Multiclip re-synch

Hi, I'm using multiclip on a concert edit and just noticed after a battery change on the crane camera it's gone out of synch which is odd in itself as it's centrally timecoded.
I'm trying to re-synch that angle from the timeline but however I do it, it just re-sysnchs that particular cut at that point in time, then when that angle comes around again it's back out of synch.
Tried doing it to the master clip in the browser but the changes aren't reflected in the timeline cut. I've done this loads of times but something is going fundamentally wrong.
So how do I re-synch the whole angle in an edit already in the timeline?

Yeah it seems you can change the master multiclip in the browser and on the timeline PROVIDED you haven't made any edits. If you make edits then you only effect that angles cut for the duration it's live, then it's back out of synch.
So unless anyone has a solution, it's back to the timeline to adjust every angle from that camera...aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
As useful as multiclip is, when it goes wrong, it goes wrong big style. (just try media managing a multiclip project and you'll see what I mean!)

  • Getting red render bar when editing HD multiclips

I'm editing a multiclip music video in Final Cut Pro 6.0.3. The sequence setting matches the size and frame rate of the footage, which is 1920 x 1080, 23.98 fps, using Apple ProRes 422 (HQ).
I have my multiclips all synched and when I put them in to the canvas to begin editing, I get the dreaded red render bar. I have never had this issue before when editing in SD. When I have "Unlimited RealTime" checked I get the yellow/orange bar.
Any advice on how to make this easier and flow faster?? My computer keeps crashing.
and I'm running MacOSX 10.5.2 on a Dual 2.5 GHz G5 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM.
    Thanks in advance!

2 or 2.5 gigs of ram would help (IIRC, 2.5 is all FCP will utilitze).
We just had a thread about this issue on an iMac. You might want to review it...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9091740#9091740
Where is your media stored and how many streams in your multiclip. How is the media connected...FW400/800/eSata/RAID (internal/external)?
Increased ram may help, but I'm inclined to think you could be maxing out your drive throughput.

  • PLEASE help with multi-cam edit issue (head about to explode...)

PLEASE believe me when I say I've watched 20 YouTube videos on the subject, read the manual, reinstalled FCS on a new machine (in the event that the install or my last MBP was at fault), etc., etc....
JUST can't get FCP to make the cuts for me when I click on the angles in the viewer.
Despite making a multi-clip, open synch, green/blue boarder for audio/video angle and blue boxes for video only, rendering, etc., the same thing always happens...
When I hit the space-bar, making all the angles play @ same time in the browser, and then I click on an angle to make a real-time cut, the in-point of the selected angle pops onto the canvas (a still frame) and everything STOPS.
Happy to describe any other details; can begin to tell you how stoked I'll be if I can get past this...
(I've been reduced to trying to use iMovie to cut this 3 angle live-music performance video, which is taking HOURS for a single song...with terrible results...)
    :-/

    Starting over:
    1) Import 3 .dv clips (all same frame size, vid rate, compression, etc.)
    2) Create new bin for footage, assign angle numbers to clips
    2) Add in-point for synchronization
    3) Make multiclip (and synch in-points)
    4) Double-click on multiclip (and it then shows in viewer)
    5) Press "overwrite" to bring multiclip into timeline
    6) Open playhead sync
    7) Assign blue and green 'boxes' in viewer (audio/video, and video only)
    8) Click into timeline, make sure playhead is to the front of the sequence
    9) hit space bar to start editing.
    10) NOW, whenever I click on an angle in the viewer to make an edit, playback stops and a still frame for the selected angle shows in the canvas.
    ANY THOUGHTS??

  • Synching Multiclip Angle

I am editing a seven-camera shoot. Everything was perfect except that one of my shooters stopped recording about one second after the slate. I only found out when I went to load the video. (I want to moirderlize the guy for not speaking up when there was time to simply re-slate.)
Anyway, I am aware that you can hold down Control and Shift and then click and drag the angle I need to adjust. But that seems designed for correcting an angle that is off by a few frames.
So I have no in point for one of my angles when I create the multiclip. I know that I can drag and add the offending clip from the Browser and add it into the already created six-camera multiclip. Does anybody have adjustment suggestions that are quicker and more efficient for synching the one clip to the other six?

I'd simply create a 6 angle mclip and cut the first minute or so with those 6 good angles,
Then find a sync point (that falls within that first minute) for all 7 angles and create a 2nd mclip to begin on 'inpoint'.
Then locate where that 'inpoint' from the 1st mclip is and drop the second mclip next to it.
May take a few extra minutes, but should be relatively painless.

  • Multiclip synching via Time Line In Points?

I have read the manual and still have a question.
I have multiple camera angles on a single musical performance. I have no trouble synching up the clips the old-fashioned way using audio waveforms, but I'd like to be able to see all my angles at the same time for ease of cutting. That sounds cool.
These angles do not have synched time code. I have to use an In Point for synching up.
I took two angles, and clicked them from my browser into the viewer one at a time. I set rough in and out points and edited them to separate tracks on my timeline. I fine-tuned the synching in the time line. They are now synched clips, video and audio.
If I am in the viewer or timeline, my multiclip functions are greyed out in the drop-down menus. I assume I can only access the multiclip function from the browser. Having synched up in points in the timeline, how do I get these clips back into the browser so I can create synched multiclip angles out of them?
    Thanks.
    Paul S.

I just worked at it until I figured it out. Set the in points in the viewer based on your ear -- the same sound in both clips. It might not be exactly synched but it's close enough. Don't mess with timeline. Once clips have the synched in point, just create the multiclip.

  • Multiclip editing - what to do if one camera is not continuous synch?

    Help!
I've got to edit a one hour show overnight. Two cameras. One camera is shooting continuous, only one stop to change tape. The second camera was stopping and starting all the way through. I synched up the clips of the start\stop camera all the way through on track two. Synched in camera one where it starts up after a tape change. So I have a timeline with the whole show, made up of two tracks of clips. Is there any way I can use the 'multiclip' editing function AFTER I've synched up the two cameras?
The only thing I can think of quickly is to export the two cameras one at a time from the edited timeline, in the same format, and create new contiguous single clips for each all the way through. Then import these new one hour clips to do multi clip editing (all the blanks filled with black slugs). I'd like to avoid all that render time. And a second generation Quicktime.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated,
    Ben

I agree that the ol' split screen effect is a good way to edit multiple cameras, if you only have two cameras, it's still a bit of a waste of time. If there are only two shots from which to choose, it's a binary selection. In the olden days, I'd simply turn off the camera 2 track and razor blade out and delete all useless footage from camera 1. The holes MUST be filled by camera 2. Where there are overlapping shots, it should be easy to choose the better.
Your three camera shoot could benefit from two things:
    1. A tailboard meeting where you explain why you expect each tape to roll continuously
    2. Communication via walkietalkie or wireless intercom (rent them)
    3. A big digital clock with seconds hung on a wall where all cameras can see it. If any camera gets stopped (it happens) or batteries die, they can shoot the clock for ten seconds to provide accurate sync..

  • Multiclip project out of synch

    Newbie...
I've done a 4 camera multiclip music project and 1 of my clips has gone out of sych with the audio (the other 3 are good)....how do I fix this?

    Hi
As to the problem - This occured for me and a 1 hour / two Camera project
In this case - I had a true problem as one Camera didn't match the other.
My small hand held Camera was - Sencitive to movement of Camera - The big one was not
Switching set-up to let small Camera be stationary and big one Hand held made futher propjects
totally OK and in Sync over full 62 minutes. (miniDV tape lenght used)
The troubling project was best off with Audio from both Cameras - nobody commented upon it.

  • Trying to reconnect an offline multiclip synched to out point...

after cutting a 4 camera shoot of a Live rock performance via multicam editing, my hard drive blew and i finally got the media from it to reconnect.
unfortunately what seems to be happening is the TAPE ONES of each camera (which was synced to multicam via IN POINT) reconnected fine, but TAPE TWOS (which was synced to multicam via OUT POINT) won't recoonect...mesage stating 'The file does not have proper content to reconnect to clip in sequence Live Gig. Click ok to make this item independent or go to the next clip of cancel to skip all clips from this file'
i think these clips don't have an in time and somehow won't reconnect...
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Brady:
Sorry I misunderstood how you were trying to connect.
It's possible that the address resolution protocol (arp) got messed up somewhere along the way. Try the following in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    sudo arp -da <return>
When prompted for a password, just enter your admin account password (Terminal won't echo anything you type when entering a password, so don't be thrown by this).
Exit Terminal, then try connecting via IP address again.
    Good luck!

  • Multiclip - mutliple audio tracks

This question has been asked before, but I'll reiterate it. If the support doesn't exist, hopefully apple dev will take it into consideration.
I shoot a lot of weddings and events. FCP's 5.0.x multiclip feature has been a lifesaver. I know the short answer to the following question is "get a mixer and do it in the field right the first time," which I'm working on. BUT, in the meanwhile...
Setup: 3-camera live shoots. We run three different mics: one cam has a wireless lapel mic on the groom; another has a wireless with a directional mic placed at readers' podium/spot; last is an on-camera mic.
Throughout the event the different mics are better for different sound: lapel mic for vows, directional mic for speakers, on-camera mic for organ and songs.
My FCP workflow so far has been this (and it could be the problem): export audio to .aiff, tweak it in STP, bring back into FCP, and link it with clip.
Here's the issue (finally!): Whenever I make these clips a "multiclip," the audio tracks (six in this case) are all automatically mixed together into two tracks in the multi-clip. All my hard work tweaking sound in STP is lost. (Again, might be a workflow issue.)
Does anyone know how to import the audio tracks, while still linked to the video, into a multiclip (and avoid manual synching in FCP timeline)?
I know one solution is to bring the separate audio files in and synch them manually in the timeline. But here's hoping someone can suggest something a bit less time-consuming...
    Thanks for any help!

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the audio is set up with six total audio tracks (two per video feed). I'm viewing the clips with "Video & Audio" selected as you described.
I'm synching clips I've cleaned up in STP manually ... but that's not the issue.
    Here's the issue:
    Pre multiclip files:
    V1 - A1, A2
    V2 - A3, A4
    V3 - A5, A6
    --->convert to multiclip<---
    Post multiclip files:
Viewer Window: V1, V2, V3 in multiclip config
Timeline Video: whichever angle I select
    *Timeline Audio* - A1*, A2*
Going to item properties for the audio tracks shows that A1* is comprised of A1, A3, A5 and A2* is comprised of A2, A4, A6. All the original audio tracks are there in the new multclip audio, just mixed together.
I want to know if there's a way to separate those audio tracks in the timeline on the mutliclip. I'd like to work with the separate tracks for the best sound rather than the "mixed" audio that multiclip seems to do automatically.

  • Multiclips and multiple audio tracks playing at the same time

I've only just taken delivery of my first ever mac (only ever used PC) with FCP, and I'm loving it already! Done lots of reading and viewing of video etc etc, and it's not as daunting as I thought it might be. I have one question the books don't seem to answer, and I can only find one reference to this on this site, with no definitive response. FCP5 probably doesn't work this way, but just in case someone knows different......
I film and edit motorsport (karting) programmes for television in the UK, using multiple cameras. I usually lay all the video and audio tracks on the timeline, (synched) lock the audio for each (as it is engine noise, and I want it playing without abrupt changes at cuts as each kart passes each camera, whether in shot or not) then cut the video tracks and delete those video segments not required.
The most exciting aspect of FCP5 for me is the multiclip editing facility, which I have found very easy to learn and is going to save me hours of work! However, I want to know if there is a way of having each audio track from each camera used in the multiclip laid down on the timeline when you import the multiclip to the timeline from the viewer, in order that I can play each audio track from each of the cameras at the same time.
I know how to cut from angle to angle, leaving the audio from the selected angle as the one audio track playing, but I want all of the tracks to appear in the timeline and play at the same time. I know there's a bit of a workaround by locking the video and importing each audio track from each clip independently, but if you do have to re-synch one of the multiclips, this means the audio is not then synched with the original clip, which will have had an in point set before being imported in as part of a multiclip.
I can understand why you might want to keep audio from one camera only playing over the whole multiclip, or to switch between audio from each, but in my case I prefer all audio to play at the same time. The workaround is still do-able for me as I'm only talking about engine notes, which if they are a few frames out is not very noticeable at all, but I would like to know if I'm right in thinking I cannot do it the way I would like to?
Wish I'd used FCP from the start, but glad I've got it now.....especially with the 30 inch screen! It's 4.40am, been going over 19 hours straight and I'm still making comments like...."WOW, that's brilliant"...every half hour!

  • Multiclip questions in Final Cut Pro 6

OK, so far I have did multiclip with HD QT movies. When I do it, it does not show them playing together in the canvas when set the sync option to open. It only shows the active angle, when I press pause it shows both angles.
I have not experimented with regular SD yet. Is this a problem that can be resolved or is it a computer speed issue.
I have a 15 inch macbook pro, 2.2 ghz, 2 gigs of rams. It is one of the newer models.

I had a hard time with it the other day and I basically started over to fix it.
Mark the in point or out point on all the clips in the browser if not using the same timecodes.
Select all the clips in the browser, got to MODIFY>MAKE MULTICLIP.
Open the new created clip in the broswer. All videos should play in the same viewer without using the Synch to OPEN.
If it doesn't work, make sure your upgraded to 6.0.1 + OS 10.9.10.
    If it still don't work:
Try decreasing the frame rate and quality playback to see if that helps. If that works, then it could be the processing power. (Click the RT button in the timeline)
You can export the HD files as an SD file for a test.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using workarounds to use multiclip

I was given 5 dv tapes of a live event. Each camera recorded different parts of the same show at different intervals. I was able to import all the video and sync things up in the timeline. Audio was out of sync on the footage I captured form the camera that had line in and I corrected it in the timeline. Now I'm experimenting with exporting each video track so that all can be synced by their in points. It's working except when I create a multiclip it shows a split playhead in the viewer and when I drag it to the timeline audio is not linked with the video. I'm not sure how to fix this other than recapture the tape with 15min or less limit between files?

"It's working except when I create a multiclip it shows a split playhead in the viewer and when I drag it to the timeline audio is not linked with the video"
Is your audio selected on the correct camera angle in the viewer? (denoted by a blue rectangle around footage)
"Now I'm experimenting with exporting each video track so that all can be synced by their in points."
Do you have matching timecode on your source tapes? If so, how are you synching the video before making subclips?

  • Multiclip help

I've synched all my cams, everything looks great in the viewer window...I see all cameras. The problem is when I am using 'open' playhead sync.
When I click on different cams to edit, I am not getting the blue marks in the timeline that I should be getting. When I click on any given clip playback stops. If I look at the sequence I see that it shows me changing the clip name but it's not making the edit. What am I missing?

Nevermind....I figured it out...by the way multiclip is the best feature ever.....

  • Any suggestions for editing Music Videos with Multiclip?

Hi there. I have been reading about the new multiclip feature in FCPHD5. Sounds as if it would be perfect for editing a performance music video with multiple run throughs. In fact it almost seems too good to be true. I was writing to ask if anyone has tried this and what problems they encoutnrered or what workflow they could recommend. I haven't used multiclip before (or editied many music videos either) and would appreciate any suggestions.
This is my idea so far.
capture offlineRT the whole tape, make subclips with an angle setting of each take. Then edit the multiclip in a timeline which includes the song as an audio track. I thought I would synch with inpoints manually set to the beginning of the songs first riff in playback (as there was no clapper on set that day, curse them)
I have questions about onlining as well and how to make it a less tormenting nerve racking experience. Maybe its just me but the thought of trashing all the media, duplicating projects and recapturing makes me break out in a cold sweat. But I'll deal with that later.
Thanks for your thoughts, observations, suggestions.
    Have a merry Christmas
    Sincerely
    Peter Stenhouse

The plan was to sync up the mixed PT audio to the video track. However the club screwed up the recording and I was left with using the audio from one of the tripod mounted cameras that I placed a stereo mike on.< </div>
    General advice for live performances:
    1. Depending on a computer to make the only recording is a silly idea. Use tape or a minidisk. Take a line feed off the main board and record it on at least one of the cameras.
    2. There is nothing that will substitute for missing timecode better than a good countdown. Insist the band develop a creative visual and aural timing cue that all cameras and mics can see.
    3. The most important part of shooting a performance or a lipsync gig for mulitcamera assembly is preproduction. The bugs, glitches and gotchas are all well known and thoroughly documented on thousands of band blogs.
    4. There is no excuse to go into a location shoot unprepared and carrying a solid backup plan for all of the stuff that will go wrong.
    5. A full, all-camera, all-personnel rehearsal is a good idea.
    6. The band's lighting guy knows nothing about video. Give him some help or give him the day off.

  • Multicam clips de-synch - Ready to kill

Okay. I have done this work 3 times now. Synched 2 cameras in a multicam clip.
    However I have 2 problems.
1: When I select and move 2 angles the synch is not retained.
2: When I embed the multicam clip in a project or make a compound clip out of the mc clip, some sequences have no sound even though I have selected the proper audio track and ensured that that track is on inside the multicam clip.
Many thanks for help and hair transplants.

    Mark,
Then you could set MPEG Streamclip to take it to 1920 x 1080 Pro Res, and test with that in FCPX.  The 1440 x 1080 is a convenience for file size, and in realty is meant to provide 1920 x 1080.  See:
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1122392
I can only guess that the multiclip routines might not be liking the 1440 x 1080, even though FCPX will play it.  I believe that if you were capturing direct, FCPX would change to the full raster 1920 x 1080, but cannot do that with the file you have provided it.  Just a guess.
