Intel 5300 wireless issues

My fresh Arch 64 install doesn't appear to be recognizing the Intel 5300 interface at all.
I've reinstalled wireless_tools, iwlwifi-5000-ucode,
hwdetect --show-net results in:

ifconfig gives me:

  • Error code 10 for Intel 5300 Wireless Card

    Hi,
I tried to install a new Intel 5300 Wireless Card in my Thinkpad T400.
However, it is not very successful.
After I installed the driver, I find a yellow exclamation point on the 5300 Wireless Card on the device manager and an error code 10 (can't start device).
I have tried to re-install the driver but still no luck.
    Could anyone help for this?
    Thanks a lot
Here is some information might be useful:
    Operating System: Windows XP (SP3)
    Driver download from Lenovo:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70504
Wireless Card bought from ebay (The seller said this card can support IBM/LENOVO T400).

Unless the card is a Lenovo Branded card, it won't work.  But since you aren't complaining about an error in BIOS about an unauthorized card, then you also might have put it in the wrong slot.
Check the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular system and make sure you have it in the WLAN slot, not the WWAN slot.

My wireless card worked perfectly for quite a long time, but lately it's been a bit flakey. Coming out of standby often causes it to fail, and rebooting will sometimes, but not always, fix the problem.

Until you get it fixed, you can tell pm-suspend to unload the wireless driver before suspending, then loading it again after resuming?

  • Intel iMac wireless issues

I've had a 20" Intel iMac for over a year now and have never had very good success maintaining a connection to my network wirelessly. I have tried everything, but nothing fixes it permanently. It would just drop the network sporadically, especially if it hadn't been accessed in a day.
My DHCP is set up to lease IP's forever so that's not the problem.
I also have an Intel MacBook that I bought last summer. I've never had problems staying connected to the network with that (though it takes 30-40 seconds to reconnect from hibernation).
The odd thing is that even when the iMac was connected to the network the MacBook could never see it. Couldn't share itunes, couldn't connect to the shared drive, etc. It was almost as though the iMac was invisible to the network. Trust me, I've got no firewall, everything that can be shared is shared, it's as open as it can get (behind my secured router of course). Nothing.
Now, I've added an Apple TV to the mix. I had no problems getting it onto the network and the first time it found iTunes on the iMac and connected, synched, etc. I could stream video from it. All was good. For 1 day.
Then, day 2, nothing, can't find the iMac at all. Just says to make sure iTunes is open. It is, doesn't show the Apple TV in the devices either. I tried switching channels on the router, moving the apple tv around, stopping and restarting everything. Nothing. Wouldn't find it.
I finally got so frustrated (I had gotten the box out to send the apple tv back) that I grabbed a long network cable, plugged it into my router and ran it out the room, down the hall and plugged it into the iMac and disabled the airport card.
I brought up Safari, no problem. Tried iTunes and voila, there was the apple tv. Turned on the apple tv and bingo, there's my library.
I even went to my MacBook and there's the iMac on the network. Brought up iTunes and there's the shared library.
So, suffice it to say, there is a serious problem (and I've seen this posted over and over again) with the Airport cards in combination with the new Intel iMacs that does not seem to impact the Macbooks for some reason, at least not mine.
I guess I will leave it plugged into ethernet and try to hide the cable under the trim or something. I'm frustrated by this whole experience but I'm glad I found a way to get apple tv working.
Both my iMac and Macbook have all the latest software updates.

  • WRT320N & Intel 5300, unable to connect.

Im having problem connecting when using encryption.
There are no problems with the wireless when im using no encryption.
I've tried WEP WPA/WPA2... Mixed mode, only B/G/N modes. 2.4/5Ghz tried to update driver for my Intel 5300 wireless card, also tried to downgrade driver... tried the XP wireless client and Intels Proset software.
I still get the issue where it starts to connect, and it says that its connected for about 3-4 seconds and then it "disconnects" itself.
If i set a static IP on my computer it stays connected to network even with encryption but i am unable to communicate with router trough wlan.
Router has the latest 1.0.02 firmware.
Any tips or tweaks to test?

How many wireless computers do you have ?
Are you getting on all the computers ?
You can try upgrading / reflashing the router's firmware.
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • X301: Intel 5300 & WWAN Broadband Option Card

I just got my X301, which came with an Intel 5300 wireless card, and I went to install the AT&T 3G BroadBand Option currently being sold in the accessory store. So, turns out, the 5300 card is a full-size mini PCI-Express card... So is the 3G card. Yet, as far as I can tell, I can only hook up one full-size card, and I guess the other slot is for a half-size card. This is behind the memory door. What's the best course of action I can take?
    Solved!

    Glad you got that installed.

  • X200s w/ Intel 5300 - New driver leaves me wireless-less.

    Hi All,
I'm hoping this forum can be more helpful than the support line...
The pre-installed wifi driver on my x200s was giving me problems from the time it arrived.  After a day of wifi usage, Windows would slow to a crawl.  After some digging, I verified that the wifi driver was causing DPC latency issues.
I upgraded the wifi driver to the Lenovo v13 module and all ability to use the wifi card stopped.  I tried using the ThinkVantage tools to upgrade, I tried complete uninstall, re-installs using the downloaded driver from the Lenovo site.  Nothing worked.  I can see the device in device manager without error, however, fn+f5 doesn't show any wireless cards but the network center CAN see the wireless device and shows full green bars.
I could not downgrade my driver since I couldn't find it on the Lenovo site.
I did install the Intel generic driver for the 5300 and that was able to have me connected, but once again, I was left with one day of usage then a reboot.  Failing to reboot eventually leads to a BSOD.
I've called Lenovo support and the fellow there says, "The only reason their driver wouldn't work is if the hardware was broken."  Which I find a little hard to stomach since it does 'work' using a different driver.  He's asked me to reinstall my whole OS which seems unreasonable.  He then asked me to ship my laptop to them to replace the card... again, seems like a "last effort" scenario.  We compromised on having me bring it to a service center.
So, before I go to the hassle of replacing one wifi card with another; Has is anyone else having similar problems?  Does anyone else think it's a bit daft that a software driver issue must be fixed by installing new hardware?  It seems to me that the problem is in convincing Windows that the card is powered on...  I doubt a hardware swap will change anything.
    Your thoughts?  Suggestions?

  • [solved] Intel 5300 slow network transfer speed

    Heya,
I'm having trouble with my WiFi card Intel 5300 AGN and i hope you can help me.
It's the transfer speed in linux that bugs me. While I get 9 MB/s in Windows I can't for the life of me get more than 2.5 MB/s transfer rate in linux. And this is only if I use NFS4 and turn off the wifi power saving feature. Samba/CIFS gives me transfer speeds of no more than 0.4 MB/s.
The problem has to be somewhere in my linux software/configuration. But where?
I don't have much experience with WiFi configuration in Linux so mine should be pretty vanilla. No manual change of frequencies, channels and the likes. I simply use netcfg to connect and sometimes iwconfig to toggle the power saving feature.
Here's what iwconfig shows me right now while copying a big file:
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"bett"
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:14:D1:C7:43:C4
    Bit Rate=243 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm
    Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
    Encryption key:off
    Power Management:off
    Link Quality=61/70 Signal level=-49 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:11922 Invalid misc:2 Missed beacon:0
As you can see, power management is disabled. The link quality is very good and the bit rate is at 243 Mbps (which should give me about 15 MBps right?). Yet the transfer rate is only 2 MBps, sometimes dropping as low as 0.7 MBps, sometimes spiking to 4.5 MBps for a second or two.
What can I do to improve my network speed?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    demian

    Thanks for the reply zvxy.
I'm running the most current from [core], version 2.6.37.5-1.
Disabling the N mode improved transfer rates for CIFS/SMB shares. They are the same as with NFS now which is around 2.5 MB/s. Transfer speed for NFS stayed the same.
I'll try the kernel from [testing] and report back later.
// I've tested 2.6.38.2-1 a little bit now and as long as i don't disable wireless N i get transfer rates of up to 12 MB/s with NFS4. That's more than enough for me and i hope it stays that way. The downside is that transfer rate for CIFS is only 1 MB/s.
If i disable wireless n mode NFS transfer rates drop to ~2.8 MB/s while CIFS transfer rates go up to ~2.4 MB/s.
Guess I'll just have to stick with NFS (not that i don't mind but it's already thrown me some "stale" error messages with the new kernel ... i can't seem to catch a break ).
I'll consider this issue solved. Thanks!

  • Intel 5300/5350 Intermittent Wifi Solution - Don't use WEP security!

I recently purchased a Lenovo T400 with the Intel 5350 wireless card (same as the 5300 but with WiMax), and, like a lot of other people on this forum, I could not get the wifi to consistently work. I spent several frustrating days searching these forums and trying pretty much every solution offered (XP 32 bit, Vista 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, w/ & w/out Access Connections, w/ & w/out Intel software, Lenovo drivers vs. Intel drivers, etc.). However, in the end, the solution was totally unrelated.
What I found was that when I was using WEP security on my Linksys WRT54G router (v5 w/ the latest firmware) I could not get wifi to work consistently. In most cases it was hard to get it to work at all. In other cases it might work after a reboot for a few minutes, then stop working again. However, as soon as I either turned off security or changed it to WPA2-Personal, wifi worked like a charm.
I was originally thinking about returning the laptop, since no wifi makes it pretty much unusable. But, with this finding I think I will keep it. Since it is obviously a driver issue, I'm going to assume there will be a driver update in the near future to fix the problem.
Hope this helps some of you who are having the same problems!

That is a fascinating solution to the intermittent mess the Intel cards can go into. Never would have thought secrurity and encryption would affect the performance.
For what it's worth, go into the properties of the wireless card in Device Manager. Go to the Advanced Tab. Set "Roaming Aggressiveness" slider to the lowest, "Power Managment" to lowest, and "Transmit Power" to highest. These were solutiosn that I've run across and fixed the problem for me (I have the regular 5300, hope you will get to use and enjoy WiMax).

  • HO G62x Compatible Wifi Cards? Intel 5300?

    Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my wifi card since the one I got when I purchased my G62x doesn't give me the speed I need. I was looking and seems the Intel 5300 is a pretty good option and relativetly cheap on eBay, etc.
I noticed there's 3 connectors for antennas and the current one I have only has 2, it that a problem or incompatibility?
    Thanks,
PS: I'm looking at some card that fully supoprts Wireless N, both 2.4 and 5Ghz and the highest data transfer rate, minimum 150mb/s.

    Hi,
It's not as simple as it looks. Tell us what G62 model it is please and we can provide a list of compatible chips. One G62 (Intel Core i3/i5/i7) series has an Intel 5100agn listed as compatible. There also has to be the right form factor such as Half Mini PCIe, or Mini PCIe card.

I got the new MacBook Pro i5 2.3 the day it came out. So maybe a week and half ago.
I`m having intermittent wireless issues. I have done some testing and even replaced my older AirPort Base Station with the new Dual-Band one, but still seeing a drops from the network. I have a ping going to my router and to the ABSE. I tried changing the channel and using 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ. I also have a AirPort express and seen similar results. I tried reseting the PRAM, repairing permission, I did not reinstall the OS but I dont see how this would help. I think there is a hardware issue with the wireless card/antenna.
I did upgrade RAM and HDD was changed to SSD (intel G2 SSD). There are no other issues, machine is fast, no lock ups. Other devices on the network do not seem to drop any connections (ATV, ATV2, iPhone4, iPad etc..)

  • Intel 5300 and barebone 1646 gt640

Does anybody have any idea why this wireless card doesn't find internet more than 10 ft away from the router? Even when its plugged in, there is literally zero range. It even has the latest drivers installed. Any ideas on what the best wireless card would be for this laptop? This one, is obviously not it. My buddy made an identical build at the exact same time and his intel 5300 also struggles to pick up any wireless signal. Ideas/suggestions and advice are welcome. Thank you!

I don't know much about those things but my sisters laptop has an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN & Intel ProSet drivers in it and it works fine from over 15 (at least 45 ft) meters and several walls between it and my router.
Not sure if it would work in your laptop but it sure works great in hers (it's a Dell)

  • Intel ProSet Wireless Picks Up Noisy Broadcasts

I am running 4400 Cisco wireless lan contoller with roughly 60 lightweight Access Points. When using the Intel ProSet Wireless client utility for our Intel wireless adapters the utility is picking up all the individual lightweight access points and listing them as <SSID not broadcast> and as a valid access point. Other wireless clients don't pickup what the Intel does. Is this something I can control on the 4400? The end users is seeing 20 to 60 wireless connections which is not true.

First of all this is a user to user forum and the question like Why the drivers are update not faster makes no sense. What we can do is to provide some suggestions which could solve some issues
Back to your issue; I think you should simply check the Intel page and should install the latest, available WLan driver for this minPCI WLan card.
    Furthermore you can choose between 2 different WLan configuration possibilities;
    1) you can use the Windows own configuration option
    2) You can use an WLan configuration client like Intel ProSet Utility
If you use the Intel ProSet Utility then the Windows own option must be disabled.
As last but not least you should check if all the settings in the Wireless LAN TCP/IP protocol are set to automatic.
    By the way; if you use the XP then you should install this patch;
+The Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)/Wireless Provisioning Services Information Element (WPS IE) update for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is available+

I would like to assist you with resolving this error. I recommend downloading and saving Microsoft Fix it onto your Desktop (If it doesn't give you the option, then it should be in your downloads folder.  Once it is saved then follow these steps:
