Can't print to Canon iR C4080

I'm running 10.6.4. I am trying to add the Canon iR C4080 that is at my office so I can print to it from my MacBook Pro. I downloaded the latest driver from Canon's website and successfully installed it. I added the printer via System Preferences using LPD and the printer's IP address and selected the printer from the driver list. The printer utility says the printer is ready. Yet when I try to print to it, the document appears in the queue for a second or two, and then disappears. It does not print. What can I do to fix it? I have no trouble printing to the networked hp LaserJet 4000, but the iR is the only color printer in the office. Can anyone help me out?

Hello Peter. There are three possible causes I can think of that could stop the job from printing.
1. The iR C4080 only supports the UFR2 printer language and you are using the Postscript driver or PPD.
2. The iR C4080 does support Postscript but the device has Department ID management enabled.
3. The iR C4080 is using the optional imagePASS-H1 (Fiery) instead of the internal Canon printer board.
With regards to all three above the easiest way to check the configuration of the iR C4080 is to open your Internet browser and enter the IP address of the copier for the URL. This will connect to the internal web page of the iR C4080. If you see an imageRUNNER logo in the top left corner of the displayed page and a row of buttons underneath, such as Device Information, Mailbox and Additional Functions, then the machine is using the internal Canon board. If however you see an image of a small white box then your copier is using the imagePASS-H1. Now for this print controller you can usually download the Mac and Windows drivers from the device itself (you would see a Download tab if you have this controller fitted). However the Mac driver included with the device is not compatible with 10.6 so you will need to check the Canon web site again for an updated driver.
If the iR C4080 is using the internal Canon print controller then we need to check that it has Postscript (or alternatively you can download the UFR2 driver from the Canon web site). With the web page displayed you can click on Additional Functions and then Custom Settings (you may get prompted for a ID and password at this point). With the Custom Settings view displayed, on the right hand pane under the heading of Printer Settings will be the print options the device supports. If you see PS then this confirms you can use the Postscript driver. If you only see UFRII, and possibly PCL, then you cannot use the Postscript driver or Canon PPDs. So check the Canon web site again for the UFR2 v2.x driver for 10.6.
If the copier does have Postscript support but is using Dept ID management, then you can only use the Canon PS driver. The Canon PPDs don't support this facility. You can check via the internal web page if Dept ID is being used under the Custom Settings view. Another way to check is simply walk up to the copier. If you need to enter an ID and password to make a copy then it most likely has Dept ID enabled (or some other third party access control system). If it is Dept ID, then with the PS driver you need to select to print and change the menu in the Print dialog to Special Features. Here you will see an image of the copier. Press the Printer Info button under this image. This will make another window appear that will show if Job Accounting (aka Dept ID) is enabled. If it is enabled, then when you okay this window and the view returns to the Special Features tab you should see the Job Accounting checkbox and it will be enabled. Next to it will be the Settings button. Press this to open the section where you can enter the ID and password. You can also enable a setting that will make a confirmation window appear every time you print, in case there is different IDs you need to use.
Well I believe I have given you enough to get this working on your MBP. Please reply if you need more assistance.

Since upgrading to Lion, I can't register (and therefore can't use) my office printer, a Canon LBP7200Cdn.
I tried for weeks to get it to work with the interim driver Canon released with Lion, then gave up and waited for the full driver. Then that didn't work either.
Installation of the driver appears to work fine, but once the printer is registered, printing from any program gives me the error message "/Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/Bins/capdftopdl failed".
The problem is the same whether connecting via USB or IP.
I had the same problem when I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.7, but installing Canon's new driver fixed it. Now nothing works and I haven't been able to print since the summer. No other Mac users are having this problem (but I'm the only one running Lion). Would welcome help from anyone.

  • Can't print to Canon IPF610 after upgrading to Mavericks. HELP!!

Since updateing to the OS 10.9 Mavericks, I am no longer able to print to my Canon IPF610 Large Format Printer. I tried upgrading the driver at the Canon website for the OS 10.9 but it's still not working.

I already know about this and this solved my problem 2 years ago when I hooked up the printer for the first time. Now after installing the Mavericks update, it keeps saying the printer isn't connected. I tried using a different ethernet cable, unplugging and plugging printer back in and still the same problem. I can still print to it from my old Apple G5 tower using 10.5.8 and was even able to print with no problems on my Intel iMac using the 10.8.  I installed the updated driver for 10.9 on Canon's website and still get the same problem.

  • Can't print to Canon's Card Printer using Airport Express

Airport can see and select my Canon CP200 printer in the admin utility, but I can't print.
Also have a Canon i900 InkJet printer that prints no problem.
Is there any known compatablity problems printing to these types Card Printers?
Does anyone have any solutions to offer?
PS I have my airport express wireless features all turned off.

Contacted Canon on this and they responded that the Card Printers can not be used on a network.
    They didn't specify why.

  • Can"t Print on Canon 4880 from Ipad air

I have a Canon 4880 DW Model # NWQ15793 All in One printer and I can not print from from Ipad Air.  I'm told that App store has no downloads that will allow me to print on that particular printer.  Is there an App anywhere trhat i can download which will allow me to use this printer or do I have to go out and bu a printer that supports AirPrint?

You would be better off with an Airprint printer, but check to see if Canon has an app or you can print through your computer using an application like Print Central or Printopia.

  • Can't Print to Canon MF8350

After I upgraded to Lion I can't print to my Canon MF8350.  The error I am getting is Printer is Not Responding, check to make sure the printer is on.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, deleted and added the printer, but nothing is working.  I am able to print using a USB connection, which will work for a little bit, but I really need wireless printing.  I did download the new drivers listed on Canon's website, but that didn't work either.
Would it be wise to delete /Library/Printers/Canon - looking at the folder doesn't seem like this is going to help me, since they contain bubble jet printer, fax and scan drivers for various Canon equipment, just nothing for my specific MFP printer.

The MF8350 has only built-in ethernet, which I run through an Airport hub on my wireless network without any problem - in Snow Leopard.
With Lion using the latest drivers from July 2011, I have had nothing but problems that appear to be related to the driver no longer recognizing the default paper type for the setting.  There are numerous paper types available.  You can set the printer to one type in the settings (such as Heavy 1) but with almost each print from the comptuer, I will ger an eoor "No Paper" on the printer itself because it does not match the paper types.  I was told by Canon support that I have to go into the print settings every time I print and go to Paper Source, manually select the top Paper Source button then select the mathcing paper.  The Canon tech guy mumbled something derogatory about Macs and said final drives are due in October. He called the current drivers Betas as to excuse it's lameness.  At least I can print sort of reliably again.  I do get crashed when trying to print, directly linked to the Canon driver.

  • Can't Print to Canon ImagePROGRAF 600 with IMAC running Mavericks

I have a new IMAC running Mavericks connected to a networked Canon Plotter. I can plot to it using my old MacBook Pro running snow leopard with the 2009 Driver Ver. 2.17. And my office mate can print to it using a 2009 IMAC running mavericks with the 2012 Driver and ver. 3.10. When I go to print, in the page set-up of the print window I can only select MANUAL for the paper feed, I can't change to cassette or Roll, and then an alert pops up saying: "Manual is not available..."
If I ignore that and continue trying to print I get a printer error message say: "Open error: Try turning the printer off and back on again..."  This doesn't work either.
I've tried going backwards in software generations but that only creates more problems. The Mountain lion version allowed me select MAUAL or CASSETTE in the page set up window but then the ImagePROGRAF Preview said "That function is not support by this printer." Has any one experienced this and solved it?  Thanks.

I think this could be related to a communication problem between the Mac and iPF. I don't have an iPF600 but do have an iPF8400 and iPF9400S. I downloaded the v3.10 driver for 10.8 and installed it on 10.9.5. I then created a dummy IP address and selected the iPF600 driver. When I first tried to print I got the following pop-up.
As this IP address was not connected to any printer I cancelled this window and then found the same symptom as you i.e. Only having Manual and selecting it resulted in an error window appearing. I also found that when I changed to the Main menu, the Media Type drop menu was stuck at Plain Paper.
I then created another printer to the iPF8400 but using the iPF600 driver. When I selected to print, I got the pop-up again. This time I entered my password and then found that the drop menus worked in Page Setup and Main.
So when you added the iPF600 to Printers & Scanners, did you get the pop-up above?
Also, if you select the Main menu, is the Get Information button available?

  • Help!!  How can I print to Canon MP800, "PrintJobMgr" failed?

Using 10.5.6 for a while, but ALL OF A SUDDEN, all 3 of my computers (an iMac, a Powerbook G4, a MacBook Pro) won't print to a Canon MP800 through Airport or directly to printer via USB. I've trashed anything to do with Canon and reinstalled driver twice, but all I get are these messages:
    /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
    com.apple.print.recoverable-warning
I don't even get the print dialog box anymore. Printer icon just bounces in the dock and I get the messages above. Where is the problem??

It is unusual that all three Mac's would give the same error when the printer is connected directly to them via USB. Anyway, I would try resetting the printing system first on the Mac that is currently connected to the printer via USB.
Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Move you mouse over the Printers list and then hold down the Control key. Now click your mouse and then let go off the Control key. You will see 'Reset printing system' pop-up which you can click. This will delete your printer queue. At this stage, turn off the printer and then back on again. After a short while the printer should automatically add to your printer list again. When it does, try printing. Hopefully the error will have stopped.
If this doesn't help then you could look at trying Print Therapy from www.fixamacsoftware.com. This utility can help with resolving core printing system issues.

  • Can't print on Canon printer since 10.8.2

We have a Canon i-SENSYS LBP 5050n printer. When I upgraded my MB Pro to Mountain Lion, I could not print anymore, until we found a printer driver at Canon Australia's web site, version 3.55. Updating to 10.8.2 again leaves me without the chance to print: the document stays in the printer queue forever: for a while it looks like it migh porint, then it goes into pause mode. Resuming does not help either.
Where can I find a printer driver that allows me to print again, or what else can I do?
    Thanks for your help,
    Wladimir

Thanks a lot, Pahu, for your help. I just read the other postings, which seem to cover exactl the same problem as I have. I did check for similar threads before posting my question, but obviously I have missed that oen; sorry.
The CAPT backgrounder is running, then entry in System Information > Printers > Canon LBP 5050n > URI is cnbma://localhost:59687 and still it is not working.
Here are the contents of my ccpd.conf file:
    # Canon Printer Daemon for CUPS Configuration Data
    <Path>
    # CUPS configuration files Path
    #  Default  /
    CUPS_ConfigPath   /
    # LOG Directory Path
    #LogDirectoryPath /var/log/CCPD/
    </Path>
    # Printer entries
    #  Mapping each "Printer-Name" to "Printer Device Port".
    # The "Printer-Name" has to be identical to the CUPS printer queue name.
    #  For example, if you prepare a printer named "XXXX" as a CUPS printer
    #  queue name, and the printer is connected to the USB port "/dev/usb/lp0",
    #  you can use the following three lines example just by removing the
    #  comment symbol "#" of each line.
    #<Printer XXXX>
    #DevicePath  /dev/usb/lp0
    #</Printer>
    <Ports>
    # socket port
    UI_Port  59787
    # backend data port
    PDATA_Port  59687
    </Ports>
Some additiona information: the poster of the question in the other thread you informed me about, 6andalf, write that ever since updating to Mountain Lion he cannot print. The same happened to me, until I found CAPT 355 on Canon Australia's web site, as mentioned. When I updated to 10.8.1 I could still print, until I installed 10.8.2.

  • Photoshop can't print to Canon Pro9000 Mark II - ICC profile issue

I'm using Photoshop CS with OS 10.6.2. I have the latest Canon driver, 10.30.3.0, and the latest ICC profile set for Canon from the Apple driver site. As I begin the print dialogue everything seems fine. Photoshop is controlling color management, and I select the Canon paper/quality ICC profile. After I click print, it sends the print job and I get the following error: Could not print "test.jpg" because the ICC profile is no longer installed.
I can load the same image into Photoshop Elements 6 and everything works fine, except I have the familiar Canon magenta cast syndrome I still need to work through.
Any ideas on the "no longer installed" error?
    Thanks!

The Canon ICC profiles for the respective paper stocks are stored in /Libary/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Resources/ICCProfiles. You should have one labelled "Pro9000IIseries.canonicc". I wonder if this profile may have been damaged with the recent 10.30.3 update, assuming that you had the previous driver installed.
FYI - I found that running the update via Software Update did not correctly update the installed Canon drivers. Even deleting the queue and re-adding still showed the previous 10.26 driver. I found that I had to download the v2.3 Canon update and run it manually. Only then did the installed queues show the v10.30 update. Maybe you need to try the same?
One way you could check if the profile is okay outside of PS is to print the image from Preview and via the Canon menus, set Color Matching to ColorSync and then select the profile you selected in PS. If you get a similar error then you know that it is a driver issue rather than being related to the application.
Note that regarding PSE6, Adobe previously acknowledged that there was an issue with double color management, ie both PSE6 and the printer was controlling the color output. Adobe's suggestion at the time was to disable color management in PSE6 and let the printer manage the color.

  • Installed OS update now can't print from Canon MF4500 series

Have just updated to 10.8.5 and triend to install new printer drivers for Canon MF4580dn printer but drivers aren't recognised and I cannot print

Not quite sure what you mean by the drivers aren't recognised but if you mean the MF4500 is not listed in the Add Printer window, then this can happen sometimes and often the simple solution is to restart the Mac.
If this is not what you mean then can you provide more information please.

  • In Leopard, Can't print to Canon Imageclass MF4150 - wants to FAX

Although I do not have my print dialogue box set for fax,it is definitelyset for printing, the document won't print because it says I have no recipients. What do I do about this?

There are two different drivers available for the MF4150. The UFR2 driver for printing and the Fax driver for, well, faxing. It sounds like you may have chosen the fax driver when you created the printer queue. If you open System Preferences > Print & Fax and select the printer, in the right pane will be the entry Kind. This should say something like 'MF4150 UFR2 (LT)'. If the word Fax is showing instead then that is the problem.
Or, when you created the printer queue, you should have seen two entries in the default browser view (if the printer is connected via USB). Maybe you selected the one that said Fax?
The first thing I would do is ensure you have the UFR2 driver installed. If you don't remember installing this software, you can easily tell if it is present by opening Finder and navigating to Library/Printers/Canon. If the driver software is installed you will see the folder UFR2. If the folder isn't there, download the latest version of 1.70 from Canon and run the installer.
With the UFR2 driver installed, choose to add a printer and select the one that doesn't show fax (if connected by USB). If it is networked, select More Printers then Canon IP (UFR2). Then input the ip address of the 4150 and OK. The software should automatically select the correct printer model.

I can not print from Canon IR5050 after installing Maverick. I downloaded new driver from Canon with no luck.

I'm almost completely certain that the scanning feature worked before the update. Having said that though, I don't scan a great deal and it may be the case that when I have done, the printer was directly connected to the MBP. However, since I have a laptop it's far more logical that I would have had the printer connected to Airport Express for reasons of portability so I can't really see that I would have had the printer connected directly to the laptop. Besides this, I have no memory of having this problem previously. Therefore, I don't think my memory is to blame although of course, if it were I'd have no way of knowing!

Have you ruled out an issue with the driver for the printer? It is possible that the material on the installation disk was developed prior to PSEv.12. I understand that everything is new, but who knows what the date of production is. You can check on Canon's web site for driver update.
