Installer launch

I have created an installer that installs the projector and
all project files onto the users harddrive but leaves the large QT
files on the CD. The user therefore has to have the CD in the
CD-ROM drive of their computer to be able to run the application.
The problem I have is that I don't want the installer
autorunning everytime the CD is put into the users CD-ROM drive. I
only want this to happen if the user hasn't yet installed the
files.
I'm thinking that I could create a stub projector that
searches the users harddrive for a file that I have included in the
installation and if it finds it, then it doesn't launch the
installer, but if it doesn't then it does launch the installer.
Can anyone tell me how I search for a file on the users
harddrive as I don't know where the user will have installed the
files? And whether you think this is the best way of achieving
this?
Thanks for any help!

I would use the setpref function to store a note as te
installation is
completed, for best accuracy one could store the install
location in the
pref file, and use fileXtra4 to confirm the installed file(s)
still
exist.
Having a projector even briefly run will still be a pain,
consider not
doing autorun.

  • (Adobe Installer) Launching Creative Cloud Desktop taking too long

This is my first post so I do not know if this is the right section to post this or not.
I am installing Creative Cloud Student edition and the adobe installer has been stuck on "launching creative cloud desktop" for about 3-4 hours now, and I don't think it should take this long. I'm afraid if I restart the download, it will have to download again and take another 3-4 hours I just waited.
Is it supposed to take this long, or is there something wrong and I should restart?

  • Adobe Flash installation launcher never pops up

i somehow uninstalled the Adobe Flash. After downloading the adobe flash player launcher from the official website and opening it no installation guide pops up, but Task Manager shows its running, I am using Win 8.1 64-bit & Firefox as my default browser... No plugin also displays in the plugin finder of the browser..... I have tried a lot and read solutions but nothing was fruitful... So please help

    Hello,
If flash is not working and you are not sure what happened to it, try using the uninstaller from here to remove the files if you can before reinstalling:
    * Windows: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
You can double check to see if it is still installed on your computer by looking at your list of installed programs (Control Panel > Programs and Features).
Install the latest version here: https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Note that the link usually has an "Optional offer" for the McAfee toolbar in the middle pane - you can uncheck that box as it is not needed to use Flash.

  • Installer launching command prompt that should run a powershell script and remain open

I am using the Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Projects extension for VS 2013. This installer is designed to place a windows app in a directory and then launch a powershell script to prompt the user to sideload the application. From what I read online,
you can make a windows console application and then add that .exe under the install custom actions to have the exe run after the installation is done. My installer is running the executable, but not in the way I want it to. This is the code that the console
    application has:
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Process.Start(@"C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe", @"-ExecutionPolicy bypass -NoExit -File Application\Add-AppDevPackage.ps1");
One key thing to note here is the -NoExit. I want the prompt to remain open. If I run this console application directly, the powershell console does indeed stay open. You can see here where I have added the .exe as part of the install custom action.
One additional thing to note is when I looked at the exe in the directory after the install, it is different than the one generated when I compile the console application project. I wouldn't know why the installer is physically changing the binary when I
expect it to just copy the output from that compiled project/copy that file.
If anyone has any additional input on how to make this process easier to have an installer (.msi) to place my windows app in a directory and run a powershell script to prompt the user to sideload it, then I welcome that too.

  • Installer launches Script Editor

I am trying to reinstall After Effects and the installer only launches Script Editor. same thing happened when I tried to install a printer package.
This is really frustrating, any help would be gladly received.

I am not familiar with this software. Is the installer an installer package (ie. does it have an icon that looks like an open cardboard box)?
If not, the installer for this software may be a self contained application which may have incorrectly become associated with "Script Editor.app". Unsetting this association can be accomplished by resetting the "Launch Services" database one way or another, but as a short term workaround, try adding the extension ".app" to the installer to see if it will run.
If the installer has the icon as described above, ignore the previous paragraph.

  • Quicktime installs/launches OK, but unresponsive at opening screen

Recently upgraded to most recent versions of iTunes and Quicktime. iTunes works OK, but Quicktime does not work. Can launch the program, it opens the Applestore splash screen but none of the links work. Even some of the menu items (e.g. Help/QuikTime Player Help) do not work. If I open a video, it presents a very pixalated view although audio is OK. I removed it via add/remove programs, reinstalled from Apple web site, still have same symptoms?
    Appreciate any help.

Can launch the program, it opens the Applestore splash screen but none of the links work. Even some of the menu items (e.g. Help/QuikTime Player Help) do not work.
    Let's work on those first.
We'd better check to see if your firewall might be blocking QuickTime from accessing the internet.
Have a look through your firewall rules. Is there one there for QuickTime? If so, is QuickTime being allowed full access to the internet?
If there's a full access rule there, it might still be worth deleting the rule and adding a fresh one for QuickTime. (I've had some experience of NIS 2007 automatically-generated rules for QuickTime being a bit skunky for some earlier versions of QuickTime. Deleting the existing rule and creating a new rule got me past that batch of issues.)
EDIT: sorry Jacumba, didn't see your post. didn't mean to barge in.

  • Adobe Bridge CC will not launch

Hi - I was doing a little cleanup on my Windows 7 machine and noticed that I still had Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC(2014). I uninstalled Photoshop CC. (Note that I also have Photoshop and Bridge CS6 installed.)
When I then went in to Photoshop CC(2014) and tried to use the Browse in Bridge option, the CC installer launched and installed Bridge CC. Good I thought.
When I restarted Photoshop CC(2014) and tried the Browse in Bridge nothing happened. Starting Bridge directly from the shortcut on the start menu gets the same result. Nada.
A search of the forums finds that this is not an uncommon occurrence (for example, https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1502288?q=bridge%20not%20working) with some people finding various combinations of uninstalling, using cleaner tools and re-installing working in some instances.
I was hoping that since this is a long-standing issue, that someone could direct me to a definitive solution.
    Many thanks
    Dave

I am not sure what I did to fix this (I did install Lightroom CC), but everything seems to be working. The Adobe gods seem to be smiling on me today..

  • How can I resolve installation errors DF024 & DF037 for CS5.5 on Mac?

Please help. I've gone through the forum posts, as well as searched the Internet, and find the matter daunting. Have tried to implement a solution and may have caused more problems. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    PROBLEM:
I am unable to uninstall or reinstall both Dreamweaver 5.5 and CS 5.5.
Continually get extensive number of the following errors:

ERROR DF037 Unable to delete directory…

BACKGROUND (History appears chronologically in 4 parts.):
CS 5.5 was already installed and functioning fine, then upgraded from OS 10.6 to 10.7. Noticed issues with elements not appearing in DISPLAY VIEW of Dreamweaver, but was correct in CODE VIEW and BROWSER PREVIEW.
Tried to reinstall and uninstall Dreamweaver 5.5 several times using the CS 5.5 installation disk. Consistently got DF024 errors. NOTE: After first attempt. installer marked Dreamweaver as already installed, but not the others. Using the Finder, the Dreamweaver directory appears to be empty unless the files are now hidden. Nothing regarding the application can be seen in the Trash. Also unable to launch any other Adobe CS apps.

    Hi Sharad,
    Thank you for your reply.
Since my initial posting here, I've attempted a few more installations. Each time a file from /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ssc/ would appear with the same error DF024, and it was always an alias. So each time I would replace the old alias with a new manually created alias pointing to the same original as the old alias. Sure enough, when I relaunched the installer,  error DF024 with the old alias no longer appeared, but a new error DF042 with another alias from the same directory did appear. Then I manually replaced  all aliases found in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ssc/ directory with new ones I created.
Upon rebooting and relaunching the installer program, the program did not stop at around 12% as consistently it did up until now. Instead, it progressed to 80% before it stopped and reported a huge number of new errors. Most of them pertain to the inability to roll back the installation it had attempted. No files from /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ssc/ appeared in the new log report.
To gain a better understanding of the logs, I downloaded AdobeSupportAdvisor and tried using it, but it referred me to online solutions that weren't relevant to my situation (i.e., one mentions Photoshop CS4 and I've never installed CS4).
I also tried following the articles from the Adobe knowledgebase:
    cspid_84451: Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6
which is fine if you only have a few errors, and
    cspid_83481: Installation, launch log errors | CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CCM
    which doesn't list error DF024.
At this point I've decided to not not make anymore attempts without some expert guidance.
The log file seem too large to post here. If you would like review the log, I can perhaps post it on www.pastebin.com unless you can suggest a better way. Please let me know.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro ran an installer when I opened it today

I've previously installed and used Acrobat 9 Pro. Today I noticed I couldn't open pdf's in my browser, so I went to open Acrobat 9 Pro and open the file from there. When I tried to open the application, an installer launched for Acrobat 9.3.  Very odd. And I had to restart.  Is this how updates are made now?  Or is something fishy going on?

I faintly recall some folks mentioning registration causing some autoupdate issues. I may not be recalling correctly, but worth asking the question about your registration. I do not run auto updates, but always go to the Adobe web site to download the updates.

  • Why is the installer stuck on "Checking System Profile-"?

I'm trying to install Flash Catalyst Beta on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard).
The installer starts to work, but then it stops at the point where it checks the system profile (see attached screenshot). It doesn't seem to have crashed as the dock icon allows me to quit without force quitting the application.
I've tried it in my regular user account and the administrator account, but the behaviour is identical.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I appreciate all your efforts, but I¹ve just received my new copy of CS5, so
I¹ll be installing the final version.

Subject: Why is the installer stuck on "Checking System
    Profile…"?
    Thanks Gary.
I need to ask you a few questions and request you to perform some more steps
so that I can debug your problem.
    1. Have you modified any folder permissions, authorization setup using
Keychain Access utility (or any other tool)?
    2. Open a Terminal window, and run the command 'ls -l /tmp' and copy-paste
the output printed on your screen in your reply.
    3. Delete all files whose name start with 'asu' in your /tmp folder. Run the
command 'rm -rf /tmp/asu*'. Restart your machine.
    4. Launch the Flash Catalyst setup and check if installation proceeds
successfully. If it doesn't, proceed to the step below.
    5. Open the folder containing the Flash Catalyst setup. Browse to the
'packages' folder and rename the file 'install.sig' to 'update.sig'. Double
click and launch the Flash Catalyst setup. This will not install the
application but install the Adobe Application Manager. Let me know if you
see a small dialog with a progress bar. Rename back update.sig to
install.sig. Update us your observations. Continue to next step.
    6. Launch 'Disk Utility' app (from /Applications/Utilities). Select your OS
partition in the left panel and click on 'First Aid' tab on the top. Click
on the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button at the bottom.
    7. Again, launch the Flash Catalyst setup and check if installation proceeds
successfully. If it doesn't, proceed to the step below.
    8. Open a Terminal window and navigate to the directory containing the Flash
Catalyst setup. Run the command 'sudo Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install'
and enter the password. Let me know if the installer launches and on
following the screen instructions do you still see the error screen or does
    the installation proceed successfully.

  • Installer package not working

I've posted this on the iDVD forum but I've decided it is more likely a
general OS technical issue. Hopefully someone here can help me.
When I double click the iDVD '06 install package the installer launches with menus along the top and an icon in the dock but no prompt panels load onto the monitor screen.
Any ideas as to what is happening here?
I'm supposing some corruption or damage on the disk or whatever. I can probably get that replaced but it looms as a long process. I'd like to use this thing now.
Are there any fixable things that might be causing this or ways to install the package that bypass the installer interface?
    It's going onto a 800mhz QS/512 ram running on OSX 10.3.9
    Thanks
    Greg
    Pismo G3 500   Mac OS X (10.3)

Thanks for that advice. It helped me to confirm that the package files are broken beyond repair. I'll just have to wait for replacement.
Pacifist looks like a useful thing to have around though. Appreciate the help.
    Regards
    Greg
