Hi,
Does anybody have an idea on how to create a multi language dashboard title?
Is there a way to incoparate a session variable in the dashboard title?

  • Multi Language Dashboards

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a dashboard which supports multiple languages. I am only to trying to change the labels to the appropriate language.
    For example, on my dashboard I have a label called "Year", based on the users InfoView locale I would like to change this to Spanish of "Ano".
    My thought's so far, I have a XML file stored centrally (as I can not use Translations Manager) which has all my translations and can read that into Xcelsius, but what I can not do is get the InfoView locale of the users.
    Any thoughts on how I can achieve the objective?
    Thanks
    We are Xcelsius 2008

    I am not at my pc so can't do a quick example, but it is possible to do this I think. Here is how I see it:
    1) In excel, create a cell that we can call the "switching" cell.
    2) In xcelsius, create a component (use any that allows you to pick from a list) for the language choice and feed it the list of available languages. Then make sure that the choice being made on that list gets written to the switching cell in excell.
    3) Instead of linking all the titles and labels to a cell in excel that actually contains the text before your start, create a column or row of blank cells. Say that is in column E.
    4) In subsequent columns, add all the labels and totles required, using one column for each language.
    5) Use the results from the switching cell to look-up the relevant language into column E (alternatively, you could use an offset).
    6) All your references to totles and labels in xcelsius are based on a cell in column e. As the language is selected, column E picks up data from columns F to whatever, using the switching cell as its pointer.
    There are several ways to do this. The above is high level and doesn't give you the whole worked out example, but some kind soul may be able to do a quick mock-up for you if you don't know how to set up the excel logic at all (though there are lots of examples around).
    Sorry this is not more detailed: I won't have access to xcelsius until Monday.
    EDIT
    I did not make it explicit but I was thinking of European languages. If you needed support for Asian languages, for example, you would need to ensure that the full character sets were available in both excel and xcelsius and probably to embed the fonts, which in my experience results in significant display issues.

  • Production tips for multi language titles...Arabic plus others...

    I am teaching a DVDSP course with a student who will produce multi language titles. Arabic is the primary with French, German, and English as the alternates.
    I follow the scripting ideas to test for which language the users select but I have a question on the menu production process.
    Is it this?
    Set language on Mac to Arabaic-Author this menu set-likely 2-3 menus
    Save work
    Switch language set to German-Author the same menu sets
    Save work
    Ditto for French and English.
    Switch back to Arabic and finish the project.
    Or this?
    Graphic buttons with 3 states each for German, French and English? Accept the issues with layered menus.
    Happy Holidays!

    Michael Mizen wrote:
    Set language on Mac
    Sorry Michael, but what exactly do you mean by that? And why would you need layered menus?
    In my book there are three approaches to the task.
    First: create 4 language folders in the project for Arabic, French, German and English. Create identical graphics and overlays for each menu set, except of course text which will be different for each language. Import them into DVD SP and change project language for each set to put menus in place. Make sure your VTSM does not go over 1 Gig. Author the DVD.
    The only problem with this approach is the user settings on a DVD player. If the user never bothered to change from default English to anything else, then only English menus will be displayed.
    Second: Create all your menus (in different VTSMs if you like, especially if content differs. It is not necessarily to do so). Create "Master" menu with language choices. Branch from it to language sets. Use "Display condition" in the advanced tab for tracks and menus for navigation tracking. Saves tons of redundant scripting.
    Third: Script your menus for tracking and re-directing navigation to the correct language of user choice. The only way for Spec authoring environments such as Scenarist.
    Needless to say the menus should be created outside of DVD SP
    Good luck to you and your student, and happy Holidays.

  • Multi language support for reports and prompts labels

    Is there a way to configure reports prompts labels with session\presentation variables,
    in order to support multi language interface?

    Deepak,
    It works fine..i have tested.
    Nir,
    Here is the solution for your requirement
    Requirement1
    I want to label the listbox with X, where X is either 'Categories' or 'Products'.1.In your rpd, create a new session variable init block
    Name : DynamicName
    Query: select case when ':USER' = 'USER1' then 'REGION1' else
    CASE WHEN ':USER' = 'USER2' THEN 'REGION2' end end from dual
    Assign the above query’s result to a session variable; DISP_NAME
    2.Double click on the presentation column(in presentation layer) that is supposed to change dynamically->check the box ”Custom Display Name” -> Type in VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION. DISP_NAME)
    3.With the assumption that you already have created a prompt with the above column, login as USER1, you will see the prompt label as 'REGION1' (value is fetched from the session block query).Similarly login as ‘USER2’ and check the prompt label to show 'REGION2'
    This solves the first requirement.
    Requirement2
    On the dashboard I would like to present the title: 'Report by X', where X is either 'Categories' or 'Products'.1.Navigate to your report in answers
    2.Add a column with the formula, case when VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER)='USER1' THEN 'Report by Categories' when VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER)='USER2' THEN 'Report by Product' else 'Your custom/default title’ end
    3.Add a narrative view to the report (remove the existing title view) and the give the reference as the column added in step 2.Save the report.
    4.Logout and login as USER1, you can see the report title as 'Report by Categories' and for USER2 , it will be 'Report by Product'
    Let me know if this solves your issue.

  • Multi Language Solution (not by use of "Translate Application")

    Hi All,
    I try to implement a "multi language" functionality into my APEX Application but want to avoid the "Translate Application" method.
    As I'm not very keen in JavaScript and PL/SQL Coding, I need your help.
    What I want to do:
    I have a table tbl_lang (var varchar2(20), lang_en varchar2(50), lang_de varchar2(50), lang_fr varchar2(50)).
    It contains the name of a variable "var" that shall be filled with the Item Titles in the preselected language (de, fr or en).
    The language can be chosen from a select list an dependent of the chosen language I do a "select var, lang_*en* from ... " or a "select var, lang_*de* from ... " and I fill my variable with the dependent language.
    Each Item on my Page has the variable set instead of a written Title.
    The Title of the Item Surname is for example &P2_LANG_SURENAME. and has the Value is "Surename" or "Vorname" or "Prénom".
    The Problem ist:
    I don't want to define a hidden Item for each Variable.
    Is it possible to read the translations from the tbe_lang and fill a bunch of variables or an array that I can use within the Apllication without binding it to a hidden Item?
    Best regards
    Thomas

    Hello Thomas,
    >> That menas if I want to change the original application I have to redeploy the language after each change!?
    I’m not sure what you mean by redeploy. The principle of the APEX translation mechanism is that you have your primary language application, which contains all your application logic. For each extra language, the APEX engine creates a language mapping application (a shadow copy as you call it) which contains a copy of your application logic and all the relevant translations to the underlying language. The translation mechanism includes a seed process which synchronize all the changes made to your primary language application (which is the only application you are working on) and also generate a XLIFF file that contains all the translatable components of your application. When you are done translating the XLIFF file, you can use the APEX translation mechanism to publish the new version and translation.
    Moreover, the APEX translation mechanism also allows you to translate all the APEX engine internal messages, which you can’t do by yourself.
    If by deployment you mean installing the multi-lingual application in a new APEX instance, working with the APEX translation mechanism means that you’ll need to install 3 (in your case) separate applications. The primary language application (which can also include all the supporting object) and simple import of all the other translated applications.
    From my own experience I can assure you that working with the APEX translation mechanism is much much more simpler, easier and efficient than the road you want to take, not to mention the far more simple (and central) maintenance options. Your way – specific PL/SQL code for each language – can be a maintenance nightmare.
    Also, bear in mind (and I believe this was your original question) that you’ll need to maintain a hidden item for every page component with a label, e.g. page items, buttons, tabs, report headers, etc. You’ll probably need to use some dynamic SQL functions otherwise you’ll have to deal with each component separately. In other words, you’re not only want to reinvent the wheel (as all of it has already been done by the development team) you are not dealing with very small and basic wheel, but something far more complicated.
    From your response to my questions, I understand that you never experience the use of the APEX translation mechanism. I think you should try it. You can use apex.oracle.com for that. Develop a simple application that includes all the component types you going to use (Forms, Reports, Tabular Forms, IR etc.) and see how you can handle it all. Only then, you should decide what road to take.
    As I said in my first post, what you are asking is probably doable. The question is whether you need to do it.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • Multi-language navigation on portal

    How can I create a multi-language navigation without a need to create same pages many times for different languages?

    Hi guys,
    I am facing a similar problem with a customer. They want to have the page titles in Group Space navigation in multi-language.
    For example: Navigation in English: Home - Employees - Help. If language is changed to Spanish: Inicio - Empleados - Ayuda. These pages are created by final users inside a Group Space, so we would like to find a way to specify translations of the page title at creation.
    I found Oracle guides where it is explained how to do page translations:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15586_01/webcenter.1111/e12405/wcadm_languages.htm#CHDGAJHJ
    However, it implies WLST command executions and we need another way, because it is going to be performed by users, not administrators. Therefore using WLST commands is not a choice.
    Would you know how to achieve this?
    Thanks in advance

  • Define a Multi Language Roadmpa in Solution Manager

    Hi gurus.
    How can I define a multi language roadmap in Solution Manager?
    I'm defining a roadmap using the RMAUTH transaction, but I've just defined the roadmap in English.
    I need to have the roadmap in two more languages...   What is the procedure to built it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Elaine,
    the text that is displayed in the structure can have two different sources:
    1. If no document is assigned or if the flag 'Name copied from assigned topic, if there is one' is not set the texts are read from
    table IATNODE01T. To translate this table you need to know the corresponding table keys. There's a tree ID which is the same for the
    whole roadmap and a node ID that is unique for each structure element.
    To find out these IDs call the roadmap authoring tool (RMAUTH) and select a node. then type 'NODE_INFO' into the ok-code field (on the top left just under the menu) and press enter. A popup with the node information opens. The structure ID corresponds to the TREE_ID in table IATNODE01T and the Node ID is the NODE_ID.
    2. If a topic document is assigned and the mentioned flag is set (which is the standard) the text that is displayed will be taken from the title of the assigned document. The translation of the document is possible in the Knowledge Warehouse (transaciotn SI80). There you can find the documents in the folder they are assigned to. Normally all documents of one roadmap are saved in one folder.
    If you are not sure about the folder name you can look it up in the roadmap authoring environment RMAUTH. Select the relevant structure element and choose 'Document Attributes' at the document display on the right side. Then select 'Display' to open a popup that contains the folder name of the topic document.
    I hope this information helps to translate the roadmap.
    Kind regards,
    Fabricius

  • Multi-language JRE via auto-download?

    It seems that the JRE installed via the auto-download cab file for Windows is not the multi-language version. If I install the JRE by hand and then launch my Web Start application, I have no issues accessing other encodings like JIS_X0201. However, if I use the auto-download feature described in the Java Web Start tutorial (using http://java.sun.com/update/1.6.0/jinstall-6-windows-i586.cab#Version=6,0,0,0...) I get an English-only version and end up with UnsupportedCharsetExceptions when I access other encodings.
    So, in short: Is there a way to get the multi-language JRE via auto-download?
    Thanks!

    Thats the GUI I am talking about
    Confirmation Needed - Print
    Print Request
    Applet would like to print . Do you want to proceed?
    Don't show this dialog box again?
    Yes No
    I want this to be in Portuguese, my native language.
    I changed the code like this:
    import java.util.Locale;
    import java.util.ResourceBundle;
    private String language = "br";
    private String country = "BR";
    Locale currentLocale;
    ResourceBundle messages;
    currentLocale = new Locale(language, country);
    messages =ResourceBundle.getBundle("MessagesBundle",currentLocale);
    ( I included )
    ( I algo created those files )
    MessageBundle.properties
    Dialog = Confirmation Needed - Print
    Title = Print Request
    Text = Applet would like to print. Do you want to proceed?
    Warn = Don't show this dialog again
    MessageBundle_br_BR.properties
    Dialog = Confirmao Requisitada - Impresso
    Title = Requisio de Impresso
    Text = O Applet deseja imprimir. Deseja prosseguir?
    Warn = No mostre esta caixa de dilogo novamente.
    Everything according to tutorial.
    But I did not understand how this change a dialog that came from the JRE!!

  • Oracle 9i Support for multi language is not working.. Giving question mark

    HI,
    We have an application which uses oracle 9i as the database. Riight now we are supporting only english and there is a requirement to support multiple languages like korean, chineese and japaneese.
    But we are planning to migrate one part of the application to support multi languages. Means it may affect around 10 tables but with huge data. Totally we have around 100 tables.
    How to enable the database for supporting multiple langugages.?
    Is there any way to enable only the few tables supporting multiple languages. Because if we change the database level parameters for supporting languages, we may need to migrate entire tables. this will be a huge task.
    Even if want to set the parameters for supporting multiple languages.. how to set it. Is it possible set it in the existing database or do we need to re-create the table with these prameters.
    I have read in some documentation, that we can create table columns with nVarchar2 for supporting multi languages. I have created it. but if i copy some other language characters into those columns, it is giving question mark.
    Is it possible to do search using text in native langugage like chineese..
    Could somebody guide me on the above clarificationa and what would be the best approach..
    Thanks in advance

    You should not use any more Oracle 9.0.1 but at least Oracle 9.2.0.8 to get some extended support if you really cannot upgrade to 10g.

  • Multi language web site

    Multi language web site
    What is the best way to have my web site switchable (initially from links on the main index.html page) between different languages?
    Do I simply clone the English version (including all the sub-directories and structure) into a sub-directory and translate each page and put a link on the main index.html page to a translated copy of the index.html page in the German sub-directory
    That would mean I effectively have two websites to maintain.
    More when it is translated into more languages.
    Currently all the English pages are made from a template (dwt file)
    I assume this adds a level of complication to the design.
    Or is there a better/easier way?
    thanks

    This is a website that the client did not continue with http://ncca.com.au/new/, hence it has not been finished.
    In the top right hand corner are two flags, Dutch and English. By clicking on a flag, the language session variable is changed. This session variable is used througout the website to determine the content as in
    if ($_SESSION['lang'] == 'en') {include("home_en.php");}
    if ($_SESSION['lang'] == 'nl') {include("home_nl.php");}
    If there are more languages it is better to use the select switch rather than an if statement.

    I will like to know were can I find information on how to make a AddOn multi language available.
    Best regards.
    Edited by: Jose Villarreal on Apr 21, 2008 5:27 PM

    You have to program this by hand.  Now there is an event that let's the add-on know when the language has been change.  That could be a start, but you have to program all the translation on your add-on, is not done automatically.

  • Multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms

    multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms
    Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

    Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

    Hi,
    Lets say you have two smart styles with X and Y, and runtime based on the number of pages, if you would like to modify the style, then check any standard table or structue which holds and responsible for the holding the style value.
    If you can trace that, based on the coding we can modify accordingly.

  • Best practice for developing multi language Website

    Hi all
    I want to develop my website in multiple languages and I know that I can put all the msg string in the resource bundle or in the database, however, I think this makes the interface of the web becomes very difficult to develop because I can't see anything in the HTML editor. Another solution is to use XSL that I believe HTML editors is able to display the tagname or some description of the XSL tag but I am not sure about that because I haven't used it before.
    Have any expert web developers find a better solution or do you guys think XSL is the best solutions? Any suggestions are very welcome. Thank You!
    From
    Edmond

    being not familiar with xsl, I say go for resources. If you define your own tag to display text, it isnt that hard to understand, e.g.
    <translate id="hello.world"/>. That at least is how I make multi language website.
