Java patch upgrade

Hi Experts,
I have a question in regards to Java patch upgrade. Say you are running on SPSxx and there has been a new Java patch released for this SPS that will fix some problem that you are experiencing.
Should you then only apply the patches for the components BI-BASE-S & BIWEBAPP (which is enough to get the fix applied) or should you apply patches for all components (where the patch is available)?
Please let me know your recommendations and previous experiences.

hi,
If you are applying only a higher patch for SPS then it is ok to apply it only for the 2 componants mentioned by you.

Hi,
doing an upgrade is a one way. About "revert back few components"
In theory you would start with SP13 and only install the SP22 version of what you want to upgrade, but: That's not a good idea. Depending on what you want to keep at SP13, SP22 won't work.

JSPM ERROR- cannot add JAVA patches to deploy queue via JSPM

Hi Experts! Last two days I have deployed java patches(SP13 to SP18).......almost finished......i have to deploy 2 more components only but suddenly i got error.now i cannot add java patches to JSPM deployment queue. am getting error '/usr/sap/BWP/DVEBMGS10/j2ee/JSPM/log/log_2009_07_22_23_41_20/JSPM_MAIN_1_01.LOG.' I have checked trouble ticket log and i have followed Snote-1329945 and changed instace.properties files as instance.runmode=normal and just restarted java via SMICM only (server reboot is not possible in my environment)

Looks like the problem is above 1
Do the following. This should resolve the issues.
1. If your dialog instance are also having the Java stack then do one thing move your profile folder to some other name and create a new profile folder with the name "profile".
Copy only the central instance profiles Default, Instance and start profile.
Then give a try.
2. If you do not have the java instance in Dialog instance still do the same thing what I have described. move the current profile folder and create the new folder with the name "profile" and copy the profiles Default, Instance and start profile.
Chances are the JSPM is reading some other profile while starting the JSPM.

Sun DS 5.2 SP4 patch upgrade - Cognos environment

We have Cognos v7.3MR2, using bundled Sun Dir. Server v5.2.
We are upgrading to Cognos v7.4, which bundles Sun Dir. Server v5.2 SP4. So, we wish to just patch the underlying Sun DS to v5.2 SP4, and avoid a complete export LAE >> uninstall >> install >> import LAE process.
I read part # 819-4461-10 Sun Java ES Upgrade Guide for MS Windows, and it says that the SP4 patch ZIP (121392-02.zip) is good to get you from SP3 to SP4.
All I know is that the build I have installed today (as part of Cognos v7.3 MR2) is build # 2003.143.0014 (taken from slapd.inf).
THE QUESTION: Can I apply the SP4 patch ZIP to upgrade from that build level of DS v5.2 and achieve SP4 nirvana?

The pstack clearly indicates some contention on a RW Lock, deep in the processing of access controls (and there are only searches).
But it seems that the contention is not a reader / writer lock, but too much concurrent access on the lock queue.
I think you should call Sun support and have them investigate further the issue.

What level of Java patch should be applied With ABAP patch level 19

I have a newly installed Netweaver 2004 s XI system. the support pack level is
SAP_ABA         0019
SAP_BASIS      0019
PI_BASIS          0019
ST-PI                 0016
SAP_BW           0019
ST-A/PI             0000
What should be the level for Java package and JSPM should be applied. Can we apply level 17 or should ABAP and JAVA be of the same level??

Actually now my Java version and all java patches are on the level 19. But my IGS is on level 13. The highest level available is also only 16. So do i need to upgrade my IGS as it will require kernel upgrade or level 13 is ok?

Hello to all,
we've upgraded our SAP NetWeaver PI system to the latest SPS.
Now there have been released new java patches (hot fixes).
Can I create a maintenance task in order to download all available patches in whole?
If I create a new task I get always following error:
Wrong Input data: Wrong or higher EHP version found SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NW PI 7.1

Java Patches

ABAP patches write many changes to the database.
What about Java patches? Are most of the changes done the the database or filesystem?

Hello,
Java patches update both OS level files as well as the java schema of the database. Ideally if you want to take a backup after the patch upgrade, you should take the database backup as well as the OS level backup of "/usr/sap/"<SID>"

we are having SRM 5.0 server on that we are planning to upgrade basis and abap patches. i want to know about the pre requisite for this on SRM 5.0. one of my collegue said it is dependent upon java patches. for that we need to use JSPM to updrade all patches. if anyone have ever done all this thing or have any information please help me on this.

But when i was applying sap.com/KMC COLL support pack ,it is not getting deployed, it says unable to deployed ,
only at deployement phase it not able to deploy

I have successfully done the patch upgrade in dev portal.
I am facing the issue in custom WD application in QA portal system, in dev portal the application is working fine and after transporting the objects into QA portal ,while on preview the iview its giving me error : "Failed in WD JNDI lookup ".
I have tested the WD application from Web dynpro console and its working fine , even i have created iview in QA portal and its working fine but while transporting the iview from DEV to QA Portal is not working . Can any one help me on that .

JSPM Error while applying As Java Patch to PI 7.1

Dear All
I am facing an issue when trying to patch new Pi 7.1 Ehp1 Java patch through JSPM
steps i did
. since the download manger is not working for us i click on the link and down load all the patches to windows machine ( Installed machine is AIX)
all the patches were downloded in SCA.zip " LMNWATOOLS04_0-20003137.SCA.zip" format which is not recognizable through JSPM
i rename all the file taking off zip extension "LMNWATOOLS04_0-20003137.SCA" , but now the initiating is working but it throws an error saying to revise all the selected patches?
" Error occured, while reading refactoring configuration from SDU file /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in/ESREGBASIC04_0-20003135.SCA. java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: "
how can i deploy these patches comes with SCA.zip format ? i know only SCA can be deployed , but since i have downloaded them directly it converted to SCA.zip
please advice me how to resoleve this urgently

It is fine just to delete the .zip at the end. The issue has another reason.
Have you patched the JSPM before you applied the patches?

Kernel Patch upgrade results into error

Recently, we upgraded our R/3 640 kernel from patch number 196 to 327. It went successful.
But now, the Sales and order team is having problem in saving the orders(VA02, VA01).
While saving Sales order, error pops up saying "dialog step number missing".
Kindly suggest.

The problem has been resolved.
As i said, problem wasnt with the upgrade, but came thereafter, functional team faced issues while switching between the windows.
Problem was with the Gui level, it needed to be upgraded too after the kernel patch upgrade.

No. If the environment would be wrong the system wouldn´t start up.
Core dumps are in 99 % of the cases program errors (in the SAP kernel or in an interface (libdbora*)), misaligend accesses of data etc.
If you encounter such an error have a look in the C-Stack. If you can´t see where the error is happening opening an OSS call. Most of those errors are fixed by installing the latest patches for the kernel and the database interface.

Issue with Default Variable in WAD after Java Patch 7.01.7.31

Hello all,
I'm running into an issue with the Web Application Designer Template execution for a particular default variable. This started occuring after Java Patch 7.01.7.31 we had implented over the weekend.
The issue is when Executing the WAD Template, we have a selection screen with a variable with default values assigned to it. When leaving the default values and hitting Ok to execute through the screen does not register and stays as is and I get a message at the top with the following: Characteristic Prob % Number has no master data for "1.00" or you do not have authorization.
This only seems to occur for this default variable on info object Prob % Number, the other default variables seem to work fine. Also another note when clearing out the values it returns data and executes through. The value 1.00 is also a valid value in the cube and also in the output display. If we run this report in the BEx analyzer, the selection screen executes through with the default variable perfectly fine, this is only an issue with the Web Application Designer Template.
Has anyone ran into this? I've searched and have not found any notes as of yet.
