Help choosing capture, sequence and export settings?

Hello, Im new to Final Cut. Im using final cut pro 6.0.2 and trying to teach my self the basics of this program. I Shoot with a Canon GL2 in the 16:9 setting and I'm not sure what the optimal settings are for the sequence, capture and export settings. Someone recommended the DV NTSC anamorphic for capture and sequence settings which seems to work fine except when I export to QT movie it appears to be displaying in 4:3 instead of how it previews which is 16:9. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi CJ,
Welcome to the discussion agora,
...the DV NTSC anamorphic for capture and sequence settings which seems to work fine except when I export to QT movie it appears to be displaying in 4:3 instead of how it previews which is 16:9.
That's normal. Are you watching it in QT? QT displays square pixels while your movie has rectangular ones.
Go to QT main menu>Window>show movie properties>presentation check box and change *conform aperture*.

  • Right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6, video with still images

I am trying to run a video on my website (self hosted). This video, made with Premiere Pro CS6, consists of still images with different video effects.
This video is only 50 seconds, but when I transform this in the ogg, webm and mp4 format, I obtain file with large size and the quality is not good.
Could you please guide me to find out the right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6 to obtain a video for the best possible quality on the web?
A precise description of the settings would be awesome.
    Thank you
    Silvia

Make the export setting the resolution you want to use on the web.
Make the sequence settings accordantly to these export settings

  • Help with sequence and export settings

    hi
need to edit some clips made with camtasia using the tech smith codec
first i convert clips to dvd using stoki converter
then when i start prem cs4 i not sure which settings to use in the "new sequence" window under the editing mode drop down
also not sure of the settings at export settings under the format drop down
need to maintain the best quality
    thanks

For the answer to "what Sequence Preset?" you will want to match your Imported footage 100%, even if that means choosing the Desktop Preset, and then customizing all aspects of it, to match.
For the Export, start with "how do I intend to deliver this material?" That will give you the basic settings, and then you can tweak those to suit. How do you plan to deliver the material?
    Good luck,

  • Ideal import and export settings to make a master (uncompressed file)

editing in FCP VERSION 6.0.5 ON A MACBOOK PRO. The footage I'm working with is one 26 GB Quicktime file (16 minute duration), standard definition, 725 x 576, 10 bit uncompressed.
Basically I need to make this file, which is a short film, 1 minute shorter to be eligible to enter it into the Cannes Film festival next week.
What would be the ideal import and and export settings to make a new master e.g. to create a new file that is most uncompressed.
I very much appreciate your help!

It seems that every time you reply your goal has changed.
If you're worried about the self-contained movie requiring FCP to open, that's a simple fix. Right-click on the file and choose Get Info. In the Info window, change the 'Opens With' to QuickTime Player. You'll maintain the best quality and others won't need FCP to open it.

  • Filmic-look, Sequences, and Exporting

I shot various clips at 1920x1080 24fps and 1280x720 60fps (for slow motion scenes) using my Canon t3i. I'm using Premiere CS6 to turn this footage into a short filmic-looking video recapping my trip.
My questions lie in sequence settings and export settings. I want the video to have a cinemascope aspect ratio (2.35:1). Should I use two different sequences-- one for the 24fps video and one for the 60fps? And when I go to render the video to finish it, do I render it at 1920x818 (2.35:1) or 1280x545? I want it to be maximum HD quality, but I'm sure that with my 1280x720 footage I won't be able to have a 1080p video.
I apologize for my lack of understanding of sequences and resolution settings. I'm slowly learning!
    Thank you,
    Josh

Thanks for the response, Jim. So when I want to slow down my 60fps clips, do I just drag those clips into the timeline of the normal 720 24fps sequence, and then just reduce the speed to 50%?

  • Import and Export settings and presets

    Thanks in advance.
Where can I save all the different import and export settings? Like if I just want to export Quicktime with audio and save that setting so I don't have to reset it every time. Thanks

I don't think you can in QT... You can in FCP by selecting CUSTOM as your setting when exporting to QT. Just rename the settings from custom to what you'd like it to be.

  • What project settings and export settings to use ?

So, after some trial and error i give up and need some huge help. (7.0 Pro)
I have recorded some footage through a game running at 1920:1200 resolution. So the question is what project settings should i choose under project, look at the picture below for example. Some times i get a large black area around the finished video, while one time it came out as a 4:3 vid....
    http://bildr.no/view/468733
Further more, when i am done editing i want to export it uncompressed to the disk in the same format 1920:1200 (which is 16:10). Which settings should i then choose?
    http://bildr.no/view/468734
Thx for any help you might be able to provide. Btw! Basically, what i want is just plain editing, no cropping of edges, resizing etc, i just want to take the raw video, edit it, and make a new file out of it with the same properties as the raw vid (source).

Your pixel aspect ratio and field order are wrong. You want PAR set to "square pixels" and field order set to "Progressive (None)". Do the same for your export settings.

  • Camera, Application and Export Settings.

Could someone download and analyze this .rtfd (mac TextEdit file) and tell me if it looks like I might be, sort of, on the right track with this stuff. Also, what I could do to improve the overall video while keeping processor performance high (outside of new hardware).

  • Unrendered Audio - sequence and clip settings are the same

When I drag a clip to the timeline a redline appears on the top of the timeline. I know this means that there is a setting issue between the sequence and the clips. All the settings are the same with the exception of the:
audio format - Clip: 8 bit integer
    Seq: 32 Bit Floating
    Audio Rate - Clip: 48000 5kh
    Seq: 48.0 KH

Does anyone know why I need to render this clip?

  • Help with computer setup and PP settings for faster/better previews

I have been using Cyberlink PowerDirector software for video editing.  It is very easy to use and can do quite a bit.  It was also accelerated by Intel HD graphics built into my system, so I could see a lot of my work at a pretty high resolution in real time.
However, I wanted to see what PP was capable of, specifically the Warp Stabilizer.
So I downloaded PP and have been trying to use it, but it was just slow as heck to preview anything (chop stop chop stop...), with render times being insanely long (12 hours for five minutes of footage vs. about 30 minutes with PowerDirector).
Thinking it was a problem with my system and I needed to get a real graphics card, I got an EVGA GTX 670 (FTW) for $400, and popped it in.  I modified the text file so PP would see it as a compatible card, opened up PP and changed the engine to the new card.
Things are faster, but I was expecting a lot more.  Here's what I'm doing:
    1. Shooting Canon 5D mark II (now III) clips 20-60 seconds long, 1080p.
    2. Import to PP and sequence them.
    3. Adding effects:
         A. Top adjustment layer for fast color correction (white balance)
         B. Next adjustment layer: 3-way color, shadow/highlight, unsharp mask, fast blur
         C. Video 1 layer has the clips with warp stabilizer applied to each, and dissolves.
My final output will be 720p.  ( I shoot 1080p so the Warp Stabilizer will have more to work with, and I can crop without feeling like I'm degrading quality).
    My system: i7 2600k, 16GB RAM, GTX 670 graphics, 120GB SSD "Max IOPS", 2TB 7200rpm internal, 2TB 7200rpm external (USB 2.0, backup drive).
I can currently preview at 1/4 res in realtime.  I would really like to be able to get to 1/2 res (of course full would be great).  One thing that worries me is that GPU-Z indicates that my GPU is only running at about 2% while previewing, while CPU usage is at around 50%.  I was under the impression that the Mercury thing would use GPU/CUDA to process previews and effects that are supported (that includes Warp Stabilizer).
I've looked at Sequence Settings and fiddled with Preview File Format and size, but that doesn't seem to do anything.  I'm currently looking around at codecs (Cineform, DNxHD), but don't know if those can help.
What settings should I alter to get better previews?

Well I'm still pretty clueless about this, but for anyone who is looking at this and wondering, here's what I've gleaned:
    1.  After Effects, especially CS6, makes much more and better use of graphics cards than does Premiere Pro.  I'm guessing that PP will, in future versions, make better use of them.  For now, no need to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on one.
    2.  Update the software.  PP and AE both performed substantially better after installing the .01 update from adobe.  After you install the update, be sure to re-do the CUDA hack, if necessary.
    3.  As it stands, money for a PP system is best spent on a processor, as in the newest Intel (currently Ivy Bridge), and overclocked.  This is where performance happens.  I'd say on a 2012 system, 16 GB RAM should be considered a minimum for video editing, and 24 or 32 if you can afford it.  More than that probably won't be utilized.  Hard disks can affect performance, but I don't think it's a bottleneck unless you're doing something that requires VERY fast/large reads and writes (4k source?).  Most people who have high-end editing stations also have a bunch of drives in RAID, but if you look at the performance chart, the SECOND highest scoring tester did not use RAID (though did use a presumably fast and large SSD).
Keep in mind that all of this has to do with RENDER speeds.  I still don't know what the bottleneck is for PREVIEWS, but I'm just going to assume it's the same.

  • New FCP user trying to learn the correct project and export settings for HD

Hi, I am a novice and have used FCP on my laptop for university projects only, and now have been asked to cut a trailer for a 7 min HD Pilot.
    A. I had to work in a different part of the country for the last 2 weeks therefore making this more problematic for myself long term hence:
    B. I have only been given a QT file of the pilot, as to cut a rough idea of the trailer, which I will then have to redo with the original HD files, when I return to them tomorrow.
    C. I created a low res QT to work with in FCP and have probably set up my project in a odd/wrong way and need to export this DV low res version for viewing by tomorrow, and I would ideally like it to look like the right aspect ratio and what not.
I know very little about ratios and interlaced and progressive files, and this project has been shot manly on a digital SLR camera for the animation, it has After Effects files and with sections of live action which I think was shot in HD 'i' mode.
I would like to learn quickly the sort of setup I should have for this kind of project, how I should export this low res DV version for viewing and for exporting the final HD project with what settings I should use.
I am sure I should have detailed more information, but as it is im not sure what is relevant. I can find out if im pointed in the right direction.
    Hope someone can help
    Cheers
    Kat

    B. I have only been given a QT file of the pilot, as to cut a rough idea of the trailer, which I will then have to redo with the original HD files, when I return to them tomorrow.
Well, this will make cutting more difficult. Because a low res version of the trailer will not have any timecode...nothing that references the main movie. So you will do the cut with the QT movie and then have to go back and eyematch-cut the trailer with the high res footage. Not fun and very time consuming. Not to mention that you will be cutting with the mixed audio of the trailer, including music and that will not sound right when you cut the trailer with the new music.
You need a QT version of the movie that contains the timecode of the original master (using media Manager to recompress to DV or other offline codec will do this), and you REALLY need to get split track audio. If they are record producers, they'll know what that is.

  • GOPRO Hero 2 720 60 FPS, settings/presets and export settings.

I use a gopro hero 2 to make some short films.   I made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwWU83oGGx0  video with DSLR 720 60 FPS preset, and let the program choose export. • Sequence and Output Settings Question

    Hello all,
I'm know this is a rookie question, but it's often hard to find a definitive answer to these types of things.
    Here's my specific situation:
99% of my final output will be SD NTSC DVD-progressive for corporate shows, and I create almost all of my own content, or use stock animations from companies like Digital Juice. Rarely do I ever deal with DV captured from tape.
Given the final output, and given that my generated media can be basically whatever codec I want, what's the best sequence settings to use in FCP, and the best way to output it for nice, crisp, progressive DVD playback?
    Thanks!
    SyddyS

Mac Pro 2x3.0 Dual, 4GB Memory, ATI Radeon 1900
Also, on another note, I'm currently in a REALLY rare situation for me where I'm recording to DV tape. Everything looks great except for all titling created by FCP. Does FCP titling just suck? Anything in red or green hues has vertical lines running through it.
    Thanks!

  • Help with Sort sequence and reset preferences

    Hi,
I have checked the "sort" checkboxes and the "sort sequence" in my first 5 columns of the sql report. The sequence are straight 1,2,3,4,5.
I have also create two buttons. The first one that will trigger a pl/sql that would execute RESET_USER_PREFERENCES built-in package, and a second button that just submit. The page submit to itself by default.
It appears that the Reset Preferences does not follow the "sort sequences". Take a look at: http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=15031:2:
Check what happen with the second column OBJECT NAME: I expect to see CUSTOM_AUTH first and then CUSTOM_HASH second once you Reset User Preferences. Interesting is that when I just press the refresh button, then i get what I want, but i think that is just coincidence as there is not guarantee that the data are going to be displayed in that order once you start deleting and inserting in the middle.
Any help in order to understand the "sort sequences" concept is appreciated.
    Thanks

  • NB100 help please with fan and graphics settings

Hi, I have just bought the NB100 and have a few questions I hope someone can help me with.
The fan icon goes grey or white depending on the settings using FN and F6, but I can feel no difference in the air around the right hand grill. Is it on when the icon shows white or grey? does it actually work?
My second question is about the graphic settings. The intel power option that is displayed when the graphivs icon in the task bar is double clicked appears to be disabled. There are sliders, automatic brightness, and power saving, but none can be selected, how is it enabled?
My last question is about games. I tried a few old ones that were not graphic intensive, Deus Ex, and sins of a solar empire, but I had problems getting at text boxes that needed a response, and in the case of Deus Ex it said the graphic drivers were not compatable. Has anyone had ant success with games? I travel a lot and thought I would like to have one or two installed other than card games etc.
    Thanks and regards, Brian

Sorry, F6 was a typo, I meant F8. How do you tell if it has changed the speed of the fan? I wet my finger and held it next to the grill on the right hand side but could feel no difference nor hear any sound for the changes from white backgound to grey background on the fan icon.
I may have not been clear on the graphics question. On the tray there is an icon for graphic options. When it is pressed, one of the selections is graphics properties. I selected this, then on the box that appeared, I pressed display settings to see if I cold get around the scrolling problem, and saw a box "power scheme". I selected that and another box appeared called power settings, I assume for the graphics as it is called "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile". this has some greyed out boxes called Intel Automatic Display Brightness, Intel Power saving technology with a slider going from Max quakity to Max battery, and another box called Intel display refresh rate technology. All this is greyed out. I have selected varios options regarding overall power schemes in the control panel and they work OK.
