Lightening cable damaged. Still under warantee, yet I'm being refused a replacement!

I bought a new lightening cable in December. The sheath at the connector end has torn open. I had the same issue with the orignal. Now although it's been only 6 months since I bought the cable, I am being refused a free replacement!! This is a design flaw that Apple should own up to. How else do you explain the same damage at the same place in such short time? I've been careful to unplug only from the adaptor but it's been of no use! Who can I take up the issue with? Please help!
Regards,
Paul

Hi Ralph, I had taken this from a reseller. They have spoken to the Apple rep. (I have the case ID) who in turn has refused to replace the cable. The reseller also mentioned that this is a fairly regular issue & that they used to replace the cables up until a month ago. I've been using versions the iPhone for 4 years now & have never had any issues so this problem & the service response is very disappointing!
I'll get in touch with Apple care & see how it goes. Thanks for the help!

  • I have an iphone 5 that was originally with verizon but has been unlocked now by them and the phone is still under the apple warranty, if I go to replace for power button malfunctioning, will they give replace it with an unlocked phone as well?

I currently have an iphone 5 that was verizon locked but has been unlocked by them because of my contract, the phone is still under the apple warranty but the power button is not working, if it was the case that apple has to replace it with another phone, will they replace with an unlocked phone now?
    thanks

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.

  • Lightening cable iphone 5 shows peeling and the service provider says not covered under guarantee.I can see this is a clear case manufacturing defect. What is the remedy

I find the lightening cable that came with the iphone 5 showing peeling of rubber .
I had taken it to the local support (service point) who says it is not covered under warranty.
As an engineer I can vouch that this is a clear case of material defect.
    What is my remedy
    T.Srinivasan.
    Chennai India

I had taken the Iphone 5 with lightening cable under warranty to the service supporter here in Chennai India and after logging in the complaint the support engineer had informed me that the same claim was rejected.
This happened a couple of months ago and now I find almost the entire cable has peeled off (Insulation).
Initially I thought there perhaps was a chance for handling (carrying etc in your laptop bag) that could have caused the same. Now I am convinced that the material defect is the problem.
Is there a way to bring this to the attention of Apple by email probably with a photo for them to appreciate my problem as the service support engineer authorised is unable to appreciate the problem.
    Thanks for your reply

Iphone 5 won't charge unless I wiggle the cable around to fine a spot where it works. It's not the cable/charger as it works perfectly in other iPhone 5's. I haven't even had it a year so it's still under warranty and the phone is in very good condition and has never been abused/dropped etc. I'm taking it into apple tomorrow for an appointment. Has anyone had this problem? if so, what happens? thanks

I had the same problem and took my iPhone 5 into the Apple store.  What happened was a little embarrassing.  The genius took out a "special tool" (a paper clip) and began digging out an unimaginable amount of lint from the lightning connector port.  After that I was able to connect the cord and charge without any issues.
A few days after, I realized that my problems associated with the remote/mic not working on my ear pods might be due to the same issue.  (The volume and action buttons on the ear pods sometimes were not responsive)  I grabbed a paper clip and began digging.  Again, a large wad of lint came out of the headphone port and my ear pods have worked perfectly since.

  • HT1430 Oem lightening cable acting odd

my oem lightening charger is about 11 months old is showing wear at the point where the thin part of the cable enters the thicker part right before the hard plastic part of the lightening end. I noticed today that it is not functioning correctly - I have my phoen plugged in to my computer viua lightening cable nad phone on table. When I first plugged it in, it alternated between charging and not charging every 3-5 seconds for the first 1 minute it was plugged in. I also got the "unsupported device" warnign a couple of times.
I have seen that previously on non-oem chargeing cables. I assume that the wires are gettign loose or damaged.
What is the expected life expectancy for a lightening cable? IS replacement covered under the apple icare plan? or general product warranty?

The cable is covered under the same warranty as the phone.

  • TS2634 iPad 4th Gen not charging with included apple 12w adapter & lightening cable.

So I've only has this iPad since Xmas.
It worked perfectly until a week ago when I started having charging issues with the stock accessories.
I plugged it in to the wall using the cable and adapter it came with and nothing. Not even the usual "Not Charging" message you may sometimes see when using an old computer's usb port.  However, if I turn it completely off while the cable is connected to the wall, It will charge just extremely slow (takes about 12-16 hours for a full charge).
Its a 4th Gen iPad 16GB (Wifi only) with the latest software update 6.0.1
Here are the steps I have taken thus far:
I've tried isolating the problem using the accessories that came with the iPad (Cable and Adapter) and these steps below...
    1. Tried different adapters and lightening cables (all apple products btw). Some will give me the "Not Charging" message, but still the same issue. Every now and then the lighting bolt charge indicator will show up, but it either switches back to not charging or will still charge extremely slow (and yes I've even tried disabling all the radio toggles such as wifi, location services, bluetooth, push, etc...)
    2. Utilized the same steps listed with the accessories as above using different wall outlets
    3. Hard Reset (Sleep+Home) then plugging in cable before, during, & after boot logo.
Haven't put it into DFU Mode yet & would like to avoid this for obvious reasons if possible.  Any other options I'm not thinking off?

Make an appointment at your local apple store and take it in. there may be something wrong with the charging port or the software that tell it what to do. ANd that's something for the pros to deal with.
If you didn't buy it at an Apple store you can take it back where you bought it (depending on their return policy but most places have 90 days)
The reason I suggest that....I bought mine at Best Buy and it had charging issues. I took it into best buy (the closest apple store is over an hour away) and they simply exchanged mine for a new one. If you take it into apple, the policy is to exchange your malfunctioning one for a refurbished replacement.
So I got a new device instead of a refurb. Not that refurbs are bad, sometimes they are better than the new ones, but I liked being able to walk out with a brand new device instead of a used one.
Now if you bought it from Apple, then that's where you need to take it back to.

  • Can I change my iPhone 5 for a new one if it's still under warranty??

Hey guys, I am with AT&T since november 2012...I am on a 2 year contract and got an iPhone 5...I am really enjoying the phone and iOS in general.
I have a question if I can exchange my current iPhone 5 for a brand new iPhone 5...I am still under 1 year factory warranty.
I was at my friends house one day...and by accident my phone fell from a 5th floor...it got a few dings...around the metal plated area...and I got really lucky because the phone lended on a grass...but some mud got stuck in a speaker area and the headphone jack area...

not the warranty. apple care+ is 99$ purchased within the first 30 days of the phones purchase date.
it covers up to 2 instances of physical/liquid damage for $50. doesn't cover theft/lost
the warranty covers hardware damage such as a perfectly good apple phone home button not responding. that's on apple, so they replace it. but if you drop it and cause the damage. that's either your problem, oooooor hopefully you have insurance.

I purchased a Genuine Apple iPhone Lightening Cable from the Phone Shop I got my iPhone from after the one I got with my phone broke, it has broke due to no fault of my own and it's the 4th one I have had, will Apple replace the cable for free or not?

The original cable has the iPhone's 12 month warranty and any items purchase as accessories also have a 12 month warranty
Assuming there is no user damage or misuse

  • How much is a replacement phone if phone is still under warranty?

how much is a replacement phone if phone is still under warranty?

It is free if there is a manufacturing defect and you are still within your 1 year limited warranty.
If it is accidental or liquid damage then you may be looking at a fee to get a replacement.
If you have AppleCare+ then you can use one of your 2 incidents and get a service of $49 plus applicable tax.
If you do not have AppleCare+ you would get a replacement as an Out of Warranty Service due to accidental damage. Now based on your country/region you could either get a replacement through postage or at an Apple Retail Store. Follow the link below for a pricing:
    http://www.apple.com/support/service/
    - select iphone
    - select your country
    - select warranty and service pricing
Choose the last option and it will give you a price based on your country and iPhone. Remember the cost shown includes a postage fee so look below the prices and how much the postage fee is as this would not be included in the cost if the replacement was done at a store.
    Hope this helps

  • Lightening Cable Burn - Could have burned the house down

I made the sign of the cross when I saw this. Whew. What if the cable had been in the bed or on papers........Apple Lightening Cable [not a $2 knock off from Hong Kong] developed a short and burned into the hardwood floor. It was just plugged in with no device attached when it started to burn. Some HiZ condition in the strain relief at the end. Here are some X-Rays of the interior - The mini PCB doesn't seem to have damage, short developed inside where the wires bunch together. Apple can have the cable for FA with their latest Chinese Mfr. Not sure it's worth a trip to the store to get another $20 cable. Or if they would even honor it........UNPLUG THESE THINGS when not in use, or at least tie wrap in a secure location.

I am sure Apple would like to see the cable ,if less than 12 months old it has warranty
take it to an Apple genius Bar

  • Is the iPhone 5 lightning cable also covered under AppleCare?

My iPhone lightning cable is starting to fall apart.
I never take it anywhere. It just stays plugged in at home and all I use it for is connecting to my iPhone 5 for charging, etc. So it's definitely never been abused.
It came with my iPhone 5 which I got October of 2012, so the iPhone 5 itself is still under the 2 year AppleCare warranty. Do they cover the lightning cable too? I can't believe it has started to wear out like this just from daily plugging in.

Of course. AppleCare covers your iPhone and the accessories that came with it, including the Lightning cable. Just make an appointment at an Apple Store or reseller and take the iPhone and the cable to get it replaced for free.
Here in Japan it was even easier than that. I just had to call AppleCare and they will deliver one by express service, and pick up the old one. No need to make an appointment, or to actually go anywhere.

  • My  ipod classic just stopped working.  Will not turn on, will not do anything.  Black screen.  It is still under warranty.  What do I do to get it fixed or replaced?

My ipod classis just stopped working.  It is still under warranty and I need to know where the warranty information is so I can get it fixed or replaced?

If you have tried all of the suggestions mentioned under the appropriate section in this Apple support document, you may need to have your iPod serviced or replaced either by Apple or a third party service.
    iPod won't turn on
If the iPod is still under Apple's 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects, Apple may swap it out for you at no cost if they don't conclude the issue to be the result of abuse or accidental damage.  If you have an Apple Store nearby schedule an appointment with them and show them what you are experiencing.
