  • Access local shared folder through Sharepoint 2013

Before we installed Sharepoint 2013 everyone within the company was sharing files and folders through a shared drive that is mapped to all the workstations. This shared folder on the server is very large, roughly 250gb in size.
I created a Sharepoint site called Document center using a Sharepoint template. Is there an easy way to either upload all those files and directories int sharepoint?
Or even easier, create a link on the sharepoint site that can connect to this shared drive so users can access these files.

You can use a data migration tool from a 3rd party, such as Metalogix, Metavis, AvePoint, or ShareGate to migrate file share content into SharePoint with the metadata (created by, last modified, etc.) intact. You can also use WebDAV (\\sharepointsite\) and
copy them in, but the metadata will be lost.
As far as integrating the file share into SharePoint, take a look at AvePoint's File Share Integration tool (http://www.avepoint.com/assets/pdf/doc6/DocAve_Connector_for_SharePoint_File_Share_Integration.pdf). This is the only one I'm aware of.

  • Apple Mac no longer accesses Windows XP shared Folder on Network

    Hi All,
I have a PC running Windows XP hooked up via an ethernet hub to my three macs. I was able to access the "My Documents" folder on the PC no problem (I set it up to be shared on the PC).
I recently had to replace my ADSL modem. I used the installation disk that came with it on one of my Macs, now this Mac can't access the shared PC folder.
It networks fine with the other Macs, and the other Macs talk fine to the PC. The internet connection is fine for all computers (including the PC).
However, when I try to access the folder on this one Mac, I get the message:
"The Alias "XXXXXX" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found"
I am then invited to either fix or delete the alias. When I try to delete the alias, I am told that I don't have sufficient privileges (even though I am logged in as an administrator). I can't fix it, because I can't locate what I want it to point to.
I have tried renaming the PC. What happens then is that the alias is also renamed (so the Mac is seeing it after a fashion), but the alias still won't work on this one computer.
I can't help thinking that the install disk has altered network settings somehow on this computer, but I don't know where to go from here.
    Help, please!
    Cheers!
    Karl

    Hi
    Thanks for your reply:
When I used Terminal, this is what happened (I'd logged in as a root user):
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:~ root#
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:~ root# cd /automount
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:/automount root# ls
    Servers static
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:/automount root# sudo rm Servers
    rm: Servers: is a directory
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:/automount root# sudo rm servers
    rm: servers: is a directory
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:/automount root# sudo rm static
    rm: static: is a directory
    Karl-Texlers-Computer:/automount root# cd/Network
-sh: cd/Network: No such file or directory
So I still can't delete the servers.
What should I do now, please?
    Cheers!
    Karl
I think they are at the Root of the HD, in the
    hidden Files/Folders/Aliases called...
    automount/Servers
    automount/static
    Network
    In Terminal type or paste...
    cd /automount
Type ls into terminal to be sure we are there, should
    show like...
    bdaqua:/automount bdaqua$ ls
    Servers static
    Now type...
    sudo rm Servers
    After entering and completing, type...
    sudo rm static
    Then type... cd /Network
An ls command should show like ...
    bdaqua:/Network bdaqua$ ls
    Servers
    Type...
    sudo rm Servers
Reboot and see if we fixed it.
CAUTION: sudo gives you Super Powers, and rm will
remove whatever is typed after it... so you can, if
    not precise/careful, remove anything/everything!

  • File context menu disappears (in shared folder, if some files in it are bein modified)

    Hi!
    The problem is:
When I'm in Windows Explorer in shared folder on network drive (SMB), trying to open context menu for any file in this folder, it will show and then disappear in ~1 second, so I can't have time to select item in context menu, especially in any sub-menu!
    It only happens if:
    1) some (another) file is downloading in that moment to THIS shared foolder
    2) some (another) file is editing by another user in that moment, or some log is writing by some software in that folder,
or archive is unpacking in that folder
    and so on..

    Hi,
I haven't heard others have this kind of issue.
Please remove that network drive completely, and then follow below guide to re-map it for test:
Connecting to a Samba Directory: Windows 8
    https://oit-nb.rutgers.edu/documentation/remote-drive-mapping-samba/connecting-samba-directory-windows-8
Make sure the folder permission is the same as Windows XP.

the simple thing is that you need to have the folder on the xi server if you have to use NFS to access it.
Else FTP would be the choice. I am not sure how it would act in case you are able to mount the external folder on to the XI server. As somebody from your network team if thats a possibility and try to access it via NFS else you will have to go for FTP only.

  • When accessing shared folder - 'You might not have permission to use this network resource" .. A device attached to the system is not functioning

On a Windows 2008 R2 server that had been working fine, all of a sudden some shared folders became inaccessible.  Clicking on them returned the following: "<Folder> is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network
resource.  A device attached to the system is not functioning."
If I create another share with a different name for that same folder, it works fine.  If I delete the original share then recreate it with the same name, I get the same error.  However, if I right click on the problematic share and select 'map
network drive' that works.  So this would not appear to be a permission issue.
I discovered this problem because the path for mapping the home folder as a property of their AD account stopped working.
I have tried most of the common things found on the internet.  I've tried accessing via IP, same issue.  While I only have a couple 2003 servers, those can access this resource.
At this point, I'm pretty much out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.  I also have some reports of potential issues with some printer mappings too which I will have to investigate in the morning.
If anyone has a solution to this I would be extremely grateful.  Thank you.

  • Home Sharing Folder Empty on all client PC's on Home Network

I have Home Sharing 'on' on all my local PC's (3 of them). I can see the Shared Folder on each of my PC's in iTunes, but when I click on the folder from a non-host PC, NO songs, movies or TV Shows appear! Folder and sub folders (music, movies, TV shows, etc,) are all empty.
Home Sharing DID work just fine for a year. But sometime within the past month or two - perhaps after an iTunes "update" - it no longer works. All settings checked - "shared" my Library in Preferences, turned on Home Sharing on each PC, all are on the same simple home network. And again, the Shared Folder IS visible on each PC - there is just no content in the folder! I am offically stumped. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey ArnoDWG,
Thank you for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having issues with home sharing, and that these issues are isolated to your PC. I also want to thank you for providing information about your security software, as this may be the cause.
For more information, see the following resource:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
While the entire article provides great help, the most relevant information may be Section 5: "Check Firewall Settings":
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

    Hi!
I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. What's going on?

Hi RRFS!,thanks for help.I forgot to tell that hard drive has 2 partitions 1:format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that works properly,2:format:MS-DOS (FAT32) and when i "get info" for both :first has shering & permitions:You can read and write - with name and privilege, second has shaing & prermissions:You can read and write- without name and privilege

  • File sharing: Need to be able to edit file & save to a shared folder on a different networked iMac's HD

We have new iMac's (running OS X 10.9.1) and they are all on the same network.  There is a folder on computer #1 (folder is named: 2010) with Word & Excel documents in it (we have to use those instead of Pages & Numbers) that needs to be shared and accesible by computer #2.  This has been done successfully.
The problem is:  When I make changes to the files from computer #2 (or if I add a folder), the files are not accesible on computer #1 any longer...you can see there are new files or folders, but you can't interact with them from computer #1 if they were created on computer #2.  From computer #2, I created a folder named "2014 Ledger" in the shared folder, and when I look at the newly created folder on computer #1, it has a red dot with a minus sign in the bottom right?  When I click on it, it gives me an error.
I called Apple Care, but they didn't seem to know how to be able to edit & save a shared file on one computer, but keep the main file saved to the hard drive of the other computer.  We did this for years with our PC's on a network, so I guess I just figured Mac's could do it as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how we can access the files on computer #1 after they've been altered and saved or created on computer #2?
These screen shots are from computer #1 (the computer where the folder should be hosted on the hard drive):

    Jens Grotzscherst wrote:
Now I'm unsure if I need to change permissions to the 300GB worth of files on that external drive. (that's question #1.)
If you want to allow anyone accessing as "user" to be able to read or write all files on that volume, you could do that. You should also be able to set the volume attribute to ignore ownership:
    http://www.peachpit.com/guides/content.aspx?g=mac&seqNum=256
If I look at those files from a client machine, logged in as 'user', Finder tells me they belong to 'unknown'.
I imagine that they're owned by a user with a user ID that's not present on that machine.
Question #2: If I understand correctly, the settings on the server's Sharing preferences pane only apply for ACCESS to the shared folder (i.e. they make it possible to log in via AFP).
If that were the case, there would be no need for the "Read & Write" / "Read Only" setting in the Sharing panel.

  • Can not edit file on network shared folder after upgrading to windows 7

Merry Christmas and happy new year,
Due to some configuration changes on a specific application, I have forced to upgrade OS of a few number of workstations from Windows XP to windows 7. After upgrading I am facing a strange problem on WIN7 workstations. These workstation are member of a Windows
2008 R2 Active Directory domain which also has a Windows 2003 advanced server additional domain controller. Also there are a number of shared folders on some member servers (all windows 2003) which are mapped as network drives at user logon. Before upgrading
mentioned workstations to WIN7, users was able to edit his/her files on all of mapped network drive according to his/her permissions without any problem on their WINXP workstations, But after installing windows 7 they begin facing problem on one of these mapped
network drives and the problem exactly is when they edit a file, in more specific word an excel file, and then try to save, the excel returns an error message of "document not saved" and exit the excel program. It becomes more strange when you learn
that the edited excel file is disappeared and replace with some "tmp" file. If user copy the excel file to his/her own desktop, edit it and then copy it back to its original place on mapped network drive, it will be replaced normally with its older
version. In other words if user wants to edit an excel file on that specific network drive, he/she must edits it somewhere else and then replace it on the network drive. If the same user uses a WINXP box, there will be no problem.
Can anybody help me to fix the issue?
    TIA
    Bijan

    Thank you Karen,
The problem is fixed, but my case was none of what you suggested. In fact I have
another problem which I described in another question and it was of the root of this excel file issue. I describe what I have done to fix the latter problem hope to help fixing similar issues to mine.
Okay, as it is described in the
question, I was not able to open a shared folder with its UNC address while it could be mapped as a network drive without any problem. I examined what I was replied and some other ways, came to no result. I decided investigate a similar shared folder in
permissions to problematic one to see if the problem is repeated. So I created a folder and shared it with similar permissions and examined it. Surprisingly there was no problem. It was wise to remove sharing of the problematic folder and share it again to
see if the problem resist. But when I tried to remove sharing I received an error message saying that
the shared folder is related to a DFS root. When I took a look at the DFS roots of domain there was no sign of the problematic folder (that made me recall that I created a DFS root with problematic folder mistakenly and removed that DFS root).
After little searching, I found out that the problem could be caused by traces of the removed DFS root. Yep! I found the suspect! The registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DFS\Domain\problematic shared folder. I removed the key restarted DFS service and log off and on and Bingo!
This problem pops up a few more questions:
    1) Why is not the registry key related to removed DFS root deleted from the registry of windows 2003 server?
    2) Why was I able to browse this ex-DFS root shared folder without any problem in windows XP while it was problematic in windows 7?
    3) As there is no special client service for DFS and user can access DFS root targets like other shared folders what is the deference between shared resource access mechanisms in windows XP and windows 7 that caused the problem?
    Bests,
    Bijan

  • Can't open files created or pasted by network user in my shared folder, why?

When a user creates a file or drops one over network in my shared folder I can't open it without changing permissions first.
After installing 10.7.3 update Windows computer were not able to access my iMac anymore. After solving that issue this one was left for me to fight with.
I we googled hard and tried all permission repair methods listed, nothing helped.
Files created by Windows SMB users have RW permissions only for that user, an No access for Everyone. There are no permissions defined for me or staff group or anybody.
    Thank you for your ideas.

I haven't found a solution to this problem yet. All Windows users now access my Mac with my username, changing permission all the time became annoying. This is not a solution, rather an easy way out.
I Would very much appreciate if someone has a proper solution.

  • Followed Folder and Network sharing but still can't see MAC

I have made one folder on the Mac desktop that is shared with appropriate permissions. That folder is set for sharing with read write rights to users called Guest. I can see the MAC as a network workgroup computer but opening the computer icon no share folders are shown. I am completely unable to see it in "my network places" which is where all other PC's in the same workgroup are seen. File sharing is turned on in the iMAC.
If I can't see the shared folder from my PC, I can't drop files into that folder. I have done everyting I know to do. Is there anyone who could assist with this issue. I do have the SMB option checked for working with Windows PC that are on the same workgroup.
    Thanks

I suggest that you use the full featured AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Download and install it and it will work side by side with AirPort Utillty 6.1 on your Mac.
Reset the Express back to Factory Default Settings and confgure the Express using wireless only.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Open AirPort Utility 5.6 , select the Express and click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the row of icons to name the Express, establish a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode setting box and select Join a wireless network.
Enter the Wireles Network Name of the Cisco network to be joined
The Wireless Security settings must exactly match with the Cisco settings
Enter the Wireless Password and Verify Password.
Click Update, close AirPort Utility as soon as you see that the settings have been stored and you should have a green light in 40-45 seconds.
