Binding JTextField to a model bean

trying to wrap my head around the idea of binding a JTextField to a bean value...but I'm getting an illegal state exception. I think I understand why, but I want to make sure.
1) the user enters a name in the name field
2) the field's doc Listener calls model.setName( field.getText() )
3) the model updates it's property field and fires a change event
4) the view that called the model's setter hears the change event
5) the propertyChange method does:
field.setText( changeEvent.getNewValue() )
you'll get an IllegalStateException, I assume because the setText( ) will invoke a setter on the model just like it did when the user entered some data, but the current change event hasn't finished yet
seems awful dirty to have to do the following in the propertyChange method:
if( ! foo.getText().equals(model.getFoo())){
     foo.setText((String)evt.getNewValue());
am I missing something?

When you use the DynamicResource markup extension, the UI will update when the resource does.
<Window.Resources>
<sys:String x:Key="Name">name</sys:String>
</Window.Resources>
<MenuItem Header="{DynamicResource Name}"/>
<Button Content="Change header dynamically" Click="Button_Click_1"/>
private void Button_Click_1(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) {
this.Resources["Name"] = "nombre";
The only other options are to bind to dependency properties:
<MenuItem Header="{Binding SomeDependencyProperty}"/>
..or binding to a property of an object that implements the INotifyPropertyChanged and raises the PropertyChanged event.
..or update the refresh the bindings manually using the UpdateTarget() method:
var be = menuItem.GetBindingExpression(MenuItem.HeaderProperty);
be.UpdateTarget();
These are your (only) options.

    mudebao,
    Looks like you are using a java.util.HashMap somewhere in your model, and that hash map is being modified by more than one user/thread at the same time...
    [url http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/HashMap.html]Documentation for java.util.HashMap says:
    Note that this implementation is not synchronized. If multiple threads access this map concurrently, and at least one of the threads modifies the map structurally, it must be synchronized externally.You need to use something other than a hash map.

  • Can i Bind more than one Model object to the Custom controller or not

    Hi All, I trying to bind more than one model object to the custom controller, Both the model objects contains same attribute name called ( output). Both model objects created on to top of the BAPI. So when i bind first model object to the custom controller will work fine. When i am trying to bind the second model object to the same controller. This second model object also having the same attribute name called "output" . So it is giving an error of "Duplicate context element "Detail". Rename or uncheck duplicate elements.
    can i assign more than one model object to the single controller or not?
    But in the reference document, it has given that , we can create model object with more than one bapi.So in this case if both the bapis contains any element with the same name will also be problem. Any body give me the solution.
    Initially we have created one custom controller for each model object. But later i realized that, why con't we use same controller for all the model object. Because, the custom controller context is the public context. this context shared across all the view controllers.
    The concept which I am trying to do is right or wrong?

    Hi Vishal,
    of course, you can bind one controler to many models. When the same name occours you can simply RENAME binded node in controler.

    Bogdan

    Am really new to java programming and have interest in learning

    The standard JDK doesn't do this for you. If you search on Google, you may find some 3rd party packages that will do this.
    You need to create your own form add execute the appropriate SQL yourself. Read the tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/]JDBC Database Access to get started.

    Thanks for the help, this Iterator is coming from the BPM, so rows and attributes should be there, I am able to fetch the rows and attribute in my bean as I updated.

  • Do we write one model bean for every JSF UI page?

    First, Please excuse my minimal knowledge in JSF, I am just starting to crawl :)
    Is my understanding about JSF that you will be writing one model bean class for every JSP page you have, CORRECT? (this is just my understanding, I may be wrong)
    This will be getting hard for large application.
    Ideal scenario: Say you have a JSP page A.jsp to associate an action reference you write a model bean class and have appropriate get method to return an Action object.
    Can we write an Action class, separated from the model bean class. I tried to create 2 different packages and one which just had a simple model bean and the other package had a Action class. I was not able to get this working as it was bouncing back with a Method innovation/Illegal argument exceptions. I am very confused here is it a necessity to write the action method in model bean or can we separate it? If we can separate it can we package it in to different packages?
    I may be confusing in explaining my questions but to put it black and white
    A)
    1 JSP Page (uses JSF components) = 1 model bean class (?)
    or
    B)
    1..n JSP pages (uses JSF components) = 1 or may be 2 model bean class (?)
    If B is possible how do we get the action classes towards this architecture and how can we get access to the various model bean objects in a single action class.
    Sorry for my vagueness....
    Thanks
    Ram

    In the particular case of your separate Action class,
    you still need a getter method for it somewhere. I
    find it easiest to include this getter in the same
    model bean that contains the data, but it doesn't have
    to be. Craig,
    It seems to be the consensus that a getter is required, but I've had perfect luck registering a single Action class in the application scope:
    <managed-bean>
      <managed-bean-name>fooAction</managed-bean-name>
      <managed-bean-class>org.bar.FooAction</managed-bean-class>
      <managed-bean-scope>application</managed-bean-scope>
    </managed-bean>And then referencing it directly:
    <h:command_button commandName="foo" actionRef="fooAction"/>This feels more like the Struts approach to me, as there's a single instance available. (If I wanted thread saftey, however, I could declare it in the request scope instead). I use this approach when there's no data associated with the Action (like a LogoutAction).

  • Had a Search Criteria and the result as table in header.Wanted to bind the result table to bean for the key value access

      Had Search Criteria and the result is displayed in the table in a panel header .  I want to get the selected  row value and parse the value to next Vo in next page for a bind variable . So i need to handle the  tbale value by biniding to the bean , but there was no option to bind the table for a bean.So how can i get the value selected .
    Regards,
    K M Krishna.

    First of all tell us your jdev version, please.
    to get to the selected row you don't need to bind the table to a managed bean. You can e.g. drag the needed attributes from the VO onto the page and drop them as inputText components. the Framework then generated the attribute bindings and sets the values of the current row to them. As you don't really need the inputText components switch to source mode (!this is essential!) and remove them. This will remove the visual component but the attribute bindings are kept.
    Know you can access the values via their EL or like you get the value from an attribute via it's binding.

  • How to set List and Tree Binding Value manually from backing bean?

    Dear All,
    I somehow found this code to work so that I could set a value on my bindings from a managed bean.
      public void setBindingExpressionValue(String expression, Object value)
        FacesContext facesContext = getFacesContext();
        Application app = facesContext.getApplication();
        ExpressionFactory elFactory = app.getExpressionFactory();
        ELContext elContext = facesContext.getELContext();
        ValueExpression valueExp =
          elFactory.createValueExpression(elContext, expression, Object.class);
        valueExp.setValue(elContext, value);
      public class MyBean{
      private String employeeId;
      public void inAmethod(){
           setBindingExpressionValue("#{bindings.employeeId.inputValue}",
                                         getEmployeeId());
      }Now, I am thinking. What if I have a List or Tree Binding in my managed bean then how or what should I send
    to the expression value. Is it a List or Map?
    The first one was easy as it is just a string but how about when dealing with collection?
    JDEV 11g PS4
    Thanks

    Hi,
    a tree binding does not set the value of the tree but determines the selected node. The binding itself represents the collection model that shows the hierarchical tree structure. So your question does not apply to a tree

  • Binding component's instance to bean property

    I'm trying to bind a dataTable to an array of objects in a JavaBean. But I don't understand how the UIData object in my JavaBean gets created. I see the "setter" gets called from the binding attribute in the dataTable element, but it's not actually being populated with my data (it gets populated with a UIData object, HtmlDataTable, with 0 rows. But my object has rows).
    <h:dataTable id="licenseTable"
                 styleClass="Detail"
                 binding="#{searchBean.licenseTable}"
                 value="#{searchBean.licenses}"
                 var="license">
    </h:dataTable>In the "searchBean" JavaBean I have the following:
      private UIData licenseTable = null;
      private License[] licenseArray = null;
      public UIData getLicenseTable()
        return licenseTable;
      public void setLicenseTable(UIData table)
        this.licenseTable = table;
      public License[] getLicenses()
        return licenseArray;
      }Do I manually create the UIData object? From the examples I've seen, that doesn't appear to be the case. But I don't see how it works.
    Thanks.

    I'll try to answer your question, although, to be honest I'm not 100% sure that it will be correct. Perhaps a more experienced poster can correct me if I'm wrong.
    I think that local values and component values are the same thing. Model values are the properties of the managed bean. There is a third category, which is submitted values.
    - Submitted Values are the values which are read right off the HTTP parameters. In essence, they are the HTTP parameters.
    - Local Values (or Component Values) These are the properties of the component. They are set from the submitted value during Apply_Request_Values phase.
    - Model Values are the properties of a managed bean. These are set during the Update_Model_Values phase from the local values after being converted and validated during the Process_Validations phase.
    I hope that helps, again, I am not completely sure if this is correct.

  • Using bind variables in the model view for master detail

    Hi all,
    I have a master-detail views setup on the following two queries.
    In the first query below - I use two bind variables to collect the start and end date.
    you have to add (and :startDate = :startDate and :endDate = :endDate) or you will get errors - bind not defined in sql
    I then use the viewQueryCriteria to collect the data on a search panel - so far so good. (Make the bind variables required) along with the other criteria.
    The bind variables are displayed in the search panel and the data is entered correctly.
    The query executes and all is happy.
    VIEWOBJECT1
    SELECT DepositAccounts.COA_ID,
    ... ChartOfAccounts.ACCOUNT_CODE || ' ' || ChartOfAccounts.ACCOUNT_TITLE as description
    FROM DEPOSIT_ACCOUNTS DepositAccounts, DEPOSIT_ACCOUNT_DETAILS DepositAccountDetails, CHART_OF_ACCOUNTS ChartOfAccounts
    WHERE DepositAccounts.ID = DepositAccountDetails.DEP_ACC_ID
    and ChartOfAccounts.id = DepositAccountDetails.COA_ID
    and :startDate = :startDate and :endDate = :endDate
    Now I add the summation of a value (AMOUNT) to the view object (java - create view impl) to the VOViewRowImpl
    and everything works - the value is shown in the transient attribute formatted and looking nice.
    VIEWOBJECT2
    SELECT PostingBatchAccounts.AMOUNT,
    FROM POSTING_BATCH_ACCOUNTS PostingBatchAccounts, POSTING_BATCHES PostingBatches
    where PostingBatchAccounts.PB_ID = PostingBatches.ID
    and PostingBatches.SOURCE_DATE between :startDate and :endDate
    Now I need to add the start date and end date to the child query - before the view executes (or the summation is calculated).
    The attributes are in the where clause (PostingBatches.SOURCE_DATE between :startDate and :endDate) in VIEWOBJECT2 which is the child.
    I need the child records and the summation to work with the date restrictions.
    I would assume you could get access to the child view in the VOViewImpl file and set the bind variables there.
    Everything I find is based on the JSF - not the model layer - this should be fairly easy (and common). can anyone give me a hand on this?

  • Model Bean Importer fails for superclasses?

    Hello,
    I am trying to import a bean model into webdynpro. The top class of my structured bean model fails to import if it extends a superclass. I tried different ways, even with a very simple base superclass but keep failing to import.
    Instead, bean classes that implemet interfaces get imported properly in the model and interfaces are automatically imported.
    Is there anybody that can give advice? I need my bean model to extend a superclass since I want to "hide" out some internal methods from the pure bean model and write them only once in the base superclass.
    I am on DeveloperStudio SP13
    Regards

    Hello Valery,
    I solved by myself after some more attempts. The problem in generating the model from a javabean appears if the bean class contains references to other custom classes that are not visible by the model wizard, no matter if you add them to the webdynpro project as project references or java build path libs, they are stil not considered by the wizard. So I worked out to build the model from a jar (located in another project) that contains all classes.
    My case:
    Class R located in a deployable library project.
    Class R is referenced in webdynpro project
    BeanSuperClass A internally uses Class R
    BeanClass B extends A
    Wizard fails generating model for either A or B.
    The pitty is that the model wizard does tell why it fails. It would be grate and much simpler if the model wizard could take into consideration the build path of the project where the model is being generated so that we can keep bean classes properly separated from other general purpose stuff.
    BTW Thanks for the hint and regards,
    Vitaliano

  • Bind a UiComponent to manage bean

    Hi
       jdeveloper 11.1.1.7
    i need to refresh a inputText programatically .so
    How can i assign a inputText to  UiComponent in the managed bean ?
    thanks

    The parameter you pass to the addPartialTarget method is indeed the java representation of a ui component. In your code I miss the component you want to refresh.
    The normal way to get the component reference is to look it up in the page structure by its id. For this you can use e.g.
    Edwin Biemond's blog http://biemond.blogspot.com/2009/11/find-uicomponent-in-adf-task-flow.html
    Binding the component directly to the bean is only a possibility if the beans memory scope is request.

  • Cannot bind makit chart to model

    HI Expert
    It works if I bind a chart to a model. e.g. oChart.setModel(model);
    However if I use a model name, it will not work e.g. oChart.setModel(model, 'example');
    Here is the jsbin.
    Can someone shed some lights on this?
    Thanks
