Interactive Software

Hi,
Sorry if the title is a bit vague, I am unsure of the
terminology for this area of web design.
The new generation websites are having more user interaction,
like moving photos around onscreen on flickr.com and the following
website which has sparked my interest. To be able to custom design,
manipulate and view t-shirt samples in real time.
http://www.customink.com/lab/?PK=04600
What software is used to build these sites?
Is there stuff available on Open Source?
Where are there tutorials to learn all this jazz?
Do you think customink commissioned a purpose built app or
tweeked an off-the-shelf product?
I am looking at a setup for a website where customers can
build their own tour package by slotting different components
together (like you drag photos about on Flickr).
Thanks for your input.

Look for AJAX in Google, thats the technology used. Some
people call it Web 2.0 as well, but its just some clever Javascript
library. There are several frameworks, SPRY is one of them made my
Adobe.
Facebook is a good example of it used well.

  • 60 gig iPod  with 4 hours of use on it froze in the middle of a song.

My battery is half full. (I'm an optimist). When I connect it to my computer my cpu goes to 100% capacity. Huh! I unplugged it and opened the iTunes program and followed the resetting directions. I have no response flipping the hold switch and then holding the menu button. I also tried doing this while wagging my tail. That didn’t help either.
Upon connecting my iPod again, I was able to get the message that my drive is corrupted. I have never sullied my virginal drive so quickly. This one only has about 4 hours of play on it. I am more than willing to take a dump and lose all 11 gigs of indigestible audio and video stuff if I can get the benefit of restoring my stream of music. Lowered expectations really can work - sometimes. I attempted to restore this unit. The "Restore" function does not work. It tells me that it failed. oh well!
This is my second failed 60 gig video ipod TODAY. The Apple tech support tells me they do not support my other Ipod that I attempted to run on Vista Ultimate on my new 64 bit HP Notebook Pavilion.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can restore this iPod. Now I understand why some electronic mfg’s put a pin hole in there equipment to reset it to mfg. specs, just in case the interactive software fails.
Anyone know where I can find a pinhole to stick my pinhead?
    Anomie

Make sure the screen is clean, if that doesn't fix it you may have to restore it. You can do this by plugging it into your computer. Select the restore option. Make sure you have it backed up because the restore will erase everything, but once you sync it with iTunes you will be fine.

  • Creating a report about games

I'm trying to create a report that list all computers in specific computer labs that have games install on them. And I don't consider the games Solitary, MineSweeper and FreeCell as important. So I don't include them in my search. Here's what I have so far.
    Column:
Name of product - ex.: Unreal Tournament
Category of product - ex.: Games
Company - ex.: GT Interactive Software
    PC name - ex.: B121-21
    Path - ex.: C:\Program Files\...
    Criterias:
    ( Product Category = Games ) AND
( Name of product not = Solitary AND
Name of product not = FreeCell AND
Name of product non = Minesweeper ) AND
( Name of PC Contains b037 OR
Name of PC Contains b273 OR
Name of PC Contains d136 OR
Name of PC Contains h023 ) AND
    ( Path Begin with C:\)
The problem is when I include the column "Path" I get 14 records which contains most of the time duplicates PC. But when I skip this column the report seems good. But I really need to include the path in my report. That way the teacher can more easily find and remove the game in question. So is it even possible to do that?
Thanks in advance for the help!

I found a way to do it by removing the column "Path" and keeping the criteria "Path Begin with C:\". That way it only list the games that are installed on the local drive without any duplicate.

  • Review Quiz button does not navigate to the first quiz question..

    Hi,
so I have created an interactive software simulation guide for users of my organisation. At the end of this guide there is a quiz (multiple choice, true or false questions) with 15 slides. At the end of the quiz the results screen is displayed with the "Review Quiz" button. Clicking this navigates the user to slide 72/245 rather than the beginning of the quiz, the first question.
    How can this be fixed?!
    Many thanks,
    Achello

You have an interactive object somewhere on that slide that is scored to be added to the quiz.
Open the Advanced Interaction dialog (F9) and look for the object there.  Remove the score.

  • Audio - Best Practice

    Hi,
I have been using Captivate for a while now, and am slowly
starting to get the hang of it!
I am currently working on a project which includes static
instructional material that is broken up by interactive software
demos, all deployed through a LMS.
I have not delved into using audio in my captivate projects
before however am about to take the plunge . . .
I am wondering what information to best include in the audio
    tracks?
Should i essentially cover the (limited) content that is
shown in the captivate captions or should I expand on these and
provide more in depth detail (i.e. information taken from the more
    theoretical static content)?
I want to steer away from providing any new information in
the audio tracks because I do not know if all users will turn the
    sound on :)
Any thoughts, advice, or links to articles covering this
    topic would be most appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Matt.

    Matt,
I have had similar questions and I decided to look for some
answers rather than give my own experience. In attending seminars
on learning and e-learning I remember getting conflicting advice
from experts. Some say the audio should be exactly the same as the
text and others say they should not be the same.
Ask your self, what value will the audio add to the project?
Do all of your users have audio and do they have headsets or
speakers? Why are you adding audio? Is it because you want to
experiment or because your audience is asking for it?
I did a google search on "elearning audio vs text" and it
turned up some interesting ideas. One was an article on the Adobe
    site. Try this link
    elearningtech.blogspot.com/2006/03/what-prevents-use-of-research-example.html
    and this article
    http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/pdfs/captivate_leveraging_multimedia.pdf
I also thought this was a good article and it has some other
links you may want to explore.
    communication.howstuffworks.com/elearning6.htm
Some of the other ideas in this google search may be good but
they are blocked by our security. At any rate, this is food for
    thought.
My own preference is to have text and audio be similar but
different. You have to think about the people who can only read vs
those who can only hear. Do they both get the same story as the
people who do both? At least with text, screen readers can do the
audio for those who cannot see and it still works for those who
cannot hear. Another thought is with text people can read at their
own speed. With sound, you have to listen at the rate of the
machine. The other thing is audio takes up a lot of computer space
especially over the web. Captivate files are huge when adding
    sound.
    Hope this helps.

  • Names of objects for multiple actions in different slides

I am trying to develope an interactive software guide which
requires something like a panel to insert it in each slide. This
panel contains precise instructions on how tu use the interface
    visible in the current slide.
The problem is that sometimes the panel hides part of the
interface. I would like to have a button somewhere in each slide so
that the student can simply hide the panel when is obscuring
something important. I don´t have any problem for preparing
one panel for one slide using multiple actions for hiding or
showing the panel, captions, buttons, etc. But the problem is that
in each slide the similar objects have different names assigned
automatically by Captivate. I found no way to assign same names in
different slides so that afterwards, assigning multiple actions
would be only a matter of copy and paste from slide to slide. I
tried to think something with variables but I gave up.
I am using Captivate 4 Trial. Somebody has a nice good idea?
    :)

    Hi,
Inorder to give same name to the objects in different slides,
there is a workaround. Immediately after opening a project, give
the same name to the objects in different slides.
    Hope this solves your problem.
    thanks

  • Internet Explorer error when running my demo

I created a demo, an interactive software simulation and a quiz in Captivate. I published it and then zipped it up and took the zip file over to the media folder in Microsoft's LMS or LCDS. When I preview or run it, I continually get Internet Explorer script errors. It seems to get it at each slide. I can say Yes through each error and the each piece runs correctly. I get an object oriented error, a null is null 0 or not an object and and object required error depending on which piece I am viewing. I have done all the various things that are suggested to do when you get Internet Explorer script errors. It runs fine in captivate. I created a quick demo in Camtasia and it runs fine. I have talked to Microsoft and they can't seem to help me. Has anyone used this tool or run into this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. BTW I am running Internet Explorer 8, XP OS with service pack 3 installed.

    Hello,
Perhaps I misunderstand, but why did you zip it up yourself instead of having it zipped by Captivate? For uploading to our LMS I always choose that option, worth trying not?

  • Can i run applications on ipad from icloud?

I have a piece of interaction software (project management training) and I wonder if anybody knows if I can store this application on iCloud and run it from the iPad?

The software would have to be optimized to run on an iOS device such as an iPad.
And you can only store apps that were downloaded and installed from the App Store on iTunes / iCloud.
See Store > Automatic Downloads here > Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices

  • Adobe Fixes Critical Problem, Keeps Fix from Some Users

Before explaining my situation, I'll ask my question for the community up front: Is there a way for a single retail-licence holder like myself to get this patch or otherwise fix the text entry box focus problem? (Don't post stolen versions of the patch.)
I hold a retail license for Captivate 6 and am on the brink of finishing a 3-month-long project. The only thing keeping me from publishing my interactive software emulation is a problem with the Captivate software I purchased: that the cursor is not placed inside a text entry box when the box appears (which for me is always at the very start of a slide).
So, after a quick search on the problem I discovered that there is a patch available that includes a fix for it.
I ran updates from inside Captivate as the webpage instructed, but the problem persisted. After getting on the horn with Adobe, it turns out that this patch is only available for volume licence holders and subscription-based license holders.
The patch contains both enhancements and fixes, making it something they've sort of monetized I guess by incentivizing/rewarding non-retail license holders. One simple question remains though: Why haven't they made bug fixes available to all their customers? Why do I have to bend over backwards to fix a problem that I was shipped? The problem has been fixed! Why isn't the fix included in Captivate's normal updates?
According to the dude I talked to from Adobe, the only way for me to fix the problem is to subscribe or buy a volume license. I'm probably going to pay $20 for a month of subscription to get the patch so I can publish my video. And then again for the next four videos in the series, assuming the fix isn't pushed to the normal updates by then. (Apparantly the fixes dissipate when the subscription does)
Am I missing something here? Is there a way for a single retail-licence holder like myself to get this patch or otherwise fix the text entry box focus problem? (Don't post stolen versions of the patch).

    Hi Matt,
    I have sent you PM.

  • Display an image on button click?

    Hi,
I'm using Captivate 3 and trying to set up an image to be
displayed in a certain position on the screen when a button is
clicked. It would always be on the top layer to overlay anything
else on the screen at the time. I need to do this for multiple
slides so it would be way too confusing to try to use multiple
    slides to accomplish this.
I am thinking it might be javascript? (I don't know what the
code would be though) But I realize it might just be another trick.
I thought this would be a popular request but searching in the
forums and Google hasn't yielded anything helpful yet.
    Thanks!

    Hi Rick,
Let me back up a step and explain the issue with my project.
I'm creating an interactive software simulation using png images of
the application pages and inserting click boxes and buttons to give
the illusion the user is in a 'real' training environment. The
    application is a windows based one, with three types of navigation;
tabs, icons and menus. Creating the tab navigation was pretty
straightforward, I put an image of each tabbed page on its own
captivate slide and included click boxes to link the proper tabs to
the proper pages. Looks pretty good so far.
My challenge is with the menu options. I would like the user
to be able to select a menu option, see the drop down image of the
choices, click on the choice and go to the correct new page. The
challenge is the layering and timing. The menu options are on the
same pages as the tab page images, the timing is already tied into
what needs to happen with the tab images. So I was hoping if I
could find a way to put a hot spot over say, the File menu, have
the menu options appear, and have the user click on an option to be
taken to the new page. Using the timeline, I set the first menu
option to pause at 1.5 seconds, then the new menu option image
would appear after clicking, then a hot spot on the menu option
image would take the user to the new correct page. Still with me
If I use the timing feature, and click on a menu for the drop
down image to appear, then all the drop down images appear. That's
why I think your idea of a success caption is potentially
brilliant. I tried making a custom caption by selecting Success
Caption>Custom and then selecting the image bmp that I saved in
the Adobe Captions gallery. On previewing, the image is not in the
success caption. So I looked further at the gallery and the images
there have files with .FCM extensions. Looks to be some type of
    text file, not sure?
So... <whew> there's my dilemma. Bottom line I am
looking for best practices to create a software simulation (without
using motion recording because I also need to create these in large
quantity with minor image changes... John Doe and Jane Doe and
such) when the software has integrated tab, menu and icon
    navigation.
    Your thoughts?
    thanks

  • Building 2 position, 2 axes mechanical system

I am trying to build a two axis, two position (each axis) mechanical system, and am just trying to pick cost-effective hardware/software. The motors need to hold at < 6 in-lb (~ 65 N-cm) of torque. Speed: slow, resolution: low. Basically no bells and whistles. I am looking at the NI PCI-7332 controller. The website gives me a bunch of accessories to choose from (below), but I don't what is needed, and what is extra. Specifically, are these needed and why?: the MID-7602, the SHC68-C68-S, UMI-7764 (I suppose these are needed for closed loop operation). And of course I will need motors for which I am still looking. Thanks.

    Hi,
Here are some comments to each of the components.
    I hope that helps,
    Jochen
    778924-02 NI PCI-7332 Low Cost 2 Axis Stepper Only Controller 5 - 10 $ 799.00
This is the brain of the system that does all motion control tasks (step and trajectory generation, limit switch monitoring,...). This component is required
    778553-01 Motion Assistant SW for Motion Control Programming 1 - 2 $ 799.00
This is an interactive software that helps prototyping your application. It comes with the NI-Motion driver (hardware driver for the PCI-7332) as a free evaluation version so you can give it a try and buy it if you find it valuable. This component is optional.
    778003-01 MID-7602, 2 Axis Integrated Stepper Driver Power Unit, 115V 5 - 10 $ 1,999.00
The PCI-7332 can't drive a motor directly. Thus you need a power drive like the MID-7602. You can hook up the the PCI-7332 directly to the MID-7602. This device can drive two 2-phase stepper motors. You can either use the MID-7602 or a stepper drive from another vendor. This component (or a 3rd party drive) is required.
    186380-0R5 SHC68-C68-S, 68 pin VHDCI to 68 pin VHDCI, 0.5m 5 - 10 $ 150.00
0.5 m cable to connect the PCI-7332 to the MID-7602. Longer cables are available. This component is required if you want to use the MID-7602.
    Third-Part Drive Accessory Set
    777978-02 UMI-7764(20Mhz Encoders)4Axis Mot Wiring Connectivity Mod No Cab. 5 - 10 $ 295.00
This is an active breakout box to connect the PCI-7332 to a 3rd party drive. Please have a look a this document for more information about the UMI. This component is required if you want to use a 3rd party drive.

This is a 2 m cable to connect the PCI-7332 to the UMI-7764. This component is required if you want to use a UMI-7764.

  • Using Windows Media for Mac OS X

When I try to download and open Windows Media for the Mac OS X, I get the message "There is no default application specified to open the document "Windows Media.stix" with a tab marked 'choose application' under that.
Naturally, I know what to do, or what application to choose....not. What application am I supposed o choose to open the download and how am I supposed to know that?
    thank you!

Thanks for the message and info.
Before I install Flip4Mac, I should probably uninstall the Windows Media Player for OS X first, correct? In my application folder, I have an icon marked "uninstallflash_playerosx.dmg". (I also have "installflash_player_9_ubbeta.dmg" in the applications folder as well.) Are these connected to the Windows Media installer, or are they something else? I don't know what they are or what they do.
Something is also definitely wrong with my chat functions--which relates to flash player, I think? In downloading interactive software or chat room functions from websites, I get the image of the recycled coffee cup---but that's it. Nothing starts, nothing works. I have 'enable java' 'enable javascript' and 'enable plug-ins' all checked under preferences in Safari.I have both java 1.4.2 and java 1.3.1 settings (with 1.4.2 as the default I guess, but am not positive).
Are the Windows Media and flash and chat functions related? Is there something else I should be doing to activate chat or interactive functions?
    Thanks again!

  • When streaming a live webcast laptop freezes

I have attempted two webcast using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2 and about 20 minutes into the webcast my laptop freezes. I have to shut-down holding down the power button to re-boot and restart Encoder to resume live stream. Looking at the encoding log I did not see any problems like "drops" to alert me that I may encounter a problem.

The Encoder setting I am using are:
    Video:
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Input Size 720x480

    Required Bandwidth read 406
    Audio:

I am new to working with video and do not have clue what might be causing this problem other than laptop upgrades needed?
    Thanks

It sounds as if there is a problem with the TV\Monitor. I note that you have not specified what other inputs the device has. That would help. You call it a monitor. Most of the rest of us are using LCD displays. It is only 20 inch per your description. I wouldn't use it if it wouldn't accept a video signal with a resolution higher than 1024 x 768.

  • Actionscript vs html5 and javescript

hi, i would like to ask you if you can tell me about the differencies between actionscript , html5 and javescript or tell me if there is same form of documentetion about this thing. Also i want to know what excactly does  Adobe edge uses to build amimations and how it is different from adobe flash. similarities and differencies beetwen flash and edge.

I was programming with Flash too. This is the core discussion:
Things we make in flash requires Flash player to run on top of browsers (like an additional layer to convert/translate it). Regardless of hassles to update flash player for viewing flash contents and SEO worries, this system also consumes more energy when executed, which is critical for mobile devices and more efficient devices yet to come. Therefore, although actionScript is a much more beautiful language than JavaScript (my opinion), but JavaScript is now superior because it is Native to browsers. HTML5 like HTML translates the layout of the raw content to browsers. CSS modifes the layout further, and you can use JavaScript and its libraries like Jquery to animate, interact things more artfully. Adobe Edge is a product that tries to help designers focus on timeline based animation(like flash) without worrying so much on how to syntax CSS and Jquery. When launching the software you can see CSS related Control options on your left and timeline actions translates into javascript. So you have this platform that lets you move and animate things the way you did in flash, only this time, trying to produce a WEB-FRIENDLY output, instead of a SWF file for instance. you get a HTML file and bunch of js files which are healthy stuff. I think flash is still a kick *** animation and interactive software, i keep using it for stand alone presentations and project demos, it only lost its use for browser related productions. As a flash designer you ll be disappointed first by starting Edge, but soon you ll pick up speed IF you care to learn more about CSS and JS of course because u need to use the coding panel if you were a hard core actionscript developer, timeline alone is never enough. There are enough similarities for you to not miss Flash. But you ll miss actionScript. just the joy of calling a symbol and asking him to listen to an event wasssss soooo CUTTTEeeeee....the language was meant to talk to stuff like a "puppeteer". so genius. the HTML CSS stuff r boring structural formats, javascript is DUMb actionscript in my opinion, Jquery is smart in its own way but not beautiful, very efficient though. anyway:

  • Shortcut Keystrokes recorded using Word do not work in browser playback?

I am using Captivate 3 and am recording interactive software tutorials for use by remote students accessing our web site.  I have experienced a number of problems, one of which is if I record shortcut keystrokes in Training Simulation, eg Ctrl + O, this then activates the Open dialog for my browser (IE7) when this is used as an interactive training session.
In addition, when using the Prnt Scrn to capture additional images, these are usually poor quality but more often appear as blank slides.  Help on both please.
One final question - where can I access, say, a one day on line tutorial for Intermediate use of Captivate 3, ideally geared towards recording on line interactive software tutorials.
    Many thanks.

    Hi there
    Lynda.com?
You are asking for some fairly specific training. Training I'm not sure exists exactly as you list it. Most training works by following a specific curriculum that has been designed to show you how to use a fairly generic set of the features of the application.
