MicroStar K8N Neo4 Platinum 54G - nForce4 Ultra Avilability in CZ

Hi all,
does anybody know when M/B MicroStar K8N Neo4 Platinum 54G - nForce4 Ultra will be avilable in Czech Republic (Europe)??? I'm waiting two months for it...

Not really (maybe AC97 Controller = Auto was the closest). But, I tried now to switch the LAN cable to the upper RJ-45 slot instead of the lower one, and it seem to have stopped the power on peculiarity. Now only if I could pinpoint what's the broken component that causes the boot screen freeze and what causes the 35-45s idle time at the Win-logo loading screen.
The freaky boot screen freeze happens something like this:
1. the mother board model number is shown
2. the CPU information is shown (or sometimes this is skipped and not shown)
3. here it may or may not freeze and usually it produces this terrible out of sync mess (and monitor has to be switched off to get it back to normal)
I don't see any connection to overheating, I never touched any overclocking settings (or any other settings for that matter, it's a 2-day old installation).

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum rig build opinion

I am putting together a multi-media rig and want your opinions.
It willl be used for audio, video and photos for a hobbyist friend:
    MSI "K8N Neo4 Platinum" NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2.2 GHz, 512KB L2  Socket 939
    eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6600 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, PCI-Express, Model "256-P2-N369"
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD
Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD2500JD
Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200, Model  TWINX1024-3200C2P

I'd go with Crucial Ballistix instead of Corsair.  I've read too many reports of Corsair memory being DOA lately and I like Micron chips anyhow.   I verified my memory with MemTest86+.
Make sure whatever video card you get has a relatively quiet fan.  The 6600 and 6600GT series cards with 60mm fans are much quieter than the ones with the dinky 40mm fans.  I'm very happy with my Leadtek.  I believe MSI's cards have 60mm fans?  The 6600GT is MUCH better than the 6600 for games.
Try to get a Winchester-core (90nm) Athlon 64.  Lower power consumption.  More expensive though.  Arctic Cooling's Freezer64 works very welll for me but I suspect their cheaper Athlon 64 CPU cooler would be good enough and do a better job of cooling motherboard components.  Depends on how militant you want to be about quiet.  Of course, you'll definitely want a tube of Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound.
Seagate's 7200.8 300GB and 400GB drives rock.  Tough to find a good price on the SATA version though.  I'm using mine for HDTV PVR storage so I wanted the BIG drive.  Ditto everything said about the Raptor.

  • Nforce 4 ultra k8n neo4 platinum need info

1° do you recommend this mobo?
2° i see lots of bios upgrade in the support page of this mobo, if there something i didn't like is to flash a bios several times, so i must upgrade bios at once with the latest or i must do it one by one?
    3° am2 or 939?
4° there some bios or something upgrade to support raid 5?
5° y want to build this:

    bye

ivangelion, I have this board and it's a good choice.
    So to answer your questions:
    1. yes
    2. No you can upgrade to newest right away [ver1.D]
    3. 939. Most people/ forums are saying to wait awhile on the AM2
    4. The Silicone Image RAID supports RAID 5 as it is now on this board.
    5. That's a good starting point and you can amp it up from there as $$$ permits.
Good Luck and let us know if you need help along the way.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI Sound Problem

I've recently build a system using the new K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI nForce4 board, which has the Creative SoundBlaster Live! 24bit onboard. The problem being the volume of the sound output (analogue) is extremely low. All volume controls in Windows are all set to full volume, but the sound output is still very very low. I consider myself pretty good with computers but with this problem I'm stumpted. Anybody else had this problem? Any insite would be very appricated.
    Various info:
With my old SoundBlaster Live! Value the sound is fine
    System Specs:
    K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI
    Athlon64 3500 Winchester
    1gb PC3200 (Crucial ValueSelect RAM)
    nVidia GeForce 6800 256mb
    WindowsXP Professional w/ SP2
    Any help will be appreciated

Ive been wanting to set up a new system based of this same motherboard, but all the power supplies Ive found so far have either been brands Im not familiar enough with or I havent been able to find a definitive answer on if the power supply supports that -5V pin(usually both, unfortunately). Can anyone point me in the right direction for a PSU under US$100? Any suggestions of power supplies anyone has had success with will also be greatly appreciated.
Ive spent about the past three days searching and have finally reached my wits end.
    Second edit:
I double checked the diamond forum link (it gave a link not found page the first time), I did get to see what was posted there, but since most online retailers and manufacturer websites dont give the best view of the main connector, thats not alot of help. The only websites Im comfortable ordering from also do not evne carry the suggested power supplies, or any other unit by those manufacturer.
    FINAL Edit (I promise...kinda):
I double checked on NewEgg (and then double checked FrozenCPU.com), and I found one from OCZ that doesnt totally blow my goal of USD100 or less out of the water. Lists a -5v supply, and is 24 pin for the motherboard:
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-155&depa=1
Same thing for 129.99 on FCPU, which is where Ill be ordering the power supply from.
I dont have any real need for the onboard adjustment dials of the more expensive series, and I really like the modular PSU design, not to mention the blue color scheme will work well in my blue-illuminated case.
Now, are there any other hurdles I need to be aware of?

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 GB SDRAM DDR 400 Problem

I have the K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 1GB sticks of Corsair ValueSelect DDR 400 (PC 3200), model VS1GB400C3, filling all four slots. The BIOS recognizes about 2.88 GB of total memory. The MSI manual states:
    Quote
Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density
will only be detected up to 3+GB (not full 4GB) when each
DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean that I'm "wasting" my SDRAM, that not all of it is used, or does it mean that all of it will be used and the BIOS just reports a smaller number?

    Hi.
You seems not familiar with X86....
As you should know, Windows XP and most OS are 32 bits. That mean that every memory pointer is 32 bits, thus allowing to address 4Gb of memory.
    BUT
In most OS, there is a difference between the kernel and the user. So, in most OS, the memory is divided in two 2Gb block (no matter how many Gb of Ram you really have!). The first one is for the OS, the 2nd for the user program.
So, If you have for example 3Gb of ram, in the best case, you have 1gb for system and 2Gb for user program.
To allow more Ram to fonction, PAE (Physical Address Extension) was made. Instead of 32, you got 36 bits for you pointers.
But as X86-32 CPUs can't handle more than 32 bits, a reserved area was made within 4Gb to allow Memory to be copied from the area the program want to read.
    Exemple:
You got a server with 8Gb of ram. In windows, you only see 3.5+512Mb PAE.
If a program need to address memory in the 7-7.5 Range for example, the chipset copy the data from the 7-7.5 range to the 3.5-4 range in order to allow the CPU to get access: that's VERY slow.
So, in short: You can't have and don't need 4Gb of ram on 32bits OS.
(And there's even more place occupied by every card (AGP, PCI, PCI-e)....)
That's why XP64 is so interresting for programmers who needs lots of ram (Database....). When used with a chipset who know how to deal with lots of ram (I don't know if NForce4 can do it but I doubt it), you can load in memory a 4Gb Database.
But In all case, the bios should say 3.5Gb, not 2 and so on. You must have a problem with one of your stick. My guess is that they are all double sided and that you should slow down the memory to 333MHz.
(Or better: Send back 2x1Gb stick and get 2x512 SINGLE SIDED stick, unless you REALLY NEED 1.5Gb for your system !)

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum Ultra nForce4 no post.

Took the cpu off and cleaned it, upgraded the video card started the computer and no post. Led's 1,3,4, green 2 red. Took cpu out and checked it no bent pins, checked all connections. Sometimes when it boots it will have 4 green led's but no video. Tried another vid card same thing. Tried booting and holding the insert, cont+home, F1, delete keys. Get power to the fans and hear the HDD sometimes.

No posts to your post either  LOL
Anyway - could be fans causing it - I had my Neo not booting until I disconnected a case fan from the mobo fan header output.
Try with just leaving the cpu fan (could also be this one of course) .

  • Memory Controller not available - K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra

    Hi Experts!
I have typical problem in my PC.  I need reply only from experts.  Newbies please excuse.
My system displays the following info in POST.
VENDOR / DEVICE     CLASS      DESCRIPTION         IRQ
    ===================================
    10DE        005E        0580       Memory Controller     NA
If anyone can correctly PIN POINTEDLY identify why this is displayed, it will be much helpful
As such I face no difficulty with my system.  But this message very much annoys me.
    Thanks.
    My PSU Details:
400W.  +12V 20Ampere.  (This is the maximum I could afford in our indian PC environment.)
    AMD 3000+ Winchester 90nm. CPU.
K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra Mother Board.
    512 MB Hynix PC3200 Memory.  (2*256)
    80GB Western Digital.
    Ordinary PCI VGA 2mb card.
    Samsung CDROM.

There is no driver for memory controller with A64 (nforce3/4) as stated earlier .
You see this in the memctrl.inf for UDP 5.10 , driver pack for nforce 3 and backwards down to nforce 1 .
Memctrl is only added to the 5.10 package for backward support to nf2 and lower as this is a unified driver package and
the memory controller is at chipset level on the motherboard that resides in the external northbridge on nf2 chipsets and lower .
What you see is just a vendor/machine id description and is just as it should be .

  • New K8N Neo4 Platinum build. Help, Nforce4 driver question?

I am building a new K8N Neo4 Platinum system (see my sig).  I wanted to get the latest Nforce4 drivers, before installing XP.  I noticed on the Nvidia website a 5.10 Unified Driver download and a 6.66 AMD download.  Which should I use?  It looks like the versions in the 5.10 Unified Driver are actually older than what is in the Nforce4 drivers, from the MSI site.  If I use the 6.66 AMD drivers, should I make a SATA Raid Driver floppy, from them, to use during the XP install?  Any advice is appreciated.

just do it from a floppy, LiveUpdate is crap
and yes you HAVE to F6  these drivers on Windows install  if you plan on using SATA or you cannot boot from SATA
unfied drivers are NOT FOR NFORCE 4.  You MUST use the NF4-specific 6.66 (or earlier)
Unified Drivers are specific only to nForce 1/2/3.  AMD and Intel each have specific and unique driver sets for nForce4.
download 6.66, extract and explore the folder
go to IDE->Win2K->SATARAID and copy everything in this folder to a floppy
make two floppies just to be safe
you cannot use CD, you MUST use floppy because Windows will look in a: only
as soon as Windows install starts you will see a screen that says "Press F6 to install third party SCSI or RAID driver"... hit F6 and insert floppy and after a few minutes, you will get a screen that says"
"Press S to install other drivers..."
    press S
next screen comes up, first select and install "nVidida Raid class driver (required)" -->hit enter
back to "Press S to install other drivers..." screen
    press S again
screen wil come up again, this time choose and install ""nVidia nforce storage controller(required)"
one more time back to "press S to instal other drivers...", this time just hit ENTER
    now you're good to go

  • BSOD's on my x64 K8N Neo4 Platinum based PC, Any ideas what's wrong? Help!

Over the past few month I've been getting BSOD's. There is no real pattern to their occurence and it's not something which is constantly happening (It happened around 5 times in the past 2 months), but I've really grown to hate them. You see, after getting one what has happened in the past is that when I go to restart my pc after getting a BSOD, I find I need to re-install my whole OS! What happens is that after booting (which oddly enough doesn't work well after a BSOD, It freezes on the boot screen and I need to restart several times), a black screen appears telling me that certain files in the C:Windows\ direcotory are corrupt or missing.
So the real problem is that the BSOD's cause me to re-install my whole OS. One will happen, then it will be ok, I turn the system on, log into windows, then it might happen again, after which I'll need to re-install. The files that go missing are always different too, and when I run scan-disk (after plugging in my main drive into another computer) it finds corrupt files and deletes them.
At first I thought it was Azureus (p2p client) which was causing the problems because it seemed to happen when I was runing that. I stopped using it, and the BSOD's still occured...sometimes randomly when browsing...etc. I figured that since files got deleted and corrpupted, it must be a problem withthe Hard Drive....So I bought a new one, and I've still had the BSOD error (although files haven't been deleted yet).
So yeah, I really need to solve this problem as it is taking away from my productivity and causing me to re-install far too often. I will post the BSOD info as well as my system info below (and a screen shot):
    Quote
    MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
    *** STOP: 0x0000009c (0x0000000000000004,0xFFFFF80000113BC0, 0x00000000B2000000, 0x0000000000070F0F)
I looked that up on the net, and it seems the first part seems to indicate, or at least COULD indicate overheating. I checked CPU and System temps and they seem acceptable.
I am running Windows XP x64 Edition with the following hardware (please note that all of the hardware drivers I'm using are written for x64, MSI is so good:)). I have had this PC before it started having these problems, it could be related to using x64 I guess, but the error doesn't show that does it?

My OS and drivers are fully updated. As for my BIOS I've been running the version I'm using now forquite some time and I believe it is version 1.5. Also in another bad turn of events, my northbridge fan seems to be on its way out of this world (this just happned so I don't think its related to the BSOD). I haven't been able to find a replacement, and since its not spinning very fast, and sometimes stops...It's causing the heatsink to get quite hot. I need to get a new one, and I can't find them anywhere...I wonder if thats covered under warranty... I looked into getting a different heatsink, but my Graphics card is so colse to this heatsink, that theres no room for a bigger one at all.
Do you think this problem is motherboard related, I cannot understand what the technical info the BSOD gives me means, can anybody understand it? I don't think its my HD's, or Ram, or CPU...could it be a motherboard problem? And if so, its under 1 year old, can I get an RMA?
Thanks for the help in advance.

At one time I had a weak 450w psu that had only 18a on the 12v rail.  When I overclocked my cpu and gpu, I was getting bsod's every once in a while and couldnt figure it out until I read a similar post like yours on this forum.  I decided to upgrade my psu and havent had that problem since.
Power supplies can be deceiving.  I now have a 480w psu but its has 30a on the 12v rail.  So what we need to know is the ratings of your psu (see my sig) just to see if your psu is the culprit.  Just my 2 cents.

While checking up on the MB on the MSI site, I noticed a version of the bios (1.2) that says 'support for 300gb maxtor drives'
That's the same HD one I have coming with my order >.<
If the MB I get hasn't got that version of the bios already installed will I have trouble installing the drive?!
I downloaded the bios and it says in the readme not to install it from a floppy disk, so I guess you need a system up and running to make that update in the 1st place. No Idea how to go about this, if the need arises.

    Hi drjugears,
    Welcome to the forum.
Many people are runnimg ok anyway as dope  says.
But it's not an issue you can update the bios via floppy b4 connecting the maxtor.
See Flashing the BIOS for Users using NON FAT file system This is a guide written by msi. Strictly speaking if you folow the instructions you aren't flashing from a floppy the actual update is done on a virtual drive in memory.
if you need a floppy boot disc see Why no floppy for bios flash?
    luck with build
Thanks very much for the welcome and info.
Unfortunately I'll have to wait a while to see...I installed everything....but need some adapter for the 6pin connecter on the ATI card. The power supply came with some 8 pin one. So I need a 4 to 6 pin adapter. Doubt If I'll find one local, so will probably have to wait until monday now to try it out.

  • IDE cables bundled with K8N Neo4 Platinum--80 wire or 40 wire?

Is the rounded IDE cable that comes with the K8N Neo4 Platinum (non-SLI) mobo an 80 wire or 40 wire cable?  How can one tell?
I think I may be having some UDMA issues with my second hard drive (120GB Barracuda 7200.7 IDE).  I installed XP on my SATA drive with no other drives connected and then added this IDE drive.
The rest of my setup is in my sig.
    Thanks!
    Bruce

OK.  I checked my device manager for the info on my IDE drive.  I looked at the properties of NVIDIA nForce4 Parallel ATA Controller.
    Primary Channel:
HD Model # is ST3120026A.  The drive set up as Ultra DMA 5 - Ultra 100.  Checked boxes are "Let BIOS select transfer mode, Enable read caching, and Enable write caching.  I did a speed test from Windows and it shows Theoretical limit of 100, Burst speed of 86.3 and Sustained speed of 58.1.
    Secondary Channel:
DVD: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A.  Transfer mode is Ultra DMA2 - Ultra 33.  This is using a flat ribbon cable from an older computer.  The only box checked is "Let BIOS select transfer mode".
Do these both look OK or do I need to change something?
Then I looked at the properties of NVIDIA nForce4 ADMA Controller and found:
My SATA drive (my boot drive) is HD model # ST3160812AS.  Transfer mode is PIO Mode.  Boxes checked are "Enable read caching, Enable write caching, and Enable command queuing.  There is a yellow triangle that says "Transfer mode downgraded".  I can't do a speed test.
What do I need to do to operate in Serial ATA Generation 2 - 3G?  This is how this drive is supposed to operate.
    Thanks!

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum - fan replacement

I have a 2 month old K8N Ne04 Platinum edition (not SLI) motherboard.  At first the system was dead quiet, however the NForce4 Ultra's stock fan has become increasingly loud over the last week, to the point where I can no longer hear myself think.
Can a new fan be ordered and attached to the existing heatsink, or does the whole unit need to be replaced?  I have no idea what 3rd party part would be compatible, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Hello there, I too had the same problem after 1 month of having the K8N Neo4 Platinum Motherboard.  All was well and silent then all of a sudden the NORTHBRIDGE fan started clattering and getting very loud to which was very disturbing.
The only way around this is completely taking out the "MSI" provided NORTHRBIDGE fan by removing the motherboard from the case and pressing on the clips on back of the board that hold the fan and then popping in a new NORTHBRIDGE fan/cooler.  I found a great replacement for the cheapie MSI provided fan in the "VANTEC CCB-A1C Ball VGA COOLER" which is all copper based and purchased from www.newegg.com for under 15 US dollars shipped.
Below is the picture of what the fan I recommend looks like...
I have since been using the "VANTEC ICEBERG COPPER COOLER" and the NForce4 chipset has been running very-very cool and was a perfect fit!
    Take care, Ice!
Sorry to revive an old thread but looking at my problem and how often it was that question asked here, I want you to help clear things up...
Is this Cooler you are referring to, this one? The same model and everything?
    http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-23998289-cooler-chipset-o-video-vantec-iceberq-modding-_JM
Because if it is, I can buy it here knowing I will have that cooler replaced...
Another thing, Which is better? Titanium or copper? cos the titanium one is cheaper...
Thanxs a lot for helping me out pals...
EDIT: Sorry, pal... Didn't mean to offend anyone
