Bitmap rounded area transparency

I need to slide an image over another image. The bottom image is a picture. The top image is a ring with a thick solid border. I want to move the ring over the image like a magnifying glass. My problem is how do I make the ring have a transparent circular area so when it moves it shows the image below?
I was planning to use bitmap threshold() but it the sourceRect (e.g. the area for transparency) parameter is rectangular. Does anyone know if this will work with a rounded rectangle? Or is there some other trick I should look at.
Thanks
public function threshold(sourceBitmapData:BitmapData, sourceRect:Rectangle, destPoint:Point, operation:String, threshold:uint, color:uint = 0, mask:uint = 0xFFFFFFFF, copySource:Boolean = false):uint

I believe transparency is unsupported, although not specifically listed:

  • How do I add a second layer mask to turn more areas transparent?

I can't get this to work, and I haven't been able to find a post specifically for this question.  I applied a layer mask to a photograph to take out part of the background, that is, make it transparent.  I would like to add several more masks to make more areas transparent.  But when I add a second mask, it hides the first one, and the first one hides it. If I turn off either level, and I can see the transparent portion for the other level, but when both layers are visible, all of the transparent sections are covered.
It seems to be there ought to be a simple way to do this.  Perhaps it is possible to combine all the selected transparency layers into one mask?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks, Scott!  I'm not exactly sure how to use groups, but this is a good reason to figure it out.
I also figured out a kludgy way to do it.  I make transparent the part of one layer that is blocking the transparency of the others.  As long as I don't have a lot of layers do to that way, it works okay.  It's a pain, though.
    Thanks for the help!

You will need a fix for IE6 and below, but apart from that
    give it a go,
    its much better than gifs.

  • Pull down menus are transparent and empty squres where maybe a pix should be. What's happening with that?? Thx..Dave

The entire webpage seems empty and colorless. When I roll over a square or something that is empty, I get the "hand" as if there is something in there that I should click on. All the pull down menus are transparent and hard to read against the background. I tried the same web site on IE and everything is good. It seems as if half of the Browser is loaded. The updates had no affect. My email site is a drab and dreary place that I use the Mac email instead. I remember on my old HP with Firefox it was great. And so was Thunderbird. What can I do??
    Thx....Dave

What happens if you use a theme which changes all the background colours, so that no system colours are used?

  • Corners and overlaps in vector paths are transparent upon export

    Hello,
I am tasked with using Illustrator and Flash to develop skins for Flex (CS3). I have managed to work through the process, but the when the paths on custom graphics are exported into Flex, corners and points of intersection where two paths or parts of the same path cross are transparent. For example, if I drew an X, there would be a clear spot at the intersection. If I drew a O, there would be a little clear spot where the points on the path overlapped. If I drew a Z, the corners on the letter will have clear spots .
The problem occurs in Flex, and then also persists in the various browsers. It happens on my Apple and on my Mac.
How do I prevent this? Is there some transformation I can do in Illustrator to prevent this?
    Thank you for your help.

You can try a few things.
Use the 3-way color corrector in FCP to bring the white levels under 90%.
If all your text is on the same horizontal plane make sure it's on an even number
Add a .25 blur to the graphics
    use the de-interlace filter

Hi, I have a problem with fonts because in the window I can't see the font, they are transparent. how can I fix this?

    giadad,
    It sounds as this issue:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:

  • Dvd subtitles are transparent

When I play a dvd on my laptop, the subtitles are transparent. I can barely see them.
I downloaded another program to play dvd's and had the same problem with the subtitles. So I'm assuming this is a setting.
I put the dvd in my G5 and was able to see nice white titles. Both computer (G4 & G5) have the same OS, and the same version of "dvd player". The only difference is I have QT version 7 on the computer with the problem, and version 6 on the computer that shows the subtitles.
Does anyone know if this is a setting in Quicktime?
    Any advise would be appreciated.

  • Making specific areas transparent

Hi, I'm running Premiere Elements 7.
Is it possible to erase parts of a video frame, without using keying?
The video I have has a colour mixture that won't lend itself to simple keying, or cropping, so I'd like to make certain areas transparent manually.
It would be even better to have a soft border on this, similar to what can be done in Photoshop to a still image with the eraser tool.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks, Andy

The best way to do this is with the Track Matte or one of the Garbabe Mattes.
Yes, they're keying effects -- but what you're describing is keying, by definition.

  • Android bitmaps have slightly transparent bounding box?

    Hi all,
We have just released a game to iOS and Android markets today, compiled with AIR3.2.
On the Android version, on all devices, we notice that all bitmaps (with transparency) have a slight alpha (estimate maybe 5%) white bounding box - this does not happen on iOS.
Every bitmap that is not a solid colour - so that means ALL sprites, background tiles, buttons etc - look like they are sitting on top of a 5% white box.
We use bitmap.draw to draw a MovieClip to a bitmap for all the sprites.
Has anybody come across this before and know why this is happening?
    Cheers,
    Peter

use inline styling in an html snippet:
    <img style=="border:0" src="/image/location/pic.ext" alt="borderless image" />
Remove one of the equal signs '=' from the style so that it looks like style="border:0"
I added two equal signs because when properly written the forum script rewrites the code to look like style="#"

  • Anchored objects are transparent

Thanks in advance for the help. I am using CS5.
I have a document were multiple anchored objects ended up overlapping each other. My problem is that the anchored objects have a transparency set to them that I cannot remove. Things to note:
The transparency goes away if I release the anchored object.
I have an object style assigned to the anchored frames, but there are style overrides that I cannot clear on the anchored objects.
Changes I make to the object style assigned to the anchored objects have no effect. Only the "anchored objects options" attributes box will modify the anchored objects.
Any help with this issue would be great. Thanks!

You Sir, are an absolute genious! It makes absolute and perfect sence, but I guess that's what they mean by "Hindsight is 20/20."
    Thanks again!

  • Why are transparent parts of ID file turning to gray in PDF?

The transparent parts of my InDesign files are going to gray boxes (x-ray looking) around them.  I have done hundreds, if not thousands of PDF's from ID without an issue and all of a sudden this is happening. Though I have already figured out and used a jpeg work-around for now, I am still searching for the answer as to WHY this is happening all of a sudden, without any updates or changes on my end. WHY??? Can anyone else can shed a light on this?  Thanks.

I guess the question is, has a recent automatic update in Adobe software (this happens in Illustrator CS5.5, too) created a change in how PDF's are processed through their software?  Nothing I have done is different or has been reset...have used all of the software since it's creation, so I'm not a novice whatsoever.  It appears that any shape that is created using the transparency/gradient feature in the software turns to gray in the PDF's when using the save as PDF internal software feature in every configuration (then opens in Acrobat Pro...not Apple Preview, which has it's issues).  This has nothing to do with jpegs or anything else that is placed in the file (my reference to jpegs in my question is how I wound up saving the original file so everything would be flattened).  This work around is not a solution for me.b I am trying to find out if I am stuck with this because of Adobe software updates or something changed recently.  I am not the only person that has posted this issue on the web, but wanted to go straight to Adobe experts to see if anyone could shed any light on it.  Thanks for your time.

  • Certain objects are transparent in flash movie

I've been getting reports from users that certain objects are invisible in my flash banner. The browser culprit is IE 8 (but someone also reported seeing this in IE 6). I have been unable to duplicate this and therefore, find it very difficult to troubleshoot. I do have the Wmode set to transparent, but I've made it opaque and still had the "invisible" reports. Here is the site:
    http://tekkytoys.com
The objects reported as invisible are the robot's body and head. If someone out there can see this and give me a clue, it would be very helpful.
    Thanks!
    Mark

First guess here is that some elements may require a certain version of the player, and they don't have it!

  • Placed Images are transparent, only the outline can be seen, HELP!

I have been producing a brochure over the last couple of days and all has been fine with placing my images but yesterday afternoon when I tried to place a new image, the image becomes transparent and all I can see is the outline of the image and the other content on the page can be seen within this outline.
I have tried to restart indesign a few times, have looked into the different settings on the flattener preview, have changed the display performance settings, any other suggestions would please be more than welcome!
    Thank you
    Chloé

If the image is from Photoshop with a clipping path, open it in Photoshop and examine the path. What you describe sounds like something that has a clipping path made from a selection of white space around an inner object, but the selection was not set to inverse before converting to a vector path. Instead of clipping out the white area surrounding the center item, the item was clipped. Just a guess, but have a look.

  • What is causing a- new message "area/transparent thing" at bottom

    Hello:
I dont know what to call the thing I am seeing on my screen. [please see screenshot.]
It has just started to appear in last 3 days. I upgraded to 34.0.5 and it is still there.
How do I determine why it is now showing or what is causing it to show?
It happens on all web pages. Its like a new style pop up (but i have pop-up option turned OFF) so i dont think its a pop-up as such.
But it appears after a while, It is transparent. Has no information other than a x in a circle and close.
So just annoying to have to keep closing it all the time.
    Any ideas
    thankyou
