Call voice quality

Good Morning, I have just bought Iphone 5s, and some times when I call the reciever complain of sound quality, low and shallow, also my screen blinks for few times. i had same problem with iphone 4 s. althoiugh I am hearing other parties very clear.

first comment, I would remove the attachment and re-add it without the passwords in it, and maybe even mask the ip addresses out. Security and all that.
Second, you have a pretty complete QoS architecture.
Since you labeled the serial interface as being an AT&T IPFR, I can comment that diffserv based Qos is honored on that network, but you do have to request it from AT&T. There is a posibility that AT&T is delaying your carefully tagged traffic.
Lastly, we have found that allowing bursting on frame circuits is a sure fire way to have poor quality. We spec the port and PVC to match eaxactly or as close to exactly as the carrier will allow.
Since you are not apparently using IOS conference resources, my comment about SCCP/TOS may not apply.
What are you using for conferencing, Call Manager resources, VG200 or catalyst DSP blades? Are your remote sites using G729? Is so, where are your transcoders?

  • IPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Got the new iPhone 5 and have bad phone call quality. The recipient of the call seems to be able to hear me ok, but their voice either isn't there or drops out or sounds grainy like when you have bad cell reception. Many times, the calls have just not connected. I know that that my cell reception and the recipients cell reception were excellent. This has occured when calling other cell phones, land lines, and toll free numbers. Anyone else having this issue? Have an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to see what they think.

    PROBLEM IDENTIFIED (..maybe)
Update: Have not gone to the AT&T store yet, but was trying out some tests and think LTE is causing the problem. I am in an LTE capable area (Outside Washington DC). When I disabled LTE in the cellular settings, the phone calls sound clear. When I enabled the LTE in the settings, the majority of the time, I was having the bad voice call quality. Not sure if this would happen on Verizon network too, but could you try it out and see if you have the same results? If anyone else trys this test out, let me know your results.
As an aside, My brother who lives in a non-LTE capable area has had no issues with call quality. Could be coincidence, but hope I have pinpointed the problem.

  • Really freaky problem with mic voice quality on calls

With my old headphones getting, well, too old, I decided to buy new ones, and so I did. The problem is, when I tried using them, my friends told me (while laughing non-stop) that it sounded like I was speaking from afar and with the typical headphones of fast food restaurants workers that make your voice sound weird.I thought it was the headphone's fault, so I changed them today, but the exact same thing happened. I thought maybe it was cuz my old ones worked on a USB connection, and the 2 new ones with a jack cable, but a friend told me it didn't make any sense and, furthermore, I tried calling him on Skype and he actually could hear me perfectly! Then I went to try again with my friends and, for them, it still sounded insanely weird as always (disclaimer: no, they are not pulling my leg). I disabled the automatic configuration of mic in audio configuration, played with the slider, whatever I could see in the options. I'm completely bewildered because I don't even know if what's happening is a problem, an incompatibility of my PC with jack headphones, or what's going on.I would appreciate any sort of insight.

Hey there, Skymoose! I'm glad to see that you're managing your device. No, I can't say that clearing the cache would impact your voice quality. The cache is merely a temporary memory storage function. Do you use a headset of any kind with your device? If so, does this issue occur with and without the headset?

  • IPhone 5s Call Sound Quality

Hey- I have a brand new iPhone 5s with AT&T and I've noticed that the call sound quality is worse than my old iPhone 4. The call sound is more muffled and a lot less crisp. Is this a common issue or is it just my phone? Thank you!

When I hold my iPhone 5S in my left hand to my left ear the sound is muffled. I remember Steve Jobs saying you're holding it wrong. Although this had nothing to do with the problem we're having now it got me to thinking. I looked at my hand holding the iPhone my thumb was on the left edge with my to two Center fingers on the right edge. My index finger was up close to the noise canceling mic on the back of the phone and my palm was down by the regular mic.  I could see as I talked the voice could hit my palm travel up my hand to my index finger which was close to the microphone on the back.
I called my wife on the house phone using my iPhone 5S. She said that my voice was muffled. I took my index finger away from the microphone and moved it next to my two Center fingers on the right side of the phone. This moved my palm away from the microphone at the bottom. I did this while she stayed on the line. She said that now she could hear me clearly. I then moved my index finger to completely cover the back microphone. Once again she said that the sound was still good. I then moved my index finger a small amount away from the microphone and she said that my voice was muffled again.
I believe that the way I was holding my hand acted as a megaphone to the noise canceling microphone in the back. The noise canceling microphone thought my voice was noise and was suppressing it.
I work in a noisy environment, so I like the idea of the noise canceling microphone. Going to the settings and turning off the noise canceling microphone or putting a small piece of tape over the microphone is really not a good option for me.
For now I will use this new way of holding the phone until Apple can fix this issue.

  • Bluetooth voice quality - LG Cosmos 2

Frustrated and wondering where to start.  New car (Honda CR-V) and new phone (Cosmos 2.)  Bought the phone solely because my original (very old) phone wouldn't "pair" with the new car's bluetooth.  The Cosmos has gotten past that, makes & receives calls, phonebook has been imported and everything works fine except for one (major) thing:  The outbound (phone user's) voice quality is horrible.  All garbled, almost not understandable to anyone on the other end.  Inbound voice (played through the car's speakers) is fine.  So where do I start?  I'm anticipating that Verizon will tell me it's a Honda problem and Honda will tell me it's a Verizon problem.  I'll almost bet on it.  Any solid, unbiased advice on what is actually likely to be the problem, and how to fix it?  Thanks.

You would test outbound voice quality using just the phone not Bluetooth from the same locations to determine if the problem is with the phone and Vzw service OR if you only experience the problem when connected by BlueTooth wireless and thus the built-in mic in the Honda.

  • H323-Voice-Quality explanation

I understand that the h323-voice-quality VSA conveys the calculated ICPIF factor, which is supposed to be a positive integer. However, on many occasions, this VSA contains the value "-1" or "h323-voice-quality=-1"(In fact, it appears in some examples of this very web site). What is the meaning in this case? Clearly, it can't be used but there must be some reasoning behind it that I'd like to know. Same goes for the value "0", which is unrealistic when codecs other than G.711 are being used, and for any ICPIF value over 50.

The value should be in from 0 - 34 not -1.This should be calculated from the icpif for the call. Two caveats with
this value. First is that it relies on rtcp (which for example our ip phones do not support). The second is that the call needs to be longer than 10 second in duration. If neither of these conditions are true, you should expect it not to be set; or as shown as -1.
As a workaround try upgradig the IOS to the latest one.

  • Call sound quality poor

Hi, I've a problem with all calls audio. I've tried to setting all in menu, but the quality audio during call of this phone is very poor with or without headphones. Before update of 4.4.4 the solution was disable ClearAudio+, but with this release audio is terrible without flag on CA+.I've tried another new SIM but with the same results. Call audio quality is very similar to walkie-talkie. When other people talk i ear a background disturb...

Same problem here...Except I didn't tested with disabled features.I tried three different mobile providers because I thougt this could be the problem. But when I insert the same sim card into an old feature-phone there are no problems. The problem is described by the receiver of my call. They tell me they hear my voice broken.

  • Call/Network Quality Android

Background. I had a basic phone and an android tablet. I upgraded the phone to a Galaxy III. I liked the android OS and the data plan and networking of the phone seemed to work fine. The very first call I made with the phone had voice quality problems. We chalked it up to loud city street. That phone never did work well in a voice call, often having to repeat myself and often having dropped calls. I returned the phone. There were some complications but Ireplaced the phone with a motorola razr hd. Still had poor voice quality. I tried to take that phone back. They sent me to tech support, and promised to make everything right. Same problems. I tried everything I could imagine to fix the problem myself. I started turning the mobile data service off before  I would make a call . Unfortunately you can't turn the data service off when someone calls you and you are on the phone. This did seem to help a little bit with the dropped calls but the voice quality was the same. I also turned encryption off. What helped the most was to sit absolutely still. Don't touch my hair, don't move my hands, don't move my head, just sit as still as possible. But even with that, the call quality would degrade over time, become hard to understand, and then quite possibley drop. I went back to verizon and bought another basic pay as you go phone. That phone works fine. Sitting in the same location in my home, the people I reg ualarly talk to immediately recognized the call quality as being better and more  natuaral. Its the same network. Its the same company. I called tech support and explained all that. He did some things and told me everything was fixed. WHile he was telling me, it sounded like he had a mouth full of gravel and I couldn't understand him anymore. To date. two different android phones. two different sims. Lots of wasted time. I return to a basic phone and everything works fine.
What can I do. Iwould try just about anything. I  would buy a new codec aftermarket. I guess I would buy a new device, I don't really want an IPhone. I am paying for unlimited minutes that I can't use. I am also considering other carriers. Forget about the cost, how can I go from where I am at to something that works. How can I tell if it is the device or the network?

zip 70117. i bought another verizon pay as you go phone and it works fine. its not me that is getting upset, its the people i receive calls from with the android smart phone that are complaining. its no fun to have a conversation when you cant understand each other and have to repeat yourself. when i bought this new phone they immediately noticed the difference in quality and clarity! >Number deleted< is its number. i have not found a location from which i can place a call from the android and experience an acceptable call quality. when working with tech support the phone has been restarted without a significant change but i havent been restarting daily.

  • Voice quality problems on iPhone 5s with IOS 7.02 on Verizon.I

I have a brand new iPhone 5s with IOS 7.02 on Verizon.  Everything works great except when on talk on the phone the normal way.  When I do that, people tell me they can hardly hear me.  But, when I put them on the speaker phone, they can hear me very well.  Also, Voice Memos, and SIri all work just fine.  It is only when I talk on the phone the normal way (without the speakerphone on) that the voice quality I am transmitting is very low.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks very much.

Apple helped me solve this problem.  They gave me a brand new iPhone 5s.  The were just great in their support.  It appears that my first iPhone 5s had a faulty "audio chip."  This is the chip that changes the frequency of your voice as you talk into the microphone; Apple explained that it is one frequency when talking on the phone, and another where using the speakerphone, and another when using Siri, and another when using voice memos, etc. You use the same 2 microphones for all of these applications (one at the bottom of the phone, and one my the camera lens), but the "audio chip" adjusts the freqency based on the applicaiton you are using.  So, on my first iPhone 5s, my "audio chip" was defective, so they gave me a new iPhone 5s, and it has been working just fine.  I had the most current IOS operating system on the original iPhone 5s with the faulty "audio chip," and on my new iPhone 5s which works great.  Hope this helps.  The technicians at Apple Customer Care and at the Apple Store are very aware of this problem with potentially defective "audio chips" in some of the iPhone 5s's.  Cheers, Clarence from Cleveland.

No, but there are plenty of Apps which will do this.

  • IPhone 4s - Battery issue and poor voice quality

I had bought my iPhone in May this year. It was working fine till i think a week back battery started to drain quickly at 10% every hour. I have configured office exchange account for mail and accessing global exchange contacts, Google account as exchange for contact sync and iCloud. i dont keep any contacts on exchange, keep in Gmail only. Was Android user earlier.
I read a lot of posts and tried all solutions such as turning off timezone service in location, turn off and delete all email accounts, kept manual sync for emails, ran the battery down till switch off and charging back to 100%, removed apps i doubted could be syncing data in background, turned off locaiton service totally, turned off calendar, turned calendar notifications, turned of iCloud reminder, notes but no effect. Wifi and Siri are also off.
I notice today that I am getting small circle near operator name rather than E symbol (for edge)and at the same time voice quality of person on other end is bad too, can hear small cracking , clicking sounds, voice breaks. Otther person can hear me properly. I get back E symbol in some different place than my desk. I havent changed my desk so thats not a possibility either.
Someone had suggested queued network thread with exchange can cause the issue so Installed System Activity Monitor app but it doesn't show battery graph or which process is taking CPU or network time. Moreover, it shows 4-5% less battery level than on top in disharging mode !!
Used to get good stats of what is eating the battery in my old HTC Desire but iPhone doesn't offer such feature to diagnosis. Ideally should not be required if phone works as expected.
What do I need to do to get battery life and voice quality back? I will try voice again at home just to rule out bad network at work.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

Well, most of what you did is black magic, and has nothing to do with battery drain. But we have no way of knowing how your battery life is below what you think it should be. What are you using it for, what apps do you have, and how much Usage life do you get (settings/general/usage).

  • My iPhone 4S microphone is not working in calls, voice memo or Siri! Please help!!!

I have never dropped my iphone and it's not water damaged. Today all of a sudden the microphone had stopped working on my calls, voice memos and Siri. It still works on speaker phone and when I put my headphones in! I really need help I don't want to have to buy a new one I only have it 6 months!!

This happened to me also.  iPhone 4s.  6.1.3.  Verizon.  Speakerphone stopped working during a phone call.  Speaker phone icon was lit.  Person on other side of call could listen in.  But no sound from speaker.  Music doesn't play.  Siri disappeared although she returned temporarily after I did a restore to new phone and then she went away again.  What I've tried without success.
    Verified settings
    Reset (soft and hard)
    Restore to backup
Then full restore to new phone
Headphone jack in/out 7 or 8 times trick
Blow out headphone jack with compressed air
Carefully cleaning headphone jack with a slightly less cottoned Q Tip
Carefully examined dock port to see if there was debris
Blowing out the dock port with compressed air
    Voodoo incantations
Sacrificing a McDonald's chicken nugget to the Gods of hunger
Nothing worked.  I've googled the problem and I see that there is a division in the tech nerds between hardware (speaker or dock problem) vs software (Apple screwed up one of the updates).  I'm suspecting a dock problem.  Phone out of warranty.  It's not a brick but it is certainly not as functional as it once was.  Any ideas?  dock? software? magic?  thx.

  • I can't hear caller voice

I recently bought an I phone 4,every things were ok,but suddenly I cuold not hear the caller voice unless I convert to speaker mode, while he or she conntinue hearing me any way

Apple advised me to reset the phone to new by wiping off the software and reloading it. This did not fix the situation (which was exactly like your scenario). So I took it back to Apple and they promptly replaced the phone. Back up the phone before you extract the software. This way you won't lose all your most recent contacts, etc. Hope this helps!
