Background in fluxbox [solved]

Does anyone know how to set the background in fluxbox? I looked at http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Howto … background but fbsetbg doesn't work for me...

if you are using the new fluxbox (0.9.15.1) then the way backgrounds are set has changed.
from the changelog for 0.9.15
News in 0.9.15:
    * New theme item:
       * background: [texture option]
       * background.pixmap: image filename
       * background.color: [color]
       * background.colorTo: [color]
       The background.pixmap filename will be sent to "fbsetbg"
       which in turn sets the background.
       The following options will be available for the background.pixmap:
         - tiled
         - centered
       For example:
         background: tiled
         background.pixmap: someimage.png
       and it can also generate a normal texture:
         background: gradient
         background.color: blue
         background.colorTo: green
       The rootCommand in the style is now obsolete and if the
       "background" item is not found in the style then the default
       background will be green and with a warning text.
and from 0.9.15.1
News in 0.9.15.1:
   * Removed the green background on styles that are not using
      the new background option.

  • ~/.fluxbox/startup not being executed by fluxbox (SOLVED)

    It doesn't appear that my ~/.fluxbox/startup file is being executed when I run fluxbox.   No matter what I put in, nothing happens.
    Here's my ~/.fluxbox/startup file:
    #!/bin/sh
    fbsetbg -f /home/myuser/backgrounds/ArchBlue.png
    # garbage command for testing
    /usr/bin/asdfasdfadsfadfadsf
    exit 0
    None of the commands I put in this file are executed when I start fluxbox.  Fluxbox starts with no problem, though when I type startx with "exec fluxbox" in my .xinitrc.
    Any ideas why it isn't being executed?

    Well, I got it to work the way it's apparently suppose to work (I think).
    The startfluxbox manpage says that it will create the ~/.fluxbox/startup if one doesn't exist.  So, I deleted the original one (which was created when I first installed and ran fluxbox for the first time I think) and then ran exec startfluxbox from my .xinitrc again.
    It re-created a new ~/.fluxbox/startup file that was completely different than the old one (namely, it had "exec fluxbox" at the end of it).  So, startfluxbox worked with the newly created startup file.  But, the fbsetbg command in the newly created ~/.fluxbox/startup file wasn't setting the background image (it would appear for a second and disappeared).  Following iphitus's advice, I addded '&' after.
    And now, everything works.  The default startup file created by startfluxbox is kind of nice - lots of examples that are commented out by default.  However, their fbsetbg example wasn't working until I added the '&' as mentioned before.
    Thanks iphitus and ScriptDevil for the suggestions and help.
    Cheers.

  • Fluxbox [solved]

    So far, I have installed the base packages of arch from ftp, changed the hostname, changed eth0 to dhcp, pacman -Sy xorg, pacman -Sy hwd, hwd -xa, pacman -Sy fluxbox, and updated hostname in /etc/hosts. at this point, startfluxbox gives the error...
    failed to set locale, reverting to "c"
    terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::string'
    /root/.fluxbox/startup: line 12: 1944 aborted              /usr/bin/sbsetroot -solid black
    warning: failed to set locale, reverting to "C"
    error: couldn't connect to XServer
    Anyone know where I went wrong?

    okay - i started over and used the following steps...
    1. install arch off 0.7.1 ftp base installation (all packages in base), changing timezone, hostname, and eth0 (to dhcp) in /etc/rc.conf and localhost in /etc/hosts.
    2. reboot
    3. passwd
    4. pacman -Sy xorg
    5. pacman -Sy hwd
    6. hwd -xa
    7. pacman -Sy fluxbox
    8. add "exec startfluxbox" to /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
    9. adduser tony
    10. log in as tony
    11. startx
    at this point, i see the screen resolution change to 1024x768 for a second and go black - it looks like its going to work but then i get kicked back into bash and see several messages. among these is a "no matching section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:0) found /home/tony/.xinitrc: line 9: exec: wmaker: not found"

  • SOLVED Fluxbox and Nitrogen problem

    Ok so I've tried many ways to set my background in Fluxbox. I try not to ask for help but this is really frustrating me. So I installed nitrogen, went to the directory my background is at, and hit apply, and it worked. So then I went to my  ~/.fluxbox/startup  file and added in "nitrogen --restore &" like below. However it didn't work. I really want this to work, I spent a large amount of time earlier today trying to get fbsetbg to work, then trying to get feh to work, none of it worked for me.
    # Applications you want to run with fluxbox.
    # MAKE SURE THAT APPS THAT KEEP RUNNING HAVE AN ''&'' AT THE END.
    # unclutter -idle 2 &
    # wmnd &
    # wmsmixer -w &
    # idesk &
    nitrogen --restore &
    # And last but not least we start fluxbox.
    # Because it is the last app you have to run it with ''exec'' before it.

    Not necessarily.
    Do any other apps you put in ~/.fluxbox/startup run?
    Check /usr/share/xsessions/fluxbox.desktop and make sure it says "exec startfluxbox" and not just "exec fluxbox"
    I'm starting fluxbox from .xinitrc with "exec startfluxbox" and if I set wallpaper with feh, this works in my ~/.fluxbox/startup file:
    eval $(cat ~/.fehbg)
    and if I set wallpaper with nitrogen, this works:
    nitrogen --restore
    (edit) -- as ewaller says, have you set a wallpaper with nitrogen? "nitrogen --restore" won't work unless you do...

  • Error in triggering background job

    HI, I've been facing an error which a background job is being scheduled. The scenario is something like this ...
    1) A third party schedulling system triggers a SAP job and monitors the progress
    2) In SAP, the master job is been copied with a different user name and then released for processing.
    3) There are multiple jobs which get triggered but there is one job which is causing a problem.
    4) The job makes a copy an stays in a scheduled status without getting released. While i try to manually release the job it give me an error that cannot create record in the database.
    5) Upon checking the system log it gives me this -  Error: INSERT background sched. table(job $$$$).
    There is already an entry for the specified job in the table TBTCS.
    6) While checking the TBTCS table i've found multiple entries out there. Should this table be empty or have information about the runtime of this job.
    Please help as this background job is causing concerns in archiving processess defined.
    Thankx in advance for your help.

  • White background missing

    I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro and recently noticed that when I create a pdf the white background is missing, the file looks like an unflattened psd. I've looked in the preferences and don't see any obvious setting to check/uncheck, any suggestions?

    ...no that's one of the first things that I checked for, turns out there's a pull-down menu that allows you to add or remove the background which has solved the problem.

  • Remove finder backgrounds in OS X Lion

    How can I remove a finder background from the view options in Finder?  The background options are grayed out and I can't click on white or color or picture.  I'd like to go back to a basic white or color background.

    The only way I found to fix this is to save a white background at high res, then drag it to the small square to change the background. Problem solved ! ! !
    If you want to change it to any color go to another folder other that " all files " and select what you want.
    Good luck.

  • Hacking conky's own_window_type desktop to run on one virtual desktop

    Since I have no dual screen setup (just a laptop) I'd like to use my virtual desktops to run different conky instances on (almost) every virtual desktop. I tried to accomplish this by using own_window_type normal in conky, and that works - until I call the desktop, then it just minimises like a regular app. That's not what I want.
    People in #conky suggested I use the if_match functionality in conky, so I can keep using the own_window_type desktop setting, but that does not solve my issue since you cannot define different conky window sizes in one configuration file. I checked in with #openbox and they told me essentially Conky should not display on every virtual desktop (and frankly they have a point, since you can tell e.g. Openbox to sticky an app on every virtual desktop). However, one would need to hack the code for that (specifically the stuff that takes care of putting the desktop window type on every virtual desktop). That's where you guys come in, since my C knowledge is close to non-existent .
    I was told to look at x11.c and specifically the init_window() function but I'm at loss where to start...

    I guess this is one of the important bits:
    switch (window.type) {
    case TYPE_DESKTOP:
    prop = ATOM(_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DESKTOP);
    fprintf(stderr, PACKAGE_NAME": window type - desktop\n");

    break;
    Reading the NET_WM spec (which all major WMs use as the standard more or less) does not tell me anything meaningful (at least not for me ):
    _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DESKTOP indicates a desktop feature. This can include a single window containing desktop icons with the same dimensions as the screen, allowing the desktop environment to have full control of the desktop, without the need for proxying root window clicks.
    If anyone could tell me what to replace, that would be great .

    Hi lewisspindlove,
    Thanks for your input,
    it doesn't happen when i have my desktop in a "single picture" mode, and,
    it doesn't happen on other accounts, because besides mine(Admin), there is only
    the Guest account and this does not occur on that account.
    I tried your method of removing the wallpapers folder from Libary, then I
    noticed that the computer will select ANY image which I last used when in
    "single picture" mode, not "Change picture every 5mins" mode.
    For example, let's say I have a picture which I saved in the Documents folder,
    and I use that in "single picture" mode; after which I revert back to the folder which contains the pictures I want for "Change picture every 5mins" mode (which is stored somewhere else).
    If i go to the Login window & log back in again, the computer selects the picture
    I last used (the one in the Documents folder) as my background, BUT, after 5mins the picture changes to the ones I'm using for "Change picture every 5mins".
    I hope I'm not confusing everyone!
    This is a complicated & weird but ANNOYING problem!
    Any ideas if an Archive & Install would help? Does that erase all of my stored data on my HDD?

  • Issue with Reminders not working when setting it to arrive or leave a location in iOS7.

    Hi all,
       Tried everything: Called support and reset All setting.  Made sure all "location settings" are set.  Restored via iTunes as a new phone, checked all setting again, set a reminder to remind me to get gas when I leave my home, and it never reminded me.  Also, doesn't remind when I arrive at a location.  I have tried this with my wifes phone (iPhone 5) and my daughters (iPhone 4) all running iOS7 and it doesn't work.  I never had this issue with iOS6. All other locations services like GPS, maps, & weather working fine.  I strongly believe it's a iOS7 bug. Has anyone else experianced this issue?

    In case you haven't seen this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5329723
    Jump to page 5. There is a solution by ben812 that initially worked for me, but after restarting my phone I was back to square one.
    I visited the local Genius Bar, and they claim they have not heard of this problem. Whether that is true or not, they know now. One of the employees confirmed that WiFi would need to be on, as the location service checks it first (before using GPS). Seems like a bug, but for now having WiFi on and leaving Reminders running in the background seems to solve the issue.
    I hope Cupertino addresses this in an upcoming iOS release.

  • Archiving message in Adapter Engine in XI 3.0

    Dear all,
    Could you please explain the procedure of Archiving Messages in Adapter Engine in XI 3.0.
    I have read many blogs regarding deleting messages in Adapter Engine, but nowhere i can see about Archiving.
    I have been told that activating and scheduling "Default Version Archive Job" in RWB->Components->Adapter Engine->Background Processing would solve the purpose.
    But while activating, i am unale to set rules, as it gives error " Rules are not allowed for jobs with set 'archive edited messages only' flag."

    Have you solved the issue?
    The same thing happens to me. The map details are gone, I just see the pin on a blank background. It happens on apple maps, google maps, waze, garmin. I zoomed out and the maps shows that im in Nigeria which is about 5000miles away from me
    Ive checked my location, tried checking on wifi and nothing worked.
