  • JVM Hotspot compiler crashed

    Hello,
The JVM crashed in one of our Solaris production environments. The cause of the crash appears to be the HotSpot compiler. It seems that the JVM was trying to compile frequently used code and then it crashed. I have checked the forums and I found one other message with the same Internal Error ID. However, in that message, it is suggested that the JVM itself is running out of C malloc space (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=37&threadID=5127551).
I have verified that the JVM was not running out of memory when it crashed. There was over 9 GB of swap and physical memory available to the JVM when the crash happened.
Below are the contents of the hs_err_pid file.

the application is crashing in compiler thread.
the easiest workaround is to use -server or -client (vice versa) and check with which option your application doesn't crash.

  • 64bit JVM Crash: interaction between Concurrent GC and HotSpot Compiler?

During a test of a standalone server application, the application experienced a JVM crash for with no readily identifiable cause. We would like to at least come up with a theory to explain the crash; right now we have no idea what happened. We haven't found anything similar on the web so I am posting this to see if anybody has come across a similar problem.
The OS was 64bit Windows Server 2003 family on an AMD machine with 8 hyperthreaded CPUs (4 dual-core, I believe). The JVM was a 1.5.0 Server VM. An excerpt of the crash log is below.
The closest report we can find is Bug ID 5048441 which identified intermittent crashes with the Concurrent MarkSweep GC enabled; somebody claimed to have seen the problem under 1.5 but didn't have much more to add.
We haven't started heavily testing under 64bit just yet but we will be moving soon, so we would really appreciate hearing about similar experiences.

  • Why has HTML in RH X5 glossary hotspots?

    Hi all,
I have a RoboHelp X5 WebHelp project which is updated every quarter.  I do not work in the client's office - simply send the WebHelp to them for publication.  The project is updated every quarter and while testing before this quarter's publication at the end of June a problem has come up with how glossary hotspots display.  After every glossary hotspot (in magenta...client's choice, not mine) we now have an extra space.  In previous publications that extra space wasn't there.  I've pasted a screen shot here to show you:
The IT guy in the client's office diagnosed it this way after looking at the HTML:
    (<a class="glossterm" href="javascript:kadovTextPopup(this)" id="a1">CCO</a> <span class="glosstext" style="display:'none';" id="POPUP181927339">Chief Credit Officer - John Doe</span>).
The problem is the space between </a> and <span (highlighted above). The space needs to be right before the text inside of the <span> tag.
Copied below is code from the last quarter's publication when we didn't have the extra space followed by this quarter's project which suddenly and inexplicably has the extra space.
    (<a class="glossterm" href="javascript:kadovTextPopup(this)" id="a1">CCO</a><span class=glosstext style="display: 'none';" id=POPUP43291891 >   Chief Credit Officer - John Doe</span>)
What I need to try to determine is how and why the HTML would change when I made no change to content in the project and haven't knowingly made any updates to RoboHelp.  The IT guy thought there might be a possibility that an automatic Adobe Updater might have touched RoboHelp somehow.  If that's true, how might I get rid of this problem?  An uninstall and reinstall of RH X5?  And if it isn't possible that the RH software was somehow changed without my doing anything, what else could account for this change in the HTML?  My client doesn't want to publish with these extra spaces but I have no idea how to get rid of them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you.
    Diane
    P.S.
If any of this rings a bell about some recent posts of mine, you're not crazy.  I wrote about a problem I was having with a custom program written for me to identify and locate manually-added glossary hotspots so I could update definitions when necessary.  RoboHelp can only find and update hotspots added with its Glossary Wizard and the client had insisted on some hotspots in places different than the wizard would place them.  Suddenly with this quarter's project publication the program no longer worked and we were unable to find out why.  If in fact the RH software was somehow changed through an automatic update or some such thing, that would explain why my custom program no longer worked...it was looking for HTML that is different than when the programmer first wrote the program for me.

I actually love RoboHelp so hated thinking I was blaming it!
Imported a topic from the problem project into the test project, regenerated
    WebHelp and all is fine.
In case this helps at all, this is the HTML in the test project for a
glossary term in the topic I imported from the real project:
    credit approval authority <!begin!kadov{{><!--
    kadovTextPopupInit('A3');
    //></script><!}}end!kadov-->
And here's the code from that same glossary term as it exists in the real
project where I have the problem:
    credit approval authority <!begin!kadov{{><!--
    kadovTextPopupInit('A3');
    //></script><!}}end!kadov-->
And here's the code for that same glossary term in an old version of the
project where I don't have the spacing problem:
    credit approval authority <!begin!kadov{{><!--
    kadovTextPopupInit('A2');
    //></script><!}}end!kadov--

  • Intermittent problem with Personal Hotspot

    Hello All
I think either my iPad 2 or my iPhone 4 is mental.  Can anyone convince me otherwise?
For some months now I have been experiencing an intermittent problem with tethering my iPad 2 to my iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot.
Sometimes it works without a hitch (although I have to turn the Personal Hotspot on the phone off and on again to get iPad to 'see' it) and at others, like now, it shows me the message 'Unable to join the network 'iPhone'.  It throws the message up so quickly that even though it 'sees' the phone in the list of networks, it behaves as though it can't actually be bothered to even try to connect.
I have tried reboots and restarts, 'forgetting' the network, changing passwords, sacrificing a chicken... all the usual stuff.  But still when it gets in this kind of mood it stubbornly refuses to do anything.  I have even taken it to the Apple store where, not surprisingly it worked first time and the assistant looked at me as though I was an idiot.  It then proceeded not to work for a couple of days again as if punishing me.  There is no problem with the general Wi-Fi connection as I have another phone (an Android) that I run as a Hotspot too.  It has never once had a problem connecting to this or any other Wi-Fi connection..
Confusingly, and rather irritatingly, after a few days of this not-connecting lark it will have a few days of not having a problem connecting at all.  I won't have changed any settings on either iPad or iPhone and so I have no way of figuring out why this is happening.  This has been the same situation with all versions of iOS I have installed ever since buying the phone in April 2012, and the iPad in June 2012.
Please, is there anyone out in the ether that can suggest a solution to this?  Or is one of my Apple products simply mad?  I have given both devices a strong talking-to, but this hasn't sorted the problem either.  Next, I think I might have to try sacrificing a goat.

I have the same issues with my iPhone 5 (6.1.4).  I do not have an answer for you, and perhaps my "workaround" will lead someone with more knowledge about these things to offer us more information.
When I turn on the Personal Hotspot and it does not show up as visible on my iPad or MacBook, or offers that ambiguous message about being unavle to join the network, I perform a few steps that almost always resolves it.  I have to go through these steps twice sometimes.  The order of operations seems to affect the outcome (at least it appears to me that it does)
Turn off WiFi on the client device (iPad, MacBook, Windows laptop, KindleFire, etc)
Turn off Personal Hotspot on iPhone
    Turn off Bluetooth on iPhone
    Turn off WiFi on iPhone
Then turn on Personal Hotspot and allow it to automatically start WiFi and Bluetooth.
Turn on the client WiFi services.
    Connection successful!
As I said, I sometimes need to perform the steps ablve twice, but it eventually works.  It is incredibly frustrating to go through these hoops to make the device perform.  I do not know precisely when the problem began to occur, but I don't think it did not occur on my iPhone 4s with IOS5.
Any help from the Apple guys would be appreciated.  I think it is a software issue, because the shutdown of services and restart seems to resolve the issue.  I guess I might take a trip to the Aple Store to have them look at this behavior.

We have seen numerous of these. Here are some hints. Hope this helps. -Dustin
    1) We see lots of OutOfMemory exceptions being thrown, so we believe this is the real root issue.
    2) We are using log4j 1.2.8. Stack dump almost ALWAYS shows that the unexpected signal occurred in a log4j method as shown in stack trace snippet below.

  • Junit n JVM

    i have a strange problem.
i am using ant to run the junit task. when i do so, some of the junit test cases r failing because the methods in that particular test case are not executed in proper sequence. i have named them as test1Create, test2Update...
    I am using hotspot jvm
if i use Oracle's OJVM then it works fine. But my project specification requires hotspot only.

I think there's something wrong with the design of your test cases, if they're dependent on the order they're run in.
You'll notice that a test class can provide setUp() and tearDown() methods. These should be used so that each test case can be executed independantly of the next.

    2. Right mouse button on the text, insert hotspot
    3. insert the name of the page to link to in Link on the
    property inspector
    4. Export as HTML and images
When I export the HTML and create the test link it works in
Firefox but not Internet explorer !! It should be simple, when
rollover the text changes to a link hand and when I click on it it
goes to the linked page in firefox but not internet explorer.
Am I just bloody stupid and missing something simple ??
    PLEASE HELP !!
    Thanking in advance

  • Installing  Ant/JUnit/Maven on Tiger 10.4.11

    Hi all,
I am working on installing Java JDK 1.7 on a PPC 7450 chipset running 10.4.11 following the installation instructions for
OpenJDK <a href="https://wikis.oracle.com/display/OpenJDK/Darwin9Build"> here </a>, appropriately modified for the PPC.
I am now trying to get a newer version of Ant installed (1.8.4). Ant needs JUnit to install.
In turn JUnit, from github, needs Maven installated first to work, via the command "mvn".
And to complete the circle, Maven needs Ant installed first!
I followed the detailed instuctions <a href="http://wolfpaulus.com/jounal/mac/macmaven/"> here </a> to install Maven on OSX.
Unfortunately, those instuctions seem to only be for the newer Intel-based machines.
I have the environment variables JAVA_HOME = /Library/Java/Home set for java.
java -version yields the expected result :
    <tt>
    java version "1.5.0_19"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_19-b02-306)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_19-138, mixed mode, sharing)
    </tt>
which is the last Apple-supplied JDK for tiger.
The JUnit installation guides I have seen all seem to expect Maven to already be installed since they all seem to end in "mvn install".
I have not been able to find installation instructions to build JUnit from source code directly even though one can download it. In the file
BUILDING that is in the JUnit distribution it explicitly states :
"We do not at this time have an official way to build from the src jar or zip.  If this is an important missing feature, please let us know
            at http://github.com/junit-team/junit/issues"
Does anyone have instructions on how to build JUnit from source code, or how to build Maven from source code?
This seemingly circular dependency is very frustrating. I know I am missing something.
Any tips or links would be greatly appreciated!
    --Ed

    UPDATE:
I think I got to the bottom of the seemingly circular requirements to Ant / Junit / Maven.
Since ant 1.7.0 the Ant source distribution has two additional XML files: fetch.xml and get-m2.xml
The first, fetch.xml is used to go and download optional libraries for ant, one of which is junit.
The second XML file, get-m2.xml was originally part of fetch.xml and later split off into a separate file.
This file, get-m2.xml, similarly gets the Maven 2 Ant tasks.
However, it uses the  XML syntax typefound for the condition property in the Ant task "probe-m2"  which determines if Maven 2 Ant tasks are already installed.
That is a problem since that particular syntax is new in Ant 1.7 and later. If you are using ant .1.6.5, like I am trying to do, to build ant 1.7 on the way to getting a newer JDK, the build process fails right there since that syntax is not understood yet by the older ant.
The error I am referring to is:
get-m2.xml:70: Class org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.ConditionTask doesn't support the nested "typefound" element.
which I see quite often in searching the web for clues.
I *think* the assumption was that one would run the fetch.xml XML file after one had built and installed the newer version of ant first. That makes sense if everything in fetch.xml is indeed optional.
However, they also hard-coded the new dependence on junit into ant 1.7 and later, so it seems to me that one needs an option to run fetch.xml first to grab all required dependencies, install them, and only then run the main build.sh script to build ant.
I therefore edited the get-m2.xml and fetch.xml to use the older XML syntax only available in ant 1.6.5 and was indeed able to get the scripts to download the rest of the dependencies.
Interestingly, all the code download was placed in the Maven 2 repository in my $HOME area and not in the ant 1.7.0 source code tree as I expected.
    I do now see in my $HOME/.m2 Maven 2 repo 3 versions of junit: 3.7, 3.81 & 3.8.2
Now I have to just re-write build.sh and maybe build.xml to point them to the Maven 2 repo to get the required junit code and hopefully the build will then proceed.

  • Unable to establish loopback connection when running junit tests

    Hello,
I just started using jrockit (jrockit-jdk1.6.0_20-R28.1.0-4.0.1) and I encounter a problem running junit tests.
I have 2 tests in the same junit suite, both do binding to 127.0.0.1.
The first test succeeds in the binding. Once it finishes, the second one tries to bind to same address and fails due to IOException, Unable to establish loopback connection (logs below)
If I run them using sun's hotspot jvm they work fine.
If I run them separately, i.e, only one test per suite, each works fine.
It seems that only when switching to jrockit I get the problem.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Edo

  • Droid Charge Mobile Hotspot

Does Verizon charge extra for the Droid Charge Mobile Hotspot feature or is it included in the data package?  Any extra hardware or cables needed?  Does the mobile hotspot work in 3G areas also?  TIA

Thank you for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated, to get unlimited 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot and Mobile Broadband Connect usage until  June 15, 2011, it comes with the purchase of a ThunderBolt by HTC or a DROID Charge by Samsung with a voice plan and a data package $29.99 or higher. The hotspot itself is a data feature not included in the data plan. This is because the data plan covers data usage on the pone itself. The hotspot is a connection point for another device to use its own separate data access the mobile hotspot is designed for 4G coverage just as one of the two devices offered use 4G. In areas where 4G is not available, the devices would default and work on a 3G network. No extra cables or hardware is needed.

  • How to get in touch with a rep?/Turn off wifi hotspot

Hello, i am not seeing an option to get in touch with a Comcast Rep.I understand that it is late, but i do not see an option to start a live chat, or send an email. Also all of my attempts at calling have ended with the line being disconnected while being transfered to an agent.Being such a big comapny, its a little fustrating that i cant get ahold of anyone. Anyway, sorry for the rant, maybe someone here can help faster then someone who works for the company. I am having horrible connection problems, and i just recently found out im providing internet to the public. I have followed the steps to turn off the xfinity hotspot, however i do not have a link to "Manage Xfinity WiFI" under service adress.  My Model number is SMCD3GNV

Bruce, thank you for the link.
What used be under the service address in Users & Preferences was moved to the Services/Internet.
It must be a recent change because the date of the help topic you linked to is June 22, 2015.
I cannot find the help topic which has instructions to disable it under Users & Preferences (which I had seen in the past) so it must have been pulled AFTER Nathanma123 saw it. It was still there in early June because I saw it there when helping someone at Bleeping Computer.
I did think it was odd that the feature was under Users & Preferences. Services/Internet is a better place for it.

  • Thinking of dumping smartphone & hotspot, going basic cell phone

On June 1st, I went from the old Unlimited plan to VZW's current plan and got a Note 3 and WiFi Hotspot. My first bill was 200 bucks, i was told the next month should be about 90 plus taxes, fees. After some soul searching, I am thinking about dumping the Note 3 and Hotspot, pay the ETFs, and go basic cell phone, no data. Which VZW basic phone would you recommend?

I think you might be right.  This smartphone is taking over my life. Last night I went to bed and couldn't sleep because I left the phone in the living room.

    The equipment:
Iphone 4S 16gb VZW with personal hotspot
    Ipad 3 32gb wi-fi only
    The issue:
I turn on the personal hotspot on the phone, connect to the ipad over wi-fi or bluetooth and surf the web flawlessly. I turn on the VPN on the ipad and cannot access my work network. I check the IP address of the phone prior to the connection of the VPN and it registers a VZW IP that the phone is supposed to broadcast. I turn the VPN in and the ipad reflects the VPN IP address that I'm trying to connect to back to the phone and THAT is what the phone tries to project. My RMS vendor and our network provider have both been identified as not being the culprit. I've spent about 8 hours on the phone with an IOS Senior Advisor and we are both perplexed by this. He has been gracious enough to maintain daily contact with me and he's forwarded it up to those higher than him.
This worked back in April of this year and quit working in May or June. That means it worked on IOS5 and quit working IOS 5.
    Anyone else having these issues?

This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing Apple here.
My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

  • Macbook pro can´t find/connect to my hotspot

    Dear experts!
I recently moved to a new place and got myself a T-Mobile HomeNet Router. Everything works fine (WiFi and Ethernet) with all devices (iPhone, iPad, iMac, Linux-machine...) EXCEPT my MacBook Pro (specs below in the product section) :-(
Ever since I moved the Macbook can´t find or connect to my home hotspot. Settings on the router are as follows:
    - 802.1 b/g (it IS capable of b/g/n but I found a thread somewhere pointing out that this could be an issue)
    - channel 13 (deactived auto-channel because my neighbours had overlapping channel settings...this was the only one that worked)
    - rate auto
    - frequency 2.4 GHz
    - 30% signal strength (same reason as above)
    - QoS activated
    - SSID hidden (tried broadcasting it, made no difference)
    - WPA2-PSK
    - AES (TKIP and TKIP+AES available as well...but neither made any difference)
I can connect via ethernet, however that´s not the intended purpose of neither my notebook nor the router :-/ Someone suggested it might be an encryption issue but even without  ANY encryption the hotspot won´t show up in the list. Password contains special characters but even my old iMac doesn´t seem to have problems with it. I tried connecting manually via &quot;other network&quot; without success. Also via Controlpanel -> Network -> Assist me ...
I´m sitting right next to my router so the signal strength can´t be the cause either (besides all other devices work just fine anywhere in my appartement). Restarted all devices, each one is up to date. Last thing I tried was making the changes in Firefox cause someone suggested it might be a bug in the router software, still no success.....I´m out of ideas.
Posted this in another Mac forum already but no one could help me :-( You guys are my last hope ... does anyone know this issue and how to solve it??
any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    many thanks in advance
