  • Only root user can login, Please help

Hi all, Iam new to solaris.
I installed solaris 10 and configured SSH service.
only root can login to console throught GUI let it be JDE or CDE while other users can't.
Other users can only login through SSH or through command line prompt( before the GUI starts).
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Well, the GUI read/writes a lot of configuration files and otherfiles in your HOME directory, if it failes doing so the different services which makes the GUI fails to function and it will exit.
The users can probably login through the GUI even if they don't have a proper $HOME if they choose the Option->Session->Failsafe session.

  • Photocast Login - Please Help

I just created my first photocast, which is password protected. I am testing the login settings and I cannot seem to login from another browser. I enter the username (all combinations - username-Public, username-public, username, public, Public) and the password and the authentication box keeps popping up. What could be wrong? I am beyond frustrated with this and I am about to just go with Snapfish, Shutterfly or something else that actually works. Please help and thanks!

Well, I finally gave up on the password-protected photocast idea. An alternative (and this is not a commercial!): Shutterfly. They have a nice tool that integrates nicely with iPhoto, your photos will be password protected and best of all, *it works.* I like the photocast concept via iPhoto but in my experience, at least, it has a lot of maturing to do. Good luck.

  • MBP freezes at login - Please help!

    hey all!
    please,please, please help me...
...just now it started that my mbp crashes (or freezes) at the login.
yes, i have installed all updates and firmware etc. but days or weeks ago and till now it worked without any problems.
i get to the login screen and see the cursor blink once and then it is gone and i can't sign in.
i did a restart in safemode and repaired the rights and checked the volume (which is ok) but still it freezes.
adobe version cue is not installed (or any other startup item).
i'm quite new to the mac so could anybody please help me out here?
    thank you!

Oddly, mine is doind the same. It was working fine on Monday. I left it overnight to let the UNIX processes run overnight.
Had a day off yesterday. Came in this morning to find the machine locked solid and roasting hot!!
I have used the install disc and repaired permissions and repaired the disc. No use.
I have reinstalled the OS from the supplied discs and run the updates and still it freezes at login. I get as far as selecting my user and typing the password and then it freezes.
I'm now going through the safe boot option. After that I'm going to have to rebuild my account since it is the only thing left.
I don't understand how the machine can chew itself up so much overnight that it hangs.
I have to be honest and say that I'm less impressed with the MBP. My old 700MHz G3 iBook works better than this.
The powersupply (I think) whines at me.
The wireless connection is a best, flakey
The OS seems to want to crumble under it's own weight.
Oh...and now the it has rebooted it can't get past the 'Starting Mac OS X....' screen.
If anyone has any bright ideas I would appreciate them. I'm now going to boot in single user mode and do apples recommended pokes to see what happens.

  • Spinning Beach Ball at login--please help!

Hello! Today I booted my iMac and when I clicked on my username as usual, the spinning beach ball appeared. It was working fine till yesterday! The only two unusual things were yesterday evening, when Safari died on me when a Flash ad loaded and then all the rest of my open applications started not responding (I forced-shut down my iMac and went to sleep), and the Apple firmware update I did on Monday (but again, it was working fine till yesterday). What do I do now if I can't login? Please, please help me! I was very stupid and did not backup the data in my FileVault, so I really need to access my Vault!

Cleaning global and user caches didn't work, cleaning user preferences didn't work, Safe boot didn't work, single-user mode didn't work, the only option left to me was Archive and Install, which fixed my problem.

  • ITunes wont open, cant uninstall, cant upgrade, cant reinstall. please help

recently, itunes decided not to open. no error message, no computer lockup, just not open. so when i tried to reinstall via add/remove programs, the installer opened, and acted normal, said it was validating install, then when it got to removing old program, it froze and a windowsey-looking error message popped up saying that "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavaliable" "click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi' in the box below" [dropdown+browse button]. the dropdown lists 2 file paths one being in the temp files in mydox and the other being in some application cache files in some system folder. neither works.
please help! im stuck! i have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, repairing, downloading the most recent and trying to install that, and even downloading an older version, and i all get the same error message.

  • Ipod touch not responding blank white screen cant reset please help?

    Please Help!!
I Just got the new a new ipod touch which was working fine.  I began updating to new apple software and while doing so I lost internet connection and ipod was unplugged.  Now all I get is a blank white or green screen even after reset.  The ipod won't even register when plugged into computer or itunes.  What can I do?? If I wait until the battery dies and run a restore will it work?? If so How do I get the games back I purchased recently? Please help I'm pretty new to all this.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Beachballing Upon Login - Please Help!

    Hello.
When I log in with any account on my iMac, the dock appears along with my wallpaper, then i get nothing but the beachball of death. The menu bar at the top on the screen does not display, and there are no icons on desktop.
Booting in safe mode works fine.
I tried cleaning up my cache using Smasher, but this did not work.
The problem first started (but not every time I tried to log in) when my iMac was connected to a central server - so I presume this did something to the local accounts.
I updated to v.10.6.2 last week, and my computer is no longer connected to this server, and now the problem occurs every time I try to log in
Help required, I have no ideas!
    Thanks in advance.

You might give this a try:
If you were able to log in, this may work for you (it has for others). Just don't type 'exit'.
You will need to clear out your caches and some of your preference files. Try these commands—I recommend you print this out in a largish mono-spaced font so you don't miss any spaces (or add extra ones).
Be careful. Some of these commands are dangerous.
    sudo -s
You will be prompted for your password, which will not be echoed. Type it and press return. Now you are root, so be especially careful!
    cd /Library/Preferences
    rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    rm com.apple.windowserver.plist
    cd /Library/Caches
    rm *
    cd /System/Library
    cd /System/Library/Caches
    rm *
    reboot
This should now take you to a proper login screen after the normal boot sequence.
If you get error messages saying files do not exist, don't panic.
The problem most likely is in your user account and caused by something that's corrupted.

  • "Starting Window Login" PLEASE help

I have a blue G3 running Panther. I've had it for about two years (bought it from a friend, so I have no disks) and a couple of months ago I tried to start it up. However, it stops loading right before the login screen. It says "Starting Window Login" and never takes me to the login screen.
I have no disks for this computer. I really need these files. Is there any way I can get to them?
I have a Mac Mini with the Tiger disks, but I have no idea where to go from here.
I bought an external HD enclosure and put the G3 harddrive in the enclosure, but it will not mount on my Mac Mini. Could there be something wrong with my HD?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Welcome To Discussions lehatch!
In the interim, I strongly suggest that you find a means of trying to access your files, to attempt to do a backup!
If your Mac is Firewire enabled, and you have access to another Mac that is also Firewire, you could try Firewire Target Disk Mode.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.
Unless purchased from AppleRescue, the discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade on them.

If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that, and then use the PPC 10.4.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.

  • Login (please help!)

I have this code, and I want to do something like that but without the (button3), wants to normal login (without registration)
    this code:
    Form1:
    Public Class Form1
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    If TextBox2.Text = "PASSWORD123" Then
    Form2.Show()
    Me.Close()
    MsgBox("zostales zalogowany")
    Else
    MsgBox("Zle haslo")
    End If
    End Sub
    Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
    If TextBox1.Text = "LOGIN" Then
    TextBox1.Enabled = False
    TextBox2.Enabled = True
    Button3.Enabled = False
MsgBox("login jest poprawny , jeszcze hasło")
    Else
MsgBox("wpisz login który istnieje i jest poprawny potem kliknij przycisk")
    End If
    End Sub
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
    If TextBox2.Text = "PASSWORD123" Then
    Form2.Show()
    Else
    MsgBox("ZLE HASLO LUB LOGIN")
    End If
    End Sub

First: Using Form default instances will only create problems. I promise. Many brains here were used up searching for a problem only because the wrong Form instance was accessed. So, if you want to show a Form, create a new instance (e.g. "bla = new
    Form2").
I'm not a native English speaker, so I don't understand the sentence you wrote above. Could you please rephrase? (..and my Polish is a bit rusty, too ;-) (Cor?)

  • OSX Server wont boot to login please help!!!

    Hi All
I Recently tried to update server to the latest version via the mac app store. it asked for a restart which i did but as it was doing the installation or downloading the update it failed and a message prompted saying that the machine must restart. i hit the restart button and nothing happened after about roughly half an hour i noticed it was still on a grey screen so i forced it to shut down.
i turned the machine on again and now it will not load into the login screen all that happens is the spinning wheel for a few minutes which then freezes.
I tried booting in safe mode to no success i get the same results.
please can anyone assist me i will be eternally grateful.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.a. Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode.* The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Post for further instructions.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is damaged and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Boot into Recovery again. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a backup.
    Step 8
A dead logic-board battery in a Mac Pro can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
