac would randomly glitch out and crash with this kind of pattern on screen, causing the UI to become unresponsive aside from the mouse cursor.
Luckily I managed to keep it stable enough to clone the entire system partition to an external (though Carbon Copy Cloner reported at least one read error, on a disk file used by VirtualBox), which I'm currently booting from to do tests and attempt fixes, but whenever I try to boot from the 10.10.1 Recovery Partition it'll crash like this before I even get a chance to verify/repair/reformat the main partition. Occasionally it'll crash like this if I just boot from the main partition normally, and interestingly, I created a bootable Yosemite USB key using a brand-new 16GB USB key and it crashed like this as well. The only drive that hasn't crashed so far like this is the clone on the external partition.
At the moment I'm almost forced to downgrade back to Mavericks (currently preparing a bootable USB key), which was far more stable, but before I resort to that, does anyone know what this could be, and if there's an easy fix that doesn't involve nuking the whole drive from orbit?

You'll need to either trash or update your Saft plugin. It is located in 'HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/'. SIMBL might need updating as well.

Premiere CS 5 render glitch

Hey guys! Im having serious render issues with Premiere CS5. I always
use to render the work area before the export of a session. But this
time there is a serious glitch during the rendering: The progression
bar takes an insane amount of time. Even though the Sequence is just 2
minutes long. For example: It takes 30-40 minutes to get from 90% to
95%!! The percentage number just goes back and forth. I shot a 20

Not familiar with an issue where the render doesn't work and export does (I've always had export fail, too), but when I've had those issues with rendering/exporting, it's always been one of two problems: a) I've got a "black hole" in my video where there's a couple frames without any video in one of the tracks, or b) I've got a still image that's too big for Premiere to process.
Honestly, though, unless you've checked the box for the export to "Use Render Files" in it's encoding, there's no need for you to render before you encode. I never do, and I have beautiful results. The only time I ever render is if I need to have a smooth playback of a complex timeline involving several layers of RED material and I need to have smooth playback at 100% for client approval before the encode. But even then, I never let the encoder use those render preivew files...
My understanding is that it's easy for those files to get corrupted, so you can end up with unsatisfactory results in your export by using them.

Font Selection Glitch

Anyone experienceing a serious glitch in the font selection tool?
I've got a lot of fonts to scroll through (probably over 200) and halfway down the list (as I'm scrolling) the fonts suddenly dissapear. The menu panel becomes unresponsive and I can't switch to a new font.
Currently I CAN NOT work with ANY TEXT GRAPHICS because of this glitch.
Please help.

Thanks for the reply Tom. I went in to font book and checked for any corrupted fonts. Font book found a few fonts that threw out a 'caution'. I then deleted them.
I installed the most recent release of Final Cut, restarted, then created a new title graphic and have found the issue still exists.
Any other possible fixes?

Glitch: Turkish keyboard support

Hello, everyone. There's a glitch in the Turkish keyboard support. I enabled the Turkish language in Settings. All of the Turkish letters work except for the "i" with and without the dot. By holding down "i," I can get both lower-case versions (although the menu shows you opposite from what you get: i gets you ı and ı gets you i). That's fine; I can work around that. However, the uppercase i does NOT give the "i" with the dot. It is not full keyboard support if a letter from the alphabet is missing!
Does anyone know when this serious glitch will be corrected? (It'd also be nice if they fixed the switched lowercase i options, too.)

Nevermind--I figured it out. Although a number of foreign characters appear when you hold down a letter key, it's not a complete list of options. You need to click on the world icon to the left of the spacebar to change the keyboard during that session. You'll see the spacebar briefly flash with the name of the language you're changing it to.

Photoshop/Premiere Elements 10 installed but won't run past Welcome screen

I bought and downloaded Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 for Windows 7 - 64 bit on Dec.31/11. There were no error messages in the download, although the Akamai downloader screen didn't seem to show 100% before proceeding to the next step. Everything appeared to install correctly (it's a long process!).
At first, clicking on the desktop icons or the Start Menu list would bring up the Welcome splash screen, where the broad options (Organize, Edit, New Project) were shown. However, clicking on these options had no effect at all. Eventually even the Welcome screen wouldn't appear. I checked the Windows task manager and no applications were running.
I checked the shortcut properties and noticed that there was a separate executable in the target directory (eg. existing link was to "Adobe Premiere Elements 10.exe", but there was also a file called "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe"), which did run...however, I couldn't launch the Organizer from that program, and the "Home" link to the Welcome screen didn't function either.
With thousands of these programs being downloaded, I'm surprised that this serious glitch hasn't surfaced before. Any ideas?

There are three different programs -- Photoshop Elements (PSE) which is for editing bitmaps, Premiere Elements which is for video editing, and the PSE Organizer which is for cataloging your media.
I don't like the sound of that Akamai downloader not registering 100%.
Uninstall all the Adobe products, reboot, and download the installation package again. Check the Properties on that downloaded file and "Unblock" it if Windows has flagged it as "possibley harmful and coming from another computer" before starting the installation.

Why doesn't Adobe recognize my password on my iPad?

     Unfortunately my iPad2 went for a swim the other day and drowned----serious user error. Fortunately the user (me) had backed up the iPad on a regular basis so all data, aps and setting were recovered. The only serious glitch occured when I tried to open my books downloaded from the library using OverDrive. ADOBE popped up and asked me to enter my ID and Password. When I did, Adobe did not recognize me, declared all of my books as "Invalid Titles" and directed my to 'verify your ADOBE ID and try again.' I tapped the OK but then nothing else happened.
     Where do I go to verify? I checked in settings but couldn't find anything that looked helpful.
     Please help.....my check out itme for book 5 of Dance of Dragons expired before I could finish. . . .sooo sad. I read lots of books from the library this way and right now I am completely locked out.

I'm wondering if you did the Overdrive update that was just released before your iPad got wet? I think there may have been issues with the update and Adobe Authorization as I had the same problem. But I was getting an Adobe Authorization Error 256 message every time I tried to authorize and it was not working for 3 days. I did delete Overdrive from my iPad ( not recommended unless you have to) then reinstalled, then I synced my iPad to my computer. Still couldn't get it to authorize.
This is what I did and was able to get it working...
In settings at the top it should say Adobe Authorization, click authorize it should ask for your ID and password click authorize may take a minute, if that doesn't work I did the following.
In settings I turned off Auto play, Cellular download, automatic downloads and auto check messages. I then tapped clear deleted titles even though there weren't any, then I tapped check for messages.clicked ok when it said there were none. Then clicked Authorize, tried two times with everything off then when it didn't work I turned on all the settings I had turned off ,did the Authorization again and it worked. I was able to download the books from the library directly from my iPad.
I hope this helps, I know how frustrated I was when I couldn't get it to work!

Monitor hardware problem

I've got a DV2721nr, and the monitor seems a little loose for the past six months or so, and in the past week its starting to glitch. Today it started SERIOUSLY glitching whenever I turn it on, during the login screen (so far it only does this during the login screen) it looks like its skipping, bouncing around a million times, then looks like the color is whiting out.
anyone else ever encounter this problem? I think tis a hardware issue and not software cause if I apply pressure to the screen, it affects the glitching and sometimes (if I'm really lucky) fix it completely so I can login.I dont know what is wrong with it, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

There is only one combination of Red, Green, Blue, HSync, and VSync that will run a high quality monitor.
When you change the switches on your adapter, most of what you are doing is changing the wiring of pins 4, 7, and 10. These pins, and their connections with wires and diodes, are read by the Mac at startup to tell what family of genuine Apple displays is attached. (The code is like a promise that a certain display is being used.)
The Mac uses this information, read at startup, to decide what resolutions and refresh rate are valid for the display you said is attached. No others are provided by your Mac, because they might damage your display.
You have been focusing on the display as the likely source of the problem. I doubt that the display is the problem. The display is a slave. It takes the rows of dots given by the computer and attempts to paint them on the screen, and adjusts the frequency to match what the computer is sending if it can, and otherwise goes blank.
If you take that same "adapter" and cable, and connect it to the Apple display, I expect you will get similar good results.

MobileMe Gallery not syncing

I have been trying for the last couple of days to upload a couple of new MobilMe Galleries to my account. The first 4 galleries worked fine, then a few days later I cannot get anything to publish. Aperture appears to be making progress as the "clock" progress indicator and the "Show Activity" screen show progress from 0% to 100%. Then the clock turns into spinning arrows and the Show Activity screen says it is uploading optimized images. This goes on for awhile and then I get a message that "the sync failed, could not contact the publish.me.com server." During my most recent attempt, this occurred after 50 of 75 images had been uploaded according to the Show Activity screen. I logged into my account and it shows I have used 140MB of 20GB of storage, so I appear to have plenty of room.
Any ideas what could be going wrong?

Likely it's not you. Many others, including myself, have experienced odd behaviour, intermittent and often incorrect syncing, lost data, etc.
Apple has just issued yet another extension of the months of service for a total of 90 days added on. They're buying time to fix serious glitches.
Your activity appears to demonstrate an inability to get accurate syncing from Apple's servers. You may need to be patient and keep trying as MobileMe (slowly) gets the fixes it needs.

Can't get Facebook App to work on Bold 9700

I have used the Facebook app on my Bold 9700 the past couple of years. Recently, after an upgrade of the Facebook app, I can no longer get Facebook to work on my phone. I have installed and uninstalled the app numerous times. I have done many hard boots by pulling my battery. Nothing I try seems to work.
When I go to options>applications>add ons it shows that the Facebook app is downloaded onto my phone, but the Facebook application has disappeared from my Applications folder. If I uninstall Facebook, the Facebook app icon re-appears into the Applications folder. When I install the app again, it disappears from the Applications folder once again.
If I go to Blackberry World>My World.....Facebook shows as being uninstalled. If I click on just about anything in My World.....my phone crashes and has to reboot.
Some serious glitch going on. Is this my phone only or is anyone else having troubles with Facebook and My World after recent upgrades? Facebook is about the only app I use frequently and I would hate to not be able to use it ever again on my phone.

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

Time Machine Deleting old backups after full restore

So I'm wondering if anyone else came up with this issue:
My computer crashed and so I restored my MacBook from Time machine. I've never done this before, but figured it would put everything back to how it was.
It did on my hard drive, but my Time machine external drive's backups all got wiped! I had about 1.5 years of backups and they are all gone!
I realize that hopefully the backup that I restored to should have everything I need, but I never thought to backup my backup drive before using it to restore.
Seems like a really dumb glitch in the software.

It's a different Mac. Time Machine backs up each Mac (and each drive) separately (all other full system backup apps I've ever seen do, too); if it didn't, those who back up 2 or more to the same place would have a complete and unreliable mess.
I'd agree that the "Would you like to reuse the backup" prompt you saw on the first backup of the new Mac could be worded better, but it is explained in #B5 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

Why does my Finder freeze and crash?

My Finder is stressing me out!
I was expereincing a very stressful situation with my Mac yesterday when it suddenly froze and wouldnt respond. When i restarted it it went to a blank white screen with no other progress. I reinstalled Mac OS X Lion, and the solution worked. My MacBookPro came back to life, and I didnt slit my wrists. However, there was one serious glitch that I havent been able to resolve since.
It's my Finder. I can view all the different folders on the left hand side except my Movies folder. When I click on it to see the files contained within, it freezes goes through the little rainbow ball for a while, then crashes. HELP!!!!!!

There are not too many ways to fix an iPad. Try these. Could try to hock up to iTunes and read the logs.
Re-boot ipad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears, then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. page 128 iPad user manual.
force power down if the above give you trouble.
Hold down both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button. Ten seconds or more. Hold until the Apple logo appears.

I accidently deleted quicktime, and now my iTunes 7 won't open

i was doing trying to do disc defragment
on my computer like i do every month but it said
i didn't have 15% free disc space on C:
so i went to control panel -> add/remove program
and kinda deleted my quicktime thinking it was
java (it said last time used was 6 months ago,
even though it was being used everytime i opened itunes).
so i deleted my quicktime, tried to open iTunes.
a box appears saying i need to redownload iTunes.
so i do that, and ever since then when i try to open
my itunes, an error box pops up and says that it needs to
close down (before it even gets a chance to open up).
i'm just really confused because quicktime already comes
with itunes 7, so i think there's some serious glitch
on my computer.
any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

This is an issue alot are facing rightnow because the quicktime bundled with itunes is more "Up to date" for now than the stand alone is. Even when its removed some of its more updated registery keys are left behind.

Does anyone elses phone make calls by itself

my phone calls people on its own and has run up my wireless bill to over a thousand dollars. people have called me and told me my phone calls them up to 3 times a day.has this happened to anyone else?

My iPhone has been doing this for a while, but today was the first time I actually "caught" it dialing out on its own. My wife was sitting next to me in the car and her phone rings with my iPhone's caller id number. My phone was in its leather carrying case and I had not used it at all today. When I pulled my iPhone out of its case the screen was lit up and you could tell it was dialing out to my wife's phone. The funny thing was the "slide to unlock" was still in the locked position. We then watched as the phone tried to dial our home number a couple of times while we were going in and out of a bad cell area. My iPhone has already called someone I knew and left a recorded phone message of me talking to other people on their voicemail. At first I thought I must be touching the screen or doing something else wrong, but after today watching the phone dial out several times to different numbers without me touching the screen at all, I know that Apple has a serious glitch in their software.

Logo graphics not functional after installing LR5 Update today.

My logo function is not working for any of my graphics, only Logos using the normal text function is working. Needed to post to my Blog today and this is a serious glitch! Anyone having this problem also?

Paul, thanks for your suggestions. Regrettably, none of these procedures helped my problem. Interestingly I just installed the same update on my 3 year old iMac and that same screen came on and remained for an unusual amount of time. It took an excessive amount of time to finally come back with running apps in place. A recent update on my MacBook Air went on briskly. I'm not sure what any of that means but there it is. By the way - I let the old iMac run with that startup screen for over an hour thinking it may just be old and needs more time. Being older myself, I felt it couldn't hurt.
Thanks. I am not sure what the Genius Bar can do but it seems that is my next move unless someone comes up with a magic bullet out here.
