Making a highlight movie!

I have made several highlight video's and now would like to make an End of the Year video of all the weekly video's. How can build a large event folder of the clips i've already edited?

iM08 supports tiff or png files with socalled 'alpha cannels' = transparency.. use your preferred paint app and create an arrow on a transparent background.. import that into your iM08 project ... for highlightening a part of the video, create a 'mask', with fully transparent 'light' and a 30% grey to lower unwanted parts ..
iMHD6 supports plug-ins, geethree.com has an excellent 'hilite/obscure' and 'whiteboard' plug-ins, to teach iM such effects..

  • In making a "highlights" movie, using clips from different imported iMovie events, can I delete the larger iMovie event file from the Events browser and still work w the smaller clips in the Projects browser w/o having the larger files still loaded?

    I have sucessfully imported 150 Sony digital 8mm movies (each one hour in length) into iMovie as 150 iMovie events. I have since successfully converted them from their original 13 Gb (.dv) file to an exported smaller 1.3 Gb (.4mv "large file") movie that I am happy with, using the iMovie projects browser. So now I have 150 " .4mv" movies on my internal HD as well as about half of my original raw data " .dv " movies on my internal hard drive.
    Due to their large size (over 2 Tb), I do not have all the larger raw data (.dv) files on my 2Tb internal drive, just about half of them. What I want to do now is to create a new project in the Projects browser for each of my kids, and reload, starting with Tape #1, each of these larger files and do a highlights movie for each of my kids, wherein I pick out smaller clips from each 1 hour .dv iMovie event and paste them into the appropriate kid's Highlights project in the Projects browser.
    Here's my question: If I load the first 5 large files back onto my internal HD, and paste in various shorter clips into each of my kids' Highlights project, and then if I delete those first 5 large files (they are backed up on 2 other 3Tb external HDs), can I keep doing this (reloading the next 5 large .dv files to work with), and ultimately take each of my kid's Highlights project and export as a .4mv movie EVEN THOUGH the earlier large .dv files are no longer on my internal HD, OR does my iMac need to have all these larger files loaded on my internal HD for me to eventually export each of my kid's Highlights project to a .4mv movie?
    I have a 2011 era 27" iMac desktop w 2Tb HD internal and 250 Gb flash drive, and Lion OSX and iMovie 11.

    Thanks. I tested it out and you were correct. I loaded 2 .dv movies from my external HD back onto my internal HD, and got them re-imported into iMovie, took a few short clips from each of the 2 iMovie events and pasted them into a new project in the Project Browser. Then I deleted these 2  "source clips" from my internal HD, closed iMovie and then re-opened it and found that iMovie would NOT export the smaller clips for a "highlights" .4mv movie without the "source clips" being available.
    I read your link on Quicktime. It talks about mostly trimming, which is what I did with each iMovie event before I took each one as a project to export as a smaller .4mv file. But if I use Quicktime (do I need QT Pro or basic), what advantage is it to me to use QT over iMovie (I must admit I am a novice at iMovie and have never used QT or QT Pro as a tool)? Will it then convert any edits I make to a .m4v movie or do I need iMovie to do that?
    Does QT allow trimming multiple segments out of a movie during one edit session, or can you only do 1 at a time? By that I mean that, for example, when I use Sonys Picture Motion Browser for my .mts movies, you can only set one Start and one End point for each edit/trim you do: it does not allow you to set multiple Start Stop points like iMovie allows in its Event or Project browser. You can only do one "trim" at a time, save it and then reopen to do another trim. not very useful.

  • Best way to make a highlight movie?

    I am making a highlight movie of our bb season. I currently have 9 games that are about 10 gb each. I would like to take short clips from the games and put into a new movie of highlights. I am wondering the best way to do that. I did two games and I see that when I copy a six seconds from a 3 min clip into the highlight movie it copies all 3 min into the new movie. This will get incredibly big as I would like to take about 15-20 very short clips from each game. Is there a way to just copy part of a clip into another movie without getting the whole clip.
    If not, what is the best way to create an imovie out of short clips from other imovies.
    Thanks.

    you stumbled into the 'non distructure' feature of iM .. when you copy/paste 3secs into another project, the whole import, from which these 3secs are originated, get copied..
    use this workflow:
    highlight clip in timeline
    export/Quicktime/Full Quality.. check box 'selected clips only' ...
    the new file is the 3secs only.. drag that/import that into your 'master edit' ..
    what I would do...
    import 1 game..
    do a very rough cut .. no 'frame precision' just a selection of scenes, plus 10-20secs 'beef' around it..
    again, Export/QT/Full Quality ..
    delete project, create a new one..
    repeat for game 2-9
    import these roughcuts into your 'master edit', finish&polish the finale scenes there ...

    Photoshop/Premiere Elements 13...are either capable of making time lapse movies from still images? I heard this feature was removed from Premiere 13, after I purchased it  =(

    jorgeavanza
    It am not understanding clearly what program is not closing
    Photoshop Elements
    or
    Premiere Elements
    There is the AdobePremiereElements.exe for Premiere Elements (video editing) and the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe for Photoshop Elements (photo editing).
    Right now you keep mentioning Premiere Elements, but I am seeing your description more like Photoshop Elements.
    Please clarify so that we can focus on the correct program and try to resolve its problems.
    Thank you.

  • Question about making a "highlight tape" in FCE & and trying to save HDspac

    All, I am transfering all of my old home videos to DVD. As I am doing this I was going to make a "highlight" tape of each one of my kids. I am half way through capturing all the video but I am running out of space on my (2) Hard drives. I noticed If I made a DVD of a few clips and then deleted the captured & rendered files, as well as the "DV" file (to make more room) that my clips in the seperate SEQUENCE do not work. What is the best way I could do this, since I have to go through all the film before I can export my "highlight" sequence? Thanks.
    mc

    Personally, I'd buy another hard drive or two. 320GB Lacie d2 Extreme HDs have been going for ~$145 on newegg.com for a few months now. I think you will find editing down your highlights will be much easier if you only have to work in a single FCE project from your original captured clips.
    If/when you export a self-contained QT DV movie you get the same quality as the input files (captured clips) - however - if your intent is continued editing with the exported movie, keep in mind that 1) when you export you lose the benefit of the FCE project file and you will have to treat the exported movie as an imported clip in a new FCE project, 2) the movie is flattened in the sense that any effects, filters or adjustments you applied in the FCE project will be permanently embedded in the resulting movie, 3) you expose your video multiple times to the risks attendant with exporting - for example, dropped frames and other possible gremlins and 4) the exported file will itself take up ~13GB per hour of movie.

  • Making Full HD Movies from ACVHD

    Ok... just got my iMac so I can do something with the HD movies still in my Sony SR7. I've been reading heaps of threads to learn as much as possible (thanks AppMan and Karsten whose threads are always helpful)... but a couple of questions;
    After recording in Full HD and watching the brilliantly sharp and colour full movies directly from the camera, I wish do some editing or at least get them of camera (which is HDD) so I don't lose them. So I have downloaded them into iMovie08 successfully, then;
    1. I export to quicktime movie then have read advice to either set the compression type as AIC, H.264 or MPEG-4. I understand H.264 is what the movie will end up as when burning in HD (with Toast) and that AIC is what the movie was imported as (in effect letting toast do the encoding)... but why would you use MPEG-4?...and what is the difference between AIC and MPEG-4
    2. If I follow the above exporting procedure, making sure I choose 1920x1080HD, the .mov file saved to my desktop when watched (pre burning) is all fuzzy (or for want of a better describing word, lots of horizontal lines)... although in 1280x720HD there is no lines but much less sharp. So is this because my apple monitor isn't HD and will, upon burning onto a DVD or Blueray disc and playing through a HD TV, the movie be back to full HD? I don't (yet) have a HD TV to test this on, but want to make movies in HD so later I won't have to.
    Thanks:)

    Have you checked for a firmware update for the camera?
    You might have better luck in the iMovie community.

  • Making One Object Move, both players see it fine, but very slow.

    Hi there,
    I am simply trying to send one object (movieClip) move from the left side of the stage to the right side. I am able to accomplish this by using the following very simple code:
    /////////////////////////////CODE///////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    //PRESSING RIGHT, MAKING BOX MOVE
    public function pressingRightMakingBoxMove(e:KeyboardEvent) {
              box.x += 3;
              moveBox.sender = netGroup.convertPeerIDToGroupAddress(netConnection.nearID);
              moveBox.user = "" + netConnection.nearID;
              moveBox.xx = box.x;
         netGroup.post(moveBox);
    public function netStatus(event:NetStatusEvent) {
         switch(event.info.code){
              case "NetConnection.Connect.Success":
                   setupGroup();
              break;
              case "NetGroup.Posting.Notify":
                   receiveBoxMovement(event.info.message);
              break;
    public function receiveBoxMovement(moveBox:Object):void{
          box.x = moveBox.xx;
    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ENDCODE//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    It works fine, the box moves on both screens, but you can obviously tell there is latency. Should I be sending movements through an Object? Perhaps there is a quicker way, sending it through strings or text? Definitely not acceptable over UDP.
    Thank you

    NetGroup.post() may have significant latency, and postings may arrive in a different order than they are made.  it is not intended for time-critical communication.
    to get the lowest latency (and most efficient transmission) for N:N communication (including 1:1), you should use the 1:1 P2P APIs (NetStream.DIRECT_CONNECTIONS and explicit peerIDs) and be sure NetStream.bufferTime=0.  it sounds like this is the most appropriate for your application.
    for 1:N or M:N (M << N, N > 4) communication, you should use P2P multicast.  but P2P multicast may also have significant delays, especially while starting up.

  • Making a shape move in Flash 8..Help

    I am trying to make a ball move, it's all perfect apart from this:
    Statement must appear within on/onClipEvent handler = ( isJumping) = false;)
    Then I put in "on", then it says:
    Unexpected 'on' encountered.
    That's a bit of fail, any help?
    I will post the full code if needed.

    if you have any valid code attached to a frame you can leave it but, my guess is you don't have any valid code.  but if you don't want to remove code that might be serviceable, you can surround the code with a comment demarkation:

    Hi Teknik Kim
    This was a funny question. It is possible to do this with the property nodes. You can get the position of the progress bar digital display by creating a property node on the progress bar and selecting the property digital display. This property is then an array of references to all the possible digital displays in your case there is only 1 meaning that you can just take out the first element of the array. If you create a new property node on this reference you can take the property "Position -> Top" and write to this depending on your value.
    I have created an example for you where I do the following:
    1) Take position of Progress bar
    2) Shift the position of the label so I only have the position of the fill color part.
    Then the digital display is aligned with the top border of the fill. I would say it should be half way up so the middle of the digital display should be at the top so I:
    3) Shift the position of the height of the digital display dividede by 2
    Then the middle of the display is aligned with the top. But Actually I want it to be in the bottom when the value is 0 so I:
    4) Add the value for the Height of the Fill Color Part
    Then it is aligned nicely in the bottom and we are only needing to make it move with the value. To make this dynamic I:
    5) Move the digital display with the (current value / maximum value) * height of fill color part
    This seems to work nice for me, try to take a look at the attached example and see if it works for you (LabVIEW 2012)

  • How can I get my audio to move down when I move my video up without making two separate moves?

    Hey
    I have moved to Premiere as a lot of the companies I edit for are now using it. Overall impression is GREAT especially CC vs 5.5 which I started in.
    In relation to my question, when I move my video track up a layer my audio stays on track 1 or whereever it started. This is really frustrating as it overwrites the exsiting audio when I move it.
    Is there are workaround other than moving the audio down first then moving the clip along, I find this slows me down a lot.
    Is this coming out in a new update, or is there a quick solution i missing?
    I am about to head into 8 days of fast turnaround multi cam editing so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Piers Faircloth Harding

    I understand that side of it, its a feature which I was used to in FCP and now I dont have it so was wondering if CC has this feature.
    In realation to audio not caring what layer it is on you are correct but if I want to shift it with my video to a different layer it is a labourous task when editing under pressure in time sensitive situations eg onsite VNRs for events where you have to have ambient bg or when you want ambient from b roll over talking to have to shift it down separately before moving your clip to avoid overwriting exsisting.

  • Making My QT movies look as good as my FCP canvases

    Using footage from my Sony HDV camcorder (which records in 1440x1080 (1080/60i)), my sequences in FCP look gorgeous and truly High-Def.
    But when I try to convert to a QT mov, they look terrible -- pixelated, staggered, ...
    What is the best method to create a movie file with maximum resolution and quality? What are the specific settings that I need to look out for?
    File size is not a constraint, as I will simply be running the QT movie on another Mac hooked up to a 46" 1080p tv. I just want a final product that is big and beautiful!
    Thanks, here are the relevant specs.
    Sony HDR-HC1 HDV camcorder
    OSX 10.5.1
    FCP 5.1.4
    QT Player 7.3

    select your sequence either in the browser or timeline and go to File>Export>Quicktime check self contained file. selecting just Quicktime will make your compression setting exactly the same as your sequence settings in FCP. If you use Quicktime Conversion to export then you will be adding more compression to your quicktime file.

  • Making a Quicktime movie a link

    I have exported a Keynote presentation as a Quicktime movie to my webpage I have created in iWeb. Does anyone know how to make the Quicktime movie a link to another page?
    Thanks.

    Thank you for all of the replies.
    Kyn, I see on the link you provided that you were able to incorporate a link in your movie. That's what I would like to do but I do not find instructions on how to do it.
    Just to clarify, I created a Keynote presentation and exported it as a Quicktime movie to place in my iWeb made website. It is just a photo slideshow but I would like to also make it a hyperlink so that at any time the slideshow is clicked on, it goes to another page or website, etc. My first problem is that when the slideshow is clicked on it stops the slideshow and restarts when I click again instead of going to another page. How can I eliminate the click activated stop/start of the slideshow and instead create a click activated hyperlink.
    Thanks again for everybody's help and great information.

  • Help making a ball move

    Hi all.
    I'm trying to make a ball (in a panel) move left and right when I press down left and right keys, but I cant seem to get it working. Can someone please advise me where I might be getting it wrong.

    JPanel are not focusable by default and key events are sent to the focused component. Use JPanel#setFocusable(true) to make it focusable or use keybinding on the JFrame (search on "java keybinding tutorial").
