Hi friends,
Can some one please tell me the concept and which scenerios we have to use Master Production Scheduling (MPS)?
Some one told me that we are using MPS for component marked as "A part".
What is this A-part in MPS?
Actually I discussed lot with friends but all are giving different opinions. And also I know to some extenct about the meaning of MPS. Eventhough i want opinion from experts like you.
Please help dear experts

the MPS component (PP-MP-MPS) to flag materials, which greatly influence company profits or which take up critical resources, as master schedule items and to check and plan them separately with a series of special tools.
MPS is executed using the same principles as MRP.
The aim of MPS is to reduce storage costs and to increase planning stability. This is useful in the following cases:
To ensure that there is good material availability, various floats and a safety stock are entered, which inevitably lead to high stock levels. Thus, high storage costs are incurred, especially for valuable materials.
The master plan of these materials greatly influences the entire production process: The planning of the dependent parts depends on the planning result of the finished products and main assemblies, even if the finished products represent a small share of all the materials to be planned. Frequent changes at finished product level can render the complete MRP run unstable.
Prerequisites
You have set an MRP type for master production scheduling in the material master (MRP 1 view).
You define MRP types in Customizing for MRP in the IMG activity Check MRP types.
You have entered a planning time fence.
You can define a planning time fence per material or you can also use the MRP group in the material master to assign a planning time fence to a material. The planning time fence that you assign manually has priority over the planning time fence in the MRP group.
The firming type, which you have defined in Customizing, determines whether the system is to create procurement proposals for material shortage in the planning time fence and how these procurement proposals are to be scheduled.
Process Flow
You start the total planning run for master schedule items or single-item planning for master schedule items.
In contrast to the MRP run, this planning run only plans the master schedule item level. The system creates dependent requirements for the BOM level directly below the planning level. However, this level and lower levels are not planned.
Depending on the settings of the MRP type, any changes to be made to the master plan are only proposed within the planning time fence. Outside of the planning time fence, procurement proposals are created as usual.
You use interactive planning to check the planning result and finely tune the master plan for the master schedule items. You hereby pay particular attention to planning and scheduling the procurement proposals that are required to cover shortages within the planning time fence.
Once the master plan has been finely tuned for the master schedule items, you start the total planning run for all dependent parts. Various options exist here:
You can start the planning run for all BOM levels directly from the total planning run for MPS. To do this, you set the indicator Process MRP materials in the initial screen of the total planning run for MPS. The system will only plan the other BOM levels if this indicator is set.
If you want to plan the total BOM structure for individual master schedule items only, you can work with the single-item, multi-level planning in the menu for MPS.
You evaluate the planning result using standard evaluations or user-specific evaluations.

    Hi Gurus,
    We have the following problem. The project I am working in has 2 phases. In the first phase SD module was implemented. Now in the second phase we have implemented MPS in PP.
    The point is that for all the new sales orders that are created in the system a  customer independent requirement is generated by the MPS but we do not know how to update all the old open sales orders to generate a requirement.
    Is there any standard program or way to do so?

    Thanks for your reply. I have tested the program SDRQCR21 and works fine for all the orders I have created since I have activated the MPS becuase as far as I have seen the program checks the entries in table VBBE. The problem is that all the sales orders I create before the MPS was running has no entries in that table so it does not work for them.
    Do you know if there is a way to get them in?

  • Sales orders ans reservations not taken into account on MPS / MRP

    Hello,
    I am implementing the MPS / MRP and I have the following problem:
    I have modified the necessary material master fields to take into account some materials on the MPS / MRP execution. These fields are MRP type, Lot Size, Strategy group and Availability Check.
    Then, executing the MPS / MRP I have realised that only the sales orders and reservations created after the material master modifications are taken into account when I execute the MPS / MRP.
    I suppose this is because the sales orders and reservations created before the material master modifications did not create the requirements because the availability check was not set for the material and so on... but I need to take into account these "old" reservations and sales orders .
    Is there any way to "update" these orders and reservations?? Or I need to delete them and create new ones??
    There are several sales orders and reservations created before the material master modifications. I think there have to be an standard way to update them.

    Are you getting these reservation in MD04?
    Check the Planning file entry for these material in MD21 if not then create it through MD20 and take MRP run with planning mode -3 Deleted and recreated. And Processing key NETCH.
    Also check the The firmed receipt is within the rescheduling horizon. The rescheduling horizon is set in Customizing for the MRP group (Transaction OPPR, Table T438M). A default value can be predefined in the Customizing of plant data (Transaction OPPQ, Table T399D). define the longer duration for it.
    The firmed receipt (the MRP element) participates in the rescheduling check. You can set which MRP elements participate in the rescheduling check in the Customizing of the plant data (Transaction OPPQ).
    Else you can carry out modification A using the MD_CHANGE_MRP_DATA BAdI and the CONSIDER_RESB method without making a modification.

    In my understanding this does not falls under dynamic date calculation,so you may not be successful in scheduling this properly.
    So on this particular date you have to schedule every time.
    The other way is you can create 2 variants one with running on every 5th day from the month begining and the other one on
    23rd.
    But you cannot achieve using one variant.
    check and revert back.

    Right now , I have access to some of the sound files but most are missing and all are incorrectly labeled.
    Is it possible to ("Library") these sound files or access them from logic?

  • Running MPS also runs MRP type PD materials

    Hello experts,
    In ECC 6.0, we have certain critical FINI materials to run with MPS ( ie type M0) while there are other FINI materials ( non critical) to run on MRP ( ie type PD).
    The issue we are finding is that ECC running MPS even for other MRP driven FINI materials in Tcode : MD40 ( with the Process MRP materials field checked). What we actually need is that MPS run for only those FINI materials that have MPS (ie type M0) & it's direct subassemblies of those materials which are MRP type PD.
    We do not want the MPS run to drive MRP for other FINI materials that have MRP type PD.
    I have checked SAP notes and they had similar issue & hence have a resolution note for earlier versions of SAP ( 3.0 to 4.6 versions). So this issue seems to be occouring again in ECC.
    Has anyone else come across this issue in ECC 6.0? If yes how it was resolved.

    Just to understand the query better, can you let me know why you dont want the MPS run to drive the MRP run for other finished parts which are marked for MRP run? Is it that these parts are not to be planned?

    In the former Firefox version there was a box to click for converting YouTube music videos into HQ mp3 files. That box is no longer apparent in the new Firefox version. I went back to Ad-On s and re-downloaded the program YouTube to MP3 1.2. It says it's not compatible with Firefox 6.0. Can I reinstall the older version of Firefox?

    When I clicked on the second site mentioned, I got such EXPLICIT, step-by-step directions!!! Thank you so much. I'd been wondering what that window was that kept popping up with the Firefox icon and that other funny thing. The word *install* was never mentioned. Pictographs were never my thing.
    When I looked under the initial system requirements, it said that OS X 10.4.5 and higher were good for 5.0. I didn't check further. Under your advice, I'll go with the older version. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

  • Report MPs not appearing

    i have installed SCSM 2012 datawarehouse server with Reporting services in the same server.
    In SCSM console, reporting tab is not appearing and it says reporting services unavailable error.
    When i see Management packs under Datawarehouse, only two management packs are shown for the query "Report"
    SErvice manager linked reports
    service manager reporting presentation pack
    Other than these two, no other report related mp are shown.
    If i go to properties of MPSync job, there is nothing MP status shown as pending or failed. All says associated.
    This means no reporting MP has been deployed.
    If i see Operations manager event viewer, it gives the below event id

    I am working on a festo MPS PA compact workstation and I have connected the system to the PC using the EasyPort.
    So far, I can send commands to the system to turn on some components like Pump, Heater, Pressure Valve. But the problem is that I could not read the data from the sensors at the system like the tank level and the temperature of the water.

    thanks for the forum post. Are you not able to read any values? or are you getting incorrect values? Are the reads from the sensors digital reads or analog reads?

  • Problem with MPS Run

    Hi PP Gurus,
    A FERT material say u201CXu201D has following details.
    Type: FERT, MRP type: M3 (MPS fixing Type 3),
    Planning time fence- 14 days
    Material u201CXu201D is a subcomponent of say u201CYu201D (Parent Material)
    Material u201CXu201D has a subcomponent say u201Czu201D
    Back ground job is getting executed on daily basis for both MPS/MRP.
    But all the materials are not getting planned on daily basis.
    So , I need clarifications for below questions
    *a) what are all the prerequisites for planning MPS/MRP run*
    *b) Is it the requirements gets planned daily or incase of any changes occur in the requirements?*
    *c) How planning time fence works out?*

    Thanks a lot for your immediate response and got clarified, However could you please elaborate on following on our specific issue?
    As Indicated in previously, the BOM has folowing material combinations.
    " X"is the parent material (FERT)MRP type: M3 (MPS fixing Type 3),
    " Y" is the subcomponent of "X"(FERT)MRP type: M3 (MPS fixing Type 3),
    "Z" is the subcomponet of "Y"(HALB)MRP type: P3 (MRP fixing Type 3),
    Scenario:MRP/MPS is getting run on daily basis.But on specific date,we noticed that material"Y" has not planned and planned orders exists ( as per previous MRP run) within the time fence only(MD04).But if we run  MRP on "Y" material individually, the planned orders got shifted to outside of the time fence!!! This means some changes occured for planning file!!! and subsequent quanties being planned outside the time fence.
    As per your response, we assume the following.
    Since , no changes occured for materail" Y" no MRP being carried out on specific date.right?
    But, how come the planned orders being moved outside of the time fence, if no changes occured in planning file?

  • Multiprocessor PC ACPI vs MPS, K8D Master

    I got a K8D Master with 2 AMD opterons....
    I installed windows 2k pro on the pc.  I was told I need to turn multiprocessor support on in device manager.. I went in to it and see that ACPI Multiprocessor PC is the driver installed.
    Should I leave that (is it supporting both CPU's?) or shoould i change it to MPS Multiprocessor PC ??

    ACPI Multiprocessor PC sounds right to me
      ACPI Uniprocessor PC is the right way in a single set up
     any thing else is a lesser set up im sure its similar

  • MPS multi-level

    Dear PP Experts,
    I have a query about MPS single item-multilevel run (MD41).
    If I have FG A (mrp type : M0), component SFG B (M0), Pack C (PD), and SFG B has lower level Raw Mat D(PD).
    When i run the MPS single item multilevel (MD41), the planned order is created for all material.
    As my understanding MPS run only for material that use MRP type (M0,M1,M2,M3,M4).
    My question is why MPS run also create planned order for MRP item ?
    Am I miss some customizing or misunderstand about these transaction?

    Hi Loh
    In general MPS is run for High value items ( if you use like Gold , Platimum or A class items. ).
    Always only single level is used for Explosion and planning. then only you can analyse the requirements at each stage before procurement.
    Otherwise if you run MPS to multi level, Bottom most high value will be procured without any notice to authorities. Even you may cancel the process in mid way. At that time what will happen to the procured high value material.
    So for that purpose only single item single level MPS concept is evolved.

    I ran a small scenario
    material    MRP Type     Low Level    SG           M/T Type
    A      M0         000             40              FERT
    B               PD              001              40             HALB
    c               PD              002               10             ROH
    Maintained PIRs(MD61) for material A, and ran MD41( Single Item Multi level Planning)
    As material A is an MPS item, I was expecting that it should create planned orders only for material A, but in this MPS run it created planned orders for material B & C. (Looked into MD04, where I see planned orders were created
    for all the levels)
    As per the MPS run, it will plan only for one level of BOM (in this scenario for material A)
    Any suggestions, why planned orders were created for material B & C
    please clarify

    Just check
    System must have created a dependent requirement planned order and not the planned order for requirement you put in demand management for B and C
    i.e. if you enter a demand in MD61 for B and C, run the transaction, system will not consider this requirement during MPS run. MPS run will consider the requirement if the requirement for the child is comming from parement where parent is MPS item.
    Hence you need to run MRPm for B amd C if teh requirement(not dependdent requirement from A) is to be considered.

    Yes what you have observed is right but there are also following additional features of MPS which can be used (these are not there with single item multilevel run - md03.
    Planning Time Fence
    You can protect the master plan from any automatic changes to master schedule items in the near future by using a planning time fence. Within the planning time fence, the system does not automatically schedule or change the procurement proposals. Therefore, the MRP controller has time to plan the master schedule items manually. However, to support the MRP controller, the system can create necessary procurement proposals and schedule them for the end of the planning time fence. You can then schedule these procurement proposals manually as you wish.
    Processing the Planning Result Interactively
    With interactive planning, you can check the results of the automatic planning run for master schedule items with simple and easy-to-use tools and simulate changes and regenerative planning. The system does not save the planning data in the database until you save the interactive planning.
    Interactive planning is especially useful for adjusting dates of planned orders falling within the planning time fence.
    Evaluating the MPS Run
    With the help of the user-friendly structure of the planning results, you can react quickly and efficiently to any problems that may occur. A series of standard evaluations are available within MPS to achieve this. You can also generate individual evaluations according to your specific needs.

  • Planned order for MPS items can be unfirmed in MRP plan

    Hi All,
    I'm using SCP functionality (not ASCP) in MRP module. I run a global MPS first and then use it as supply schedule to drive mrp plans. I noticed that some planned orders (for MPS items) loaded into MRP from MPS can be unfirmed in MRP and I can enter new quantity and new date for them, whereas other planned orders for MPS cannot be unfirmed.
    What is the logic behind it? How to control it?

    Hi Ram,
    I don't think that there should be any issue due to the planned order created in the system against the PIR for the next month ....& it will not lead to improper planing even if the demand changes still we are not going for the firmed planned order....... if the PIR changes during the next MRP run then it will adjust the planned order accordingly .....
    Still you want to  restrict the planning to the current month then the simplest way that  I can think of is planning horizon....

  • Incorrect On Hand Quantities in MPS Workbench!!!

    All,
    We are opening an SR for this but I wanted to see if anyone knows anything about this problem:
    We run MPS off of an MDS. We go into the MPS workbench to check the results.
    We find that the On Hand Quantity used in MPS is TOO HIGH. It appears that it is counting quantities in reservations as on hand quantity!
    For example:
    Item A has 732 ea. On Hand in Inventory
    Item A also has a RESERVATION of 509 to ship on a Sales Order today.
    In the MPS Workbench, when we view on hand quantities, it shows 732 and 509 in the same subinventory, and a total nettable inventory of 1241.
    That's clearly not right!!!
    Has anyone seen this problem before or can anyone reccomend some action to fix?

    But that still does not explain why double quantities are showing up in the On Hand in the MPS workbench. It is as if the reservation itself is showing up as a supply... or rather an on hand quantity.
