Ink, Toner, Cartridge & Printhead issues

I have a HP psc 1210 all in one printer.  The other day the error light came up to say that my ink cartridge needed changing.  I changed my black ink cartridge but still the light came up, so I then changed the coloured ink cartridge but still the light came up.  I know I have put in the right ink cartridges and they have both  been correctly inserted.. they also  move smoothly across when I open the door so nothing is jamed.  Also I cannot turn off the printer and have to remove the power lead to do this.  I have tried all HPs solutions.  I have removed power cable in the back and reinserted, I have cleaned the printheads as described etc etc. So, currently the lights on my computer printer are as follows: Yellow (on/resume) button lit, but not flashing Red  (check print cartridge) button flashing Large E (error) button lit up Size button lit up Paper type button lit up Black button lit up Colour button lit up      -    Please can someone assist me with this.

Hi @MxPhlipper,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 6510, you are unable to print in black ink, I understand your frustration and appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have completed already.
I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in?
I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,

  • HP Laserjet 4050 toner cartridge issue

I look after a laserjet 4050 printer for a company. They recently started using a new toner cartridge (higher quality) but they have started to have issues with black ink lines down one side of the paper. They have sent back toner cartridges (thinking them to be faulty) but cartridges are fine.
Is this a printer issue or is there an issue with the toner cartridge and the 4050 printer (not compatable)

I think I may have the solution to your problem. I do not think the toner is your problem here. From my experience i would suggest that your printer may need to be cleaned. I had a client who had a similar problem with his printer, what you should try doing is the following:
If toner specks appear on the front or back side of your print jobs, follow the procedure below to clean the paper path.
    Using the printer cleaning page
From the printer’s control panel, do the following:
Press MENU until "Print Quality Menu" appears.
Press ITEM until "Create Cleaning Page" appears.
Press SELECT to create the cleaning page.
Follow the instructions on the cleaning page to complete the cleaning process.
NOTE: In order for the cleaning page to work properly, print the page on copier grade paper (not bond or rough paper).
You might need to create a cleaning page more than once. When toner has been cleaned from inside the printer, shiny black spots will appear on the page’s black strip.
To ensure good print quality with certain types of paper, use the cleaning page every time that the print cartridge is replaced.
I am confident that your toner should print clear pages after this.

  • Toner leak and printer damage, toner cartridge 124A

My yellow toner cartridge leaked all over my printer. I got it cleaned up and replaced the toner cartridge, but now the inks are very washed out. The black is faded and the color is really faded. The white paper, where there should be no printing is now a light gray as if the black toner is printing very lightly.  Does anyone know how I can fix it? I have run the demo sheet and recalibrated but nothing has changed.  The printer works very well otherwise.
Alternatively, if this is something that cannot be fixed, are there other printers that use the 124A toner cartridges? I have two more sets of black and color toner cartridges and would like to be able to use them if the printing problem cannot be repaired.

  • My printer is showing there is an ink problem or printhead is missing

My printer is showing there is an ink problem or printhead is missing or not detected. I've replaced the ink cartridges.

Hello @Mdguz and welcome to the HP Forums!
I can see you're experiencing ink system issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges from the printer, and performing a power reset.   Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
Another suggestion would be to plug the printer power into a different wall outlet.
I would recommend updating your firmware as well:
HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Firmware
I would then suggest utilizing this document on A 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error Message Displays on the Printer or on the Computer.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Do I have a bad toner cartridge?

The old cartridge in my HP 1018 ran out - shaking would get a few more good pages. I put in a new, HP manufactured 12A cartridge and immediately had a blank strip 2" wide on the side. Rotating and shaking the new cartridge gained a little more print on the right margin. No smearing or streaking. Unfortunately, I had already recycled the old cartridge, so I had nothing to swap back to see if it was the new cartridge or something else. At $70 a pop, I don't want to open yet another cartridge to see if I just got a bad one, if there is something else I should check first. (Staples won't take current one back because I bought it a few months ago.) Couldn't find any info in HP support pages about other maintenance or  troubleshooting.

I purchased black ink toner for my Deskjet 3915 through the HP online store, as they were having a sale BIG MISTAKE!!!
I purchased it mid  March, but b/c of delivery issues (no fault of HPs) I received it and started using it end of March/begining of April.  I would print about 4-6 pages a week and by end of May the ink was completly dried up.  My colour toner, which I purchased in Sept 09 was still printing clearly.   I called HP techsupport in March to explain the problem.  The person asked for my order number and email address and advised that it would be difficult to blame the problem on the toner when my printer is old.  He advised me to go out and buy another black in toner to see if it works, if it still doesn't then to call back.
I bought a new toner full price and it worked.  I wasn't surprised, but followed the techies advice.   I called tech support again to let them know that the new toner worked.  He knew that I purchased the original toner through the HP Store.  The support person offered to send me a replacement toner (had I know how this day was going to end, I would have grabbed it and ran).  I asked that I be credited instead of getting the replacement, as I already had a new one and didn't know when I would need the next one...I didn't want it to be sitting around.  The techie puts me on hold and asked his manager.  He came back with information for me to to call the HP Store.  He assured me that they will be able to give me the refund.  I asked him more than once, "will I have to explain the situation again?" and "will they know that they are to arrange a refund?"  He said that all I had to do was give the person my order number (the number from the online purchase.  He even gave me the 877# .
When I spoke the lady at HP store , she flat out told me that it had been more than 30 days, so no refund.  Even after explaining the whole situation, she said that the tech support people were wrong .  I asked her to look at the notes ( I had assumed the tech person wrote notes about our conversation), she said she didn't have access????  When I asked her to speak to a manager, she refused.  When I asked her whether I should go back to Tech Support,  before I could even ask her name she already transfered me back to the que line. She was definately happy to release my call.  I talk to "J" who asks me the same information as the first techie and HR Store person.  I summarized what happened quickly and insist on speaking  to a manager, he puts me on hold and transfers me to "M".  "M", I discover midway into my explaination is not a manager.  He is patient and tries to help.  I forwarned him that I need to talk to someone who can help me and I don't want to tell this story anther time.  I gave him my order number and he keeps putting me on hold a number of times (but doesn't tell me...so I ended up talking to dead air, made me even more frustrated).  Without confirming the information, he tells me no refund or replacement.  No reason.  Then I find he is confused about the order number, he didn't realize that there is no new order number.  All my conversations with HP people today have not been tracked.  I insist again on speaking to a manager.  Still questioning why my call was sent to Manoj in the first place.  "M" tries to prevent me a number of time from speaking to a manager...it looks like there is no real excalation process here.  Finally "M" tell me his supervisor  Brad is in a meeting.  I ask that I be called back today for resolution, that was 5 hour ago.
I'm sure my file has interesting stuff written it now, as I called an hour ago and the tech person I spoke to wanted to hurry me off the call quickly.  I know that this is only toner we are talking about, but I have been a HP customer for some time now and really thought highly of the company.  This $16.99 plus tax experience has really changed my perspective.  I don't think HP cares, as it's evident from their front line people.  I'm still waiting Brad for your call!

  • LaserJet Pro 400 MFP M475dw doesn't print in color after replacing toner cartridges

Replaced all color toner cartridged when printer indicated they were empty.  Printer is no longer printing in color.  It's as though it doesn't recognize that new cartridges were installed.  Is there something I need to reset on the printer?

Run a supplies status page from the report menu to see if any color appears.  If it does you either have a driver issue or one or more of the colors cartridges is still reading as empty as there is a setting to print using black and white when one or more color cartridges are empty.  I believe it is under the print quality menu.

  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw Does not recognise new toner cartridge

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw - error message to install new cartridge
After printing a ream of paper, we got an error message to install a new toner cartridge.  We couldn't overwrite it and continue to print.  Installed a new HP toner cartridge and still get the same error message to install a new cartridge.  I've done a hard reset already with no change.  Will take any help I can get.  This is the first toner cartridge change for this printer.

    Hi @kdaniels79 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the toner not being recognised. I will certainly do my best to help you.
I have provided a document with steps for replacing the toner. Make sure all the orange packing material is removed and the sealing tape. Make sure a piece of paper didn't slide in part way from the paper tray, blocking any sensors.
    Replace the Toner Cartridge.
Are you using Genuine HP Toner?

  • Brand new hp laserjet p1102 and new toner cartridge out of toner after less than 100 prints ! ! ! !

    Hi ,
I have just bought a brand new HP laserjet p1102 and a brand new toner cartridge, and within litterally 50 sheets being printed it says I am out of toner.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Community.  I'd like to help you with the installation and printing issues you are having with your HP Laserjet Pro M201dw, on your Windows 8.1 operating system. I can certainly understand your frustration, it seems like you have attempted the install multiple times. First, I'd recommend running the Print and Scan Doctor, to see if it can resolve any errors in the software without having to re-install. If it does prompt you to re-install your software, I would suggest uninstalling all M201dw software from the Programs section of your control panel. Once that's done, do a cleanboot of your computer. You can find instructions to complete the cleanboot here: How to perform a clean boot in Windows Note: This will turn off all non-essential startup items, so if it's another program on your computer that is causing the installation to lag, it should resolve the install issue. Rather than installing from the download or the CD that came with the printer, I'd suggest downloading and running the HP Printer Install Wizard. Please respond and let me know if this helped to resolve the issue!Good luck

  • MF4890dw lost wireless after changing toner cartridge

Have MF4890dw, had set up and using for over a year, no issues. Had been getting "low toner" message for a while.  Had recently moved wireless router further away, but was printing with no issues.  When toner started printing lighter, changed the chartridge.  Now will not print wirelessly at all.  No error messages on printer.
I wouldn't think changing the toner would be connected to wireless connection in anyway, but it was printing litteraly earlier that day.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi lostboydp.
Normally, changing the toner cartridge will not affect the connection of the printer.  It appears that the machine may be set for an automatic IP address via DCHP.  This just means that the IP address of the machine will change periodically.  Sometimes, this can cause the printer to stop working, since the drivers work directly with the IP address that was set during the time of installation.
I recommend setting a manual IP address by following the instructions below:
    1.  Open the [Devices and Printers] window.
    2.  Right-click on the MF4800 Series icon and select [Printer Properties].
    3.  Click on the [Ports] tab, and then write down the IP address of the selected port (You may need to click on "Configure port".)
    4.  Open the Windows search and type 'cmd', then hit 'Enter'.
    5.  In the Command Prompt screen type "ipconfig".
    6.  Write down the Subnet Mask and Gateway for your network.
Next, go to the printer and follow the instructions below:
    1.  Scroll to [Network Settings], and then press [OK].
    2.  Scroll to [TCP/IP Settings], and then press [OK].
    3.  Scroll to [IPv4 Settings], and then press OK.
    4.  Scroll to [IP Address Settings], and then press [OK].
    5.  Scroll to [Auto Obtain], and then press [OK].
    6.  Scroll to [Auto IP: Off], and then press [OK].
    7.  Highlight [Apply], and then press [OK].
    8.  Scroll to [Manually Acquire], and then press [OK].
    9.  Select [IP Address] and enter the IP address you wrote down in the earlier steps.
    10.  Press [OK].  Do the same for the Subnet Mask and Gateway Address, and then press [OK].
    11.  Press the [Copy] button to exit the menu.
    12.  Now turn off the machine and wait for at least 10 seconds and then turn the power back on.
It is necessary to restart the machine to take effect the settings.
If you are still unable to print, please move the printer closer to your router and follow the instructions again.
I hope this information is helpful to you.  If the error persists, please contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).

  • Quality of Ink for Cartridge Refills

    Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could provide some info re: what micron ink level is the largest to use for refilling cartridges for OfficeJet 4315 without jamming the printer up?  Any feedback would be appreciated!!!

    Hi alodude,
I understand you have a Photosmart 5520 that is not allowing you to use refurbished cartridges from eBay. I will certainly do my best to explain what is happening with your printer.
I would recommend that you have a look through this 'Cartridge Problem,' 'Cartridge Missing or Damaged,' or 'Incompatible Ink Cartridge(s),' Message Dis... document and hopefully these steps will help. It's also a good idea to plug the printer directly to a wall outlet to ensure the printer has all the power it needs to function properly.
If the printer still insists the cartridges are empty, it's because the chip on the cartridge knows it has run out of HP ink and they aren't designed to recognize refilled ink. If the issue won't clear after the above steps, you may have to buy genuine HP cartridges.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • How can I use the Warranty on my LaserJet Toner Cartridges ?

I have accumulated a total of 4 malfunctioning LaserJet toner cartridges in the last 6 months and I seem to be stymied trying to do anything. They are for LaserJet models 5, 6p, and 2100, and the failures are each unique print quality problems, move from printer to printer with the toner cartridge and  are all completely resolved by using another toner cartridge. Each of the cartridges yielded between 100 and 800 pages before failing, outlasting the 14 day return policy at local Staples where they were purchased. None of the cartridges depleted its toner supply.
The Warranty Return Card in the package is very simple. It says "this toner cartridge is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship during its useful lifetime", and "does not apply to cartridges that have been refilled or to those which are simply empty as a result of normal use."
HP's Limited Warranty Statement at http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/privacy/limite d_warranty.html under the heading "HP Limited Warranty Statement - LaserJet Print Cartridges and Imaging Drums" seems simple and  straightforward,  "HP LaserJet Print Cartridges and Imaging Drums are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship" then a clause excluding cartridges refilled, tampered abused, or simply worn out from use, "To obtain warranty service, please return the product to place of purchase (with a written description of the problem and print samples) or contact HP customer support. At HP’s option, HP will either replace products that prove to be defective or refund your purchase price."
N.B.: There is no period stated for the Warranty, nor is there any on the Warranty Return Card in the product package. Also, these toner cartridges do not contain any smart chips, toner depletion sensors, etc.
When I tried to return the cartridges to Staples, they called HP and were told by HP I had to have my receipt to prove the cartridges were less than 1 year old, and then that they wouldn't take them back at Staples anyway but that if I called HP would "mail me one". Since I buy a spare to sit next to a printer for when it runs out of toner, I'm not sure they were all purchased within the last 12 months, only that they were put into service within the last 12 months.
When I called HP support they opened up a trouble ticket for my printer and said someone would get back to me within 10 days. I'm half expecting to get an email in 10 days apologetically noticing that HP no longer supports any of these printers. An email to ship them somewhere far away and expect a reply in 90 days is a definite possibility. I definitely don't expect an HP field service technician to arrive at my door to service the toner cartridges in person.
I don't understand how to use the Warranty. I've (over) paid for piles of genuine HP LaserJet Toner cartridges and having 4 fail for quality problems in the last few months got my attention and its enough money to chase it rather than tossing them like the other 6 or 7 defective ones over the last 10 years.
Does anyone know how to actually get a replacement toner cartridge for a defective one? Please tell me the Warranty isn't just smoke and mirrors...

Sorry to say.  TheHP Warranty is worthless.  I have a friend witht eh EXACT same problem.  DOA cartridges (2 BRAND SPANKING NEW ONES).  One fail about half wai the other did not even over 600 pages.  At $140 per cartridge (plus tax) that is about 21 cents per page plus the cost of paper.  That is color inkjet prices.  And that does not take into account cost of electricity, printer, and time wasted to buy the worthless cartridges.
I listen in his last tech call and I had to go out because it was enfurating.  The technician even email him prve that the toner had NP time based warranty and still in the same breath said our policy is that the warranty is 1 year.  Huh?  What the #%^&* !  Really?  I mean REALLY?  Is like sending you a picture of a perfectly blue sky as proof and telling you that the sky is red with yellow dots.  I hope there is  class action lawsuit agains HP since they are clearly ripping people off.  And the sad part is that some small businesses will also get screw since they sell HP cartridges and some actually say in their web site that the cartridges aare warranted for life.
    I would say either:
    - Do NOT buy HP cartridges
    - Never stock spare cartridges
    - or btter yet, buy another brand of printer.
I actually have the same printer simlilar to his and I used generic with no problems.  Plus I buy my cartridges for $35 if he had done the same he would had at least $400 towards another printer so even if the toner blows up and destroys his printer he would have enough money to buy a replacement.
    Check out this link
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01848047&jumpi...
    it actually says:
"There is no expiration date for the use of HP toner cartridges."
This came from the tech guy at HP!
And then he had the guts to say it is a 1 year warranty?  This only can happen when you have tech support in India.  I guess in India's English no expiration means 1 year.  I have not found an Indian English to American English dictionary but I am sure that is what it should be because they guy did not even hesitated for 1 second when he send that and said it.
    Welcome to HP!
