Hi @glcg123 ,
I see that you are having issues scanning since updating to Windows 8.1. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
Did you uninstall and reinstall the printer software after the update?
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
If you are still having issues, uninstall and reinstall the printer software.
Uninstalling the Printer Software.
HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer Drivers.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
Have a wonderful day!
Thank You.

Did you uninstalled the software and installed the Windows 8 software after upgrading the OS?
If not, go to Programs and Features and uninstall the current HP software.

Upon using the diagnostic utility HPPSdr. exe, only the select an action "Fix Printing" shows up and not the "Fix Scanning" option. Our printer is the LaserJet 3050 connected via usb running under Windows Vista32 on a HP dv8408us laptop. The scanning driver is HP imaging 4.0.4.0. There have been numerous problems with this scanning software/driver package which have been well illustrated on the HP forums. An update is sorely needed. All that HP customers really expect when we buy a product is that we get the functionality that we paid for and that we get support for the software and hardware for a reasonable length of time, I think that 5-7 years after the final production date of the product, at least, is reasonable. In the case of the 3050, the scanning has never worked right since day 1 because the scans are too light with signatures and time stamps showing up poorly. With the pnp driver installed it it almost impossible to scan in receipts, etc. The communication software Toolbox FX is needed to use the scan button on the machine, and since there are so many problems with this package with respect to system resource usage and connectivity, we can't use it and we don't get the walk up use of the scan button that we paid for originally. As Microsoft has updated the Windows OS, HP has failed to keep pace and we lose functionality of our equipment over time. The diagnostic utilities have supposedly been updated several times and the scanning portion of the MFP still doesn't show. Surely the wide base of installation of this product could justify the expense of some engineering time for an update to the software and drivers. If HP hopes to turn itself around, a commitment needs to be made towards engineering products that really work in the environments that its customers use them, or else HP will merely be regarded as marketing company that is only concerned with selling the next thing without respect to customer retention.
VisionAiry,
Thank you for your response,
There have been problems with the software and drivers for the LaserJet MFP/AIO machines which have been well illustrated by many users on here for several years. What is shocking is the unwillingness of HP to address these issues at an engineering and design level. This is the level in your organization that these problems need to be addressed at, not at the marketing and customer service level. The software/driver package has never really worked right ever since the 3050 - 3392 series was introduced back in 2006. The scanning drivers in the pnp drivers don't work, and never have, because of frequent communication problems. Someone never bothered to check if a blue ink signature would scan. I and several others have reported on these issues. What I have discoverd, through much trial and error, is that the full software package upon installation with only basic drivers installed using the check boxes in the menu, actually installs differently than the pnp driver. Who would have thought this? So now the machine scans OK.
My PC really appreciates not having the ToolboxFX installed. ToolBoxFX Error messages and crashes have been well documented on here. This is an application that puts an unnecessary drain on system resources. The only problem is that now the use of the Scan button on the machine is taken away so I don't get the walk up use of the scan button that we paid for in the original design. Why is the scan button function tied to the defective ToolboxFX software?
As far as printing goes, after carefully deleting the original print drivers, I use the PCL 5 and PCL6 UPD drivers. They work a lot better than the original print drivers ever did. But what about scanning? The scan driver on the 3050 dates all the way back to 7 2007. Scanning is an integral part of the functioning of most offices nowadays, but it is an afterthought at HP. Why would a driver, software or diagnostic package only address half of the capabilities of a machine?
When I went on the vacation recently, I tried to use my PCL 5 and PCL 6 drivers on my relatives 2009 OfficeJet 7310 and it wouldn't work at all. I had to spend 2 hours with multiple failed attempts to install the full 7310 package on my PC. Installation problems and repeated attempts are a constant theme with HP software. The very term Universal Print Driver is misleading because it won't work on many of the HP products out there. The product listing for the UPD, I only recently discovered on here, with help, because it was so buried on the UPD information page.
The LaserJet 3050 at $300 from Staples wasn't the most expensive printer out there, but it wasn't the least either. It is actually a pretty nice piece of hardware. I have invested over $1,500 in marked up toner since I've had this machine. HP needs to do better for us. -

HP LaserJet MFP M476dw paper size mismatch when copying or scanning from ADF
We have HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dw that has an issue when copying or scanning from the ADF.
Put a single A4 sheet in the ADF and choose copy, with all settings correct & no resizing, and the output copy is moved down the page (increased top marging by a couple of inches).
My initial thoughts were a paper size issue (e.g. treating A4 as Letter or vice versa) but all settings look correct. I have even done a reset and started over and the problem remains.
If I take the original and place it on the flatbed and copy from there with all the same settings then it works fine.
There is a similar issue when scanning from the ADF. Again, scanning from the flatbed works fine.
I've tried all I can think of. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Could it be a fault in the ADF?

Dear Forum,
I write again in hope that some help is out there for my printer problems.
When I first set up the printer (HP LaserJet MFP 176n), it printed fine from a Mac Desktop and my laptop (both Macs). The printer is connected directly to my modem via ethernet. I was able to print via airprint (Mac desktop, Macbook and modem using the same wifi system).
Then when I programmed printing from my iphone and iPad, I was then no longer to command print from my Macbook and Mac Desktop. The error that I keep getting is: Printing - Print job was not accepted (this occurs in the Print Window).
On the initial print window (the one to instruct printing), I note an exclaimation mark next to the name of Printer.
Please help. Am desperate. Thanking you in advance.
Best wishes, Cecilia.Hi Ceal5,
Welcome to the HP forums!
I see you are having some issues getting your LaserJet to print after connecting a few more devices to the printer. I'm sorry to hear this, but with a bit more information I'd be happy to help
1. Which model HP LaserJet do you have? (I couldn't find anything with just 176n)
2. Which version of Mac is on your computers?
3. Have you installed the HP software for your LaserJet (if it's available)?
4. Have you tried different print jobs/different programs on the Macs?
5. Is the error the same on both computers every time?
In the meantime, I will suggest that you double check which driver you have installed by removing the printer from the Print and Scan section under System Preferences (highlight your printer and click the - symbol to remove it, and then click the + to re-add it) and then re-adding it and making sure that the printer is not using the AirPrint driver as shown in the screen shot below (I realize it's for a different printer, but it should look similar for your printer).
Hope to hear back from you soon

HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw and HP Web Services
Hi,
I have a HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer and have tried to enable the HP Web Services, but without success.
My printer is configured on a fixed ip-address, with a default gateway and of course with static DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
Every time when I try to enable the Web Services feature I get the error message "Connection error. Check your internet connection.".
My internet connection is working fine and the printer is able to communicate thru the firewall fine too. When I do some tracing I see the printer communicating to the public ip-address "23.21.172.122" but there is no response comming back. So I assume the problem is external and not related to my internal configuration. I have tested this with a fully opened firewall (allowing all communications from my LAN to the Internet) with exactly the same results. There is no answer comming back from the ip "23.21.172.122".
Also I can't find the HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer in the supported HP ePrint printerlist.
The 400-series is supported, the 500-serie is not mentioned.
But since the webinterface of my HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer is giving me the HP Web Services configuration page, I asumed this type would be supported too...
Does anyone have a clue how to get ePrint working on the HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer?
Is there anyone who got the HP Web Services working on a HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer?
Kind regards,
Rene.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi Rene,
Have you tried updating its firmware version?
The latest firmware should improve the web services connectivity and may help resolving such an issue:
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=5210913&sp...
Also be sure to follow its steps which may help resolving a connection issue:
• Improvements made for connecting to HP Web Services.
NOTE: After updating from firmware datecode 20121002 to firmware datecode 20121019, if a connection to HP's Web Services cannot be established a Security Reset should be performed. Use the following steps to perform a Security Reset.
1. At the printer's touch screen control panel press the wrench & gear icon (Setup menu) at the top of the touch screen.
2. Using the scroll arrows on the right side, scroll until Network Setup appears then press Network Setup.
3. In the Network Setup menu select Security
4. Using the scroll arrows on the right side, scroll until Reset All Security appears and then press Reset All Security. Allow the reset to complete before attempting to connect to HP's Web Services.

HP Officejet Pro X576dw MFP scan to network folder
HP Officejet Pro X576dw MFP Scan to Network Folder function is producing error messages in the Network Folder Setup. The error message reads: """A problem occurred during the test. Click "Edit" to check your settings, and then try again. For more information, visit hp.com-support Ideally, I'd like scans to plop right on my Desktop. I'd settle for any folder, however.
Here's my current pathway, which seems to be unacceptable: \\MYMAC\Public\Scans.
I've also tried: \\MYMAC\MYNAME\Public\Scans
I've also tried: \\MYMAC\MYNAME\Public
I've also tried: \\MYMAC\MYNAME\Scans
I've also tried: \\MYMAC\DESKTOP\Scans
I've also tried: \\MYMAC\MYNAME\DESKTOP
I've also tried prayer, beer, and breaking things. Now I thought I'd try this forum. If this is a windows computer, save the folder on the C: drive and use the CMD prompt and type ipconfig then take note of the IP address of the PC and make the scanner path very simple. For example, if my computer's IP address was 192.168.0.13 and I saved my folder to the C drive titled Scans, the file path would look like this:
\\192.168.0.13\Scans or even just 192.168.0.13\Scans
Then update the scanner defaults to go to that folder and do a test scan, making note of the exact error message if one appears.
It sounds like you could be having an authentication error. Let me know if you would like assistance as the date on this is kinda far back.
Always happy to help.

HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dn - Impossibly slow ethernet
Win7 - 64 bit on typical small office network setup (Comcast internet, Linksys Router, half computers on wifi, half wired).
Upgraded from terrible old Brother multi-function printer.
We print some files from remote desktop (using redirected printers.. as in, the remote desktop session has the ability to print through our computers to our local printer).
Sometimes the files are large (10-20mb).. and the Brother printer sends it right over in about 1 second.
New HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dn goes as slow as you can imagine.. I can sit a watch the printing dialog box and watch it 256kb........512kb........768kb.......... out of 15mb.
I have tried a bunch of combinations of different drivers (PCL5 etc), link speeds on the printer, RAW processor, Port types, and so on, but can't find the right combination..
I should mention that we are using the exact same ethernet cord as the old Brother printer. Also, the HP is set to a Static IP.
Please help!
Thanks,
EricI had this exact problem. I've had the printer for about a month and it was very fast at first. I really like the printer, especially the duplex ability. Over the past week or so it became excruciatingly slow. I just finished downloading the new firmware and drivers but before installing them something made me check the Ethernet cable which is plugged into my Airport Extreme 802.11n Gigabit router. It was loose and partially pulled out so I plugged it back in all the way and the printer went back to printing the way it is supposed to.
You might want to give this a try. Perhaps try another Ethernet cable or direct connection via USB if that doesn't work.

Acrobat 7 Pro Windows Scanning Issues for Non-Admins
Hello,
We have several users that are having scanning issues. WE recently removed administrator rights from our end users and now for some reason Acrobat 7 Professional doesn't show any scanners in the list when they try to create a PDF from the scanner. Windows shows the scanner in the scanners and cameras section of the control panel. Any help would be appreciated.
-JaredI was able to install it on Win 7, even the 64-bit version. But neither AcroTray or the Adobe PDF print driver for AA 7 works on Win 7. That means you have to use workarounds to get things done if you succeed in installing. it is time for you to probably buy a new copy.

Manual for HP LaserJet MFP M476
I'm trying to find the HP LaserJet MFP M476 manual of instructions (I am trying to learn how to duplex and print envelopes). Can someone offer me a link to the manual for this printer?
This question was solved.
View Solution. The M476 User Guide manual can be found at http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c03820385-4.pdf
Unfortunately, in common with the guides for many of the current generation of LaserJet printers, the manual offers only very basic instructions on loading paper trays.
It doesn't mention anything about whether or not special considerations apply to loading 'sided' paper (such as Letterhead, or Prepunched), and whether or not these are different for Simplex and Duplex print jobs.
The only reference to envelopes appears to be :
"Do not print envelopes, labels, or unsupported sizes of paper from tray 2. Print these types of
paper only from tray 1." -
I am having scanning issues. I just purchased this printer in February 2015. I am trying to figure out how I can use the document feeder to scan. When I place the documents into the document feeder and press scan and then choose the networked computer I want to scan to, the document feeder will not feed the documents onto the glass. The scanner scans (with no document on the glass) and I get a blank scan sent to the computer as a .jpg. I want the scans to come through as .pdf. So in theory this is a 2 part question.
1. How to scan using the document feeder?
2. How to save the scan as a .pdf?
This question was solved.
View Solution. Thanks for your help. I figured that out on my own, not the resolution I was hoping for. Sometimes I bring my work laptop home and didn't want to install the Full Software onto my work laptop. But if that is the only way I can resolve my issue, then I guess it will have to be done.
Thanks again! -
Gmail Scanning Issues – WorkCentre 7120 - 7125
Several posts have been discussing the recent changes in the Gmail security parameters and the issues it is causing with their multi-function devices. We are hoping this information will get you scanning once again with an alternate method while the email issue is being researched.
This focuses on the WorkCentre7120 7125 product family in relation to the scan to email feature with Gmail in which the Xerox device produces different error and fault codes relating to communication.
Recent changes in Gmail security parameters have changed the authentication requirement which is causing the Multi-Function Printer to have authentication failures. Gmail has two open Authentication methods (OAuth and OAuth2).
To isolate the cause of your errors and confirm if the issue is the Gmail server authentication, please use this test which will take you through each of the steps. If the telnet test fails as outlined, then the options are to install scanning to a network folder or to a mailbox (folder).
These instructions are intended for an advanced user.
Perform a Telnet Test to Confirm the Cause of the Issue and Review Alternate Scanning Methods
The Gmail Scanning Issue document also includes step by step (all with screen shots) on other forms of scanning the device supports (essentially alternative methods).
The issue is now in Engineering and a possible resolution is being developed but supplied in the linked document above are alternate methods of scanning for customer use.
NOTE – This does not address or outline the use of any other ”free” email providers.Mitchell the user can use Restricted Gmail SMTP server : aspmx.l.google.com :25 with out authentication and with out SSL and TLS ssl encryption but the can scan to email can only be sent to Gmail or Google Apps users .
