An Obscure Problem

So, I have an Ipod Video. I was surfing the web when I saw that apple had come out with updated firmware, so I dived right in. I updated my iPod and the message come up on my computer that it had transfered the firmware and that the iPod had to load. But there was no load bar under the apple on the screen of my iPod. Thinking it was just taking a while, I decided to let it go for some time. I came back to find that there was still no load bar, and that the black screen with a silver apple on it was still there. So I decided I would reset it (menu+select). But the iPod just went to a white screen like it was off, and wouldn't turn on.
The next day, I took it around with me as I usually would to see if any of my more iPod literate friends could help. Then a horrible thing happened. My friend droped my iPod onto the floor, cracking the LCD screen when it fell. The ipods cover was unattached from its back so I popped it back into position.
So now I have an iPod that won't run, and a broken LCD screen.
Now for my question. I just baught this iPod a few days after Christmas. Will apple fix it or replace it because the way I see it, they would need to atleast help fix the iPod firmware problem. Thanks to anyone who helps answer this question.
One more thing. Does anyone have an e-mail address for the apple support site becasue I can't seem to find it. Thanks

Regardless of what happened before the iPod was dropped, Apple wouldn't replace a unit that suffered accidental damage. Once damaged there would be no way of acertaining that it was faulty beforehand. You don't say whereabouts in the world you are but to contact Apple simply log on to your particular Apple site - Apple.com for the US, Apple.com/uk for the United Kingdom and at the bottom of the screen you'll see a Contact Us link, there will be numbers etc there.

  • Here's an obscure problem...

    Unfortunately I didn't think to bring a copy of the
    photos.xml file with me, but I can generate one easily enough if

    I'm using Photoshop Elements 4.0 on a Mac running OS X Tiger
    (hereafter called "PE") to generate the photos.xml file I need for
    my web-galleries.
    This is a simple "Create web gallery" under the "File" menu;
    I point the destination to a generic folder and then pluck the
    photos.xml file after PE has done its thing. This saves me from
    having to tediously write the XML file for Spry. I finally figured
    out why I was getting lots of "undefined" errors: PE puts in a lot
    of "stuff" immediately after <gallery.
    So it's:
    <gallery
    lot of content
    date=2/17/07>
    rest of photos.xml
    If I take the "lot of content" out, leaving <gallery>,
    the page works. With that content in, it doesn't work! (I also do a
    find/replace to change "image" to "photo"; that apparently helps
    with a Safari bug.
    I don't have the resources, nor (to be honest) the
    inclination, to figure out why. I just thought I'd mention it here,
    in case anyone else has come across this problem. If needed, I can
    post the pre- and post-processed photos.xml files.

  • Obscure problem with File/Folder sharing

    I have a problem sharing files between one PC and several others.  A while back I changed hostnames for several of my PCs.  The problem computer never updated the hostnames - it reports the old hostnames under View Details and Alerts.  It's communicating, after a fashion - I can share a folder and it shows up in the other computers, but if I try to open it they report either that the network object can't be found or that permissions are insufficient.
    I tried shutting down each PC, then removing it from the Map on the problem computer, then starting it back up and adding it back on the problem computer - but the old host names are retained, still.  How can I correct this problem?

    There doesn't seem to be any actual support for Network Magic at the "Support" link - just a bunch of generic FAQs and links to this Forum.  I was under the impression that some actual support people hung out here and might be able to research an actual question.  I'm having what seems to be a "bug" where the hostname won't update, and I thought A) that someone in product development would care, and B) there might be a way to get it to refresh its information.

  • Missing message(s) tag obscures problems

    If you inadvertently introduce an error to your application, and has forgotten to put a message or messages
    tag in your page, the behaviour is confusing (the app. just seems to stop working).
    An example is if you insert an inputText tag bound to a property having only a getter and no setter,
    and you forget to set disabled="true" on it.
    The default behaviour should not be just hiding the error (one has to look carefully in the log to find it).
    If the end of the RENDER_RESPONSE phase is reached, and there still are unprocessed
    messages, some sort of output should be rendered, to signal to the user (or developer) that
    something is wrong in the application.
    Hence the message and messages tags should act not only as renderers but also as consumers of FacesMessages in the FacesContext.
    An idea for the next release?

  • Some Obscure Problems

    Hello,
    I have a Spark Text Area that has been packaged into a a SWC, and then that SWC is implemented in a Flex 4 application, then that Flex application is loaded into a SWFLoader in a parent Flex 4 application.
    In this environment, the highlighted text in the TextArea is completely black.  What style properties would be used to address this and why is it black?
    Also, even more troubling, the textFlow of the TextArea is not dispatching the FlowOperationEvent.FLOW_OPERATION_BEGIN or FlowOperationEvent.FLOW_OPERATION_END events in this configuration.
    Any recommendations?

  • Iphone 4s bluetooth volume problems through Alpine HU

    Having trawled through numerous reports of bluetooth problems with the 4S I have not found one which replicates my issue although I could have missed it.
    Essentially I think my query boils down to " Does the 3GS output music, via bluetooth at a higher level than the 4S, assuming both using IOS5.0.1" .Because my new iphone 4S is much much quieter than my old 3gs and I want to establish whether this is a software problem or a faulty unit.
    For the last couple of years I have been using a 3GS which paired perfectly with my Alpine CDA-9887/Bt400 stereo in the car, handled calls well and when playing music via the bluetooth input ( which it did exceptionally well) it was at the same sound level as the other inputs for a given vol setting, i.e. I could switch from radio, to disc to bluetooth withouth changing the volume.
    Having just changed to an iphone 4S I have found that although the unit pairs ok and seems to handle calls well enough (although rather mushy sounding compared to 3GS) it is very quiet when using the ipod function via bluetooth.
    Volume and sound quality are very subjective I realise but to give an indication of the problem, the Alpine head unit has a volume scale from 0-39. On all inputs (except with the 4S) a volume of 5 is fine for spoken voice, 12 good for music on the move 21 is very very loud pushing the cars speakers to the limit. These levels are approx the same when playing music through an iphone 3GS and an ipod touch via bluetooth.
    By contrast the iphone 4S is inaudible at vol 5, needs 20 to be listenable to on the move and even at vol 39 sounds thin and about as load as a 3GS at vol18  so ful vol not possible from my iphone 4S
    The main problem with this is that if you are listening to music from the iphone 4S then switch to the radio without remembering to drastically reduce volume it is likely to result in damage to the speakers and/or your eardrums. The problem is compounded as I use the TomTom app regularly and this exibits the same problem, the volume needs to be very high for instructions and then if I change input to listen to the news....ouch.
    I have tried 2 iphone 3GS's and an ipod touch on this Alpine unit and they all work perfectly, being able to maintain the same output for a given HU vol level as the radio etc. I have tried increasing the bluetooth volume on the 4S handset, have tried clean restore to see if there is some obscure problem with my backup all to no avail.
    Has anyone upgraded from a 3GS to a 4S and found the music level in a car via bluetooth much quieter, the same or louder and does this sound like a hardware problem.

  • Hard disk problems with Far7 ?

    Hello Everyone, I am new to this board, and this is my first post.
    I purchased a FAR7 board about a month ago, and slowly came to realize I could  not get Windows XP Pro to install.
    The problem appeared to be with the IDE Controller.  In the BIOS, it would not autodetect correctly and the install would always freeze at the point where windows would be started and it needed to communicate with the drive in 32bit mode.
    Not to mention needing to clear the CMOS constantly, reset, reboot, etc.
    Below is the letter that I submitted when I RMA'd this board, I hope this might help if anyone else is having a similar problem, or perhaps others have fought this battle and succeeded where I have not.
    Just wanted to add that I appreciate that MSI has this support board, they do have a good service record as far as I am concerned, which is a very important consideration when choosing hardware.
    I have bought many MSI graphics cards, motherboards and add in cards exclusively for the past several years and have never had a single issue with any of them and have been totally satisfied with all of them.
    Any comments, thoughts, suggestions are appreciated !!
    2x 242 Opterons
    Antec TruePower 2.0 550 EPS power (dual 12V rails 19A each).
    Kingston PC2700 ECC KVR333S4R25/512 2.5 REG (QVL Cert by MSI for this board)
    BIOS 1.12
    Main problem:
    IDE Hard Disk Channel not working correctly in 32bit mode.
    Cannot install Windows XP Professional
    Cannot install Windows XP Professional with SP2 slipstreamed
    Setup was a Single Master disk on IDE Primary
    Cable Select on Hard Disk and 80 line cable supplied with the motherboard.
    I am able to see the hard disk in 16 bit DOS, only if I select
    [IDE Primary Master]->[Access Mode]->[LBA] (no matter which drive I tried)
    I am not able to edit Capacity, Cylinder, Head, Precomp, Landing Zone or Sector
    These are automatically filled in when an Access Mode is seleted
    (like LBA, CHS, Large or Auto).
    This contradicts the manual on pages 3-6 and 3-7 which
    says these parameters can be edited.
    In the case of the Western Digital 1200JB drive, selecting
    [Access Mode]->LBA did appear to select the correct
    Capacity, Cylinders, Heads but the same problem occurred with all
    drives tried.
    Otherwise, I am not able to access the disk drives.
    Booting directly from Windows XP pro CD, installation is able to proceed
    until the point where Windows is started and installation tries to do anything
    related to accessing the hard disk.  System freezes.
    I tried installing Windows XP pro via DOS,
    Booted from DOS floppy, format 2 GB C: partition
    run winnt.exe from <CDROM>/i386
    Copies files to the hard disk, starts windows and freezes
    at same place as above when installing off of
    installation CD of Windows XP Pro.
    Secondary problems:
    Constant freezing during power up on Memory test
    Several reboots needed to produce successful post
    Things I have tried:
    New power supply -> Antec EPS TruePower 550 watt supply.

    I have spent many hours and considerable expense,
    trying to make this motherboard work.
    I have made many attempts to install Windows XP Professional.
    and tried many variations of the BIOS settings but no success.
    Please help, it cannot be this hard to setup a motherboard.

    I never used that JPWR2 connector, the manual stated that it was to supply power to the graphics card but my card has a regular 4 pin molex that i could get directly from the power supply.  Wonder if the board would blow up if someone stuck the 4pin lead from their PSU in there ... maybe not such a great feature.

  • Random Freeze with { UNC } error - hard disk problems?

      My laptop randomly freezes for a couple of seconds frequently. I am running 2.6.30-ARCH in a dell inspiron. I did a check on the /var/log/errors.log and found the follwing block of errors occuring over and over again as soon as the freeze up happens.

    i did some googling and found out this may be due to damaged areas in the hard disk or the hard disk is about to fail. (is it true?)
    I followed some other thread, used system rescue cd and did a fsck -f on the root partition. I still keep getting these randon freezes. is there anything i can do to fix these?

  • Problems with terminal application - characteristic HD noises

    Hi,
    I hope you can advise me for the rather obscure problem I am having. I have installed Darwin ports and am using the python app hellanzb, which is an automated usenet downloader. The problem that I have is that now, when starting up the terminal for the first time, quitting the terminal or opening a new shell, the system grinds to a halt for approx. 30s, during which time the HD spins in a consistent way. (dot-d-dot, dot-d-dot, dash, dash as it happens). Now I can understand this happening if the python app is already working but the fact that the behaviour is repeated when the hellanzb app is not working is confusing me.
    The obvious solution would be to get rid of darwin ports but some of the programs that darwin ports enables have been handy to me (the R stats program).
    Any ideas or has anyone else encountered this minor (but annoying glitch)?

    Trashing the preference file brought up the terminal window much faster - it defaulted to the tcsh. I was previously using the bash shell and when I changed the shell in the terminal preferences file, the hard disk whirring pattern described above started again and the terminal prompt took ~15s to appear, something that was instantaneous in the tcsh.
    I guess that this mean that the problem lies with loading the bash shell. Is there a tcsh equivalent to .bashrc? I have been using bash because my friend told me that it was better than tcsh. Would the best option be to switch to tcsh?

  • PSE 7  Full Back up problem

    I have recently moved to a new desktop using Windows Vista 64bit. I installed Elements 7 and moved all my pictures across by doing a full back up on my previous machine (XP) and restored the catalogue in Vista. All seems to work well but having downloaded more photos I have tried to complete the first full back up on Vista using an external hard drive. Having calculated the space required when the back up starts I get the following message "Error encountered while writing file". I have tried several hard drives and get the the same message on each so I conclude it is not an issue with the hard drive. Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how it might be fixed? Many thanks.

    Some troubleshooting suggestions:
    1. Right-click the Photoshop Elements 7.0 icon in your start menu or desktop, and select Run As Administrator.  (On Vista, running as administrator is different than running in an account with administrator priviliges.)   You can often work around obscure problems with permissions this way.
    2. Try making a new test catalog with one pic in it and backing it up.  If the test catalog succeeds, then that suggests something particular to your main catalog.
    3. Try backing up to your C drive. If you can, then the problem is particular to your other drives; if you can't, the problem probably isn't permissions.
    4. Try disabling your anti-virus.

  • Problem after 9.2 / 8.17 updating - proxy authentication returns

    We just updated to 9.2 and 8.1.7 of Acrobat and Adobe Reader on our SME network (Windows XP SP3  clients connected to Microsoft SBS2003 Premium server, so a typical SME setup).
    When I then tried the usual [Check for Updates] I was unpleasantly surprised to see a previous problem appear - Acrobat and Adobe Reader both refused to connect to the internet without manual authentication to the Proxy Server (even when an admin account was logged in already). SBS2003 uses ISA as a proxy server, which works fine with all modern apps.
    This was a major problem with Acrobat/Reader (and CS) until fairly recently when I assume the teams responded to complaints and modified the apps so that updates could occur without someone manually traipsing around client machines to enter authentication details.
    Now we are back to square one - can someone please advise if this issue is 'accidental' (and hopefully therefore to soon be remedied) or if it was a deliberate move?
    If the latter, I'd be interested to hear the justification behind it - it is making Reader in particular more trouble than it is worth to install.

    Finally found another tread on this obscure problem -- I don't know why Adobe doesn't have a KB on this issue that their update causes.
    I added *.adobe.com to the ISA server rules then the clients could run updater fine again.

  • Wrong currency translation - weird problem

    I am trying to perform currency translation but for some reason the number is appearing different every time I run the currency translation. The translated values are 2 times +1 times the earlier translated value.
    We have the followign Rates:
    JPY =1 -report
    USD_M = 0.5
    USD = 0.5 -report
    All rates are M[ultiply]
    Translation 1 (for USD_M company)
    LC data = 1000 (no rate)
    USD  data =  1000 (rate=1 i expect this to be triangulated)
    JPY data = 500 (rate=0.5)
    Translation 2 (for USD_M company) - we just run FX Translation from DM again
    LC data = 1000 (no rate)
    USD  data =  2500 (rate=2.5 i expect 1)
    JPY data = 1250 (rate=1.25 i expect 0.5)
    I am using standrad script logic (FXTrans).
    Rate app is set to YTD = N/A (that is the only setting we have) we input all rates under PERIODIC.
    Also we removed the default logic in the Rate app and keyed directly into RateCalc to see if that was the problem.
    I am just wondering how the system is getting this different multiplier when I run the translation every time?

    Please ensure you are on the latest version of SQL SP.
    Then you can start investigating.
    Actually i noticed a pattern with your exchange rates. It seems the rate is actually tripled (i.e 0.5*3).
    It cannot be a coincdence that you have 3 members in RPTCURRENCY.
    Ensure you are passing LC to FXTRANS and not LC,USD,JPY as this would cause the problem you are having
    Perhaps you can post your FXTRANS script, in the meantime try putting
    *XDIM_MEMBERSET RPTCURRENCY=LC
    at the top of your FXTRANS logic file.
    This sounds like a very obscure problem, so please check your SQL and then App setup before changing anything.

  • Every time i try to load an application - I receive a note my credit card is declined.  How do i resolve this problem?  It won't take any other card?

    I would like to know what I need to do so I can use my iphone applications.  It won't take my credit card number or any other card?

    I assume that by "load" you mean "install from applestore"?
    If you do then there is a whole tomelike memo that Apple has for credit cards.  For instance you now can't use gift or vanilla prepaid cards anymore.  But that's probably not your problem here.  Maybe if you could offer a little more info as to where in the Apple maze this is happening?  And are you unable to use your applications (the ones you have successfully installed)?
    It sounds like a pretty obscure problem if you can't "load" (start? maybe) the applications that you've already downloaded from Applestore and are installed.  Is this the case or can you be a bit more specific and exact in your terminology?
    And have you previously, successfully installed Applestore apps on the very device you are now are having this problem on?  I have had numerous problems with credit cards, authorization and accounts so I may be able to help.  Apple is so unthinkably unthinking when they mesh with the real world that even just one hair out of place can bring you to a grinding halt with no clue as to why.
    Be more specific and detailed and I'll hang in with you if I can help.  Frustrating isn't it?

  • Mail (5.3) OS X 10.7.5 mail program crashing when opening an email with attachment. Any suggestions out there? I can open the mail program...send and receive emails...click on emails without attachments with no problem.

    I am having a problem successfully opening an email containing attachment. I can open the mail program...send and receive emails...and view emails that do not contain attachments. But whenever I click on an email containing an attachment, I get the spinning beach ball for a few seconds and then the entire program closes. Any suggestions before I make a one hour trip to the Apple store for help?

    I don't think an interactive portion of a PDF is an obscure problem (lots of designers I know use rollable PDF files for emailing 3D models) and while I understand that it's in a legacy program, there is no guarantee if I purchase Acrobat X, that the same problem won't exist. It's no an issue in Reader 10 but then again, it wasn't an issue in Reader 9 either. Since Adobe doesn't give trial versions for Mac (stupid), I have no way of checking this. The problem doesn't annoy me as much as being an Adobe product user who upgraded only to not have functionality and not have a way to have it resolved.
