ATT Fiber Ring 50MB line - no negotiating

Hello,
Firstly the situation we have here is that we are on the outskirts of an ATT Fiber Ring and we have servers currently hosted at an ATT Datacenter. They stated we could hop on that fiber box with their help and get a 50MB link to our cage in the datacenter...great news huh? They also stated that they would give us an Ethernet handoff...well they didn't...fiber instead. So we went out and bought 2 3560G with GBICs, one for each end. We tested the switches inside the office with a fiber cable and everything was fine.
So then we hooked up these switches to the Cisco ONS 15327 and ATT repeatedly told us that the circuit was fine...no problem...great. Still no data...they said just hook them up and ping...nothing else to configure. We did this and nothing happened. Also when doing a "show int gig0/49" we get line down and no lights on the outside of the GBIC on the 3560G. But when we flip the fiber cables the wrong way the 15327 seems to respond so there doesn't seem to be anything physically wrong with our setup.
I'm not terribly great with these things but ATT is not helping us at all. They said they have no Cisco techs that could help us...don't know why...seems pretty simple to me...we must be missing some sort of protocol or something for the handshake that isn't happening. I have included a copy of the configs maybe someone out there can at least shine some light before we tell ATT to shove it.
Thank you

The Cisco ONS 15305 transports Ethernet and TDM traffic inside an SDH frame for metropolitan-area network (MAN or metro) applications. The Cisco ONS 15305 can be used as customer premises equipment (CPE) for medium- and large-sized businesses - collecting voice and data traffic from each site for switched voiced and data services, Layer 1 and Layer 2 VPNs, and Internet access - for transport over an STM-1, STM-4, or STM-16 SDH uplink to the central office. The Cisco ONS 15305 can also be deployed as a central office aggregator; consolidating STM-1 access links from Cisco ONS 15302 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms or other Cisco ONS 15305 CPE, as well as directly connected customer TDM or data traffic from electrical interfaces

  • Backup interface on fiber ring

    We recently installed a 100Meg MPLS fiber ring into our office, and we were given redundant connections (north loop and south loop).
    The North loop is the primary interface, and will be used unless the fiber is cut.
    I need to configure our router to automatically switch to the south loop in the event that the north loop goes down.
    Here is the config I have so far, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
    interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0

     ip address X.X.X.X 255.255.255.252

    Am I correct in thinking that, should the North loop on Gi0/0/0 go down, it will automatically switch to Gi0/0/1 after 30 seconds of down time?
    If so, how do I go about switching back to the north loop when it comes back online?

    Hi,
    I have see this feature configure on few ISP. For this feature to work, interface needs to go down then only RP can send UP event to standby link and make it up.
    You can also go through below discussion on backup interface

  • Want to reinstall OS X on old mac before sale.  How do I connect it to internet service (ATT 'fiber optics') without a cable?

    Want to sell old iMac.  It has been backed up, de-authorized with iTunes, and wiped with the 35-pass erase.  Now I want to reinstall OS X but no longer have an internet cable as we have gone from TWC to the ATT 'fiber optics' system since the old Mac was erased.  Please help.

  • E72: what's difference of Ringing Tone, line 1 and...

    Going to Nokia E72's Control Panel, Settings->General->Personalisation->Tones
    There is an option:
    Ringing tone, line 1  (input tone file)
    Ringing tone, line 2 (input tone file)
    In my case, I used 2 different tones for line 1 and line 2.
    So far, when I receive I voice call, the tone I specified in line 1 will ring to signify an incoming caller.  I've always heard that ringing tone for my incoming voice calls.
    But just awhile ago, it used the ringing tone for line 2 when I got a voice call.  I was wondering, what that "line 2" ringing tone is used for until I heard that tone awhile back.
    When does "ringing tone line 2" get triggered anyway?

    I see, thanks for the quick explanation. So the caller must have mistakenly used "video call" instead of "voice call" (since video call is supposed to be quite more expensive to use).
    I believe our network supports video calls (it says "3.5G " in the E72's upper screen display), however, due to it's being more expensive, I think it's not used that much yet (at least I've never tried using it, and my guess is that my caller accidentally chose "video call" -- he quickly hangup the call and called through voice call [ringing tone line 1], which is why I didn't get to answer the video call when I heard the [ringing tone line 2 sound].)
    Is this thing documented in the Nokia documentation (ringing tone line 1  & 2) or is it from your actual experience?

  • 10 Gb oversubscribed port for Dark Fiber ring

    Hi, I understand that for an 8-port 10Gb module (6509) ports 1,2,5 & 6 are the only performance 10 Gb ports (true 20Gb at full duplex) Does this mean I will not get the 10Gb throughput for another port, I'm debating whether or not it is worth moving my 10Gb optical circuit (dark fiber) on a port #4 to a "performance" port such as 1,2,5 or 6. Thanks to all for your input.

    The 6708-10G card has 2 connections to the switch fabric
    Fabric Channel #1: Ports 2, 3, 6, 8
    Fabric Channel #2: Ports 1, 4, 5, 7
    As far as i understand it that means that if you want 10Gbps on the port you can only use 2 ports from each fabric channel.
    Cisco have provided a command to automatically shutdown ports 3,4,7,8 so that you are not oversubscribed on this module. But i don't think you have to use 1,2,5 & 6. You could use port 4 as long as you only used one other port from that fabric channel group ie. 1,5 or 7 and you would still get the full 10Gbps throughput.
    Note i haven't actually tested the above but it is based on the way that all the 6500 fabric enabled modules work.

  • CCM 4.1(3)sr3a different ring tone for different line

    Hi there,
    I've got a dual line 7941 phone and would like to configure different ring tone for each of the lines. eg. I've got ext 100 and 101 on my phone. i would like the phone to ring differently when a call comes into 100 and 101 so i can know just by the ring tone which number has been called.
    Can anybody help?
    Cheers,
    Jesminder

    Jesminder,
    Unfortunately ring tones are configured at a phone level. In order to do this you need to go to the phone, push the settings button, select ring type. From there you will get a menu. Line 1 of the menu is the default ring. Line 2 and on corresponding to your line numbers in order. So if you want CallManager line 2 to be a different ring tone then you will select line 3 from the ring type menu, it should have the extension number next to it.
    There also might be a way to set it via the web interface. You would want to post in the Ip Communications - Ip Phone services for end users forum.

  • Fiber to ethernet

    What is the best way to take advantage of a new fiber ring backbone installed within company. I want to add two divisions to our network now and would like to plan for the future, not just bring them in and use regular 10mb ethernet since we have the new fiber backbone. The fiber hasn't been fully installed, Presently we had a T1 line and two of our divisions accessed the network through the T1's. A media converter was used from the patch panel to the switches. Switches are used throughout the divisions (all within a 3 mile radius of the central point). I need to bring in a new division now and want to take advantage of the new fiber. What is the best switch to use to get the best performance. The divisions that are being brought in will not have more than 8 users.

    It depends. How many strands of fiber are available between each location? Many strands may mean you can set up point-to-point links in a hub/spoke or star topology. If only two to four strands or so in a true ring topology, and you may be better off considering SONET or CWDM; but that equipment can get pricey very quickly, and is hard to cost-justify for 8-user locations.
    I assume of course that it's all single mode fiber.
    Cost-wise, the least expensive way to get those eight users at each location onto the fiber with only Cisco equipment would be...let's say L2 or L3 switches like the 2950G or 3550, with LX/LH GBICs. Or maybe 3750 switches and LX/LH SFPs.
    Or, use media converters to connect the 10/100 switches in each location via 100-meg Fast Ethernet. But then you're talking third-party manufacturers, like Transition Networks (www.transition.com).

  • Support Line - Call Forward All through Hunt Pilot to cell phone

    I know I may be beating a dead horse, but I've found so much help in these forums that I figured I'd give it a shot.
    We have a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition and we are running into a configuration issue. What we would like to do is to create an emergency support line for our IT staff. The way we would like this to function is that a caller dials a number, CM accepts the call and dials out to our IT staff's cell phone numbers in a round-robin fashion. To avoid the caller getting dumped into the IT staff's voice mail on their cells, we would like the staff member to have to dial a number to accept the call. If there is no answer, the call rolls to the next cell number. If no one is available, the caller should be directed to Unity Connection to leave a message. Unity then will send out text and email messages to the support staff.
    I know that we can use Unity to perform an assisted transfer, which will require the user to press "1" to accept the call, and we are able to get Unity to send out the notifications (text and email) when a voice message is left. The issue is with Call Manager making the outbound calls to the cell phones.
    What we have attempted is to setup DNs that call forward all to the users cell numbers. These DNs have been added to a Line Group, which has a Hunt Pilot attached to it. Any time this pilot is called, we get a reorder. Using the DNA, we see that "no device is associated with the DN", which is under the DN for the first users cell forward. If we add that DN as a second line to that users IP Phone (7940), then the call into the Hunt Pilot rings that line on the IP phone, not the CFA to the cell phone.
    After weeks of digging around, it seems as though CFA in a Hunt is just not possible. My boss wants official word from Cisco about this, but TAC doesn't seem to want to help due to service contract issues (which blows my mind, as we have opened several cases in the past two months for configuration related issues). Our Business Edition came with Contact Center Xpress, although we do not have the resources available to install it. If CCX will carry out this task, that might be enough to push management into getting another server to support this, but without being able to play around with it, I don't know.
    If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this work, I would GREATLY appreciate the help!
    Thanks in advance,
    -Geoff

    Hi Geoff,
    Always interesting isn't it :)
    Call Forward settings on individual Hunt member phones are ignored when presented a call via the Hunt feature. Here is a clip;
    The concept of hunting differs from that of call forwarding. Hunting allows Cisco CallManager to extend a call to one or more lists of numbers, where each such list can specify a hunting order that is chosen from a fixed set of algorithms. When a call extends to a hunt party from these lists and the party fails to answer or is busy, hunting resumes with the next hunt party. (The next hunt party varies depending on the current hunt algorithm.) Hunting thus ignores the Call Forward No Answer (CFNA) or Call Forward Busy (CFB) settings for the attempted party. This also applies to CFWD ALL settings.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a00803edabe.html#wp107892
    So, any Forwarding settings have to be done on the Hunt Pilot itself. These Destination settings (on the Hunt Pilot) need to be configured to go to the Unity Voicemail Pilot # or perhaps this is where you Forward out to the Cell #;
    Hunt Forward Settings
    Forward Hunt No Answer - When the call that is distributed through the hunt list is not answered in a specific time, this field specifies how to forward the call.
    Destination This setting indicates the directory number to which calls are forwarded. (This can be the Directory Number of the Unity VM Pilot)
    Forward Hunt Busy - When the call that is distributed through the hunt list is busy in a specific time, this field specifies how to forward the call.
    Destination This setting indicates the directory number to which calls are forwarded. (This can be the Directory Number of the Unity VM Pilot)
    Maximum Hunt Timer - Enter a value (in seconds) that specifies the maximum time for hunting.(Used in conjunction with Forward Hunt Busy)
    Maybe you could leverage these Unity Connection configs to achieve your desired results. These will ensure that the Message is not left unattended;
    Cascading Message Notification
    Cascading message notification allows you to send notifications to a widening circle of recipients. Cisco Unity Connection continues to send notifications according to the devices you selected until the message has been saved or deleted by a recipient.
    For example, to create a cascade of message notifications for your Technical Support department,
    Chaining Message Notification
    Message notification can be set to "chain" to a series of notification devices if an attempt to send notification to the first selected device fails. The definition of failure to a notification device is based on the options you select for retrying a device that is not answered or is busy.

  • Argh! New line not being connected, although BT Op...

    Hi,
    New customer, new line ordered 03/08/11.  Existing phone provide is VM. There is a BT Master socket in house but socket condition unknown.
    BT Engineer due to come out 19/08.  On 8:03 on 19/08, got a text to say they had cancelled the visit as socket & wiring exists and everything is active (phone & BB).
    Except it's all dead.  Master socket, behind faceplate gives no dial tone or power to phone.  If I ring the line from a mobile, it rings, but nothing in the house.  Tried different phones etc.  There are 2 wires connected to the back of the master socket NTE5 plate.
    So, 2 engineer callouts 19/08 and 20/08.  19/08 cancelled on day and 20/08 cancelled without notice.  Bear in mind I had paid and ordered an engineer visit.  Grrrrrr!
    Thanks BT, is this the level of (in)competence I can expect over the next 18 months?  A

    Sales1 or Sales2."  ==> It works !!!!!!!
    Does a phone should register with not only its own number but also shared line phone's number ?
    Does it correct configuration for Shared line appearance ???
    <Question 4>
    2000 call to 3000, 3000 answer, 2000 and 3000 is connected.
    3000's line 1's LED is red and icon is  "3000 <-->".
    5000's shared line 3 's LED is red and blink intermittently and icon is "sip3000 <-->".
    If I push the shared line 3(sip3000) at 5000. call was picked up, thus 2000 and 5000 was connected.
    BUT, At 3000 there is no lines are turn RED (it means that the shared line is not monitored).
    I think the shared line "sip5000" at 3000 should be turn RED.
    Is it normal operation ?
    <Question 5>
    and finally, what scenarios does spa9000 supports with related to SLA?
    A --> B(C), C(B) ring simultaneously.
    hold, resume by each other.
    transfer or conference
    pickup established user by push shared line.
    what else ? If is there any service scenario document please let me know.
    what about intercom?
    When sceretary answer a call, how to let boss know? just seize a new line, make a call and transfer after answer ?
    or, assign new line with func like intercom and push that line to notice a new call to boss and then
    transfer or hold by sceretary resume by boss etc.,

    as of now its hard to tell the exact problem with your setup. i suggest that you try to reconfigure the device again. you may also try to check the admin guide for the device.

  • Admin Assistant with Multiple Line Pickups

    I'm VERY new to Cisco Call Manager and Unity.  I've researched my question to see if I can find out the answers on my own.  Since I've been unsuccessful, I wanted to find out if the community can help me, as it has done before.
    We have a few admin assistants that are asking if they can have their managers lines on their 7965 phones.  They want it to appear as a line that they can pick up, if their boss isn't answering.  They also want to know if they can tell if their boss is on that line.  I've tested by adding a 2nd DN on one of their buttons.  However, in doing so, when they go into their voicemail, to set their passwords, it sets the VM for the other line as well.  I've also tested this with a Group Call pickup, which worked, with one small issue.  The admin assistant wants to pick up their boss' line when he's not available.  When I set the call pick up group, it happens the other way as well.  When the admin assistant isn't available, her boss gets the call on his phone, which we don't want happening.
    We're using CM 8.x.x
    I do appreciate your help with this.  I have SO much to learn!

    Stavros,
    I don't follow the statement:
    However, in doing so, when they go into their voicemail, to set their passwords, it sets the VM for the other line as well.
    There are several approaches you can take and I'd recommend you focus on the most simple configuration, which is the first one you describe. You take the manager's phone DN/Partition and you share the line with the administrative assistants phone.  When the manager is on the phone, the admin will know because the line on their station will glow red. The admin can also see and/or hear the manager's line ring. You can also configure how the admin assistant is notified. The default is to ring the line, but you can also have it beep or just have a visual (no sound) notification.
    Now back to your voicemail issue. Again, I don't understand where you are running into problems. If I were to take a guess you may have your admins hitting the messages button and accidentally going into the manager's voicemail. This could happen if the manager has a VM waiting and the admin does not. On the device settings (for the admin's phone) look for the setting "Always Use Prime Line for Voice Mail". Toggle this to on and test your scenario.
    What this paramter does is force the phone to always access the voicemail using the line configured on the first button. Ideally, this is your admin's line (with manager lines shared on one of the other six buttons).
    Here is a link for more info on the parameter:

  • Several CWDM sites down after fiber fusing

    Hello.  We just fused some fiber on a CWDM ring, and several of the sites that were working before the fusing was done did not come back after the fusing was done.  I have tried doing shut/no shut on the core switch ports and the ports on the switches hooked to the core, but the ports do not come back up.  These were working fine before the fuse was done, nothing changed other than the fiber that was in building terminated at patch panels with patch cables was taken out of the lop by fusing the strands in the hand hold outside the building (the building is being torn down, so the fiber was no longer needed in the building)  5 of the other sites on the cwdm ring came back up, the 3 that did not come back up are the 3 farthest from the core switch, but they were working before the fusing.  At one of the sites I am reading -16 on the receive fiber at the sfp.  I have not rebooted the switches (3560 PoE) or the core switch (6509).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Mike Baker

    I have not tried a loopback at the switch.  I assume I would just jumper across on the mux/dmx box on the port that is feeding the sfp, loop transmit to receive?
    The distance varies, the entire fiber ring is 43 miles, the sites involved are probably 2 to 4 miles max from the site where the fusing was done.
    I did realize that the site that had the fusing done was a place where we changed 1 fiber in the pair that rides a specific "ring", it entered that site on one fiber and left for the next site on another, so in the fusing we lost that flip.  I corrected that this morning, but still have the 4 sites down on that specific ring, so still don't know what is wrong.
    I will try to do the loop back and check the status of the port on the core switch and see if it comes up with the loopback on. I even tried reloading one of the 3560 switches this evening gafter everybody went home, still no link on that port.
    Thanks.

  • Line connected but no internet

    So, on my HH4 I have an orange power light and a red B. If I go into advanced settings I can see that the line is connected with a downstream of 6880kbps and an upstream of 448kbps. However, on the home tab the internet lights keep circling and saying connecting. Is this an exchange fault does anyone know? Cheers.

    Just done a full reset. No change. Looking at the log, it sends and receives the Configuration ACK then CHAP receive Challenge, CHAP receive success: authentificaton failure.
    Then its an exchange or server problem, nothing you can do apart from ring the helpdesk.
    Have you checked your phone line to see if its working on the correct number? Its possible you have a crossed line with another non-BT broadband customer?
    Ring your line from a mobile to see if the phone rings.

  • ATT boxes for Uverse but no service

    They recently installed the ATT fiber optics cables and boxes in front of the homes in the Genesis subdivision, on Eden Lane (sometimes called Circle) in Huntsville, Al. The ATT guys putting it in said we would now be able to get UVerse. Well, I wish ATT would update their website and customer service (phone) employees. One day I spent 1 hour and 15 minutes to their customer service agents. Most of us living on this street had Uverse when living in other cities and states. Now we have all these ATT boxes in front or near our homes yet cannot get service. DISH computer is slow and often goes down during rain! Why is ATT ignoring its customers who already have ATT for landline and cell phones?

    It took about 6 months from the time they finished laying the fiber and started setting up the VRAD in our neighborhood before they started offering U-verse service.

    Hello! I'm new in this network infrastructure and i have to create a fiber ring between 3 ons 15454 dwdm but i managed only to make an osc between them . On every platform i have an transponder 2.5Gbps. My problem is that i can't create some provisionable patchcord and also some ochcc,only ochnc and when i activate the transponders my rx com line on every opt-bst show me an "incoming payload signal absent" error. Can anyone give me some advice or some steps to follow in creating this ring ? Hope i've been clear and sorry my poor english. Thank's a lot!
