Common Jobs

Hi,
I'm looking for best practices on structuring jobs that may be used by multiple proejcts. For example an orders job may be used by Product Team and Finance. Currently the way we have our folders stuctured it is difficult to prioritize one project over another. There are times when I want to hold all projects unil Finance is done, but I need a couple of jobs out of Prod Development. Setting up dependencies and holding some jobs while letting others run then changing this when another group has priority or all groups have the same prirotiy becomes difficult to manage.
What I would like to do is have these types of jobs exist in all needed project folders. Whichever group has priority should run the job and the other projects that need it should have their copy of the job become completed noramlly at the same time. Kind of like a job Synonym.
Another way may be to setup  an extra folder 'Common Jobs' that has a second job with dependencies to all the orignal jobs in each folder. In the dependencies tab I select at least one dependency must be met. All successor jobs in each folder will have the common object job as a dependnecy. If it has been met, successors take off. If not the first project to check will run the jobs.
Maybe I'm making it too complicated. Any other users have common jobs and chaging project prioritzation schedules?

Hi Manny-
I agree with Michelle, if i were you i would try using the resources and queues.. also i would recommend using Variables to lock the your "Common" job group when its being running for some instance and then make the last job within that group to reset (unlock) the variabel so the next iteration/project/occurence can be released automatically without your/operator's manual intervention.
hope that helps

  • Newbie question RE: Select common fields

I have to select all common jobs from the emp table that are in dept's 10,20,30. Do I need to do a self join? Subquery? Any help will be greatly appreciate.

I can think of a couple of ways off the top of my head:
    SELECT job_id
    FROM employees e
    WHERE department_id = 10 and
EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM employees i
                  WHERE e.job_id = i.job_id and
                        i.department_id = 20) and
EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM employees i
                  WHERE e.job_id = i.job_id and
                        i.department_id = 30);
    SELECT job_id FROM employees
    WHERE department_id = 10
    INTERSECT
    SELECT job_id FROM employees
    WHERE department_id = 20
    INTERSECT
    SELECT job_id FROM employees
    WHERE department_id = 30nurhidayat:
You query will return the jobs that are in the three departments, not the "common jobs" from the three departments.
    Devanand:
Your query is is incorrect, it will throw:
ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression
because you do not have department in the select list

    Hi vineeth,
with transaction SM36, you have the button "Standard job" that you can use to schedule all necessary job in your system. This function allow to schedule job in the right client, so is better to launch it after client copy. Not all job are mandatory, for example if you haven't a livecache you can not schedule the job regarding it.
The job for database are to be scheduled from transaction DB13, usually I schedule from DB13 the check DB, update statistic and clean up log
    Best Regards

  • Sun Connection 1.1.1 job confirmation

I've created a recurring job with a policy that says "yes" to everything except "file confilcts" and a profile that includes a baseline. I've also white listed a baseline for a group of clients the job applies to.
When the job runs in simulation mode, it requires user intervention to confirm the install of the baseline patches and a second confirm to approve the reboot.
We want to run the job after business hours when no one is available to confirm anything and then we will check the status in the morning.
Is this confirmation behavior special to the simulation or will it also require a confirm when the job runs to actually deploy the baseline? Is there a way to "pre-confirm"?

Thanks for the tip. That helped put me on the right track. For some reason, I didnt associate the term Notifications with Reboot the system.
Having that new association in my vocabulary, I went back to the documentation for sections dealing with effective management of confirmations and simulations and jobs. I didnt find much to address my specific needs for unattended automation (i.e. Enterprise 1.0 Userss Guide section 12 Common Job Operations), but I did discover a nice feature that I havent found any documentation for.
If you run a job simulation and answer yes to all simulations, after the job has completed, you can right click on the completed job task in the task window you get a drop down menu with an item "copy policy". That menu item will let you create a new policy that includes all the confirmations you just completed manually. You can then apply the new policy to the scheduled job and the confirmations will be performed by the policy automatically when it is actually deployed.
That helps create a fully automated job that can be scheduled for running unattended after hours. Forgive me if I missed the section of the documentation that describes this, but if not, I hope that feature and technique might be included in the next version. Its a very handy feature.

  • Creative Sync Manager weird bug (featur

    Hi,
I'm a new Zen Touch 20GB owner although I've been an avid 3G iPod owner before it died on me some time ago. Anyway, I love my new Zen Touch for what it worth but if only if the bundled software would perform better. Well, first of all, I find Creative MediaSource Organizer to be quite a decent audio player despite the weird 4-panes navigation scheme. I have no problem with it yet though.
However, the accompanying sync plugin/module for my Zen Touch is very disappointing.
Before I start ranting, here are some details:
    Mp3 Player:
    Zen Touch 20GB
    Date of purchase: 0/2/2005
    Firmware: 2.0.05 (PlayForSure)
    Creative MediaSource:
Version 3.30.2 with updated driver for PlayForSure-enabled Zen Touch
Now back to the issue. First, it takes more than 0 seconds to initialise. Loading a big chunk of drivers for all MP3 players Creative have ever produced or what? Second, it doesn't have an option to delete files in my zen player which are not in my PC library. Third, it REFUSES TO REPLACE MP3 files that are already in the player eventhough the files are listed before the syncing procedure. You see, I edit ID3 tags of my music collection all the time so it is natural for me to have my modified ID3 tags to reflect on the files on my Zen Touch as well. OK sure, when I fire up the sync manager, it manages to detect that I have all these files with updated ID3 tags needed to be copied over to my Zen Touch but why in the name of creativity wouldn't it copy the files just like it should do? The files are already in my Zen Touch? Just replace them! I know what I want to do so just replace them! Or at least give me the "Do you want to replace the files?" box with "Yes" or "No" button. Why do I have to go into the directory structure of my zen player and delete the files manually in order to get the latest files copied over?
I hope this issue is fixed soon. Don't give me those "download the freeware NomadSync etc" advices. Why bother releasing the bundled software if it cannot do such a simple job of replacing files already in the player.
p/s: I read the "read before you post" post and I already did some searches in the forum for previously posted posts on the issue above but it seems that I'm the first one to discover it. Or maybe everyone else just doesn't care and decided to suck it up?Message Edited by anatilmizun on -09-2005 02:57 AM

well, I don't mind having to use other program for not-so-common jobs, but this is about replacing/overwriting files that are already in the player. I did mention that the sync manager is smart enough to make a list of files that it thinks should be synced to my zen touch but why won't it copy the files over? Isn't it weird if you sit and think about it's Isn't the real purpose of sync manager to copy files from PC to Zen or vice versa so that both places have the exact set of files? So what if the destination already has the files? The files are different, as detected by sync manager, so it should just overwrite them. It is the basic job the Sync Manager is supposed to do, isn't it's Why should I use another program?
It's like sync manager saying "hey, I think the files X, Y and Z in your MP3 player are outdated so I am going to sync them. WHoaaaa! There are already X, Y and Z in your MP3 player so I'm going to leave them alone" Sense any weirdness or craziness about this hypotethic monologue?Message Edited by anatilmizun on -0-2005 0:09 AM

  • Spry Menu issues in Internet Explorer

I have created a Spry menu for my website and although the menu appears to look fine in Firefox and Safari, the formatting changes in Internet Explorer(IE).
1.sub menu bar is not dropping down below the main menu bar it is appearing at the top of the screen.
2.When you hover over the sub menu bar items the font should be white however in IE it is appearing as an aqua color.
3.The menu bar is not straight across the page, at the beginning and end there are chunks of the menu bar that appear white.
Are there any fixes for these issues that would help to make the menu look consistent across all browsers.  The website page is

I am new to Dreamweaver and therefore would appreciate a bit more help with the issues you identified.
I did replace the doctype. As for removing the menu from a table and putting it into a div, would you be able to identify in the code below how I would do that?  Thanks

  • 11.2.0.3- how to sort by latest time and get mode of those values in 1 sql

    Hi,
    have s sql as below
    select   i.ean,
      i.year_of_pubn,
stats_mode(max(i.name) keep (dense_rank first order by i.db_timestamp desc)) name
    from archive.zpx_plnt_iss_stg_bak  a,
        ARCHIVE.zpx_med_iss_stg_bak i
    where a.etl_run_num_seq >= (select last_number_processed from last_processed_archive_num )
    and i.etl_run_num_seq >= (select last_number_processed from last_processed_archive_num )
    and a.id = i.id
group by  i.ean, i.year_of_pubnbut saying not single group by function.
    Scenario is
3 records for the same grouping (ean + year) all have same timestamp, 2 of the values the same, one different wish to take the mode (i.e. one kiwth the 2 vaklues but can't seem to use stats_mode in same sql.
Any Thoughts/ideas how to do this?
Can do with with statment first but want to do in one sql if posisble without using with clause, inline views etc;.
    What am i doing wrong.

    Hi,
You can do what you want to (without sub-queries) using the analytic FIRST_VALUE (or LAST_VALUE) function.
Since you didn't post any sample data, I'll use tables in the scott schema to illustrate. This shows the most common job in the highest salaray grade for each department.
    SELECT DISTINCT
              e.deptno
    ,         FIRST_VALUE (e.job) OVER ( PARTITION BY  e.deptno
                                       ORDER BY      g.hisal     DESC
                             ,             COUNT (*)     DESC
                            )      AS top_job
    FROM       scott.emp       e
    JOIN       scott.salgrade  g   ON  e.sal  BETWEEN  g.losal
                                        AND       g.hisal
    GROUP BY  e.deptno
    ,            e.job
    ,       g.hisal
    ;Output:
    `DEPTNO TOP_JOB
         10 PRESIDENT
         30 MANAGER
20 ANALYSTI suspect using a sub-query will be more efficient, as well as clearer.

  • Oracle user?

    Hi,
New to oracle, and to the forum.
A product I'm installing (Visionael Network Audit) requires Oracle to be installed beforehand.
I've successfully installed Oracle. Firstly, I do not have any user other than the administrator on the Windows Server machine. Also I did not configure or change anything prior to the Oracle installation. If i've erred here can you point me to some summarised howto document for oracle installation.
If thats fine, next I'm having problem with an SQL script (to which I'm new as well)

  • DW Partitioned View not updateable

We recently added a list enum root to a management pack that also contained Data Warehouse elements. when we imported the updated version of the MP to Service Manager the DW Load.Common job started failing.
This Job Module does not have a date value watermark so I can not reset the watermark value.
The MP is sealed and was not generating any errors before the recent edit to the MP I have done a compare of the pre and post xml and none of the DW elements were edited.

  • Peoplesoft HRMS Functional question

    Hi All,
Currently I am working in a support project where I usually do not get involved in resolving technical nor functional issues since its not in our scope of work. My point is, I am not satisfied with the work I do so I need a change.
Hence, for that I have been learning the technical as well as functional stuff at home as I have installed peoplesoft on my laptop.
Today, I had an interview and it was not quiet good. He asked me a question:
"If a company has two offices one in India and another in US and both country uses few common job codes so how should we add new empoyee in the system so that data redundancy would not occure".
I replied - "we can add job code to an existing peoplesoft deliverd table PS_JOB_CODES and select the job code from this table while adding a new employee into the system". But, I got very bad reaction from the interviewer due to this answer.
So, I have decided to create a virtual company say "INFOTECH INC" and setup this company into the peoplesoft on my laptop so that I would have all kinds of hands on in peoplesoft functional area.
    Does my Idea sounds good?
Also, Could any one please give me the correct answer of the above question asked by my interviewer?

    Take a look at
PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 Application Fundamentals PeopleBook > Working with System Data Regulation in HCM
It explians how Business Units and Setids are used to centralize redundant information such as country codes while keeping information such as departments and job codes decentralized.

  • Regarding post installation

    Hi,
could you all please help me in knowing the jobs that are to be scheduled after installation of an ECC server. I want to know the common jobs that are scheduled after the installation. The jobs may also include background jobs.
I hope some of the jobs are like checkDB, verifyDB...could you help me with more..
    vineeth

    Hello Vineeth,
Generally after the installation as a part of post installation we schedule standard background jobs which can be done through SM36, you may find a standard note on the Standard background jobs.
    Best Regards,
    Sachin.

  • Project team-Roles

    Hi SAP gurus,
Can u please tell me roles of the each of the persons in project implementation.
    1.Program manager
    2.Project manager
    3.Project leader
4.Team leader (and how many team leaders will be there in a project)
    5.Senior consultant
    6.Associate consultant.

    Hi,
The job roles slightly differ from project to project and compnay to company based on their requirements.
But most common job roles are as follows
    1.Project manager :
Project Manager is the person who takes care of the entire project. In coordination with Business Development team, the project manager will propose the no. of resources required, time lines and they fix the cost invoved in the project. And negotiate with the client based on these. Once the project is finalised, then a P.O can be raised from client. once after getting the PO project manager will pool up the requred resources (if they dont have a pre list) then start the work. He will be responsible for all the deliverables. If any thing goes wrong or any time lines are missed then project manager will be responsible for entire project.
    2.Project leader
Project Leader and Project Manager are mostly one and same. As I said its dependent on compnay. Some compnaies will call it as Project Leader or Project Manager. So, the roles are almost same.
3.Team leader (and how many team leaders will be there in a project)
As the no. of resources are finalised for each module like FICO, SD, MM, PP (its purely based on the project) then one consultant (normally senior) will be come Team Leader, who will take care of his team members. Normally if the Project is big, then there will be individual Team Leaders of each module (like one for SD, ABAP, FICO, MM, etc). He will coordinate with his team members and will work accordingley to give the deliverables with in the stipulated time lines. He will report to the Project Leader or Project Manager.
    54Senior consultant &Associate consultant.
Senior consultants and Associate Consultants are nothing but the consultants who will be working in the Project. Like SD, MM, FICO consultants. They will be incoordination with the Client and responsible for individual deliverables or assigned tasks within the stipulated time. These will report to Team Leader and Project Managers. These poeple normally will do configartaions or customizings, which ever is requred for the project. Senior and Associates are the just designations based on their experiance in that field.
And the Team Size is purely dependent on the Project. Its not mandatory that each project has these many members. If the project is small then the team size will be small and if the projcet is big then the team size will be big. Normally for implementation project the team size will be around 15.
    Hope this is clear.
    Reward if helpful
    Thanks
    Praveen

  • Updating Detail Block when Master Block Updates

Using scott/tiger: I have Dept in Master and EMP in detail on Form6i.
The relation is made as dept.deptno=emp.deptno.
When I change the first record of Dept (I changed deptno=10 to deptno=11), I don't get changes of detail block.
I just want to have synchronize result....... confused???... I think I made it... I hope

This is a common problem that we usually face...<br>
Isn't it? Don't we have any Form level Casscade<br>
Update (as we have Casscade Delete)?<br><br>
Well, I cannot say that's a common job to update primary key. That' even very rare... maybe one or two time I seen this one in the real world, and that was during migration application or such like thing.<br>
Some days ago, there was same discussion Re: For update cascade<br>
    <br>
But if you have to update very often your PK, you maybe need to rethink the datamodel.<br>

  • Simple list of HR openings via webdynpro

    Hi,
I'm not an SAP developer myself, but I've worked closely with SAP in the past. Currently, I am working with a company that is posting job openings via the SAP e-recruiting/webdynpro application.  We are tasked with basically scraping and processing the job openings that are displayed and I am having trouble automatically retrieving the information from that page.
As seems to be standard (based on searches, this seems to be a common job search page), the page is of the format:
    /sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/hrrcf_a_unreg_job_search/
Typically, this page presents a search page with several options and a submit button.  When clicked, it takes the user to another page with a page of results. That page seems to work through a series of Ajax postbacks and contextual ID's that need to be tracked and makes the scraping extremely complicated.  Getting to just a simple list of available jobs involves a lot of juggling and requests, and then getting from a job entry in the list to the job itself requires more hurdles.
I'm just trying to find out from an SAP expert if there are any other standard hrrcf applications that exist in SAP that will simply list out the various jobs without having to do this complicated search.  My best case would be if there was a page that simply dumped out a bunch of XML/JSON as a list, something like:
    /sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/hrrcf_post_lst  (or whatever)
As I said, I've been working with the other company but they don't seem to understand or be able to contact the correct people internally who can help, so I'm trying to reach out to this forum to see if someone else can give me more information I can take back to them.  Any help would be appreciated, including brainstorming about other possible options.  We have several clients asking us to scrape their SAP sites which are set up exactly the same, so a general solution would be great.
    Thanks!
    Diamond
ps if this is not the right forum, please let me know.

Thanks for your information, but I fear I was unclear.
I am not interested in the difference between internal versus external jobs, or published versus not published.  I am interested in displaying the same external published jobs that are displayed typically via the search form:
    /sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/hrrcf_a_unreg_job_search/
However, I am trying to discover if there is another different, distinct web form that will simply display the same jobs but displayed using a simpler interface.  So, basically, is there any other default application form that displays the contents of the T77RCF_EXT_PUB table, but does it as a list and not through a complicated search form?
Or alternately, if there is any kind of RSS or XML data feed I can access that would hit T77RCF_EXT_PUB.  Again, I am looking for information that I can take back to my client to help them activate or configure whatever is needed.
I hope that makes sense, and I hope that this is the right forum.
    Chris
