NI Digital Electronics FPGA Breadboard's UCF

Good day..i've been using Xilinx ISE 14.3 to program my NI Digital Electronics FPGA board and i want to use some FPGA GPIO lines placed on the Breadboard1(BB1) area...how can i create my UCF file to use this GPIO.??
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hey Dominic,
I just want to be clear... if you're trying to use LabVIEW to target the board, you will need the LabVIEW FPGA Module. If you're just using ISE, you can use the UCF attached below to enumerate all of the pins on the device. Since our forum system won't let me upload a .ucf, I posted it as a .txt... just change the extension or copy/paste the pins you need into your project's .ucf.
Cheers!

  • NI LabVIEW 2014 Digital Electronics FPGA Board Driver

    Hello all,
When NI LabVIEW 2014 Digital Electronics FPGA Board Driver Release date?
    Thanks.

    Hi mlewis1973
We have no information regarding the next release of this driver yet. As you mention, the 2013 version is available, so, for now, the solution would be to use LabVIEW 2013 until R&D gives us an update regarding this topic.
    Thanks!

  • Digital Electronics FPGA Board with Xilinx ISE

    Hi,
I've a design in Xilinx ISE. I Synthesized and created the Bit map file.
How can I export this bitmap file to the NI Digital Electronics FPGA is board? I tried using Adept to program, but the tool didn't detect FPGA board.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
The Adept Program is something that is made by Digilent. This application isn't meant for being used with non-digilent FPGAs such as the one on the NI Digital Electronics FPGA Board. The FPGA on this board is made by Xilinx so you have to use Xilinx tools in order to deply files to the FPGA (assuming you're not using LabVIEW FPGA). Specifically, you should use the Xilinx iMPACT Software, version 10.x or later, which is part of the ISE WebPACK kit. You can get this software from www.xilinx.com/ise.
If you still have questions about deploying your files to the FPGA, you can refer to the following resource.
    Xilinx iMPACT Examples:

    I hope this helps!

  • Site / Pin addresses for DAC on NI Digital Electronics Board

My advanced DE students are trying to build a circuit capable of communicating with the DAC on the NI Digital Electronics Board.
We have things to the point where we have a solid data stream, synchronized with our serial clock, and timed correctly relative to the DAC_CS pulse.  It all looks great on our oscilloscope. The one thing we are missing is the sites the signals are supposed to be mapped to in the Xilinx PlanAhead software.
    For example, LED0 is C11, LED1 is D11, SW0 is J11, SW1 is J12, etc...
The signals we need to be able to control on the DAC are:
    DAC_CLR, DAC_CS, SCK, and SDI.
    Thanks,
    -Bret Wood

  • DC to DC converter basics using Labview on FPGA Control with VHDL

DC to DC converter basics using Labview
I am fairly a novice, that is why simplifications required, before I begin thanks in advancefor them who will response
I am designing a DC to DC (Intermediate Bus Converter, a step down BUCK converter, of 24 v input and output 9 v and 5 amp current output), using FPGA controller, I need to program this using VHDL, for which I take LabVIEW, but as I am new so do not have any idea as what are the steps that I need to take for implementation, what types of function that FPGA does in this so that it can generate 24 v and what other mechanisms that have to control inside or outside of FPGA programming and designing that it can give the desired output voltage, if you have any idea about this then I would be glad to receive the steps that are necessary to complete this

NI supports two Spartan 3E products through either LabVIEW FPGA or MultiSIM, the Digital Electronics FPGA Board (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/207010) and, if you are in academia, the Xilinx Spartan 3E XUP starter board (as linked by Dennis_Knutson).
Also note that if you wanted to implement some logic in VHDL and have access to that logic in a LVFPGA diagram, you could utilize the Component-level IP (CLIP) fuctionality (http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371599G-01/lvfpgaconcepts/using_component_ip/)

  • ROT button DE FPGA

    Hi everyone,
I am using LabVIEW FPGA board. I tried to use rotary button on the board but I can't find the ROT CENTER (or ROT A, ROT B) in the New FPGA I/O. Please help me indicate the problem.
    Thank you so much
    Mina
    ---Let it works---

First, make sure you've got the specific driver for that board. If you're trying to get  this example up and running (since it refers to ROT A, B and Center) I can see that it was written for a slightly different board (the Digilent S3E Board) that has direct I/O for channels named ROT_A, B, and Center for a built-in encoder knob. For the NI Digital Electronics FPGA Board there are a couple things to know. First, the rotary knob on the board itself is not an encoder as described on page 2-11 of the user's manual. Rather, it is a control for a clock output and is not connected to the FPGA at all. There is a hardware add-on module from Digilent called the PmodENC Rotary Encoder Module that can plug in to the PMOD port on the NI board. If this device is plugged in to PMOD1 (aka J1 in the project) you can access its I/O lines in your project by going to New>>FPGA I/O>>Pmod Connectors>>J1:1-4 or J1:7-10. Once you've added these to the project you can rename them to anything you like, such as ROT_A or ROT_B.

  • FPGA Board CCA 193426B-01L

Trying to find a complete User Confirguration File (UCF) or a schematic showing the mapping of the Spartan chip pin outs for the FPGA board devices and I/O.
Several years ago, at least 5, the Philadelphia School District purchased the NI FPGA Boards that actually went unused until recently and are now being integrated into a Digital Electronics (DE) Course that will include the FPGA Board in various DE projects.  To fully utilize the I/O and devices on the board itself we require User Configuration File data and/or a circuit schematic that will identify pin out connectivity from the embedded Xilinx FPGA to the various devices on the board (example Rotary Switch).  Some of the data is included in information we were able to find or already had (e.g. http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/cat_defpga.pdf,http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372809b.pdf, http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/user_guides/ug385.pdf), but our information is incomplete.  A complete UCF or a schematic showing the mapping of the Spartan chip pin outs to usable devices on the board and its I/O pins/ports would greatly facilitate use of the board in our classroom projects.
I may be contacted directly via the email above or, you may reach the school and ask for me or Mr. Scott Koehler, Engineering Technology teacher, please see the attached link for the school: http://carver.phila.k12.pa.us/
We currently have ten (10) of the NI FPGA boards, which may at this point be dated, but still quite usable for school purposes.  We would like to integrate these boards to introduce students to FPGA technology, and will expand the equipment base and course breadth as we get the course content established.

    Fernando,
    Greatly appreciate your responsiveness.
We will be using Multisim, and have it installed, as part of the DE Course, but we also want to teach students using C-Language/Verilog/VHDL a variety of tools, and the JTAG programming port directly, and want to be able to direct I/O from the Spartan FPGA to a variety of devices on the CCA or connected externally.  So, I guess we want to get under the hood a bit, teach the tools comparatively, and complement Multisim usage, which is a great tool.
This board is a few years old, I am not sure if it is the current version or still in production.  Is there a complete UCF or a schematic that will identify Spartan pinouts to CCA devices and I/O?  What we are doing is updating, expanding the course and integrating the FPGA (that has gone unused until now) and other devices.
We have ten of the FPGA boards now.

  • My iMac no longer recognizes my Western Digital external HD

My external Western Digital MyBook hard drive can no longer be mounted.  This problem seems to have started occurring after I upgraded my OS to 10.5.8 (my best guess).  Have had the drive for 2 years and no problems up until now.  I connect the drive via Firewire.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance...

Western Digital electronics aren't known for their longevity (hard drives themselves are fine). Can you attach the drive to another computer? You've tried all ports on your iMac?

  • Cannot read data in FPGA

Hi guys, I have a code that I developed for reading in digital data through digital lines in a PXI-7813R. But unfortnately, in the Host vi, I cannot acquire any data, even though I have fed in an external signal to the digital line in the PXI through a connector.
I have a data graph to display this signal, but nothing can be seen when I run the problem! Anyone know what the problem is?
    I have attached the project.
    ANy help would be great.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have a couple of questions though. I dont understand what you mean in the first line. I have set the READ in the FPGA VI to be true so that when it is pressed, data can be read from the HOST VI.
Now, getting on to the issues you highlighted.
    1. I have included a polling delay and the error issue is now sloved. But, when you mean "Also make sure you wire your error in to the while loop stop condition....", I have did this using the polling. Is this OK?
    2. You mention "In your vi, you are writing...." do you mean in the FPGA? If so, I have set the "read?" flag on the case structure, to use it as a switch for teh true conditon. is this not correct?
I have attached the modified Project along with this. Feel free to edit it if you feel the urge too

  • NI Digital Electronics Board DAC and ADC access from Multisim

Is it possible to use the ADC and DAC functionality of the NI Digital Electronics Board from a circuit designed in Multisim?
I would like to have my students be able to digitally sample an audio input, perform transformations on the data stream, and listen to the effect.  Nothing particularly fancy.
    Thanks,
    -Bret Wood

    Hello,
In order to use the ADC/DAC you need to define a protocol and this goes beyond the scope of the PLD schematic in Multisim.
LabVIEW can be used to accomplish this, there are some examples that you can use as reference, they can be found in the NI Example Finder.

  • Multisim and Digital Electronics by Tokheim

Just a warning to any one creating courses.  Digital Electronics by Roger Tokheim does not have a student version of multisim.
I just spent a year working with NI and publishers to find a text for a digital electronics course.  Choose Tokheim because they were said to have a multisim student version with problems for students to do.  First day of class and I just heard from a student the assignments I have can not be done because the book did not have the student version of multisim.  It just had the labs that can not be ran.
No I'm left to scramble to find a solution.  A little steamed at the book rep and NI rep for the complete mislead.

    Hi Prof Dude,
I am posting to close the loop on our conversation on the issue for future customers to reference.
As we discussed in our conversation, there are two ISBNs for this text book.  One contains the Multisim Software, and one does not contain the Multisim software.  The book company sent you the ISBN for the book without themultimedia included.  I would hope that hte textbook company woudl accept a return on these and resend the books with the software, but that is out of out control.
If time is critical, a download for Multisim is available on our website: https://lumen.ni.com/nicif/us/academicevalmultisim/content.xhtml
Students in the USA and Canada can purchase a license for Multisim hre: http://e5.onthehub.com/WebStore/OfferingDetails.aspx?ws=49c547ba-f56d-dd11-bb6c-0030485a6b08&vsro=8&...

  • Windows 8 compatibility list

I am involved in a modernisation project at an academic intitute, we are on the verge of getting site licenses for  Multisim, Labview and also Elvis II hardware complete with the FPGA boards for our digital electronics courses.
However we have hit a road block, our IT people are very uncomfortable with the labview aspect as it is their intention to roll out Windows 8.1 across the campus at the end of this year.
This is clearly an issue as the Labview FPGA module is not windows 8.1 compatible.
Is there a list of what is and is not windows 8.1 compatible for the Labview Suite?
There is a good chance that this may sink our chances to secure Labview, so I am desperately looking for a way forward.
What is the likelyhood that this compatability issue will be resolved?
    Thanks in advance

    I'm surprised that LabVIEW 2013 SP1 is Windows 8.1 compatible, but FPGA 2013 SP1 isn't even Windows 8.0 compatible.
That being said there are many versions of LabVIEW that will install, and run fine on unsupported operating systems.  People have been running LabVIEW 7.0 on Windows 8.  LabVIEW 7 was released in 2003.  You will likely not want to just take the advice of a stranger on the internet and contact NI to get a definitive answer, but I am sure it will install and run just fine.
