New GNB MAX-SR MS-6565

Hello everybody
I have just finished mi new Machine an have two questions about some BIOS Settings or little Problems.
How can i chack wether AGP 8x is enabled or not ?
What means the BIOS Setting 4XOverride, where i can use 2XMode or No Override. ?
I have installed 4 Kingston KVR266X72C25/512 wich have ECC supportet.
In the Bios settings the DRAM; Data integrity MODE ECC od not ECC is not highlightet, so i can't set ECC enabled.
Mi Board has already the newest Flash Bios. v.2.30 installed.
Anyway i am very happy with this board, because befor i ised ASUSP4G8X but had only problemes with it.

Well...Its morning to me...work 3rd shift.
Anyway. I put the Antec550 in because I thought maybe the BFG FX5600
wasn't getting enough juice. My old power supply only had two molex
line and the antec has 3. So I could use one molex line just for the video card.
Well that was a no go.
Now I 'm just leaving my puter on all the time.
I'm thinking either I have a bad install of the video drivers, or
the video card has bad memory.
No problems before installing the BFG5600.
Was just hoping someone could give me a clue on the "agp440.sys" Error.
Called BFG and they told me that the GranetBay (GNB Max) boards
have issues with the new "FX" video cards.

My AGP card is on IRQ 16 sharing
with USB Host controller-24C2.
Its causing a problem once in a while...

MSI GNB Max (MS-6565): insufficient voltage

I have just installed my new GNB Max, and got XP Pro up and running. Upon installing PC Alert 4, I recieved a warning that the +3.3V was actually sub 3V(2.9+V). What effect will this have? And what kind of Variance should I tolerate?

My GNB Max + Antec true power 430 read 3.33.
Sounds like a power supply not handling the load.
Acceptable tolerance in the PC industry is +-5% (3.135 is therfor the lower limit)

GNB Max-L do not power USB

Hi folk!
Recently I has problem. My motherboard GNB2 Max-l (BIOS updated to v2.3) do not give power (5V) to modem connected to USB port (modem not have external power supply and power get from USB). After I power on PC USB LED on modem lighting, but operating system (Windows XP Pro) do not see modem. Support modem manufacturer speak that modem could get power before PC power on. I try some set in BIOS but result was without change. And for modem work properly I need disconnect USB cable from modem and after connect one more. I try on other 2 PC and after some set in BIOS all work properly.
Please advise me way for solving problem.

Anyone got "GOOD" sound out of GNB-Max 6565?

Hello,
I'm getting a very lousy sound out of my 6565. I tried all options such as with or without the S connector, 2, 4, and 6 channels, all possible inputs, different hardaware acceleration levels, etc.
The sound output is bad, and the microphone doesn't detect anything. I've noticed that many people were having the same problem. Does this mean that this MB requires a special speaker system? Can't I use two speakers like old times and get stereo sound out of them without any software/hardware tweaks?

I have the same board but I didn't even try onboard sound. My experience with onboard sound on other boards has made me just start with a good pci sound card (sound blaster audigy). Every onboard sound I have tried either sounded bad or worse. If the board had a creative chip on it you may get medium quality. Don't waste money on new speakers to use with the onboard sound, spend the money on a soundcard. Of coarse if money is not an issue you could buy both.

MSI 6565 GNB Max SATA problem

Hi I have just picked up a 6565 Gnb Max board, P4 2.4 ,533FSB MAxtor 120 Gb SATA HDD, Asus FX5200 Card, 1 gig Twinmos 266 DDR,
I cannot get the mobo to recognise the SATA HDD, there is nothing in the bios where I can turn on the SATA controller
(Integrated Peripherals) can anybody help?

I'm having the same problems.
GNB-Max board, Seagate 120GB SATA and Seagate 60GB PATA w/ SATA adaptor.
Regardless of how I connect the drive(s) to the Promise controller, they are not recognised. I've tried the 120GB on it's own on both SATA connectors, the 60GB on it's own and paired on the SATA connectors, and the 60GB on it's own on the PATA (IDE3) connector. At no point in time does the Promise controller dialogue even display during boot, so I can not configure the drive(s). I've tried the 60GB as master, slave and cable select in all scenarios.
The BIOS shows SATA enabled, and I've upgraded to the latest (2.30) BIOS, as well as trying older (2.0 & 2.1) BIOS revisions. All show the same symptoms.
Can anyone shed any light on how you get the Promise controller dialogue to show, or how to overcome the problem? I'd really like to get the 120GB drive working as my boot drive so I can reuse the current PATA drives elsewhere.

Memory on GNB MAX

Hi there, i have a queestion about memory type for the GNB MAX, in the specifications it says that the type of memory should be 2100 (266), but can i use another newer? for example one memory at 2700? i know that maybe the performance is not the same.. but it is possible to use it?

I belive it would work, but the speed would be set lower asuming you havent touched somthing in BIOS. If its on 'by SPD' in BIOS that is.

Yes, sure. I'm trying to use all of five PCI slots, and after slot chnge I,m setting Reset Configuration data in BIOS.
result is the same in all Card positions. Card is detected, but not working corectly.
I'm trying to resolve any hardware conflicts by disabling all od internal mothebrord components like IEE1394 Audio, Serial Ata and others - no cahnges, no solutions ....

GNB-MAX-FISR Heat Solution

Thanks to a previous post and some other help, I think I've finally fixed my overheating problem (although MSI has yet to return my call.)
The GNB Max-FISR board defaults the Voltage under the "Frequency/Voltage Control" to 1.75. Apparently the max for the 3.06 Intel chip is 1.5.
Also, I had not applied thermal compound to the chip when attaching the heat sink.
After performing both functions the chip running full out hangs out around 60 degrees C. This information REALLY should be in FAQ!!!

it is a 350W power supply..
The DBraket reports all red in 1,3,4 and a green in 2.. the manual claims that the system will hang there if the memory module is bad or installed improperly..
i can't imagine that the memory is bad, since it's brand spanking new.. and i've seated and reseated them a thousand times..
do I have the wrong memory?
I have DDR266 PC2100.. the manual seems to suggest that it might only support DDR533 or DDR400..

The Ti4600 will trash the FX5600 in any situation and the Radeon9600 in most situations.
If you want to upgrade the minimum that would be considered an upgrade is a Radeon9700, but a 9800/ 9800 pro/ FX5900F/ FX5900U are better choices.
You can also wait since the Ti4600 can run pretty much anything on the market right now with AA at a reasonable frame rate, and upgrade towards the begining of 2004 when the 2'nd generation of DX9 cards starts shipping (these are the estimates right now).

Gnb max make me crazy !! bug report

And audigy2 platinum soundcard and bluetooth dongle. 2*256mb ddr400 ram.
My p4 1.8 ghz worked fine with 1.5v 133mhz@2400mhz in my abit mobo.I work with this computer half year without any problem.
I bought the "new, fast..." msi gnb max with bluetooth,thinking how fast the double ram control,and the onboard bluetooth better than my usb dongle.
My problems:
1.:
when i in bios set up fsb 133mhz then work all,but just 100 mhz : my p4 go 1.8ghz
when i in bios set 160 mhz then ~120 mhz
And once more can i set 178 mhz once not,than go the fsb 133 mhz and my p4 2.4 ghz, but when i restart my system than again work with 100 mhz. This game make me CRAZY!!!!
When i set up in bios the fsb to 133mhz then why not work correctly 133mhz, why 100 mhz?????????????
Thats the stupiest think what i saw in my life!!!

My audigy2 card what before in my abit mobo work perfect,this mobo once go infrared remote control, once not, i don´t know why!!!!!!!!
3.:Bluetooth once work perfect,once not and i don´t know why !!!!!!!!! (It seems all right but just when i would like send program to my nokia,or activesync with my ipaq the say error with services)
4.: I make test with msi fuzzylogic 4 to overclock my mobo. work great but this program is buggy. When i close than mak acces violation error.
I tried with higher voltage too,but in bios and via fuzzylogic not worked perfect too.
My mobo came from factory with bios 2.2, what i heard little bit buggy,later i flash bios 2.1 and try too.... wothout result.
I need help,i need support!!!!!
I SPEND 240€~240$ for this mobo,
I´M NOT BETA TESTER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When msi not solve these problems next week then i give back this mobo to shop,and nomore buy another msi board.
From januar 10 (bios 2.2) msi know this bios buggy and 2 month later no update!!!!!!!

GNB Max temps and worries

Okies, I have a question / problem... maybe?
My MB, after being turned off for 30 minutes, on bootup, going DIRECTLY into the Bios, shows, under PC Health, a temp of 51C and climbs to 57..varying to..58.
Now I have the 3.06 GHZ Intel chip.
(No, I really don't care about anyone else's temp if they are overclocking or using something like a 2.4)
No overclocking anything.
Bios 2.2 and I did as Asaaf suggested and changed the thingys to 134 and 1.525.
I have an Alpha PAL8942 - which is supposed to be a decent heatsink on the P4.
IS THIS NORMAL / USUAL or not? If not, then should I take the sink off and re-apply the Artic Silver and try for "better"?
Oh, and MB temp is at 41C. - But I didn't mess with tha because the fan came on the MB attached.

I have had the same problems. The cpu temperature was about 52c when the using was idle.
When the using was more then 80% the temperature was rising in some secons over the 75c.,after replace the cooler there where no more problems. He was not realy good placed on the cpu
Now the temperature is between 46c and 52c.

Very high temp. with GNB MAX

Hello, i have a problem with my MSI GNB MAX motherboard and my p4 3,06 ghz
My cpu temperatures are very high, with a maximum of 85/86c,,, is this normal??
Anyone else having a similar problem like this?

If Vcor is 1.4 (I'm running 1.525 but reads 1.47 in PCAlert), AND fsb is set for 134, AND your HSF is running AND has good contact, there is no way for it to be that hot. The stock HSF is a pretty good part. I would suggest getting a temperature probe and touching it to the base edge of the HSF to see if you are really that hot. In Bios, I have the cut off threshold at 65C and alarm at 63C. I dont know the exact conversion but 86C is near hot enough to boil water. The laquer from the chip would probably begin to melt and create an odor.

RESOLUTION: GNB MAX and Radeon 9700 Crashes

I had various lock-ups, crashes and "Windows detected and recovered from a device failure" error messages with my GNB MAX motherboard and Radeon 9700 and they are now fixed.
I was able to receive a beta version of an upcoming set of drivers from ATI and they did the trick!!
Just wanted to give you all some hope.

Oops, I spoke too soon. I think FastWrites is on (I remember turning it off before on previous drivers and noticing a big slow down that is not present now) but there isn't a SmartGart tab appearing in my ATI control panel any more. I checked Advanced - Options - Details and yes, 8X is on.
How can I verify that FastWrites is on without the SmartGart tab?
