Multiple language support using UFL (or not)

Dear forum members,
I saw in another thread that it's possible to get a multiple language support within CR.
I have to implement that functionality in my reports and I saw that it would be possible using a UFL but I dont really know how to do that.
The text to be traduced is in a database, I have many ideas to deal with it but they are heavy or not really right.
This issue must have been solved by someone before...
Any keys?

Not a trivial task. You will essentially have to create a UFL that converts wide char to MBCS and passes it back to report formulas. E.g. all of the fields that need to be translated will have to be in a formula - that is how UFLs work.

A few questions:
1) Does the report viewer control have multiple language support? I could not find a way to resource the status bar, toolbar tooltips, or subsequent dialogs.
2) Is there a way to support multiple languages in the reports? I'm thinking of inspecting all ReportObjects in the ReportDefinition, but I'm wondering if there's a less invasive way of handling this.
3) Is there a way to determine the last page number of a report? I understand that not all pages are loaded initially and I'm ok with that limitation, but I can find no way to determine if the user's reached the last page other than looking at the enabled state of the "Last Page" button in the toolbar.
Any assistance is appreciated.

2. This depends on what you mean by supporting multiple languages? Do you mean you want the entire report, including data to be in another language? If so then this is up to you. We don't translate the data. We only translate the tooltips, toolbar, and regionalize the data formats. You can either switch to a different data table for the correct language, create a formula to translate for you, or create a custom UFL and subscribe to a translation service to translate the data for you.

Multiple language support and cookie

We are developping an application with the help of Oracle Portal (9ias V2) new release.
We use this API "wwctx_app_language.set_language" to set the language chosen by the user during
connection to support multiple languages. When he navigates, we use this API
"wwctx_api.get_nls_language" to know which language has been set to display the
contect according to the language chosen during the connection. But we notice that
the API has not properly set the session. As everytime it displays in English however the
user has chosen some other language. Whether there is any other solution to bypass this problem (with
the help of cookies,...etc.)

Multiple language support help

I have a large application with more than several hundred sub VIs. Now, we want to modify it to provide multiple language support, for example, Chinese or French. I have searched the forum and have some clue, but still cannot fit our needs.
1. from NI site, one method is to export string and import string. But for several hundred sub VIs, do I need to to this several hundred times for each VI? since in our application, some strings are hardcoded.
2. using excel sheet, everytime read excel file and modify the contorl properities. I am not sure how this works in details.
Any advice or suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

"You do not need to have a specific language
version of LabVIEW, such as French, German, or Japanese, to be able to
enter display text in that language. LabVIEW supports single and double
byte characters, but it does not support bidirectional scripts (such as
Arabic or Hebrew).
If you want to display text in multi-byte
character sets (such as Japanese, Chinese, or Korean) in LabVIEW, you
only need an operating system of the appropriate language or an
MBCS-enabled operating system with an Input Method Editor (IME) for the
corresponding language. Also, there are several commercially available
language kits that you can add on to the operating system."

Create folders with multiple language support

How can folders be created supporting multiple languages?
I am using Mac OS X with English as my native language. As I would like to have several folders named in Japanese this causes some trouble: It is no problem to name them using Japanese characters, but if I navigate through these folders using the Terminal as I often do the names will only appear like "???????????????????" even if I use 'export LCALL="jaJP.UTF-8"' to get right character interpretation for the Terminal. There must be an alternative name support for folders as I tried to create folders while I switched to Japanese as my native language for Mac OS X and all standard user folders switched to Japanese language. In the Terminal these folders still appear in international English language. And also when I copy those folders to an external hard drive the multiple language support will stay alive. But I still didn't find out how new folders created by myself will get multiple language support. Any hints?

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean there. Where are you spelling the names? In Terminal?
Yes, I meant typing Japanese characters in the Terminal. It works but it's very uncomfortable as shortcuts to switch the input method don't work while writing commands in the Terminal. Standard folders like "Documents", "Pictures" etc. appear in English in the Terminal even if the localization has been switched to an other language. (So there is no need to switch the input method while working in the Terminal.)
In case the folders are stored on an external drive (even if it's fat) and it's plugged in on another computer they appear in English likewise.
Self created folders normally won't have this ability. But to customize this behaviour is exactly what I am looking for. I guess the information about the "international aliases" must be in a hidden file or something like that.
That must certainly be part of the localization system for the OS. Here is some info:

Does a multiple language supported Windows Phone 8 Application support Bengali Language (Bangladeshi language)?

Hello,
I am developing a Windows Phone 8 application (for Nokia/ Microsoft Lumia) where multiple languages will be supported. Now, it is needed to support Bengali (Bangladeshi language) in my Windows phone 8 application.
But, I didn't find Bengali language in the Setting -> Language -> phone Language. So could anyone tell me that a multiple language supported windows phone 8 application support Bengali language or not. If it is possible, then how user will change
the app language from phone setting?
FYI .. From Microsoft OEM documentation, I have known that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 includes support for Bangla (Bangladesh language).

As far as I known the Bangla language is supported as a on-screen keyboard language on the Windows Phone 8. But it is not supported as a display language in Windows Phone 8, so you can not choose this language from the phone setting. For more information,

UCCX CAD Multiple Language Support

When installing UCCX 8.5 I am prompted with the option to choose the CAD/CSD Language Configuration. This install is for a customer with offices in Quebec (French) and the rest of Canada (English). It would appear that I can choose only one language and not both even though I can install multiple languages for the IVR prompts.
Am I to understand that even with the latest version of UCCX there is still no way to have the French users use a French version of the CAD application and the English users use an English version of the CAD application?
Or am I missing something?

I did find a workaround that is working for my customer.
As you may know after the UCCX install you are directed to run the "CAD Client Configuration.msi" file which can be downloaded from the UCCX server. The program downloads the new installer files for CAD, CSD and Cisco Desktop Administrator and configures the IP address of the primary UCCX server based on your input. The program then appears to connect to the primary server to retrieve the backup server IP as well as the language of the server. The application then uploads the installer files preconfigured for the system with the IP’s and language. These installer files can be downloaded from the server via a URL for installation on client computers. These installer files are also pushed down to clients after an upgrade to the system if the version used by the client is an older version.
This is where the problem lies. However there is another way to generate the client install files.
There is also a program that comes with the UCCX installation media called “ConfigureMsi.exe” that allows a user to pre-configure the installer files. This application does not use the server to retrieve language or IP addresses. This information is manually configured by the user when running the application.
So what I did was (because my install base was primarily English) use the CAD Client Configuration tool to configure the clients as English. Then I ran the ConfigureMsi.exe that is on the UCCX media (DVD) and generated another set of French language install files.
When the client (CAD, CSD, DA) connect ot the server they compare their versions (but not their languages). So if you manually install the French computers with the French installation media you created they will connect to UCCX and work. If however a patch needs to be applied to the UCCX server then you need to ensure that you get the installation media and generate the updated French versions of the clients and manually push them out prior to the upgrade. The reason for this is that if you apply a patch on the UCCX server and the French client (older version) connects to UCCX the UCCX server will push down the English version of the client.
I documented a process for them to follow when applying patches so that they upgraded their French clients first and then applied the patch to UCCX. Of course the English clients detect they are on an older version and get pushed the new English client automatically as they would with an English only install.
The only caveat to all of this was that the historical reporting client is not included in the “ConfigureMsi.exe” tool on the UCCX media. It appears to be only available through the UCCX server and thus it was only available in English.
I'm sure you could probably install another copy of UCCX as French only and pull down the historical reporting application for the French users however this would be alot of work for just a single application and this process would have to be followed after every upgrade to the system. With virtualized deployments these days it might be a bit easier.
This workaround is only for the client applications (excluding historical reporting). I believe the CRAAdmin web site was still in english. I deployed this solution over a year ago and cannot recall if the language setting of the browser/computer determiined the language you received in CRAAdmin. It might but I unfortunately cannot confirm this.
In all the testing I performed it appeared as though the language for the client was all programmed into the client itself. It seems odd that Cisco cannot allow you specify multiple languages to upload to the UCCX server and then do a language check as well as a version check when the client connects and dish out the appropriate version.

Multiple Monitor support using RDP in Windows 10

Does anyone know if you can use multiple monitors when connecting through RDP in Windows 10? In Windows 7, you need to be using Windows 7 Ultimate in order for RDP to support more than one monitor.
For example, my home setup has (2) 22" monitors and I want to RDP to my work PC which also has (2) 22" monitors. We are running windows 7 Pro, so only one monitor would display on my home PC and I couldn't view my 2nd work monitor.

I can't test that due to the shortage of resources.
For the RDP multiple Monitor support, it should be supposed to work on Windows 10.

Multiple language support for E71

Is it possible to have English, Simplified Chinese and Hebrew on the same E71?

i downloaded the program but cannot install as it says certifcate error
i have installed simialr program for nokia 9300i which iw as using before
now with the world shrinking and memory capacities increasing all the time and people like me who travel so often nokia and ther manufatcurers should provide multi langauge support
please help us to install the support as it is really tough to travel if you cannnot read local language message showing address and other informaiton

Most versatile IDE with multiple language support IYO ?

Im trying to gauge which IDE would be best for coding a variety of languages (C/C++, Python, Java...). I'd ideally like something with plugin support, so that you can extend its functionality as desired, and write your own add-ons should the need arise. It'd be great if there was inbuilt support for less common languages such as OCAML, and for more recent languages like Ruby.
I've been using a solely CLI-based setup for 6 months now, with firefox being the only gui app I've used (coding: vim, IM: centericq, IRC: weechat, Music: mpd). I converted to that setup thinking that it would boost my efficiency, since Ratpoison with GNU Screen makes every mouse action replaceable with a keyboard combo. Recently though, I've been frustrated at certain limitations of Ratpoison, and while I have gained speed with some of its features, I've lost speed with others.
The gist of this is that I'm going to go back to Openbox with the expose-like Skippy, and the Mac OS Dock-like yab (via adesklets). I'll miss the versatility of using nought but the terminal, but it sure will be a breath of fresh air to seem some aesthetically pleasing interfaces, lol
Ive looked at what IDEs are on offer, and the most interesting ones are jEdit (perhaps you'd like to convince me Dusty? ), Eclipse (which I've used for Java and Python, and I like it, but it's so fat! lol) and PIDA (not used and can't find screenshots - the ones on the Berlios project page for it won't display: they say I'm unauthorized for access). I'd love to hear any feedback from people who've used any of these development environments and wish to sing their praises, or point out any flaws. Similarly, it'd be great to hear of any other software that Archers have used and found to be productive.
Any offers?

I don't hate Vim by any means; I think it's a very impressive piece of software, and very efficient in terms of speed. But I'm no longer of the school of thought who consider mouse-usage alone to be the most efficiest interface, or the opposing school of thought that consider just using keyboard combos is the way forward.
I used to think the latter, but after using ratpoison and CLI apps for so long, I've changed my mind. It is very fast to use the keyboard for coding - keyboard shortcuts for auto-completion, indentation etc, very handy. But what if you want to traverse a tree of modules you're working on, looking at separate, random pieces of code you've written in different files. It's a lot faster to just click on whatever module/interface/whatever you want to see the code of, rather than manually scrolling up or down said tree.
Also, for something as simple as scrolling page contents, I prefer to use a mouse. it feels more pleasant than using the keyboard, and it's faster when using the mousewheel. If there's a particular chunk of code on the page that you want to see in the centre of the window, with the keyboard you'd first use the page up/down shortcut to get near the desired area (which has a limited speed), and then you have to manually shift the page up or down by a few lines to get bang on whatever you wish to see. Using a mouse to do the same thing is much quicker. The same argument applies for copy-and-paste.
Some things in Ratpoison are very fast, like being able to launch applications via easily-customizable keyboard shortcuts. But other things, like window resizing (or rather, frame resizing in Ratpoison ) are very slow. True, you can set pre-defined frame layouts, and also resize frames with key combos... but I hate the inflexibility of this. Frame resizing via the keyboard is so slow; it's something you could do in a second or less using a mouse; the same with moving windows around - a simple action to perform via the mouse, yet in Ratpoison moving frames around is difficult, and moving windows around involves combinations of swapping frame contents, tabbing through available windows, or looking to see what number the window you want is, and THEN switching to it by number. This is slow IMO.
Don't get me wrong, I still think Ratpoison is really good, and completely achieves what it's going for - the easy-to-use Screen-esque WM - but as I say, I just feel that a keyboard-mouse combo is the way forward.
Some people may say that it's better to use CLI-only apps for SSHing, since if you've got a low speed connection, they're the best. But most businesses, colleges, schools and homes where you work/study and need to use SSH have broadband now, so as long as you set up X forwarding, which is a simple task, then you can use your gui apps anywhere you want.
I will never dislike Vim (or Emacs for that matter; both have pros and cons), I do not consider them to be archaic or unwieldy because they're CLI apps (ignoring their X counterparts); I simply feel that a combination of their do-it-by-the-numbers keyboard combos with the flexible-as-a-yoga-teacher mouse is an all-round safer (and faster) bet.
Anyway, I don't want to go too far off topic - I'm just trying to explain why I wish to return to gui-land after being in cli-territory for so long. I'd be grateful if people would mostly ignore this post, and respond to my first post by sharing information and opinions on other IDEs (although I welcome your opinions on what I've just said, Phrakture, since you're the longest Ratpoison/Screen user I know of, and it's clearly worked for you ).
I'd really like to hear from Dusty, if he reads this... I know he's working on Magnum (I *think*, anyway) and uses or did use JEdit, so I'd like to hear what he likes about them compared to vim etc.

Configuring oracle 8i for multiple language support?

We are in discovery for a new web site that will need to support many languages. The initial phase is for English and some European languages like swedish and french but plans are to include multi-byte languages like japanease in the future.
What are the possible configuration options for oracle to help provide support of this. Can 1 database installation support many languages? What are your reccomendations?

Also what is the level of UNICODE support provided by oracle? If we are devolping in java is it possible to store unicode in the database? We could then store a table to indicate what the language is for all the data ourselves?

English List of languages supported in OSX (not programation languages)

Hello from France. Excuse my bad english.
Does anyone has a simple list (in english) of all the languages supported by Mavericks ? (not the programation languages, the real spoken and written languages all over the world )
i found some of them in the fonts information, and others in the system préférences "Langues et texte", but i'm probably missing them, and i can't type some asiatic names because i don't know what font to use and i can't use copy/paste inside system preferences)

Multi-Language support in Discoverer? Best-Practice?

Dear experts,
wondering if there is a best practice to provide workbooks/EULs in different languages? Actually we use Business Objects (BO 5.xx) but want to switch to Discoverer. As BO also does not support multiple languages we use as a workaround the VB-interface to translate the text and labels in our reports and universes (EUL) regarding to particular label numbers. Is there some kind of similar interface for browsing/changing Discoverer EULs?
Do you think the following could work:
In the "genuine" EUL you specify a unique number to any attibute of an element and after each you start a kind of translation procedure generating two new EULs (e.g. EUL_EN (english) and EUL_DE (german)) with translated labels (Name and Headline attibute of an element).
As far as I understood the structure of Discoverer's EULs, all attibutes are stored in the database, so it should be possible to find out, which holds the "Name" and which the "Headline" attribute...
Got what I want?
At least I need to understand the data model of the EULs...

Hi Ralf,
There are 2 types of translations you might want to do: the names and descriptions of your Business Areas,Folders and Items etc in the EUL and the labels and titles in the workbooks.
To translate the Descriptions in the EUL the easiest approach will be to export the EUL into an .eex file or each component into a .eex file using a script. These .eex files are in fact XML files and the names and descriptions are attributes of the XML BA, folder and item elements. You can then translate these and then import the eex file(s) into a new EUL for the new language.
Another approach to consider (especially if you are using Discoverer with Oracle Applications and your translations are already held in the database) is to create a language specific EUL. You will need to use the command line to do this and specify the EUL language when you create the EUL. Then import your EUL into the new language specific EUL and use the folder refresh to pick up the translated text from the database. You will probably need to write a EUL_TRIGGER$REFRESH_NEW_COLUMN to do this. If you are using the Business Intelligence views some translations may be done for you when you refresh. I think taking this approach will be a challenge.
I am afraid there is no easy way to translate the labels and titles in the workbooks. You will have to manually open each workbook in the new EUL, translate the text and save it.

Fails trying to update Reader 9.1.3 with 9.0 language support.

I have upgraded my reader to 9.1.3, selected my language "english", and ran the upgrade program. The update program says I need to install Adobe Reader 9.0 Language Support. When I try to do this, the error message is "Adobe Reader 9.0 Language Support failed to install". I have tried this with a very limited protection (ie virus detection) and with no protection. Same result. When I search the updates URL, there is no Adobe Reader 9.0 Language Support. I did install the Adobe Reader 9.1.3 Multiple Language Support (at least I downloaded and ran the program). Is this enough?

I tried using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but it still doesn't work. I opened up Registry Editor, and browsed to the key it said was missing. It doesn't look like I have that key - the only thing in there is something that says (default) in the name column, type is REG_SZ, and under data it says (value not set). I have no idea what any of this means, and I'm also not sure how to see what permissions I have. Can you make any sense of this?
