Is T61 hinge broken under warranty?

Hi all,
Recently I found that my T61 right LCD hinge was broken. The machine is still under warranty. I sent to the service centre and a few days later the person told me the hinge is not under warranty and I have to pay about 100 bucks USD to replace the part! I read through the warranty many times and 100% sure I didn't void it.
My question: Is the hinge under warranty?
Thanks.
zhichien

The hinge is under warranty as far as material defects are concerned. But the most common case of hinge breakage is that the ThinkPad has been dropped. I don't know the situation in Singapore but here in Germany the manufacturer must verify that the problem is not his fault within the first year of warranty (and not the consumer). So my hinge got replaced on warranty.
If you have evidence that the hinge broke without you handling your TP negligentyou probably have good chances to have the hinge replaced for free as well.
The price of 100$ might sound high at first but if you take into account  that the complete display has to be disassembled and the structure frame needs to be replaced thats an okay price. However my TP came back from repair with the hinge even more broken then before.

  • Can apple replace my 32g 3gs which is broken (under warranty) even though they are no longer sold??

since they are not being sold any more can i still get a replacment??

I also have a 32G 3GS (also under warranty), and it was having issues with the side volume on/off key and with 3G reception. I took it to the Apple Store, and I got a new version of the same model. It might have been refurbished -- don't know. But it's new to me. Though the side volume on/off key works just fine now, I'm still having some 3G access issues. But I just read some possible solutions for that in these forums and will try those next.

  • Broken Hinge still under Warranty

Hello-As many others have already posted, after 8 months my hinges started to come undone. Now, it won't close and the screen is starting to seperate.  Never dropped, stayed on table the entire time. This is such poor construction,  I can't understand why HP has let this happen. One of the usb ports broke inside also. How does one get this corrected?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. • T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Yes lead_org, it snapped and half piece stayed in its place inside the bezel.  I didnot know that the piece was disconnected so I tried to open and it close once , which caused the bezel plastic where is covers the hinge to open up.
At that stage I closed the lid and opened up a case to ship the box. I did take pictures before shipping the laptop , the laptop was never dropped, there were no body cracks or any other damages other than the broken hinge and lcd bezel plastic bending where the broken piece is in contact.
Only the right hinge is broken, the left one is intact.
Preventive maintenance was the first time I heard for electonic items from any hardware vendors.

  • My Charger is broken but still under warranty but I'm not near any apple stores, My Charger is broken but still under warranty but I'm not near any apple stores

My Charger is broken but still under warranty but I'm not near any apple stores, can I just call I send my old one back and they send me a new one

No. You must call and make an arrangement to return yours for a replacement. They will set up the return and send you a box and shipping label. Then you send your old charger, cable, etc. back. A new one will be returned to you.
Do not simply send something to Apple.

  • What would apple do if my ipod touch is broken and is still under warranty?

What would apple do if my ipod touch is broken and is still under warranty?

It depends on how it was broken. Apple are very strict when it comes to enforcing warrantys so unless the damage was a result of a manufacturing error then you have little chance of having your device replaced or serviced without having to pay a fee.
    The warranty states that Apple do not cover;
damage resulting from accident - ie. accidentally dropping it
    liquid damage
    disassembly
unauthorised service - ie. trying to fix the hardware yourself
    unauthorised modifications - ie. "jailbreaking"

  • Broken screen on 561-373-3900  under warranty ?

replaced screen in january under warranty  its broken again
    can it be replaced ?

If you mean defective and the screen was replaced by an Apple Store and the iPhone is still under the original warranty, then yes, it will be replaced again under warranty. Otherwise you will have to negotiate with Apple on the matter, though they're usually pretty rigid about providing service after the warranty has expired.
If by broken you mean damaged, that's not covered by warranty, but Apple will still replace the screen or the entire iPhone, though you'll have to pay their standard charge for such service.
    Regards.

  • Tightening Hinge Under Warranty?

Will Apple tighten the hinges on the display under the warranty? Mine is a little loose, and want to get everything fixed while it is still under warranty. The display works great, and no noticable problems, just a little slack in it. Everytime I open it up, it seems to go farther and farther back, but I have never pushed on the display more than its supposed to go.

My suggestion would be to just make an appointment to take it in and have them look at it. I would assume it would be covered, but thats for them to tell you, and they could when you have it in there.

  • The lock button and screen on my iphone 5 are broken, does apple repair this if the phone is under warranty?

The lock button and screen on my iphone 5 are broken, does apple repair this if the phone is under warranty?

Yes, if the screen is not cracked, this will be handled by Warranty. Cracked screen is Out of Warranty repair, and for iPhone 5 this will cost $229. For either, make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

  • Screen is broken...still under warranty?

my screen cracked and i asked the tech guys about it. they said that they can repair it free of charge. so i click on the link they give me and it says i have to purchase their service. how to i get them to repair it for free? and it is still under warranty.

look i know that there was some ipods that were
having lcd issues and the screen was cracking inside
instead of externally. that WAS covered by the
warranty, or have u not read previous posts where it
was covered. don't get all snotty with me in ur
replies either. u Don't know everything
That was a very very very small fraction of iPod nanos. I do not believe that iPods are still experiencing that.
    From this article...
Our figures show this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 per cent of the total iPod nano units that we've shipped (as of that point--many months ago). I doubt that newer iPod nanos are having the same issue.

  • My ipod touch is 3 months old is it under warranty for broken charger pins

my ipod touch is 3 months old i tried to plug the charger cable in yesterday and it would not plug in.Now it plugs in but struggles to charge will apple replace this for me? is it under warranty as it is only 3 months old?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and find out. Usually Apple says that damage is caused by operator erro/misuse and thus not covered by warranty
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    If not covered by warranty
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • I think someone told me that apple doesn't have the iphone 5 in stock anymore, so if I bring my broken iphone 5(under warranty) is there any chance they give me a 5c or 5s?

Idk if the stock thing is true but I think someone told me it.

    Someone told you wrong.
An exchange under warranty will be the same model, storage capacity, and color.

  • Satellite lid hinge broken

I am currently deployed to the Middle East.  Stateside, I work as a computer technician and operate a helpdesk. I deal with various computer brands on a day to day basis. I bought a Toshiba laptop, model Satellite C655-S5122, for personal use from a friend before I deployed. I already owned an ASUS tablet but wanted a way to more conveniently take online college courses. The Toshiba was only two months old when I purchased it. I inspected the computer and there was no damage to the outside and functioned properly.  Three months after I purchased the computer I noticed the left hinge of the lid did not close properly.  Not long afterwards the right hinge started malfunctioning also. I have seen this issue in other computer brands. Typically the issue can be resolved with replacing a screw that is loose or fallen out all together. I took the back off the computer in an attempt to tighten the screws that hold the hinges in place. It did not take me long to realize just how poorly made this computer is. The hinges were screwed into the bottom plastic shell. The plastic screw holes that hold the hinges in place had completely broken off.  The screw holes were not even reinforced. I understand this is a base model computer; however, it was unable to hold up to normal wear and tear. The computer has not been dropped, hit, or slammed.  When closing the lid I have always held both sides and closed it easily.  I am very disappointed in how this computer was designed.  I have attached pictures showing the problem.  Pic 1 shows the screws that hold down the hinge with the broken plastic attached.Pic 2 shows the plastic that houses the screw holes. The plastic was painted copper to look like metal.Pic 3 shows both hinges that have broken the plasticPic 4 shows the broken plastic that used to be the screw holes I want to reiterate that the computer in the above pictures was not dropped or mishandled in any way. The damages occurred from normal wear and tear. The Toshiba Satellite C655-S5122 is by far the most poorly designed computer I have ever worked on. I will not be purchasing another Toshiba brand product and will not recommend the brand to my customers until Toshiba can produce a better product.

So my son got the Satellite C655 for Christmas 2011. He only needed it for minecraft so it seemed like a more than cabable laptop. How wrong.Wish I had seen rewiews here first. The hinge broke on the right side of the laptop, and he continued to use it, though not much time passed before the screen stopped working. We got him another one (ok so now I sound really dumb..). Anyways we put the broken one to one side until my wife said she could do with a new laptop, You know what? We should get the broken one repaired under warranty. HaHa..You have all read the rest, pay for sending it back after explaining the reason for sending it back, and of course Sir, We at Tossiba will fix it for you.So now...

Well... Tossiba will not fix the hinge which has caused the screen to fail. They state water damage, and once the system board & keyboard are replaced they will send it back (please note - with the screen not working or the hinge fixed, so its useless. Not sure what to do as I'm quite prepared to go via the Jams arbitration which is $400 though Tossiba will refund the cost. I'm looking at this and should speak to Jams http://www.jamsadr.com. pictures attached that Tossiba sent me (very kindly)... Toshiba corprate division called yesterday & you are correct in thinking that toshiba denies any faults with its hinges. It's all my sons fault & he has to pay for it even though he is 12 and cant work!!! Another big disaster should have purchased him an Apple like I have as their help is amasing, and not transfered to an agent in India that can't access information unless you allow then two minutes (maybe that is the connection speed of Toshiba computers)!  I'm very unhappy and will be looking to get compensation.
