Compressor wont cancel export

My compressor wont cancel an export that jumed from 4 hrs to 148 hrs. I went to the /var/spool/qmaster files, but that file is empty. Any other idea? I mean I can quit compressor but when I open it back up the file begins to export again which is not letting me export other files.

Hi Michael.
Resetting the Qmaster share prefs was kind of a Hail Mary idea that I borrowed from someone else.
My Compressor/Qmaster experience over three versions has actually been outstanding compared to other pro apps – very stable – and I typically can't reproduce many of the problems that some users report on these boards. Of course everyone has a somewhat different systems configuration, different plug-ins etc which probably account for 95% of the reasons why some "bugs" exist for some and not for others.
But just a few times I have had jobs that refused to cancel, regardless of what buttons I "pushed". Even rebooting the machine didn't seem to phase Qmaster…it resumed doing whatever it was doing after I relaunched. I frankly cannot now remember how those were resolved…a random click perhaps.
I still hope the OP will post what it was that worked for him.

Compressor wont open

compressor wont open. I tried reinstalling and i tried reinstalling the 1.1 update and it still wont open.
i am using fcp HD.....when i try to go to compressor from within fcp the computer crashes.
i am on a powerbook g4 osx 10.3.9

yes repaired permissions and ran updater....
now my fcp hd wont open...i tried reinstalling that to no avail....

Batch Monitor Wont cancel item :(

I had a file that I wanted to compress from Motion, so I saved it to my desktop and put it through Compressor. I checked it in Batch monitor as it didn't seen to be doing anything also I spotted that I wanted one more filter on the footage, so I cancelled the file in batch monitor and trashed the desktop original.
My problem is now everytime I go back into batch monitor after submitting a new file in compressor, the canned file is still there trying to cancel and it wont let me get anything else done.
Please advise if anyone out there can help, as im going out of my mind trying to sort it out - my last resort is to do a clean install and I really dont want to do that

I sumbitted a Compressor 3 job, a 10-sec Motion project that I wanted to encode in Flash using the On2 plugin (I also have Flash 8 installed). This kind of job was routine with Compressor 2 and took very little time.
With Compressor 3, things look weird. I submitted the job and almost 25 minutes later it was still sitting in the job list of the Batch Monitor, its progress bar empty, no processor activity reported. I decided to cancel this job but was not successful. I quit Batch Monitor, trashed permissions of both Compressor 3 and Batch Monitor, deleted the Motion project that was the source of the encode, re-installed Compressor 3 - nothing helps.
Now whenever I submit a new job it lands in the queue which is being halted by the old indestructible job. This defective job does not progress and I cannot cancel it. If I Reset Background Processing, this job comes back as a new job and sits there ticking off new time. The log follows:

If anyone can tell me how to get rid of this job without erasing the hard drive, I will be very grateful.

Sounds similar to the problem I described in this thread.
This is how I deleted the entire queue when I couldn't cancel in Batch Monitor:
1) In the Finder, select the menu item Go->Go to Folder...
2) Enter /var/spool/qmaster
3) Trash the folder(s) that you see in that folder
4) In Compressor, select the menu item Compressor->Reset Background Processing...

Final Cut Pro X: cancelled exporting process, file still on computer, but where?

HI!
I was exporting a project from Final Cut Pro X, but I cancelled to process. I had chosen to save the file to external storage. My computer was processing the file to my computer and now after canceling there is file with size over 30 gigabytes on my computer but I don't have any idea where it is?
I was exporting the project using compressor settings -not the best one choice, but the only thing I want now is to find the missing file and delete it.
Share monitor gives me message: 3x Source file /var/folders/b4/y9pp857j2dx5mq4yp6nw3gqm0000gn/T/259EE137-52C2-47CD-AA69-DFAEB7 37E3B7.export-seq-id not found

Hi,
I didn't change the file name in the Save dialogue box and yes -I have certainly searched with spotlight and used all kind of methods to find the file.
And there hasn't ever been any problems when canceling the process before this time.
But I know much more after diagnostics in Apple repair service in Apple Authorized Service Provider (or what ever is the right term...). Like I wrote before, it's possible there are failures on hard drive and if the file has somehow got to the damaged place on hard drive, it's may be impossible to find the file without professional help. That's maybe not
very common issue, but still possible. It will take week or more before I get their answer.
I just hope I would have Final Cut on my iPhone....

This is a long letter I composed to send to apple about my compressor problems. Compressor works fine under another user name and I was told to migrate everything over to that new account, but the tech on apple phone support didnt' want to tell me how. I still have about 40 days of phone support on this software FCP6, but didn't get much on the phone. If you have the time to read though this and can help me with either getting compressor to install on my current user account or help me migrate over to my new one, I can go on and start working with this G5 again. If anyone can forward this onto apple, I would appreciate it.

I am writing with a real problem with my compressor software. I called tech support 4/7/09 and didn’t get a lot of help. I was essentially told to create another account on my mac to see if compressor was on the other account. I was also told to migrate over to that other account. He also said that I could just reinstall compressor and everything would be OK. I logged to the new account I created on while on the phone and got compressor to start. I thought I was good, and since I didn’t feel I was getting support ( I asked to be walked through the process) I hope compressor would run. Later I tried to run a file on compressor – the new account I created, and go an error. I thought the next step was to go though the paper and reinstall compressor.
First I made sure the permissions were correct. Then I removed the user preferences, but I did not find this file com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist. I decided to proceed thinking I may be able to get a clean install. The following files were missing and still are.

Again I went on with the remove and also removed motion like the paper said. When I tried to reinstall compressor from the FCP disc, it wanted the soundtrack discs and the live type discs. I though this was a bit much for having to install just compressor and motion.
OK, so after an hour of installing all the required discs, I did the software update and compressor would start, and I had the toolbar, but I couldn’t start a batch or open a file. When I tried to close compressor it said files were in the queue. Now when I logged out and logged on to the new account the tech had me create, compressor worked fine this time…under a different user account.
So this is what I need from you guys. I have been scouring the apple help and support pages asking for someone to help me migrate all my data and preferences from my user account to the one the tech had me create. I can’t find a thing on it and no one is answering my questions. I feel that isn’t possible.
Now I can go on, but this isn’t a very good option. I can save files from Motion, FCP etc, log out and log onto my new user account to use compressor. I would rather not do that. I like to export to compressor and make multiple files for different .

1. I need to fix compressor under my user account that I have had for 4 years on this G5
2. I need to be able to migrate to the new account I created and be able to have all my permissions as well as access to all data and other computers on my network. I also need to be able to log into this account on start up.

Usually they are good about support when you are under warranty. I have some time left on this software. I was just really surprised to get pushed to a white paper so fast and told, "to fix it myself". I have to give the guy credit, he did help me make another user account, but he just told me to migrate my data, and didn't tell me how when I said that I wasnt' sure how to do it.
FCP, is the problem on my system, not OSX. OSX didn't cause the issues in the first place. I also tried the compressor repair on numerous occasions and it didn't work. i am missing files on the install.....after three installs, I would think they would be there. That machine runs fine. Runs AE CS3, DVD Studio and HD on FCP without a hitch. Compressor is messing things up!

Compressor wont open and crashes fcp

i searched the forums for this problem couldnt find any..i want to export my project to compressor..but compressor quits "unexpectedly" (although becoming quite expected) it also crashes final cut. i tried to open compressor from the finder and it crashes. any help would be appreciated..thanks

Have you done the normal maintainence routines, repair permissions, run diskwarrior, run the cron routines using something like macjanitor, etc.? run ram tests using the hardware diagnostic disk that came with the computer or using techtoolpro?
Has compressor ever worked on your system?
Are all your drives formatted macosextended (I know this shouldn't make any difference for compressor, but...).
Try removing all peripherals except mouse and keyboard and see if that makes any difference.
When does compressor quit? While it's encoding? If so, what are specs you're using to encode?

I have problem with my script..... when i Click "OK" button, PDF export... also when I click "Cancel" button, also PDF export.... ( i assume, button Cancel should be in seperate group).
can anybody tweak this... so when i click Cancel.... PDF should not export...

Compressor fails on export after transferring to new Mac

The motherboard on my 13" MacBook Pro from mid-2010, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 seems to have died so I had to do a transfer of its hard drive to a new MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.2 and this included Final Cut 6.0.6 with Compressor 3.0.5 both of which worked fine at the point of the motherboard dying on the old MBPro, and I have been able to edit to my heart's content on Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 just fine also on the new one.
I have my custom presets for exports and when I choose to export using Compressor I normally get it to launch, add my custom setting from a set I have for this purpose and away we go.
However, now I had a location warning (it was set to Source although my setting preference was to Desktop on the old MBPro and I hadn't changed it) and when I changed it manually or even automatically (by resetting the default) the export fails.
What could have gone awry in the move of the installed Final Cut Pro 6/Compressor software that causes this failure? If anyone knows- please can you tell me in lay terms as I am beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed by the high learning curve over the past two days. Thank you so much for reading.
(PS: I do have a FCPro 7 upgrade for my retail version of FCPro 6 but hadn't got around to installing it and now just need a familiar sight during this period of editing without also needing to cope with changes there. In case you are wondering if I really mean FCPro 6 and not 7 as mentioned in my "Product")

By copying the applications folder or the FCS apps from within it?
That won't work. an installation of FCS, including FCP 7 and earlier places a lot of files deep inside the Library and System folders.
Copying the apps or using Migration Assistant does not bring those support files over. This is why you are having problems.
The correct way would be to install from the original media (DVD disk set).
That brings it's own difficulties as installing FCS 2 on anything higher than Mac OS X 10.7 is not straight forward - there are several threads here about this.
Installing FCS 3 (2009) should work, at least in theory. Bear in mind that this newer version was discontinued in 2011. Later Mac OS X upgrades have been made since which do not take into account whether FCS will cease to work at some point.
Several people have FCS working on 10.9, including myself. Note that my copy was installed originally in 10.6 and the OS upgraded on top - you won't be able to do this on your new Mac because it will not install or boot into Mac OS X 10.6.
Remove FCP 6, Compressor etc using this free tool: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
Install your FCP 7 from the Upgrade disks - all the files you need for a full installation are on there, you just need the serial numbers as requested by the installer. It's not that different and will still open your projects from FCP 6 without problems.

Compressor wont compress

everything was going fine until yesterday...
when i export files from FCP to compressor, i can input the settings, submit etc.
but nothing happens, usually i get the swirly balls of death. It makes FCP "not respond" until i quit compressor.
ive rebooted, i looked for preferences to trash or anything but could find nothing. i am working on time sensitive projects and feel like i could be in big trouble...any help would be greatly appreciated...

Have you tried resetting background processing?

No compressor or mpeg2 export what next

OK enjoying new Intel Macpro, installed all my editing software, FCP 5.1.4, Motion, DVDSP 4, compressor 2. Lo and behold, big surprise, Compressor 'cannot connect to background process'. In the past this app has been a curse for me but I always had a QT mpeg2 export option so I reached for it and I no longer have it although I have QT pro.
Followed apples exhaustive and exhausting troubleshooting procedure ( into two days now with this painful goose chase )
updated everything but still 'cannot connect to background process'. Even exported a QT movie and tried importing it into Compressor but same result.
I imported the qt movie into DVDSP and it encoded it but I've no control over what its doing so what else are my options for encoding mpeg2?

We see that the methode ReportDocument.export() takes a lot of time. When the user closes the window, sql server is still executing the query for the report. Is there a way to cancel the query in sql server when the user closes the window.

Encodeing through Compressor: Will not export 16:9

I am exporting clips for YouTube and want to use Compressor so I have a setting I can use all teh time without having to input the setting my company uses. Before YouTube went widescreen, everything was peachy keen. But now we have to export 16:9 no matter what.
The problem I have is no matter how I change the settings, when exported using Compressor (either from FCP or from a file), it squashes it to 4:3. I know this because our clients are getting smart and want the 16:9 so we produce it. But a few want 4:3 but want it to fill YouTube. So I have even edited it using anamorphic wide screen, exported it wide screen, and no matter What, Compressor still exports it at 4:3.
I have told it 100% of source (it picks a ratio), I have told it 720:480 Anamorphic, 640:480 16:9, even cropping it. Nothing works.

That is where you go wrong. Web video is supposed to be square pixels, not anamorphic.
If you want to letterbox your 16:9 video in a 4:3 frame, I would recommend nesting your anamorphic sequence in a non-anamorphic sequence in FCP before choosing File > Export > Using Compressor. There is a bug in the current version of Compressor. When adding padding in the Geometry tab, the letterboxed area becomes dark gray, and not black like it should be. Until this is fixed, I would not recommend applying padding.
If you just want regular 16:9, set the width you want i.e. 640 and set the Frame Size to Custom (16:9) in the Geometry-settings in Compressor.

Seeing a clip in compressor vs actual export file

i am having issue exporting out of Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 using compressor... Once I have clicked export using compressor, compressor opens. I export the file to my desktop. At that time, compressor opens. However, when i preview clip in compressor, clip is one single clip in project, not the entire sequence. I took the export and put into trash, went back in final cut and exported again, now the video is correct, however, the audio is coming from the one clip. I have exported many projects out to compressor over the past few months, however, this is the first time i have experienced this issue.... Any help would be greatly appreciated....

I am trying to export the entire timeline. I have the sequence file highlighted when exporting... The other thing that I have noticed is that once the file has been exported, I close Compressor and the Project is still opened in Final Cut Pro... Now when I close compressor, the timeline in Final Cut Pro is missing and the project is closed... It appears that I might have changed a setting somewhere that is causing me the issues... Still having problems... Any Help would be greatly appreciated...
