EFI Boot frequently gets stuck.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=159384
I found this thread and decided to post my own, as mine sometimes works and sometimes not.
I have a similar problem. It seems like this guy cannot boot his system at all. My problem is that it boots sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.
I try like 10 times in a row when it gets stuck (pushing the turn off button and restart) and it sometimes boots. I followed the beginner guide exactly as it was. I did not miss any step. The only thing I am suspicious about is that I updated my linux kernel using pacman. But I did update all the files as was stated on the website:
"Every time the kernel and initramfs files are updated in /boot, they need to be updated in /boot/efi/EFI/arch. This can be automated either using systemd or using incron (for non-systemd setups)."
The current kernel version is 3.7.10-1. Before kernel update, it was working perfectly fine, (well at least I was able to boot every single time, might have occurred if I had booted 500 times instead 50 times or so) Someone here can help?
[bob@arch ~]$ ls /boot/
efi initramfs-linux-fallback.img initramfs-linux.img vmlinuz-linux
[bob@arch ~]$ ls /boot/efi/EFI/arch/
initramfs-arch-fallback.img initramfs-arch.img refind_linux.conf vmlinuz-arch.efi
[bob@arch ~]$ cat /boot/efi/EFI/arch/refind_linux.conf
"Boot to X" "root=/dev/sda1 ro rootfstype=ext4 systemd.unit=graphical.target"
"Boot to console" "root=/dev/sda1 ro rootfstype=ext4 systemd.unit=mtuli-user.target"

One of my systems (with an ASUS motherboard) has sporadic boot problems, too; with mine, it boots about 90% of the time, but when launching the same kernel, it fails about 10% of the time, with no kernel messages appearing after rEFInd loads the kernel. I just live with it, and hit the Reset button when a boot fails.
If you're seeing something similar (inconsistent boot behavior from a single kernel), then please post details of your hardware. If you're seeing different behavior on different kernels, then the problem may be whatever's affecting those who've posted in the thread to which you've linked.

  • Phone frequently gets stuck on calling "calling"

    I'm using a LG VN250 Cosmos, switched from a VX8350 recently.
This phone doesn't have EVDO and the PRL is a different version.
I recently noticed that it will frequently get stuck in "calling..." before timer starts rolling.  Sometimes, it will go for about 90 seconds and "call failed" comes on.   I have this happen even when I have four bars.
i don't recall having this problem with my 8350.
Anyone else experience this? What can I do to fix it?  I've already done what 611 has got to say...

    pull battery and reboot.

PDX_OR, thank you for sharing your concerns about your device. I would certainly like to help with this issue. Normally the steps you tried would resolve issues like this, so we will need to figure out whether this is a network issue or device issue. Do you notice this happening only in certain areas or everywhere you use the device? Did this start right after activating the phone?
    Please let me know.

  • My imac will not boot- it gets stuck on blue screen and will not go any further

Since the last update to Snow Leopard- My computer seems to perform fine, but when I restart the computer or shut it down and then turn it back on- it gets hung. SOmetimes I get the You need to restart screen. But, most times, it goes to the blue screen. The mouse shows up and the dissappears. It shows back up and the dissappears again. Then the system working spiral comes on and off every few seconds. But- it never gets to the sign in screen. ANyone know how to fix? What am I doing wrong?

Does your iMac fail to boot every time or only some of the time?  Here are some things to try:
    - Boot into "safe mode", which will run the equivalent of Disk Utility's "repair disk" operation.
    - Boot from the system install disc that came with that Mac with the "D" key held down to run the diagnostics.  Run them several times to see if any hardware problems are reported.
    - If you can't identify the problem or fix it any other way, download and install the OS X 10.6.7 "combo" updater.
    - If that still doesn't help, try reinstalling OS X 10.6 over the top of what's on the disk.

  • IMac not booting up - getting stuck on blue screen

    Hello, first post here.
I have an iMac which I powered down last night and came this morning to boot it back up. Unfortunately it was having troubles booting up. It got stuck on the blue screen, kinda switching back and forth between two shades of blue and occasionally displaying the mouse and spinning load icon.
I tried restarting it, and curiously there was no startup sound. I tried unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in holding the power button and turned it on with the fan going full blast. I rebooted again, the fan was silent, but the startup sound finally chimed. I then proceeded to try the following:
•Reset the PRAM - no luck
•Tried booting in safe mode - stuck on gray screen with apple icon
•Tried booting into target mode - drive was recognized on my macbook fine
•Tried using disk utility on my macbook with the imac in target mode - repaired the disk, but still wouldn't boot
•Tried restarting it in single-user mode, worked, repaired the disk through that, rebooted and still no luck
•Couldn't boot into CD mode, I believe my DVD drive is broken
Whats interesting is that the hard drive isn't making the usual mechanism sound that I usually hear when its powering up (assuming that's what makes the sound)
So any help is much appreciated. I use this computer in my recording studio and have lots of data I wish not to loose, so any solutions needing a reinstallion/erasing the drive is fine, just keep in mind I need to do a good backup first.
    Thanks

  • My iPod Touch turns on, then gets stuck at the boot logo?

Ok, so i had my iPod Touch 4G since June of 2011. It is currently running iOS 5 and I have never had a problem. I got on the bus this afternoon after school and I tried to turn it on. It would boot, then get stuck at the Apple boot logo. This iPod has never taken damage by anything. If the iPod would be broken (physically), so would my phone, since they are in the exact same spot. I have plugged it into my iHome to charge it, but this morning, the battery was 94%. It was off all day, so the battery wouldn't be dead. Please help, as I had this iPod for the longest time.
P.S. I also tried Lock+Home to reset, and iTunes will not read it.

In my post, it said iTunes will not read it. But I tried to hold the home button.

  • Inbound Queues getting stuck up in PI7.1 for Idoc scenario Mpackg. enabled

    Hi Experts,
We have an issue while processing Single Idocs in PI 7.1.
we have extended MATMAS05 and we are processing these via PI to FTP folder.
The inbound queues are frequently getting stuck.we will be sending atleast 1000 idocs every hour from R3.The processing time is very slow for this interface and its impacting other interfaces which we are currenlty having.
We have followed the webblog by William Li "Step-by-Step Guide in Processing High-Volume Messages Using PI 7.1's Message Packaging" but still the processing time for Single Idocs is very slow.
We have to use single idocs as we will send only the changed materials from R3.
Could you please assist us in overcoming this issue.
    Many thanks in advance.
Points will be awarded for valuable feedback.
    Cheers
    Jyoti

    Hi Jyoti,
    Message Packaging works PI7.0 SP 13 and PI7.1 .
we have to configure Message Packaging manually ,
Step 1) 1. Enable packaging for the integration server
    SXMB_ADM -> Change Configuration (F9), create a new entry:
    Category: RUNTIME  (PI7.1)
Parameters: PACKAGING  Current Value: 1 (for active) .
    Default Value in PI7.0
      Current Value: 0 (for inactive)
Step 2) Create "Package Configuration Type u201C
    Use Transaction SXMS_BCM .
    Configuration Type : Any name.
Description: any text to describe the configuration type .
    Wait Time : 60 seconds
    Number:  100
    Maximum Package Size.  2 MB
    Step 3) Create "Sender/Receiver Definition
Transaction :   SXMSIF (Create New Entry).
    Sender/Receiver ID:PACKAGE_DEMO .
    Description :
Interface Name: Interface Name used in Receiver Determination.
Interface Namespace:   Interface Namespace used in the Receiver Determination .
Step 4: Create "Specific Package Configuration"
    Transaction :    SXMS_BCONF .
    Step 5: Package Monitoring
    TX: XMSPKSTATCNF
Follow above steps and configire message packaging , then you feel diference,
actuualy i configured message mackaging,i am feeling the difference.
if any issues let me know.
    Cheers,
    Raj

My first thought was to wonder why on eath you installed so many video drivers.  That likely would not cause this problem, but it is just silly - and it is a separate symptom of the same underlying problem:
We've now learned that you did not install these drivers, nor the system, but two different people (neither you) have installed and configured your system.  One of these people doesn't even use archlinux, and as you say has "limited knowledge" about it.  Talk about the blind leading the blind ... but you are not blind, you've just opted to close your eyes and not learn anything about your system.
There is no way for us to know what is happening on your system when you yourself are clueless.  You should just start from scratch and do it right following the beginner's guide.  But even this should happen only after you ask yourself why on earth you'd want to use archlinux - it's really not what you seem to be looking for.
As for losing your usb drive ... can't you find another anywhere?

  • SQL developer get stuck frequently

    Hi
I am experiencing a major problems with SQL Developer.
The program seems to hang very frequently and sometimes requires me to kill the process and restart it.
Sometimes it occur even when I am in the process of writing a query(Usually then it will hang for shorter periods of a few seconds)
Other times it occur when I run long queries, and then the program might get stuck completely and I am forced to kill the process.
I am currently using sql developer 1.5.5 with JDK 1.6.0.13
Though I installed before 1.5.4 with built in JDK and suffered the same results.
I use Windows XP with service pack 2.
    Thanks
    Ron

How much physical RAM to you have?
Do you have anti-virus software running?
Some versions of JDK6 are problematic. try upgrading to the latest.
Some of these hangs are due to SQLDeveloper being swapped out of memory and should eventually go away.
If you start sqldeveloper from <sqldev>\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe you will get a java console window. When SQLdeveloper hangs, click on the console window and press ctrl-break. That will give you a thread dump which you can post here and the development team may be able to diagnose the cause of the hang (if it is a hang and not just a slow down)
You may also see other error messages in the java console.

  • Mac Pro gets stuck on the grey screen and won't finish booting

I have a Mac Pro 1, 1 recently (successfully) upgraded to snow leopard that gets stuck on the grey screen with the spinning rainbow cursor (after the apple logo and brief blue screen) and won't finish booting up. This happened after my computer froze up and I had to force quit.  I checked out the forums and I tried all the all the suggestions (like disconnecting peripherals) and appropriate disk utilities, saw no errors with the HD reported, and had no trouble doing a safe boot  (everything works o.k. there) or starting up from the software disk to perform the repairs.  I did notice that during the repair permissions command, it gets stuck in the last few minutes, the CD starts to chug along, and everything freezes and I have to force quit.  This happens every time I try it.  I eventually backed everything up, erased the HD and reinstalled the OS, reset PRAM and NVRAM, but I'm still getting the grey screen on restart.  Tech tool deluxe reports a "fail" on the video RAM, but everything else seems to check out.  Could it be a graphics card issue?   I did notice some funky visual glitches occurring prior to the breakdown.  Any other ideas?

I wouldn't trust Apple Disk Utility to do a hard drive repair, but I would go with TechTool Pro 5/6 if you have that instead of Disk Warrior from Alsoft.
Clone the drive, though you should have some bootable backup clones already; repair the clone; then boot and work from that drive. Always have a working copy of the system.
And off load all your data to other drives.
