Sequence and Output Settings Question

Hello all,
I'm know this is a rookie question, but it's often hard to find a definitive answer to these types of things.
Here's my specific situation:
99% of my final output will be SD NTSC DVD-progressive for corporate shows, and I create almost all of my own content, or use stock animations from companies like Digital Juice. Rarely do I ever deal with DV captured from tape.
Given the final output, and given that my generated media can be basically whatever codec I want, what's the best sequence settings to use in FCP, and the best way to output it for nice, crisp, progressive DVD playback?
Thanks!
SyddyS

Mac Pro 2x3.0 Dual, 4GB Memory, ATI Radeon 1900
Also, on another note, I'm currently in a REALLY rare situation for me where I'm recording to DV tape. Everything looks great except for all titling created by FCP. Does FCP titling just suck? Anything in red or green hues has vertical lines running through it.
Thanks!

  • Sequence and Capture Settings Help Needed

    Hi there...
Need some advice on setting my Sequence and Capture Settings in FCP 6.0.4.
I have a Sony HDR-SR1 (AVCHD) and I know I how to bring the footage in through "Log and Transfer", but I'm not sure what I should be bring the footage in as.
Should I capture with HDV, or can I bring the footage in as ProRes 422 (HQ)? Once captured, should the Sequence be set to HDV - 1080i/60, or should it be set to the ProRes setting? Or, does AIC still play a factor in this and I should choose that?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I bring in as HDV, the file size will be very large. But if I bring it in at ProRes 422, the filesize will be smaller, but how much will I lose in compression?
Also, does anyone know if I'm stuck shooting 1080i/60 or can I get 1080i/50 or 720p/24/25/30?

The orginal footage is not DV, it is DVCPRO 25. I am capturing in the DV setting because of the length of the footage. The DVCPRO deck doesn't have a firewire output.

  • Sequence and Capture Settings Match, Still Need To Render

I am capturing my video footage through a AJA Kona board using the SDI input. I have set my capture setting in FCP to 525 29.97 DV, and have set my sequence setting to match, also 525 29.97 DV. Yet when I overwrite the footage to the the sequence it needs to be rendered. I was under the impression that if the sequence and capture settings match I would not have to render. Is this not true?

The orginal footage is not DV, it is DVCPRO 25. I am capturing in the DV setting because of the length of the footage. The DVCPRO deck doesn't have a firewire output.

  • Right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6, video with still images

I am trying to run a video on my website (self hosted). This video, made with Premiere Pro CS6, consists of still images with different video effects.
This video is only 50 seconds, but when I transform this in the ogg, webm and mp4 format, I obtain file with large size and the quality is not good.
Could you please guide me to find out the right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6 to obtain a video for the best possible quality on the web?
A precise description of the settings would be awesome.
    Thank you
    Silvia

Make the export setting the resolution you want to use on the web.
Make the sequence settings accordantly to these export settings

  • Unrendered Audio - sequence and clip settings are the same

When I drag a clip to the timeline a redline appears on the top of the timeline. I know this means that there is a setting issue between the sequence and the clips. All the settings are the same with the exception of the:
audio format - Clip: 8 bit integer
    Seq: 32 Bit Floating
    Audio Rate - Clip: 48000 5kh
    Seq: 48.0 KH
The clips which is 1 1/2 HR takes 6 minutes to render.
Does anyone know why I need to render this clip?

And if you still have the problem, why not convert it to AIFF via QT?

  • Sequence and Hot spot questions in Capt 5

I am trying to set up a questionary in capt 5, there are two options that i have not idea how to edit or what would be the best way of using (sequence and hotspot)
    any helps is greatly appreciated

You just insert both questions using the Quiz, Question slide option. I would recommend to use the workspace Quizzing, because you'll need both the Quiz Properties and the Properties panel. In the Quizzing workspace those panels are in different docking stations.
In the Quiz Properties panel: choose the number of items for the Sequence question, and the points to be attributed. You have the choice also to have the user drag the items or to use a dropdown list (Answer Type) and the numbering style. You can choose the buttons to add, eventually actions to be performed on Success/Failure and reporting (which will be checked by default). Then you have to edit all the text captions, you can use the Properties panel if you want to change their style.
For hotspot: in Quiz Properties panel choose the number of hotspots you want to have and the score. The hotspots are by default the blue rectangles, all checked as correct (watch the small tick at the bottom right). You can drag the hotspots over the image or wherever you want them to be. You can indicate the hotspot to be incorrect in the Properties panel of that hotspot (uncheck Correct answer), where you also can indicate if a hand cursor should appear, and the style of the hotspot.
    Hope this helps?

  • Help choosing capture, sequence and export settings?

Hello, Im new to Final Cut. Im using final cut pro 6.0.2 and trying to teach my self the basics of this program. I Shoot with a Canon GL2 in the 16:9 setting and I'm not sure what the optimal settings are for the sequence, capture and export settings. Someone recommended the DV NTSC anamorphic for capture and sequence settings which seems to work fine except when I export to QT movie it appears to be displaying in 4:3 instead of how it previews which is 16:9. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi CJ,
    Welcome to the discussion agora,
...the DV NTSC anamorphic for capture and sequence settings which seems to work fine except when I export to QT movie it appears to be displaying in 4:3 instead of how it previews which is 16:9.
That's normal. Are you watching it in QT? QT displays square pixels while your movie has rectangular ones.
Go to QT main menu>Window>show movie properties>presentation check box and change *conform aperture*.

  • Optical Audio Output Settings Question

    Hey peoples!
Do you guys know.. on either the Macbook or iMac, is there any way to keep a toslink/optical cable plugged in to the digital audio out port, and switch between the internet speakers and the optical through software?
I only need sound on the surround speakers I have connected about half the time, and the other half the built-in speakers are fine. But in Sound settings only "digital out" is selectable when I have the cable plugged in, and I'd love to not have to plug and unplug the cable over and over again.
Thanks in advance for any info/assistance

No, there is a micro switch build into the output jack that tells the Audio MIDI Setup if you have something plugged in or not.

  • Audio feedback for wrong answer in Sequence and Hot Spot Questions

    I am having three issues:
Everytime I close the Quiz Manager after making some changes I get an error message saying I should Presenter has failed and I should resave and restart. See attached screenshot. I think this is also why I am having the two problems below.
I have uploaded the right audio response to use for an incorrect answer. But both my hot spot and sequence questions do not playback the feedback for the incorrect answer. The audio feedback for the correct answer works fine. I have allowed 20 attempts to answer the question.
I want the text for the correct and incorrect message to be the text in the audio feedback. So after I setup the questions I manually edited the Correct/Incorrect text boxes to be the text I want. But everytime I open and close the Quiz Manager, these refresh back to the default values of "Correct" and "Try again!". Is there any way to not allow such refereshing?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

What version of Presenter are you using? Have you tried applying any/all the updates?
    1. Hard to say exactly what is wrong. This may need to be addressed by Support.
    2. I believe that the incorrect feedback audio will only play on the final failed attempt (20th time in your case). This may need some testing to validate, if you change your number of attempts to two, and then answer it incorrectly twice, do you get the audio on the second failure?
    3. This sounds like an issue from early versions of Presenter 7 (7.0.5 resolved this if I remember correctly), but if it is Presenter 9, support may need to know about it.

  • Help with sequence and export settings

    hi
need to edit some clips made with camtasia using the tech smith codec
first i convert clips to dvd using stoki converter
then when i start prem cs4 i not sure which settings to use in the "new sequence" window under the editing mode drop down
also not sure of the settings at export settings under the format drop down
need to maintain the best quality
    thanks

For the answer to "what Sequence Preset?" you will want to match your Imported footage 100%, even if that means choosing the Desktop Preset, and then customizing all aspects of it, to match.
For the Export, start with "how do I intend to deliver this material?" That will give you the basic settings, and then you can tweak those to suit. How do you plan to deliver the material?
    Good luck,

  • Color and output settings for .mov files?

My GH3 shoots either AVCHD, Mp4, or its own variant of the .mov files, up to 60fps and 'all-intra'. Fine and dandy. The .mov files are the easiest to use as they are always just one file, no 'related' files to copy over etc. I'm trying to figure out how to do my grading in Sg, then render for final output so that I can then take that file and port for various possible uses such as dvd, standard computer use, web use ... typical modern stuff.
I've tried setting the timeline to various settings including gamma 1.8 and essentially "none", tried various setting in the render-output panels, using PhotoJpeg or H.264 as the "base" and then trying either no calibration or various choices there ... and still having troubles finding how to match the Sg monitor to the final output.
Any general or preferably specific ideas? I've searched a number of places, and ... this is something that is just mentioned in walk-throughs everywhere I've looked, if it even gets that much. Neither the Adobe movies nor Lynda-dot-com cover this ... and I've spent a couple days doing nothing but this. So ... ideas?
    Neil

Same here, I find it unbelievable this occurs and there doesn't seem te be a solution. Is it something developpers know about but can't solve so ignore all the discussions about it?
It seems so simple to me: whether the monitor is calibrated or not, whatever monitor it is, when I place the exported movie window in Quicktime, and one in VLC, next to the Speedgrade window, all on the same monitor, it all should look the same right?! Ok, so I hear Quicktime does its own calibration while playing.
I'm working on a project now which are product films, the end result is a room where everything is white (not overexposed, all details are in there), the product black and blue, plus a model (brown skin).
I'm including a few screenshots of the same shot in different players. Speedgrade, VLC, Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip. MPEG Streamclip comes closest to the Speedgrade monitor. How can I possibly sell this to my client? This is shown on laptops at presentations, beamers via laptops (probably all Windows), big screens with a built-in mediaplayer etc, and most important: online! on youtube/ vimeo.. Not operated by experts, no control over which player is used.
The films will probably almost always be shown by someone doubleclicking on the file, so it opens in the systems standard movieplayer, Quicktime or Windows Media Player. It just has to look good in this! How do I do this?
When I place the exported clip on top of my Speedgrade timeline, it does change (the whole histogram range shifts brighter).
edit: I now exported with Automatic Color Calibration ON, the results has better contrast/ resembles contrast I see in Speedgrade. Placing this clip on top of my Speedgrade timeline shows almost exactly the same. Export to ProRes4444 AutCC: Histogram expands tiny tiny bit, can't see a change in the monitor it's so small.
Export to ProRes422 AutCC: Histogram expands a bit, you can see a slight change in the monitor (whites bit brighter, black bit darker). But acceptable.
No change in the color differences though! Skin colour varies huge in different viewers, highlights have more green/ more magenta.
    speedgrade
    quicktime
    vlc
    mpeg streamclip
These screenshots look exactly the same as how the colors are in the viewer the screenshots comes from, even when I place this browser window next to it on the same (calibrated) monitor.
    Thanks for any tips..
    Peter
edit 2: The frustration gets worse. Playing the clip (prores 422 with Automatic Color calibration) in Preview (Mac, by hitting spacebar when on the file in Finder) shows EXACTLY what I see in Speedgrade monitor! It feels like the solution is out there somewhere but I can't reach it (cause no one will actually play the video in Preview).

  • Output Settings Question

Which I'm sure has been written tons of times problem is I can't find any info I need on it except for settings when rendering small files like intros maybe 5 to 10 seconds.
I have to do a set of animations that require text, images and efects. Nothing crazy, pretty conservative. I saved the file in Premiere with an 800 x 600  ratio. first I need to saved the file in it's entirety which is almost 900mbs , looks and plays great. Now I will need to optimize this file for either You Tube or an flv. I know I will have to split the files into sections or chapters so there are lets say 8 chapters and the fie is almost 55 minutes so figure an even hour so lets say 8 minutes each. Is this still too much time?
Regardless I just took 5 minutes of finished footage and rendered it in Quicktime, I need to figure out a good aspect ratio like 480 x 360 for You Tube or Flash?
    any help?
    rd

Well, AME includes a preset specifically for YouTube, though I've seen reports of it not working very well or giving less-than-stellar results.
I've developed several encoding algorithms for H.264 that seem to work very well for YouTube video. I've attached screenshots of the one for my SD footage and the one for my HD footage (note the very different finished file sizes). They both give very good results, and the HD version is true 720p HD. I've also got a couple of mid-range encoding algorithms, and if you'd like to see them I'll post them as well. Obviously you may need to adjust your frame size to match your timeline, or you can just use what I've got here and have bars on the top/bottom or sides. (FWIW, the HD version is a direct copy from what Vimeo recommends for their Plus users to use for HD uploads). For both of these, set your multiplexing to .mp4 and "Standard" or "iPod." Audio is 32 bit, 48kHz, 128kbps, AAC, though you could adjust that however you wish. Here's an example of the output of the HD version. Shot with a JVC GY-HM700u at 1920x1080 30p mixed with a small AVCHD camcorder at 1920x1080 60i.

  • Capture - sequence - output settings FC Studio

Hi. I have been using FCS2 a number of years with no probs shooting on a Canon XL1s in frame rate and when rendering in slow mo at 50% everything fine. (Shutter speed at 50)
My results have now changed, slow mo is seriously stepping even when images are not passing through the frame quickly.
When capturing frame rate I am using the following settings
Capture - sequence and output (via Compressor) Progressive.
When adding the captured clip to the time line FCS wants me to change it to bottom 1st interlaced with no obvious improvement in outcome for slow mo work
Have tried permutations of this in each step, interestingly the best result for using a slow motion sequence seems to be to change every step - capture - sequence - output - dvd authoring - all to bottom 1st, but this does seem to lower the over-all look and result in pic quality.
Am I doing something real dumb or is my system playing up?
    cheers
    Philip

  • Filmic-look, Sequences, and Exporting

I shot various clips at 1920x1080 24fps and 1280x720 60fps (for slow motion scenes) using my Canon t3i. I'm using Premiere CS6 to turn this footage into a short filmic-looking video recapping my trip.
My questions lie in sequence settings and export settings. I want the video to have a cinemascope aspect ratio (2.35:1). Should I use two different sequences-- one for the 24fps video and one for the 60fps? And when I go to render the video to finish it, do I render it at 1920x818 (2.35:1) or 1280x545? I want it to be maximum HD quality, but I'm sure that with my 1280x720 footage I won't be able to have a 1080p video.
I apologize for my lack of understanding of sequences and resolution settings. I'm slowly learning!
    Thank you,
    Josh

Thanks for the response, Jim. So when I want to slow down my 60fps clips, do I just drag those clips into the timeline of the normal 720 24fps sequence, and then just reduce the speed to 50%?
