Automatically start lync 2013

we have deployed lync 2013 recently and if a user has never logged into a PC they need to launch lync for the first time manually before the program automatically starts.  after a user logs in and launches lync from then on the user will get lync automatically
to launch after login.
is there a way to launch lync automatically for everyone that logs into the computer?  that way as new users/profiles are created/used on the PC lync would launch automatically.
BTW, under settings -- personal lync is setup to automatically start lync when i log on to windows

Sure, there's a key you can push out with Group Policy:

  • Error when starting Lync 2013 meeting with Office 32 bit windows 8.1 64 bit.

    Hi,
    have Office pro 2013 32 bit and lync 2013 32bit on win 8.1 64 bit. And I can't start lync meeting's. Lync are working. When i start lync detting error " that lync have trouble and that the program has to be restarted." the choise
    is to repare or Close. eighter helps. Any one has any suggestions what to do.

    Its reasonably uncommon for the client to just crash as far as I have seen. As Desmond has mentioned I would try the latest updates (ensuring that you also have the latest supporting updates for Office). If this doesnt help you may need to look deeper in
    the OS.
    Hope it helps!

  • Outlook 2013 and Lync 2013 suddenly cannot run at the same time

    We recently switched to Office 365 and up until this month's Tuesday Patch Day, everything was working great. As soon as I installed the patches from 3/12/2013. Ever since then I've had the following issue:
    Launch Outlook 2013
    Launch Lync 2013
    Get the following dialog box: "Outlook Data File: The file <filename> is in use and cannot be accessed. Close any application that is using this file, and then try again. You might need to restart your computer."
    Click Ok to dismiss the dialog box. Everything seems to function normally.
    About three minutes later I get the following dialog box: "We're sorry, but Outlook has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Outlook will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?"
    Click Close. Everything seems to function normally.
    Steps taken to attempt to a fix:
    I deleted the Outlook profile and recreated it from scratch. No improvement.
    I rebooted the machine. No improvement.
    I repaired the Outlook data file. No improvement.
    Other notes:
    If I start Outlook 2013 by itself, it works fine and no dialog boxes.
    If I start Lync 2013 by itself, it works fine and no dialog boxes.

    Hi all,
    I had the same problem as the original poster, and I fixed it using the method I'm about to describe.  First, let me state that I am using a volume-license version of Office 2013 Standard, installed the conventional way ... we are not using the desktop
    apps available with Office 365 plans E3+E4 or "Midsize Business".
    I had originally installed Lync 2013 using a 'streaming' installer that you find by logging into the Office 365 Portal site -> Office 365 Settings -> Software -> Lync -> Install.
    That installer does not work with the version of Office 2013 I'm using.  I uninstalled Lync, and reinstalled using the links below:
    (32-bit):
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35451
    (64-bit):
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35450
    The version of Lync that you choose (32-bit or 64-bit) has to match the version of Office 2013 you already have installed.  Upon installing the 64-bit version of Lync at the URL above, the error message "Outlook
    Data File: The file <filename> is in use and cannot be accessed." disappeared and Outlook and Lync now happily cooperate.

  • Lync 2013 client not finding audio device

    I've got a problem with the Lync 2013 client on Windows 7 x64 Ent that's  giving me a real headache, please help!
    It's the 32-bit version (15.0.4535.1002) downloaded with Office 365 Pro Plus and it's refusing to pick up my USB headset/microphone - a Plantronics Blackwire C320-M. The message I get in Lync Tools|Audio Device is "We didn't find an audio device,
    which you need for calling"
    First and foremost, the device is working with the Lync 2010 64-bit client without issue
    (I've not yet de-installed it) and is showing as working correctly in my Device Manager.
    I'm aware of a few similar threads here and elsewhere where this has been seen, so I've tried the following advice:
    1. Tried a different Headset (Plantronics C310-M)
    2. Installed all MS Office 2013 updates
    3. Reset all Generic USB and USB Root Hubs listed in Device Manager USB Controllers
    4. Disabled "Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" for each of the above USB Controllers
    5. Uninstalled and reinstalled USB controllers above
    6. Removed old/stale USB drivers using 3rd party tool (USBDView)
    7. Multiple restarts of my HP Compaq Pro 6300 Micro Tower PC!
    None of the above has made any difference. Any helpful suggestions very gratefully received!
    Thanks
    Paul

    If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
    The following information was included with the event:

    I tried both a "Repair" and "Online Repair" in Control Panel | Programs and Features | Office 365 Pro Plus. The events still appear when starting Lync 2013.

  • Lync 2013 client is deployed but user accounts are not migrated from OCS to Lync 2013 Server - how to open Lync meetings automatically in the Lync Web Plug-in

    We have in our enterprise the following scenario:
    1 - Lync 2013 client is installed
    2 - User accounts are not migrated to Lync 2013 Server, users are using Office Communicator as their main tool
    3 - Users receive Lync 2013 meeting requests but when try to access them, Lync 2013 client launches and shows error. Users will need to open the browser and paste the URL to the address bar but this still open
    4 - We cannot use the workaround of adding "?SL=1" to the Lync 2013 meeting URL as the user base is large and manual workaround is not accepted
    5 - Question: is there any automated way, via egistry key or GPO setting, so that users temporarily (until their accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 server) can bypass Lync 2013 client completely and automatically open all Lync 2013 meetings
    on the browser, using Lync Web Plug-in?

    Thanks for the response,
    First, I should have mentioned clearly that users have Office Communicator 2007 client and Lync 2013 client installed in their machines. Their accounts are not migrated yet to Lync 2013 server.
    Second, we are using IE9 and IE10. The issue is that users CAN join Lync 2013 meetings with their browsers but have to paste the URL manually to browser and add "?SL=1" otherwise, if they just click at the "Join Online Meeting" or "Join
    Lync Meeting" URL it launches Lync 2013 client which shows error because is not configured yet, as they are using OCS client and migrating slowly to Lync 2013 server.
    Is there a Group Policy setting or a registry key from Microsoft that can be turned on to these users machines and make will all Lync meeting requests to be opened in IE browser instead of Lync 2013 client. We need a way to ignore
    Lync 2013 client until user accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 Server. Manually typing URLs is not an option in a big organization, can't explain thousands of users of different levels what to do.
    We are regretting the decision not to separate Lync 2013 from Office 2013 package we deployed recently. If Lync 2013 is uninstalled then all Lync meeting requests are opened in browser without an issue.

  • Lync 2013 crashes on start up.

    My Lync 2013 client is crashing on start up.
    I already tried to completely remove Office 2013 en re-install it, but that doesn't help. All Windows updates are installed.
    Running as Administrator also doesn't solve the issue.
    All other Office programs are working.
    When I start Lync, after 2 seconds this happens:
    I see this error on the Event viewer:
    I have a HP 8770w with Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit.
    Office Professional Plus 2013, 64 bit version.

    Try to update your Graphic Card drivers to the latest version

    Please try to disable any local antivirus software to see if that fixes the issue.
    Please remove Silverlight and reinstall it:

    Delete the Lync .exe from the Programs (x86) folder and then launching from the start bar.

    Hi
    The solution is to do a ‘repair’ install of Office 2013.  This will reregister the needed components and the popups will stop.
    A repair install can be done from ‘Programs and Features’, highlight Office 2013 and click ‘Change’.  When the install wizard appears, choose the ‘repair’ option.

  • Skype for Business not updating icons on start menu - Using OCT for Lync 2013 deployment

    We're currently deploying Lync 2013 to out fleet using the OCT to customize where the shortcuts are created.
    What we are finding is that the Skype for Business Patch does not update these icons.  It only updates the icons if they are in the default location (no OCT).
    Is there a standalone Installer for Skype for Business we could apply a TRANSFORM to? Or some other method of updating all icons startmenu, taskbar etc.

    Your deployment meets the minimum requirements for Lync Mobile 2013 App.
    Anyone have any suggestions on where to go next?  Troubleshooting an intermittent connection issue that only affects one mobile platform is tough...especially when all the testing tools say everything is configured correctly :)
    Thanks in advance!
    Tom

    I have the same problem, and we have netscaller as revrse proxy solution and we have the required records created for mobility.
    with lync2010 mobility it is working fine, but with lync 2013 mobiltity we have intermittent issue with error e2-3-33 error
    raghu
    I had the same problem (e2-3-33 on mobile devices at random times) and it turns out it was McAfee antivirus causing the UCWA service to crash repeatedly. The workaround for it is outlined in the below blog entry I found as well as the below Microsoft document.
    Long story short you want to run  follow the steps outlined in the workaround section below (I copied it from the linked MSFT document)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2997513
    http://lynclounge.blogspot.com/2014/07/lync-mobility-issues-event-ids-1309.html
    WORKAROUND
    he following procedures must be performed on all Lync Server 2013 FE server and Director Lync 2013 server roles. To
    perform these procedures, first open a command prompt as an administrator.
    Windows Server 2008 R2
    On the Start menu, type cmd.exe in the Windows search feature, and then press Enter.
    Right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.
    Windows Server 2012
    Press the Windows key to access the Start page.
    Use the Windows search feature to locate cmd.exe.
    Right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.
    In the Command Prompt window, follow these steps:
    Navigate to the %install drive%:\Windows\System32\inetsrv> directory prompt.
    Enter the following command, and then press Enter:
    appcmd set config /section:applicationPools /[name='LyncUcwa'].recycling.disallowOverlappingRotation:true
    Enter the following command, and then press Enter:
    appcmd set config /section:applicationPools /[name='LyncUcwa'].processModel.shutdownTimeLimit:0.00:00:30
    To confirm the changes from steps 2–3, enter the following command, and then press Enter:
    appcmd list apppools lyncucwa /config
    The following information should be returned to the console to confirm the update to the LyncUcwa application pool
    settings:
    <add name="LyncUcwa" autoStart="true" managedRuntimeVersion="v4.0" managedPipelneMode="Integrated" startMode="AlwaysRunning">
    <processModel identityType="NetworkService" idleTimeout="00:00:00" shutdownTieLimit="00:00:30" />
    <recycling disallowOverlappingRotation="true">
    <periodicRestart time="00:00:00">
    <schedule>
    </schedule>
    </periodicRestart>
    </recycling>
    <failure />
    <cpu />
    </add>

  • Lync 2013 mobility and external access not working

    Hi all.
    I installed and configured Lync Server 2013 Front End and Lync Server 2013 Edge on Windows Server 2012 R2.
    Internal lync clients (not mobile) can successfully connect to server and everything works fine for them. External users can connect only with manual configuration of address of external lync server in lync client, autodiscovery doesn't work.
    I also installed and configured IIS ARR Reverse Proxy on Windows Server 2012 R2 using this article -
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx. But it doesn't work too. When I try to connect I get 'Unable to connect to the server. Check your network connection or the server address and
    try again'.
    I configured dns records in the external dns zone.
    For Edge:
    sip.extdomain.ru – IP1
    lyncwebconf.extdomain.ru – IP2
    lyncav.extdomain.ru – IP3
    For Reverse Proxy:
    lyncdialin.extdomain.ru - IP4
    lyncmeet.extdomain.ru - IP4
    lyncextweb.extdomain.ru - IP4
    lyncdiscover.extdomain.ru - IP4
    I issued all needed certificates by the internal CA and added following alternative names.
    For FE certificate:
    sip.cherry.loc
    lync.cherry.loc
    dialin.cherry.loc
    meet.cherry.loc
    admin.cherry.loc
    lyncdiscoverinternal.cherry.loc
    lyncdiscover.cherry.loc
    lyncdialin.extdomain.ru
    lyncmeet.extdomain.ru
    lyncextweb.extdomain.ru
    lyncdiscover.extdomain.ru
    For Edge external and Reverse Proxy:
    lyncav.extdomain.ru
    sip.extdomain.ru
    lyncwebconf.extdomain.ru
    lyncdialin.extdomain.ru
    lyncmeet.extdomain.ru
    lyncextweb.extdomain.ru
    lyncdiscover.extdomain.ru
    cherry.loc
    The root certificate of internal CA installed on all servers and client devices.
    Using Wireshark I see that Reverse Proxy communicating with FE on port 4443.
    Here is an excerpt from mobile client log.

  • Start Lync 2010 client on remote machine

    I have a couple of users who like to logout of their Lync 2010 client. They apparently think that they are being watched through this program.  This is a bit of a hassle since we use this program to see if users are sitting at their desk.
    I am trying to write a .bat file to automatically kill the communicator process and then restart the program on the remote machine.  I am having nothing but success with killing the communicator process using pskill.  When attempting to start the
    client using psexec, however, it will not work.
    It will start a new communicator.exe process on the remote computer just fine.  It doesn't seem to actually start the program though.  There is no icon in the taskbar showing the program is running and communication with the user does not work
    as it still shows them offline.
    On the local machine (the one I am running from), I just use a bat file that calls another .bat file on the remote machine.  The .bat file on the remote machine kills all communicator.exe processes using pskill -t.  It then attempts to start a
    new communicator session using "start communicator /fromrunkey"  This will start a new communicator.exe process on the remote computer without any problems. That's all it will do though.
    Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do to make it actually launch the client on the remote computer?  I have exhausted all options I can come up with.  I would like to get this working so the users in question finally figure out that if
    they logout of Lync it is going to just start back up on them.  Hopefully after time they will catch on and stop logging out of the program.

    Have we tried giving the complete location of the communicator.exe
    "start c:/.../communicator.exe /fromrunkey
    Using the same script are you able to open Notepad.exe on the remote machine just for testing

  • Lync 2013 credentials problems on domain computers

    Hi folks,
    We are having trouble with Lync 2013 and credentials on our domain computers. We have been using Office 365 and Outlook for our email for a couple years and it has worked well enough, so recently we decided we wanted to start using Lync as well. We deployed
    the Office 365 Pro Plus suite available to us through our Office 365 subscription and signed in. The first sign-in went as expected. It asked for a username and password, asks if it should remember those credentials for next sign-in (yes), then connects and
    everything with Lync itself functioned normally. Subsequent sign-ins have not been normal.
    When a user restarts their computer and launches Lync it remembers their user name but not their password. Once they type their password in it asks if it should remember those credentials for next sign-in again, then connects. If a user exits and re-launches
    Lync without restarting it remembers their credentials and signs in properly, but then immediately a popup box appears saying that "Credentials are required" in order for Lync to get calendar information from Outlook ( http://i.imgur.com/hqcK426.png
    We know the problem is only happening with computers on our domain, but we don't know why. I tested things out on my home desktop and network by installing Office 365 Pro Plus, setting up Outlook, and then Lync. Both Outlook and Lync auto-discovered everything
    normally after getting my credentials and Lync behaves as expected every time the program launches. I then brought my personal laptop in and tried the same thing on my work network to see if it is network related, but Lync behaves normally on that computer
    as well.
    I originally worked on the problem at the Office 365 Community Forums ( http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/166/t/246014.aspx ), but after we isolated the problem to something with the domain computes I was told that they could not help me any further
    and was referred here. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is keeping Lync from behaving properly on our domain computers? We have a mix of Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8.1 x64 computers, all joined to the same domain and with the same basic suite of software.
    Thanks,
    ~Misharum
    PS: How do I verify my account? The outlook.com email address has been verified, but I don't see anywhere to do verification in my TechNet profile here.

    Yeah, the clients are fully patched. I put a support ticket in through Office 365 and the rep there was able to help me. It ended up being two separate problems.
    Lync was not remembering my credentials to automatically log me in between restarts:
    Installed the latest version of the Microsoft Online Services Sign-In Assistant.
    After signing signing into Lync another popup appeared asking for credentials again to access calendar information. (two steps to solve this one).
    In Active Directory Users and Computers, open up the properties of each affected user, go to the Attribute Editor tab, find and double click the proxyAddress attribute, and add in
    sip:[email protected] where the userid is the user's login name and domain.com is your domain. I'd imagine this is scriptable in PowerShell but I don't know enough to do it.
    Then on the computer that the users will be using, while the user is logged in, add a dword of NoDomainUser = 1 in the registry at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity. The most sensible way to do this in my mind is with a group policy so
    it will get written to each user's registry under their profile when they log in.
    After doing all of this Lync remembered my credentials between restarts, signed me in automatically, and only gave that credentials popup on the first sign-in after applying both changes in step 2.
