I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

You have to contact iTunes store support. There is a probability that this issue is caused by a previous payment issue. They will let you know what you need to do.

Where are you trying to get Flash Player from? Downloading is different from installing but many malicious websites offer to supply Flash Player as a means of installing malicious software and gathering personal information (e.g., passwords). You should get Adobe Flash only from Adobe and this link lets you download the full installer (Mac OS X (Intel) DMG) and run it locally. At that point OS X will ask for your password and if you've been using it successfully for other purposes (e.g., changing some items in System Preferences), it should work there too. I want to download the new updates I think to the 10.9 but our mac was given to us and when it comes to the last page it asks for the user name and password but this mac was wiped clean. How do I find out this info so I can get iPhoto? To be honest I'm not even sure what type of Mac I have and don't know how to find out what kind it is

If you don't have the user name and password used to set up the machine then you need to purchase the apps for yourself. -
I recently changed my e-mail account. I had to reset my apple I.D. and password. All was fine, now when I attempt to login to install updates it shows my old I.D. I don't understand this because when I go into settings it shows my apple I.D. as my new one
I think what is happening is that you changed the email address for password recovery to the new one - the Appleid (and software "attached" to it) remain irrevokably linked to the id you purchased it with.

I have a new iPhone 6 plus and all is OK. But the mail shows more than 400 'unread' messages whereas there are none in the mailbox or trash or anywhere else I have looked. I can send and receive with no problem. I'm sure I have no unread messages.

All media and apps should be in iTunes on the computer. Simply select the content desired to sync to the device and sync it.
FYI, backups have never included media or apps.
