H.264 640X480

I have been converting some Videos that I have, right now I can't add any videos to my iPod. The video is setup as h.264 1200kbps, 48000hz 160, 620x380(about) the videos are below the Max that you can have and I can't add the videos to my G5 60GB iPod is anyone else having this problem or do I just need to reset my ipod?

If you check the HandBrake site you will note that neither HandBrake or Instant HandBrake has been updated with the new "Baseline LC" codec which is required for compatibility with the recently added format capabilities. Use MPEG Streamclip v1.8b or ffmpegX v0.9x for manual conversions or QT Pro/iTunes for "pre-set" conversions in the new format or use HandBrake to create iPod compatible files employing the original baseline settings.

  • Media Encoder CC exporting the wrong resolution in custom preset h.264

I have two custom presets in Media Encoder CC.  The original file is an mov Lossless 720x480 from After Effects.  One is h.264 mp4 720x480 and the other is h.264 640x480.  When I encode the resolutions are 872x480 and 581x480 respectively.  Not sure what I have going on here.  The presets worked with the same settings just fine in Media Encoder CS6 on another computer.  Any ideas?

  • Error trying to open source media - Compressor 1.2.1

I have a problem with a movie that have been sent to me. I seem unable to add it to a batch in Compressor or in Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD for the that matter.I'm using QuickTime 7.0.3 adn Mac OS X 10.4.3
When ever I had it to Compressor I get this error:
"Alert: Error trying to open source media file"
    http://www.saruken.com/temp/Compressor-Error.jpg
And when I import it into Final Cut I get this error:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
    http://www.saruken.com/temp/FCP-error.jpg
The settings for the offending movie are:
    Format: H.264, 640x480, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 22.050kHz
    FPS: 29.97
    Data Rate: 90 kbytes/sec
    Key Frame: Every 300 Frames
The only difference between my test, which works fine, and this file is the frame rate (mine is at 25fps) and the number of audio channels (my test was in mono).
The file I was sent was encoded in Compressor, not sure which one - but I think it might be version 2.
The strange thing is it opens in QuickTime fine. I've tried exporting from QuickTime Pro as another h.264 with mono sound with no joy. I've tried saving a reference of the movie to see if that works, again no joy.
The only way I can get Compressor to accept the file is by transcoding it to another codec, like Soreson 3. Then FCP and Compressor are happy.
What I can't work out is why the h.264 file I made is fine (and any file I still make as well), and the one I was sent is not. I'm also having the same problem with an h.264 file I downloaded from Apple QuickTime Trailers, and an another I found on the web.
Updates that have been done recently incase they might have caused the problem are 10.4.3 and installing Motion 2 Trail (since removed), which wanted to update Pro Application Support (this might be the problem?).
    Any help greatly apprieated
    Hami

I just tried the offending movie file on my Powerbook, it has never seen Motion 2 or those Pro Application Support updates - and it gets the same error.
Very odd indeed - any ideas?
    thanks in advance

  • Workflow Validation - Need Help

I'm fairly new to video editing. Everything below I figured out through trial and error until I found a sequence that seems to work well. I just want to know if it's the best I can make it. Storage space is a non-issue. I have no intention of burning to DVD. I'm not interested in sound settings right now. All of the videos sound good enough. I'll mess with that once I've got this workflow tweaked.
I want the following three files at the end of my projects.
    1) HD Quality MP4 files that I can play on a PC or PS3. I chose MP4 because that's the only format so far that I've found that the PS3 plays. I'm open for recommendations. These should always be deinterlaced.
    2) Good Quality MP4 files that I can post on my webserver for relatives to download and watch.
    3) The best master copy I can get from FCE for future edits. Is this a good idea?

Camcorder: HG10 1920x1440 60i (Most of my filming is of kids running around. Open for discussion on 24p?) I've been archiving M2TS files from this camcorder for a year. I do not have the original file structure for my archived footage, just the M2TS files. In the future I can import direct to FCE (Tested it and it works fine), but I like the idea of having my source M2TS files with 5.1 sound in-tact.

OK, I'll bite. I don't understand the point of Step 1 - Use Toast to convert from .M2TS to .MOV.
I could certainly be missing something, but M2TS and MOV are container formats. So you are really doing two things: converting the video/audio from AVC/AAC in an M2TS container to something FCE can edit, namely AIC in an MOV container. I don't understand this step. FCE's log and transfer does this exact same thing (convert AVCHD to AIC), except without the external software. So, why use Toast if FCE already does this? You can also add metadata to the clips as they are imported so you can make heads or tails of them later.
I'm still learning too. So I hope this reads as a question

  • Why is the video audio white noise when I share my project since I updated to 10.0.9

On the movies I created before I updated to 10.0.9, the audio prortion of the video is now white noise. The audio is fine when played back in FCP, but when i share the project it is white noise. When I burn it to BluRay the audio is gone all together. Even when I make a master file to my desktop, it still happens. The music I added to my project is fine. It just the audio that is part of the video clips that is affected. I've turned off the EQ's and Compressors I was using and I even tried moving the audio to the center channel instead of mono. No luck. Need some help. I can't figure this out.

I'm encountering the same problem as the original poster.  In my case, I'm using FCP 10.1 (running on OS 10.9.1).  My source file is DV video imported via FireWire from a DV camcorder.  The clip's audio is fine when playing inside of Final Cut Pro 10.1, but when I share the project the audio track is just white noise.  My share settings are to Apple 720p devices (the subseqent dialog boxes indicate the software has figured out it's really 640x480 video).
Here's what the QuickTime Inspector says about the source file:
    Format:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
    FPS:  29.97
    Data Size:  5.87 GB
    Data Rate:  30.30 Mbit/s
    Current Size:  640-480 (actual)
I tried changing from "faster encode" to "better quality", but it made no difference.
The rather dated version of Compressor I have (v3.5.3) was able to encode the clip to H.264 640x480 and the results are fine.  However, it took way longer than FCP 10.1 (I think it's too old to be taking advantage of the GPU).

  • Macbook with weird streaming issue

    Hi all,
Weird problem so I'll try and lay it out clearly.
We're streaming using Wirecast through an ADSL2+ connection outbound.
The stream works perfectly to a number of macbook pro's and a number of desktop PC's but when I'm using a Macbook the data rate which normally fluctuates around 512kbps seems to go nowhere about 23kbps and can't stream the video.
The same laptop can run the iPhone launch presentation in HD no problems with upwards of 1200kbps. This same laptop has previously worked fine with wirecast I think possibly a setting to do with the encoding has changed though I can't for the life of me figure out what.
The settings we're using in Wirecast are as follows:
    H.264
    640x480
    High quality
    25fps
    Key frame every 50frames
    Bitrate limited to 512kbps
I also tried the same stream on an older 12" Powerbook - and it had the same slow result.
Because of this I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the built in graphics card of the macbook as opposed to the standelone mbpro ones.
Does anyone have any ideas? Like I said, it works fine on other machines, even PC's, just the macbook and the 12" powerbook can't seem to do it.
    Thanks!

Also forgot to mention I downloaded divx for mac too to see if that helped but it didn't.
    Thanks
    x

  • Apple TV resolutions

I've read that the Apple TV supports HD 720p/1080i resolution. But movies for sale on iTunes are 480p, right? There are presently no HD movies available for sale on the iTunes Store. Is that correct?
So, does the Apple TV, over component video connection, upscale 480p iTunes Store movies to 720p or 1080i? Or is it straight 480p? (As a pre-Apple TV purchase test, I downloaded what I'm assuming is a standard-def TV show from iTunes in widescreen (the "Raines" pilot) and played it via the iPod composite audio/video output to my HDTV, and frankly, I was pretty much blown away by the quality. And I'm 99% sure there's no way the iPod video upscales over composite. So it's not a deal-breaker; I'd just like to know if the Apple TV upscales over component connections.)
And, if I were to download some of the sample HD content from Apple, like say the BBC stuff, would it play at 720p or 1080i on the Apple TV, or will it only play at 480p?
Last question, when TV shows first became available on the iTunes Store there were only sold at iPod video resolution, like 320x240 or something like that. Then when they started selling movies, they started selling them and new TV shows at H.264 640x480 -- 480p. Did they go back to all the old TV shows they sell and upgrade those to H.264 640x480, 480p, too, or leave them at the old iPod video resolution? And if they did not, and there's mixed resolution content on the Store, how can I tell if what I'm buying is 480p or the old, lower iPod video resolution -- before I buy it.

I've read that the Apple TV supports HD 720p/1080i resolution.TV supports input file formats up to 720p24/25 (1280 x 720 @ 23.98/24 fps NTSC or 25 fps PAL). On the other hand, it can output various signals compatible with the specific HDTV and interface to which it is connected. E.g., most HDTVs may offer 1080i (1920 x 1080 interlaced), 720p (1280 x 720 progressive), 480p (854 x 480 progressive), or 480i (640 x 480 interlaced) settings via the HDMI or component interface, as well as, 576p (1024 x 576 progressive) or 576i depending on the TV. If connected to a PC DVI interface, a whole new range of PC compatible formats may also be available. It all depends on the TV and the interface used.
But movies for sale on iTunes are 480p, right? No, I believe you are limited to "Baseline" and "LC" H.264 content which limits limits dimension to within 640 x 480 depending on aspect ratio. I have never purchased any files but have downloaded some of the "free" samples encoded as 640 x 480 and 320 x 180 files.
There are presently no HD movies available for sale on the iTunes Store. Is that correct? As far as I know this is correct. (As I say, I am not what you might call a "regular ITMS customer.")
So, does the Apple TV, over component video connection, upscale 480p iTunes Store movies to 720p or 1080i? Or is it straight 480p?Scaling depends on your HDTV, your TV output settings, and the format of the file itself. Generally speaking, a 16:9 file will be displayed at full screen dimension on a "widescreen" HDTV. A 2.35:1 movie will be displayed "letterboxed" top and bottom. And, a 4:3 aspect ratio content will be display "pillared" left and right. If your HDTV has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 and your TV is set to output at 1080i and your input file is 720p, then yes, the movie will be upscaled to match your HDTV. On the other hand, if your HDTV has a 1280 x 720 native resolution and your TV is set for 720p output, then no scaling is required. On the other hand, either of these HDTVs playing the 720p input file via the 480p TV setting would downscale playback for an 854 x 480 or equivalent screen display. In addition, depending on your particular TV model and mode, various "scaling effects" may also be available. These may range form horizontal fill to justified horizontal fills to zooms.
This scaling was done by the HDTV alone. Some models have excellent scalers built in. Others less so. On mine the TV scaler is better than the one in the TV, so I see quite a bit of improvement watching the same file via TV as opposed to my iPod via the TV's composite input.
And I'm 99% sure there's no way the iPod video upscales over composite. No, as indicated above, the scaling here was performed by your HDTV and not the iPod.
And, if I were to download some of the sample HD content from Apple, like say the BBC stuff, would it play at 720p or 1080i on the Apple TV, or will it only play at 480p?As indicated above, it will play at the "scaled" resolution you select as the TV resolution setting and as is negotiated/avialable on your particular HDTV. Be advised, however, that if the input file is encoded at greater than 720p or has a frame rate greater than 24/25 fps at 1280 x 720 encode dimensions, or has a video data rate well in excess of 5.0 Mbps, it may not be playback compatible with the TV device without re-conversion.
Did they go back to all the old TV shows they sell and upgrade those to H.264 640x480, 480p, too, or leave them at the old iPod video resolution? And if they did not, and there's mixed resolution content on the Store, how can I tell if what I'm buying is 480p or the old, lower iPod video resolution -- before I buy it.Based on the "free" samples, I would assume there is still some "mixed" content out there. However, it should be relatively easy to determined what content is which. One way would be to simply play the trailer/preview and see what it looks like. Another, possibly better method is to simply compare the running time against the file size. Since the 480i (640 x 480) "Low Complexity" files are encoded at roughly twice the video data rate of the older "Baseline" H.264 files, it is esay to tell them apart. For instance an average 2-hour "LC" movie will run between 1.2 and 1.6 GBs in file size. A "Baseline" (320 x 240) version of the same file would likely only be 600-800 MBs in size.

  • TV Show in iTunes7

Im recording TV-shows and compressing them in h.264 640x480 and everything works fine. Artwork to.
    All mp4
But now, Ive got this one show causing som problems. First of all, when I set it to TV-show (as with the others) it appears in tv-shows all right. But the funny thing is that it stays in the Movie-folder on the harddrive, and is unable to have artwork attached. It uses a frame from the mp4 as artwork.
Even though is in the movie-folder on the HD, it doesnt show up in the movielibrary.
    Any Ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I believe the default transfer option for TV Shows is to transfer all unplayed TV Shows. If you've already played them, this may be the reason they are not transferring any longer. Double check the preferences:
    1) Connect your iPod to the computer and select it when it appears in iTunes under source (on the left).
    2) Click the TV Shows tab
    3) Make sure it is set to transfer all TV Shows, not just unplayed ones.
    4) Click Apply/Ok

  • Quicktime dropping frames in OS 10.5 Leopard?

I'm creating uncompressed .avi movies in Matlab and opening them in Quicktime Pro. Under 10.4 this worked well, and I was able to export high quality movies into .mov format. Now, under 10.5, when I look at the .avi file in Quicktime, it has missing frames and duplicate frames. The exported .mov file has the same problems.
I am using default settings in Quicktime.
    Anyone else noticed this?
    Cheers
    Rich

    Similarly...
I get jerky quicktime playback of H.264 640x480 x30fps files which were OK in Tiger. Looks like either repeated frames or dropped frames, which happen randomly.
Also, importing files to FCXpressHD3.5 I get very visually distorted playback (like rising ripple bars on vision) These are also present when vision is rendered and played back from the timeline.
I suspect a quickime / Leopard bug is responsible so will see what happens after 10.5.1.

  • Export to mp4 audio out of sync

I have a .mov that I'm trying to export as mp4 for web streaming. Actually this is the 2nd I've done and the first went OK. But the 2nd one loses it's audio sync with the video. audio is slow and gets off by maybe 2minutes by the end of the 45 minutes. The .mov is fine but the sync problem is happening when I export to mp4
    Here is what I've done:
I record a webinar w/screenrecord2 and first I tried quicktime pro export (Boy it took a long time!!) to mp4 w/default (H.264, 640x480) except slower frame rate and set for webstreaming. The audio sync was off.
I read something about hinting helping audio sync problems so I then tried export to a hinted .mov and then to mp4 and still not good audio sync.
Next I tried export the hinted .mov via Streamclip and it went much faster and better video quality than the export via quicktime pro but still the audio loses sync.
The .mov is about 2.5gig and 45 minutes long exported mp4's about 80meg
    Any help is much appreciated!
Is there a way in quicktime pro that I can speed up the audio of the mp4 and get it back into sync??

Hi Robert, i just want to check you are actually going to be posting your material to a real streaming sever i.e quicktime streaming server, darwin server, helix server.
If not then you won't actually be streaming the file, i've been doing a lot of work on streaming servers recently and the first thing i found was that the term streaming is often misused. If you are only posting your file on to a web server for people to view then quicktime has something called quickstart which will allow you to watch the video as it downloads like youtube, this isn't streaming.
With regards to extensions i would be much more inclined to use .mov over .mp4, it will make life easier for your viewers because you can guarantee at some point real player will try and hijack the .mp4 extension for some of your viewers.
    Cheers
PS: Can you post hwre the file originates from, it's possible the problem stems from further up the chain but only comes to light when the file is exported. I find editing in quicktime and then exporting can often be problematic.

  • H264 file crashes CC 2014 but not CC?

I have some screen capture video files that load/import fine in premiere pro cc but crash cc 2014 whenever I try to load or import them. This is happening with the two CC applications on the same computer system, so nothing is changing but the app. I can open an empty CC project, import these files in any manner successfully and work with them, then open an empty CC 2014 project, attempt to import any one of these files and the application crashes every time, whether the import is by dragging the file into the project, using the import menu, or by having the clip already exist in the project and attempting to link the media. Been this way consistently since I upgraded to CC 2014 a few months ago.
The files have non-standard FPS such as 12, 10, etc., which could be the problem, but the question remains why ok in CC but not CC 2014?
    They're all H.264, 640x480, AAC audio.
This is currently the only problem in CC 2014 on this system, even with a large project with over 14,000 items of various origin, so everything else seems to be working fine.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

It's so hit or miss if it's going to flicker.  I'll delete renders and re-render and certain clips will be fine, others are now flickering.  I tried to make a test project that demonstrated this issue, but couldn't reproduce the effect.  RGB Curves and Three Way CC are in my list of effects, as well, where I see the issue.
Just curious, is anyone else working on projects started in other versions/computers?  I've seen it on project started in PPro CC and finished in CC'14.  Saw it again on a project started on Mac in FCP7, converted to CC'14 Win7.  Quite honestly, I haven't been starting projects myself in CC'14 because of the flicker issues.
As a workaround, I was hoping to import the CC'14 project back into CC or Media Encoder CC, but no luck there.
Another issue I've had with CC'14 includes converting a CC project to CC'14, giving it to a CC'14 Mac user and the A/V sync is lost.  We abandoned that collaboration all together because of the issues.  CC'14 has been incredibly unproductive to my workflow, despite the great interface update and various other features added.  I haven't had mystery issues like this since CS4.  I'm keeping our post team in CC as much as possible until the issues are resolved.

  • ITunes Questions (movie format, Gapless, iPod)

to avoid board clutter, i'll post my multiple questions here:
    1. When purchasing a movie, is this a movie one can then burn to a DVD and watch in a standard home DVD player?
    2. What is the format and size ration of a movie purchased through iTunes?
    3. Gapless Playback... is this something that will affect my 60GB video iPod that i've had for a few months?
    4. How will Gapless Playback affect my current library? will it write new info to the tags or what have you?
    5. Is there any new feature which allows us to reveal duplicate songs on the iPod now?
i'm aware of third party stuff, but is it a standard feature which I can't find?
    thank you for any assistance!

    2. H.264, 640x480.
    3. You need to upgrade 5G video iPod to 1.2 software which is automatic when you sync up with iTunes 7 the first time.
    4. Don't know if it write new tag info. In my case, after 1.2 upgrade, gapless playback is automatic. I didn't have to re-upload sound.

  • Video from built-in ISight camera to FC???

    Greetings.
Has anyone ever recorded a video from a 24" LED Apple display using the built-in ISight video camera and then import that into FC?
What I did seems to work, but the sequence has to be rendered.
Here's what I did. Record video from Isight. The QT properties of this video are h.264, 640x480 14.15 FPS (Never saw this before).
Converted that file in compressor to Pro Res 422. The next steps are the ones I'm unsure of, which is the sequence settings. In sequence settings I set the frame size to 640x480, Pixel Aspect to NTSC, field Dom to upper.
The weird part is the frame rate of the original, 14.15.
Either way, what would be the best way to import/convert isight video to something usable in a preferably Pro Res timeline.
    Thanks.
    JL

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for that. I think I must have done HD because the original video file was 4.5MB. After converting to Pro Res 422, that file was over 200MB!
I didn't know there were SD (DV?) Pro Res presets.
So after I do this, will this just drop nicely into an HDV timeline and I won't get a red render bar? I realize the frame size is different.
    Thanks.

  • Optimize your scrubbing?

    Optimize your scrubbing?
I have noticed that certain thing that I imports into iMovie '08 srub really well, but others lag. This is what I have noticed so far.
    • Really big (like 18 GB .dv files) are quite slow to scrub.
    • If I use iSquint to compress the .dv files into an H.264, 640x480, de-interlaced, 1000kb/s movie, then it scrubs much better. Update: I have done this to some other .dv -> H.264 video and it's scrubbing slow.
    • If I break up the 18 GB .dv file into smaller 6-10 minute .dv clips, it scrubs much better. This has been consistent so far.
Does anyone know the secret to this or understand what's going on?
    Thanks!

Skimming through a video is something REALLY cpu-intensive (at least a 1.9 GHz G5). So I would guess that smaller videos are easily rendered. An hour and half video probably lags the cpu. Another clue that the new iMovie (better to be called iClip) is aimed at editing small clips insted that a 2 hours recording.
I really hope that Apple is reading all this...

  • Multicam editing issue

I've been able to successfully create multicam edited squences previously but I've run into a problem I can't seem to figure out. I've followed the steps for creating a multicam form the manual and from Ken Stone's tutorial here http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/multicam_editingmartin.html, but still not luck.
I'm creating a multiclip based on in points in FCS2. The videos I'm using are H.264, 640x480, 29.97fps, the data & audio rates are different.
What's happening is after adding/creating the multiclip sequence the clip angles are not playing in the viewer and only one angle plays in the canvas. When I select the second angle I get a red render line above the entire clip. The RT settings are limited to just "Use Playback Settings" and "Full Quality".
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    Jerry

The problem is very likely coming from the fact that FCP doesn't support h.264. It's a delivery format, not an editing format.
You'd be much better off transcoding these files to a supported editing format such as DV then creating the multiclips.
