This is what I call "Read the  Fine Prints" carefully before making purchases. Consumers must endowe themselves with knowledge ahead of time before making purchases on anything nowdays. Whether or not they offer it isn't something the users on here can do about it since this is a user forum not a HP support Forum. The reason why the consumer laptop is less expensive is because it doesn't have all those other extra stuff that is why they can sell it less in consumer version. What ever the demand is for inexpensive laptop and less extra stuff there will be a market for it. The consumer themselves must do the homework and find that laptop will best fit their needs and what other extras do they need for their line of work not what is pleasing to eye or least expensive to get.
I agree and admit that part of this is my error on my side.
I take this as a lesson learnt - never purchase an IT device solely based on the specifications; you have to really drill yourself to determine what you really need from your device and it's manufacturer (in my case: ADP). You also have to think long and hard because sometimes customer service is usually something that we think we do not need; usually in early stage or period of the ownership of the device, but if you plan to use it long-term, and especially when you need maximum up time and stable operability, a good customer service is probably what you want to have with your device purchase.

  • Have Care Pack Certificate but cannot reach support for home fix

G62x-400 Notebook. I purchased Care Pack Certificate for "In Home" repair. Since new, the PC has had a very noisy fan, sometimes actually screaming. When I called tech support, I waited forever. When finally connected, the agent put me on hold "to speak to a hardware person" but never returned to the phone. HP says it has "aware-winning service". I have not been impressed.
All I need is for someone to fulfill the terms of the Care Pack and come to my place and fix the computer. Why is that so difficult to make happen?

I just chatted with a HP representative, within 1 minute I have been answered and 20 minutes later I got a service order for a repair.  I don't have the in-home repair though but you may try doing it, I found out they replies fast.

  • K12 school districts and iTunes U sites?

Is any K12 school district able to get an iTunes U site? Currently individual schools and districts post collections on their state site (for USA)?
Does the new iTunes U app change how teachers post their collections/courses?

https://eduapp.apple.com/ for Public Site Manager Enrollment says:
You are applying on behalf of an educational institution or K-12 District. iTunes U is a free service available to qualifying K-12 school districts as well as two- and four-year accredited, degree-granting, public and private colleges and universities.
In the past, K-12 school districts needed to use the iTunes U site provided by the state (in this case, Michigan). Now it appears a district can get their own iTunes U site, if they "qualify" (see statement above). I'm wondering if this is a policy change and if a K-12 district can build their own iTunes U site...

    Hi,
In addition to what Ken said, I would suggest that you give Edge Animate a shot as well.
Creative Cloud is available as trial version for 30 days and almost all creative software is bundled with the Creative Cloud. Tutorials are included for each of the products on the respective sections of the website. For instance, this site Website builder | Download free Adobe Dreamweaver CC trial gives you access to the trial version as well as tutorials.
I suggest that you go to http://creative.adobe.com and explore the various options available.

  • HT5029 Calendar -- I need to subscribe to a school district calendar which log-in requires ID and password

For supervision of academic performance of child, I need to subscribe to a school district calendar which has teacher-supplied info respecting the student. On the web with Safari, there is log-in ID and password required for access. When looking at the data page, it contemplates an iCal subscription as the means of seeing it. Calendar.app can't seem to get there, and I assume it has to do with the fact that ID and password are required. Calendar does not seem to offer me a way to subscribe to a calendar which subscription requires log-in ID and password.

  • How can I get my school district approved to be a part of the iTunes U?

I just found out that I was denied entrance in becoming a Public Site Administrator.
    Here's what the email says:
Thank you for submitting your recent application to become an iTunes U content provider. Based on the iTunes U requirements for inclusion, we are unable to accept your application at this time.
iTunes U is a free service available to qualifying K-12 school districts, as well as two- and four-year accredited, degree-granting, public or private colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. All qualified institutions and content providers must enter into an iTunes U Service Agreement to be eligible to use the iTunes U service. Apple reserves the right to determine eligibility.
Does anybody have any recommendations on who to contact to get my school on the approved list?

You need to contact your school's adminstration and ask them to complete the iTunes U Service Agreement with Apple.  An institution must complete a formal written agreement with Apple under the terms of the service agreement.  I've never heard of an individual instructor, teacher or professor doing that, as it is an institutional agreement, so usually involves someone from administration setting that up.
    https://edu-vpp.apple.com/qforms/start/itu?dst=enroll_marcom&pdname=itunesu#main :enroll_marcom:NEW_RECORD@itunesu@null@null@true
Note that while a free service, it is a contractual agreement between the Institution and Apple, so if you are doing this, you need to have the authority to enter into a legal contract on behalf of your institution.

  • Re-thinking public school education in U.S.

I was thinking that it's been a long time since public schools were introduced, and times have changed.
It's hard for most high school graduates to get decent jobs and not all can go to colleges even with grants and aid.
Although many at that "age" of graduating want to get out of the house and get on their own, some do want to focus on some aspect of an interest they developed in public school.
Why not re-think the whole system and make it grade K through 14 instead of 12 ?
For the last 2-3 years make the focus a choice of a variety of "real" interests and potential areas of real employment ...
Like, programming, networks, electronics, bio physics, chemisty, hvac, auto mechanics, health care, ( dont know what to call this one...but its helping senior citizens manage their affairs and networking for housing, health care, etc )...
    And so on.
Some of this would be kinda like "technical school" stuff, and some would be similar to a community college WITHOUT the humanities "pre-requisites" often found in those schools.
Kids would have a MUCH better chance to find a job after graduation. They would also be much more "focused" and motivated by then ...making it easier to score high on college entrance exams if that is their choice instead of trying to find a job right away.
In short, the public school system is not working too great in part because kids today have to learn about 40 per cent MORE than I had to when I was their age...so many new things and technologies today...more of everything !  And we try to fit them into a world that demands so much with so little real chance to learn what they need to even FIND a job they are qualified for. Years ago companies would "train" their new employees and it was a long term relationship, between employer and employee.  That is obviously going out the window, as things are not only outsourced to other countries but the global open trade stuff is putting so much more pressure on all business to be extremely competitive and frankly can't afford to train people if they can possibly avoid it.
New public school system would solve a lot of stuff...yet nobody has even mentioned this 14 year potential..
I think it's a good idea, and better than the alternatives being proposed ( longer school days, longer school weeks, more testing to insure students are all up to speed by some state standard or fed standard...
Why keep putting more pressure on kids to be supermen ( and women ) when part of this period in their lives should be balanced with actually "enjoying" life and discovery and growing up emotionally and the arts etc ??

Though I have attend more colleges that probably the next 3 people combined, I am a big proponent of the "technical school" concept, and have sat on a couple of boards.
It is probably my jaundiced view of "public education," however, that gets in the way. What I found was that the steering committees were highly political and all, that I was a part of, had some "agenda," to push.
It is probably far to late to change the structure, but I would advocate for State sponsored, but NOT State run, separate technical colleges. In a few instances, I was associated, or at least around privately endowed technical schools, with zero outside influence, once one got past accreditation. Those institutions did not have any agenda, and had no State educational direction, other than what the certificate, or diploma meant. Professors were hired for their abilities and their knowledge. There was no tenure. There were few standardized measures of results, other than from the students, who walked out the door. Most of these professors were also working in the various industries. In many cases, though the school had an endowment, those industries picked up some of the tab, often with services, like free film processing, access to professional equipment, etc.
In those limited cases, the students did get some theory, but more time was spent on actually doing.
When I was in film school (within a State University system), I managed to take many extra classes from such institutions, just to learn more. In each of those cases, it was for the learning of additional techniques, access to more equipment and services. I do not fault having done so. Yes, some were better than others, but that is life. I took the same class at Loyola four times. The professor was an excellent critic, and I wanted his criticism. Each time I took the class, I got special assignments, rather than the normal, as I had done those already. He would take extra time with me, as he could do the criticism for the rest of the class - on the same lesson. He never complained, and helped me develop a lot of new techniques. This was a still photo class.
My wife, in a totally unrelated field, feels the same for the conventional, structured educational system. She would never work in such an environment again. When she must do collaborative work with universities, and institutions of higher learning, she rules the conference table with an iron fist. If any university is going to partner with her, they MUST leave the political "stuff" at the door, as she will not abide with it.
This seems to have worked well. A couple of years ago, her hospital was given the Gold Award for medical education. It was the first time that a non-university hospital had ever won the award, and it was also the first time that any hospital had won it the first year that they had been nominated. After that win, she was appointed to the board that issues the award. She too feels that far too much effort and too much money are expended on aspects that do not benefit the students. Wasted time - wasted money - students, who never got the education, that they had been promised.
She is the chairman for a UK medical foundation, that concentrates on specialized medical education worldwide. When any university wants to partake, she is happy to have them, but explains "where" they will sit at the table. If they can deal with that, they are welcomed. If they cannot, then their "offer" is quickly declined. One must play by her rules, or they do not get to play. No politics allowed.
I would have that same problem, with your proposal. It is not that it could not work, but I would question whether it would work.
I have just seen politics (at several different levels - not just the national educational aspect) ruin things. I'd like to see such technical schools created in a more free-standing atmosphere. I could envision monetary and logistical support coming from other institutions and foundations, but would love to see them out from under the umbrella of any "educational system."
Just my personal and skewed view of education,
    Hunt

    Hi @MM_Vienna ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

  • App  development for School District

I am looking to create a app that has our events, twitter feed, school calendar, facebook page etc on it. I have never develpoed before and would like anyone who can give me some guidance or sample code. This would be baisically pulling data from our website but with a pretty GUI.

For someone coming here looking for help you have a funny way of doing it.
You were given sound advice by a knowledgeable poster who is volunteering his time to help. Considering  the information you supplied his advice is correct.
First if you have no prior programming experience the chances of you coming up with a useable app in the next few years is slim. Second how can you limit the app to IOS, what about all the parents using Android phones? What happens to them?
Why not start with the other districts you say that are near you and have implemented this? Given that they have already done this their advice will be much more relevant then anything you will get here.
The article you linked to was interesting. While I am a firm believer in a strong public school system the waste in duplication of effort for all these districts to be developing their own, essentially identical apps, does give one pause.
As the district isn't making any money off the app, why not see if one of them won't share what they have done so far.
Finally you'd be better off approaching this from the design of the web site. As was noted in the article some districts have redesigned their site to be accessible from all devices.
And if all of these doesn't change your mind try Start Developing iOS Apps Today
    good luck

    The Glu Customer Care answer my question;
Hello, and thank you for contacting Glu Mobile Customer Care
The game you mentioned does not save online. If you have made a backup using "iCloud" or "iTunes backup" then you may be able to restore to that last save point on your device which will include whatever you had for currency at the time when the save was created.
Unfortunately, we do not have a way to restore game progress, this is done by the user on the device itself using the backup and restore method for the entire device.
If you have not performed a backup save for your device before this problem happened and you have lost currency from purchases, please contact the iTunes store customer service to inquire about your purchase and request help regarding this loss of currency issue.. Apple does not allow developers to handle billing issues.
If you get an answer saying that In-App purchases are the responsibility of the developer, please insist that they assist you as we have no way of accessing their purchase records. We are the developer and do not have access to any account or billing information on the iTunes App Store.
We hope this information assists you and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
    Regards,
    Glu Mobile Customer Care

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support. You say that you used the pack that you bought and that it then ran out - does that mean that you used it all up ? If you didn't use it all up but your game lost the purchase then you can try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • I support a very large school district currently running Firefox 3.6. What will happen at end of life date? We're in the middle of online testing this week.

I run the test center for a very large school district with over 120k students. We've got a current deployed base of 54k client machines using Firefox 3.6. We haven't upgraded due to multiple reasons, the most important of which is removing the possibility of using In Private Browsing from the students, and dealing with plugin-updates for the non digital natives (read dumber than a bag of hammers users) that make up the majority of the client base.
We're testing ESR now, but just found out that end of life for 3.6 is tomorrow, 4/24. We are currently in the middle of statewide online testing. The question is, what will happen tomorrow when the browser goes end of life. The ESR wiki mentions that "an update to the current version of Desktop Firefox will be offered through the Application Update Service"
So the main question is, are my students/teachers going to get a popup telling them they have to update the browser if we have the updates already turned off? If so, can I turn it off remotely using SCCM, because it will cause all kinds of havoc.
Please advise asap, and thanks in advance.

We had to do some serious gymnastics to remove at least most of the ability to use IPB. We removed it from the gui, but unfortunately, if they know the hotkey, they can still bring it up. Security has some serious headaches with this, as by law they have to be able to track where students go, and going with private browsing removes their ability to do forensic work they're required to be able to do. Not a very well thought out feature from Mozilla in my opinion, but it is what it is. Successive versions have made it even more difficult to remove even the gui portion.
We do plan to release ESR due to the aforementioned security issues, but testing has been slow.
But thanks for the reply. I think we can turn off the updates if it isn't already done.

  • Local Public School Wifi restriction on iOS devices

Hello, I'm inquiring about the specific mechanisms that contribute to  why some non-restricted websites have been blocked from being accessed in practically every device at a local public school. I and my other peers currently have access to the internet, passing its authentication and login requirements. However, some sites that are not even blocked ( which can be accessed on a laptop ) are not allowed on mobile device, why is that so? Is there any solution to this issue? Websites that contain important information based on different subjects are essential in letting students learn on the go and in the library partly because the library is always booked full with students and computers are always occupied leaving numerous students without access to proper internet connection. I appreciate any feedback and thank you for looking into this inquiry.

And if the site in question doesn't work even when not connected to the school's network, then it's a fault in the design of the web site, perhaps using Flash content or otherwise not being designed for mobile devices, and that would be something you would need to address with the company running the web site.
In either case, this does not appear to be an issue with the iPod touch, per se, and so is not something anyone here can offer much help with.
    Regards.

  • 1) "Care Pack" product registration page error 2) Driver download page error - links don't work

I cannot register my printer because the page has "Care Pack" product registration page has errors:
    https://register.hp.com/americas/flowPage/registration/index.do?execution=e1s1
I fill in all the information and click the blue "Submit Query" button, and nothing happens except 3 silver "Submit Query" buttons appear below where it says, "Search results" "Select the product that you want to register." But there are no results! And why 3 buttons if no results?
Cookies and scripts are enabled. I did that and refreshed the page before I entered anything, so nothing is getting rejected.
It seems the website has a lot of problems...the download links on the driver page wouldn't work either, so I had to get them from a 3rd party. I am lucky to find a reliable site! (The driver was official and the printer finally installed correctly, which it couldn't even find if I let Windows search online!)
