I am trying to restore iphone 4 and trying to connect to itunes to do it it isn't working what do I do
my grandson forgot passcode and iphone has been disabled and says connect to itunes how do i do this to restore the use of this phone??
Put the phone in rescue mode and have itunes restore it. This is how. Turn the device off holding down the sleep/wake button until you get slide to turn off. Turn off device. With the device off. Hold down the home button and keep holding down the home button while plugging in the iphone to your computer. Iphone will get an itunes logo and cable image on the screen release the home button. Itunes will see a device in recovery mode press ok in the message and hit restore.

I had a similar issue and I was told that my iTunes match was on.
I had to disable iTunes match on my iPhone.
Following which - after you plugged in your iPhone to iTunes, select your iPhone on iTunes menu. You should see a summary page of your iPhone where it provides options to update or restore. On the bottom there should be an option to select "sync only selected music/playlists". I can't remember the exact wording. Once that's been checked, select your iPhone's music tab and it should allow you to select the music playlists you want to sync. -

Well anyways, sounds like it's in recovery mode. You'll need to perform a restore through iTunes on the computer. -
Trying to update iphone 4s to ios 8. Install failed for "unknown reasons". Trying to restore I phone from I tunes, asked for password to complete restore. I enter ITunes password and then iphone lock password and neither is accepted. What password is required?
I think the password it asked is the one that you used to encrypt iPhone backup.

Put your phone in DFU mode (search Google for instructions) and restore as NEW device. If that doesn't work, you've no choice but to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.
If your phone has been jailbroken, this problem can occur. In this case, Apple won't even touch the phone and you'll have to buy a new one. -
Cannot restore iphone and can't re-load itunes
I have a 3g iphone and as I haven't updated it for a while, connected to itunes and accepted the software update 3.1.3. It froze during the update (on the apple logo screen) which forced me to reset the phone (holding down the home and on/off button as advised on here).
I then tried to restore the phone but was getting error 14 (could not restore). Again I looked on here for the solution - turned off my security settings, tried a different USB etc. I then read a further solution to uninstall itunes and all it's components, which I did. Now I can't reinstall itunes on my main laptop (Windows 7) as it's saying digital signature is not verified - although it was fine when I first bought the laptop a month ago. Again I read that the solution was to install via firefox. I downloaded firefox and then tried itunes again. 1st was told that I needed the 64 bit installer. Then tried this but nothing happens when I click on run.
I have also tried on my sons netbook and again am getting erroer 14 when trying to restore. I am now left with a phone that shows the itunes logo and USB on the display screen and can't do anything.
Can anyone help?????go through this article for error when restoring and/or updating.

lizzie xWhat version of iTunes do you have installed? If you are trying to update to iOS 6 you need iTunes 10.7 or later.

I recently updated iTunes and when I went to put music on my iPod, however, iTunes could not pick anything up even though windows was. I then tried my iPhone and I had the same issue. Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

Iphone and ipod crashing "connect to itunes"
My kids are having serious issues with their iPhone 3 and iPod Touch 4 -- they restore and sync, then after a few hours the iphone gets the error "activation required" then eventually results in the "connect to iTunes" screen. The iPod Touch just freezes and goes to the "connect to iTunes" screen.
Could they both be running an app that's suddenly cuasing them to crash -- or a notification or locations services error?
Just seems odd that the both started acting up at the same time. I removed the last two apps they had downlaoded but maybe it's an update to an old app.

The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone.Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.It sounds as if your iphone has been hacked/unofficially unlocked and has now been locked back to the rightful carrier.
You would have to contact the carrier to whom the iphone is locked to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify. -

You could always restore your iPod and redownload all your itunes items to your ipod. No biggie.

it wont turn on after reset to factory settings
there is a program called recboot. you can download it for free in two parts. one part takes your device out of recovery mode and the other puts it into recovery mode. ive used it before but it doesnt always work and you have to be patient. try it and tell me what happens
